The Gymnaga of MacNorra House – at the beginning of the adventure there were 27 gymnaga total, one boy was killed in the Tafganor raid, an old man (and two infants, from Rosilindeae’s house) were rescued. Bertrius, Jellika, and Mardalius escaped – leaving a total of 19 still in captivity)
There were 5 families living at MacNorra House
1) Rosilindeae Family (6 members). They are Vesuna Rosilindeae and her new husband (Rothalus). Rothalus has an older sister, Dolinerea who has a young husband (Palanthus) and she has two small children. Rosilindeae is the oldest female and head of this family.
2) Winosomea Family (5 members). They are Amathuna Winosomea , and her husband Sulinarus Colinaria. Sulinarus has a daughter with Rosilindeae, her name is Alinda Colinaria – But Alinda thinks of Winosomea as her mother now. Bertrius is Sulanarus’ older brother. Winosomea and Sulinarus are the parents of Mardalius. Winosomeae is the oldest female and head of this family
3) Murandea family (5 members) – Poseus, Jellika, and Revano, their mother and father. Poseus Mother is head of this small family. She has not taken a second husband yet
4) Amodrea family (4 members). They are Farina Amodrea, and her husband Lanturius, they have a daughter, she is nine, her name is Casmada, and they care for Amodrea's old father, Finnos.
5) Lomaniseae family (7 members). They are Haluna Lomaniseae and her Husband Piliteus, and their two children, and Pliteus’s young sister Tanisinda, and his brother Janeus (deceased), and Lomaniseaes’s sister Natharinsa (Lomaniseae’s first husband did not come with these families to MacNorra House)
Gymnaga Naming convention – A family is lead by a female of child bearing years. Her name given at birth will be the family name, and is often spelled differently than her childhood name, adding an –ae to the end of the first part of her childhood name. When she marries she takes a spousal name given to her by her husband and only he uses that name and only when addressing her (Thus Vesuna Rosilindeae). When a Gymnaga woman has had two, or sometimes three children, she will often release her husband, so that he may take a new wife (female births greatly outnumber male births in gymnaga communities), she will often raise the children while they are young, but when they are older they are as likely as not to live with either their mother or their father (Thus even though Alinda is Rosilindeae’s daughter by birth, she has been living in her father’s house, and treats his new wife like her mother most of the time). Sometimes a Gymnaga woman will take a second husband, and when she does, she will add an –e to the end of her name. Often this is a companion like relationship, but it is not uncommon for an older Gymnaga woman to have children with her second husband.
All young gymnaga are given a childhood name, and until they are married are often addressed by this name and the name of their father (thus Alinda Colinara). Males keep this name into their adulthood (usually, but it is not uncommon for men who do not marry to change their names so as to not be bound to any family). A Young Gymnaga woman will drop her father’s name when she is married, and take on a special spousal name, given to her by her husband, and these names do not transfer from one generation to another.
It is becoming more common for young Gymnaga (males and Females) to adopt more common Urandoman style names (thus Alinda refers to herself as Alinda Carpenter, her father is a carpenter and she is trying to fit in more closely with her Woodbridge neighbors).
Think I posted this too soon, finding many mistakes in it, need to be a better proof reader, sheesh

Is everyone ready to proceed? I've completely failed at making an adequate map. I struggled to learn how to make the overland maps, and have spent the last two weeks trying to learn the city mapping tool, but I can't figure out the scale and symbol sizing. It just keeps coming out all wrong. So I'll try to build a map tools map to show the encounter area.
Just let me know when you are ready and if you all need time to come up with a plan.

I am formulating a plan, will make a post when I get it all figured out. I know that a few days won't be enough in game to accomplish "everything" I would do, but I can do the basics.
Redoing equipment into weapons will take too long, I would know that as a smithy. I am gonna reinforce the bridge as best as I can.

How to lose an orc camp in 10 seconds: Sickening Entangle. Glitterdust. Pretty much done.
:P

We’ve hit a bump in the road, and it is my frustration with myself that is causing us to falter.
I don’t want to start the battle until I have a map that meets my goals, and I keep doing terrible maps, ugh! I want a map that shows the whole of the camp, a short clearing to a wooded area, where the party is preparing, each of the entrances to the camp, and all the enemies that can be seen, but I can’t seem to get it in the right size and scale, it is either too small and you can’t see details, or it is too big, and I can’t show everything I want to show. I have the next three days off and I am putting all my effort into getting a map made that will work for this encounter
Sorry for the delay.
Calex |
No problem, Terquem. I've been dealing with some family issues so have been a little lax with my online presence lately. So take your time- its not all your fault.
As for the maps- maybe instead of one large one, break it down into a series of maps? Just a suggestion. It might go easier with a bunch of smaller bites rather than choke on one large one.
Mina Gemblossom |
I am always bad at maps. I can't ever get the stuff that I want. And worse, I go 'man, if you hadn't given up on art, you could totally do this.' :P

Using the City Designer expansion for Campaign Cartographer I built this map today
There is a path leading to the camp on the other side of the river
I placed the word "Party" where you are camped now
The stream or river on the map is only about 10 to 15 feet wide, it is shallow but it flows swiftly out of the lake
The wide dirt area around the Tafganor camp represents a small ditch and the short wooden fence, note the opening in the east side and in the south side
The slightly lighter colored grass on the northeast of the map is a steep hill side
What I want to know is what approach will you take to begin you attack on the camp? Will you wait till sunset, try to sneak across the river and attack from the north
Now that there is a map, maybe a new plan can be established. When you have an actual plan, where you will attack from, I’ll create an encounter map with grid showing the enemy positions
I'm sorry this took so long
Dieredon D'atarisian |
Np...looks great!
I suggest Poseus and I cross from our curent position, sneak all the way around and approach from the East opening. Of course, Poseus may want to swim there and meet me at the East entrance.
The rest of you should cross at the closest safe point to the South entrance and start the illusions and fireworks from there, or this side of the river, to stay safe. Poseus and I can grab the prisoners and escape to the East. We can circle around and meet you agaain here.
Terquem |
Just to point out, the distance from the edge of the stream to the south entrance is about 100 feet, while from the closest edge of the lake it is only about 50 feet - keep this in mind when it comes to the range of your intended attacks
Alright I'll build two close up encounter maps, one of the east gate and one of the south gate
Neither of these "gates" are actually gates of any kind, I'm just using it to denote an opening in the fence around the camp

To help out in the 'planning' I'll go ahead and say that Mina will very likely turn the southern exit into a wall of sickness and pain behind the fleeing gymnaga... should the attempt be successful.
Mina Gemblossom |
Basic Plan:
Wait for nightfall. Caorann and Calex move to the north. Mina stays south. Riku goes east. Dieredon and Poseus choose south or east.
When everyone is in position, Caorann and Calex use ghost sound and silent image to distract the orcs. With them distracted, Dieredon and Poseus move to free the captives. As they flee, Riku covers their retreat with fog, and Mina places a sickening entangle in the way of the orcs.
It's more a shock-and-awe tactic than a true battle plan... but one can hope it buys us a significant advantage. Thoughts? :)
Mina Gemblossom |
Nope. No misinformation. Just that having limited sight ranges (maximum based on their darkvision) is better than being slightly worse at seeing things with unlimited ranges. At least in Mina's eyes.
She is specifically referring to how the Tafganor was turned terribly nearsighted in the forest at night.
If folks think hitting at noon or dusk or whatever is better, then that's fine, too. :) She's not a tactical genius, she's just suggesting how to utilize things people told her they had.
Terquem |
I think that as the description for Silent Image says you can create a "Force" (what's a force, can we get a ruling on that judges...)then creating something that resembles a swarm (of insects) should be allowed,
The image of the swarm would resembled an indistinguishable mass of colors and shapes in motion, and to anyone not intimately familiar with the behaviors of swarms, it would probably be taken for one.
Now, an image of rats, in my opinion would be harder to pull off, as the image would stay in one semi-consistent place, and the individual aspects of a single rat would get lost in the complexities of the image (and thus be less believable)
But this is all just nonsense talk
Yes, you can use the spell Minor Image to duplicate what you think a swarm would look like (and as you have witnessed a spider swarm, it should be a convincing image).

Tis the season to be busy.
My job picks up when school is out. I'm going to be a bit more busy for a while. This won't really affect whether or not I -do- post in threads, just the speed at which I do. Some days, I won't be able to really get posts in at work, other days it won't be very bad. Today is likely to be one of those days where I'll either post around noon, or not at all until I'm home.
I should still be highly responsive, just not nearly as responsive as you may be used to. :)
Terquem |
I've just linked an expanded map of the known world. The rest of the night I am building encounter maps for the battle.
Poseus and Deiredon will need to make one Stealth Skill Check
Poseus and Deiredon will attack the east gate while the rest of you come out of the forest to attack the south gate from the safety of the south side of the river.
I hope to post the first round tomorrow night
Poseus and Deiredon may or may not have a surprise round depending on their stealth rolls
Is everyone ready (boy I've asked that too many times)
Mina Gemblossom |
My actions come much later in all of this. So don't worry about waiting on me.
Mina Gemblossom |
That's why I tried to set up a basic plan for us to follow :p. Basically, it would 'go until something went wrong.' Ideally, at least. But without any back and forth on the planning, it may well have been ccish to just wind it up and let it go.
Mina Gemblossom |
Mina is still hanging out to mess up the orcs that come outside via Entangle and Sickening Entangle. She won't use it until there are enough orcs out in the fold, though. :)
Mina Gemblossom |
I'm still limited in doing. I could totally throw out a spell, but it's not an ideal time to do so. It'll be much better to wait until they either come out (and block them out) or hit them as soon as they discover what's going on inside... or so I think.
