"Alicia!" Marikel barks. He hesitates a second then withdraws up the hill, keeping the enemies at bay with his longspear.

Marikel falls back to clear the area for the log trap.

The Patrolman behind whom he moved does the same, crossing in front of the stacked logs in an attempt to draw the orcs into the danger zone. "Hey! Ugly! Come and get me!" he shouts.

Curious and impatient, Vhailor steps to the doorway and peeks around the side...
Move action to AI,15 so he can see properly, then ready a daze if any of the orcs look to come his way.


Vhailor moves to the door to get a better view of the battlefield.

One of the Twisted Nail takes the Patrolman's bait, moving into the danger zone; although the orc pays no particular attention to the cat, his proximity prompts Carbonel to slip back into the doorway of the gatehouse with Vhailor.

The Patrol member behind the first barricade sets his longspear in readiness. "Patrol Captain, fall back to cover!" he urges Omast.

The grievously-injured orc caught between Dorn and his roc takes a fruitless swing at the dwarf before stepping out of the flank.

Atop the wall, the archer on the downhill side of the gatehouse takes another shot into the orcs on the other side of the closed portcullis.

His counterpart, having a clear shot at the orc approaching Kagak, takes it, but a rogue gust of wind sends the arrow astray.

The orc Alicia just stabbed shakes off the wound and returns her attack, but the young woman again easily sidesteps the heavy falchion.

Another orc, incongruously untouched in the midst of the melee, steps into position to flank Dorn and attacks, but he is so distracted by avoiding Marikel's longspear, he takes his eye off his target and misses the dwarf badly.

Vhailor, I'm putting you in AJ15 because the sightlines are better from there; you can see everything in column 17 and greater. That has to be one of the more pathetic runs of d20 rolling I've seen in a while: 5 attempts, and the highest was a 7.


Shaking his head, "I don't think so, laddies." Dorn steps out from being trapped by the orcs and puts himself in flanking position with the healer. "Alright, Padre, let's smash 'em!"

Meanwhile, hovering right next to his dwarven ally, Skyreaver finds himself occupied with his own orc to tear to pieces.

As Dorn steps out of the flank, Omast Frum finds himself with a clear shot and takes it. The bolt fired from the heavy crossbow at near-point-blank range rips through the already-badly-wounded orc's body, and it topples to the ground, lifeless. The Trunauans raise a cheer. "Told you, lads!" the old dwarf grins. "We'll see them all dead before we'll let them past us!"

The dwarf and his companion each bloody their respective opponents, and the last unwounded orcs are unwounded no longer.

Another orc steps up to swing at the roc but misses the agile bird.

"Watch out, little fellow!" the Patrolman by the log trap calls to Vhailor in the gatehouse door. "These logs are fixing to be rolling that way!" He still hesitates, hoping he may be able to catch more than one orc in the danger zone before he cuts the lashings.

The other orc fighting Skyreaver swings wildly, coming closer to injuring his adjacent compatriot than harming the roc.

Kagak, enjoying his relatively safe position behind three Patrolmen, waits and watches.

The Patrolman at the rear barricade scrambles over the obstacle and moves up to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his comrade. "Fall back!" he urges everyone still in front of the barricade. "Get behind cover, and we can hold the line!"

The Patrolman in the gatehouse continues to struggle with the damaged mechanism.

The Patrolman whose portcullis successfully dropped scrambles over the barricade and heads behind its cover for the log trap on the opposite side of the road.

Alicia continues her fighting withdrawal, jabbing at the orc in front of her with her rapier again. Feinting, she kicks up into a reverse aerial flip and retreats northward.

Marikel skewers the orc decidedly and has to raise a booted foot to push the limp body off of his spear.

"Preach it, Padre!" the Patrolman by Kagak whoops triumphantly. Emboldened by the priest's heroics, he pulls out his own longspear and steps into position to jab at the half-orc in the way of the log trap. Although not as successful as Marikel's thrust, the man's spear point comes away bloody.

Vhailor nods and holds his position.


Vhailor and his cat wait.

The orc in the danger zone steps up to return the spearman's attack, but the Patrolman at the log trap isn't about to let his companion be attacked if he can help it. He slashes at the bindings with his greatsword, and, with a rumble, the logs begin to roll downhill. The surprised orc breaks into a choreography of jumps and sidesteps and, by the time the logs crash into rounded wall of the gatehouse, finds himself still on his feet and unharmed by the passage of the timber. He gives a wicked grin and slashes the Patrolman with his falchion. The unfortunate soldier collapses in a spray of arterial blood.

"Damn it! Fall back!" the Patrolman behind Omast Frum reiterates. "Behind the barricade! They won't rush our spears as long as you're out there giving them easy targets!"

Kagak, covered with the spurting blood of the man that just fell beside him, wastes no time in following the instructions, scrambling as quickly as he can over the first barricade and back to the second.

The archers on the walls continue to shoot, the downhill one out into the Lower Quarter, but the uphill one loosing another arrow at the orc that just dropped his comrade. This arrow strikes the Twisted Nail tribesman just beneath the eye and buries itself almost to the fletchings in the orc's head. He drops, twitching, next to the man he just slashed open.

The orc by the second gatehouse starts to follow Alicia around the curve of the wall when he stumbles and collapses.

Male Dwarf

"I told you!" the former Patrol Captain cackles. "Already dead on his feet; it only just now caught up to him! Padre, can you do anything for Fergus there? Everyone else, behind the barricades! We're about to have some more company."

Indeed, as the old dwarf scrambles surprisingly nimbly over the barricade, it is clear that the orcs at the gate will soon succeed by sheer numbers in forcing the portcullis up. He begins to turn the winch on his crossbow to insert a new bolt.

Dorn's maulaxe drops the orc to the ground.

Skyreaver circles the last orc standing this side of the gate, drawing a vicious slash from his falchion that just misses cutting the roc open, and cuts a bloody gash into the orc's shoulder.

Enraged, the orc turns its attention to the bird, delivering another ferocious slash of its falchion that comes close enough to ruffle the roc's feathers but does no damage.

Another Patrolman behind the barricade sets his longspear in readiness for the orcs forcing their way through the gate. The portcullis is halfway up now, the only obstacle holding back the Twisted Nail from ducking under the intervening bodies of their own tribesmates holding up the heavy portcullis. At any moment, more orcs will join the fray.

Inside the gatehouse, the Patrolman continues to struggle with the jammed mechanism. "I think...," he calls hopefully, "I think it's moving!"

The guard from the other gatehouse leaps over the barricade and gets into position to loose the other log trap.

Marikel raises high his silver holy symbol of Iomedae and cries out, "For Valour and Righteousnous. For Iomedae and Trunau!"
A burst of warm glowing energy washes out of him, healing all it touches.

(Marikel channels energy, 30' burst, excluding the standing orc, and the 2 fallen near Dorn. Move if I have to, but catching the fallen guard is my priority.)


Positive energy rushes out from Marikel, and the downed Patrolman groans as he regains consciousness.

An orc rushes under the portcullis being held up by his fellows and takes a wild swing at Skyreaver.

Quickly taking stock of the situation around him, the healed Patrolman struggles to his feet and hobbles toward the barricade. His fellow solder gives him a hand getting over and behind cover.

Frowning as he re-thinks the tactical choices made by his head thus far Vhailor is perplexed and flummoxed a moment. Mouth half opening he's interrupted by a nudge at his calf from feline friend, urging him forward. Bereft of better option or more original thought on the matter... the gnome shrugs and seeks to make passage across the timbers.

Move out to row AH - one left and two down from where Marikel is on the map.


I presume Carb's going with you?

Vhailor makes his way gingerly across the loose logs to rejoin the rest of the defenders.

Having helped his wounded comrade across the barrier, the last Patrolman on the downhill side of the barricade hops across himself and moves down toward the unsprung log trap.

On the path behind the barricade, the readied Patrolmen continue to wait for the enemy's approach.

Kagak hops over the second barricade and motions to the wounded Patrolman to join him. "Come on!" he urges him. "I'll take you to the Longhouse!"

The archer on the wall continues to shoot down into the Lower Quarter on the other side of the wall.

Another orc from the other side of the gate shoves his way past the orcs holding up the portcullis and advances on Dorn, his falchion gleaming. Unfortunately, he nearly trips on his dead tribemate the dwarf just dropped in the road, and his blade swings wildly over Dorn's head.

Another orc moves in behind him and lights some kind of fuse attached to a clay sphere.

Seeing no more orcs standing in his line of sight in the Inner Quarter, the archer on the other wall turns his attention back to the enemies in the Lower Quarter.

Omast Frum finishes reloading his crossbow and raises it to readiness. "Fall back to the barricade!" he roars. "Give me a clear shot!"

As Dorn and his roc move back toward the barricade, Omast Frum shoots his readied crossbow at the nearest orc. The bolt thunks true, driving deep into the orc's torso, but the creature doesn't fall.

The orc beside the one that was just shot charges after the retreating dwarf, but before he can swing his falchion, Marikel interposes his spear and runs the orc through. The corpse slides lifelessly back off the weapon.

"Draw the new ones this way!" the Patrolman by Omast Frum's side calls out, running down the barricade and readying his spear on the other side of the log trap.

With a roar of impatience, another orc on the far side of the gate shoves past those holding up the portcullis. She dashes through and flings a javelin at Dorn, which the dwarf easily sidesteps.

With Alicia's help, the Patrolman struggling with the broken mechanism finally loosens the shards of metal jamming the wheel, and the second portcullis slams shut. He grins at her jubilantly.

The Patrolman at the second trap stands ready to loose the logs if any of the orcs can be persuaded to step in its way.

"Orcs of the Twisted Nail," Marikel draws their attention. "Your plan has failed. Flee or die. Iomedae is with me!"
Marikel nods to the nearby patrol member and lowers his longspear.

Marikel attempts to draw the orcs into the danger zone.

The orc who had attacked Skyreaver takes the bait, chasing after the priest and dodging the opportunistic stab of his longspear. His falchion is turned by Marikel's protective armor.

The wounded Patrolman staggers toward Kagak and over the second barricade.

Gnome Wizard (Familiar Adept) 3

Finally seeing moment where he can put talent to use Vhailor and Carbonel launch into coordinated action. With cat staying close to his heels, the gnome shuffles forward... intent to mind and fingers beginning to waggle with purpose. Drawing near to the line of orcs he intones with latent intent "" as his lensless glasses darken with swirling shadows.

Digits extended a spray of technicolours jet forth with furious though shortlived ferocity, engulfing two orcs in their momentary profusion.

Move to AG - directly below #8 and cast color spray - catching 9 and 10 in it's area of effect.
DC 17 Will save or their hit based on their HD.


The gnome reverses course and unleashes a vivid cone of clashing colors that momentarily envelops the pair of orcs; when it fades, almost before onlookers can squint their eyes against the flash, both orcs fall senseless in their tracks, weapons falling from numb fingers.

The Patrolman moving from the middle of the path takes up a new position on the downhill side of the road and readies his longspear.

The sole Patrolman left in the middle of the road follows.

Kagak hesitates at Marikel's shout.

The archer on the downhill side of the wall takes another shot down into the Lower Quarter and curses loudly as the bowstring stings his fingers on release.

The orc near the portcullis throws his grenade, which sails over the logs to roll to a stop behind the barricade, still spitting sparks. Finding himself a lone target, he begins to pick his way through the loose logs toward the open door of the uphill gate house.

The archer on the wall outside that gate house fires another arrow into the Lower Quarter.

Omast Frum turns the winch on his heavy crossbow, readying to place another bolt into position to fire.

Seeing no other orcs likely to step into the danger zone of the trap, the waiting Patrolman cuts the bindings and releases the logs. The orc that followed Marikel is repeatedly bludgeoned by the freed logs but somehow manages to keep its feet.

With two orcs currently representing the only threat, "Ewch i helpu'r bachgen, Reaver," he points toward Marikel. "Byddaf yn cymryd yr un arall." The dwarf then moves toward said target.

The Patrolman who finally managed to lower the portcullis runs out of the gatehouse to rejoin the rest of the defenders, drawing a longspear. He pulls up short when he almost runs right into the melee outside the door.

He makes his way over to the fallen orcs (AD18) and pulls out the Potion of Enlarge Person that Alicia found on the traitor Vorom.

Gnome Wizard (Familiar Adept) 3

Vhailor manages to squash his gnomish excitement at the results of his spell and sees Marikel approaching. Pointing at the fallen orcs he warns "Umm.... they're probably not going to stay down for too long... should we... um..." miming bonking them on the head with his staff.

Effectively delaying.


Carried away with excitement, a couple of the Patrolmen leap over the barricade and rush toward the downed orcs in the road. "I'd be happy to do the honors, little mister," one volunteers.

Victory appearing nearly achieved, Kagak jumps back over the barricades and jogs up to share in the celebration.

Atop the wall, the downhill archer takes another shot at the orcs outside the gate.

The orc Dorn chased down hurriedly picks his way across the loose timber to the gatehouse. Although he opens himself up to another blow from the dwarf's maulaxe, he makes it inside and slams the door.

Atop the wall, unaware of the intruder in the gatehouse, the other archer shoots an arrow down into the Lower Quarter.
