The Balladeer |
Vhailor Fort 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Carbonel Fort 1d20 ⇒ 17
As Marikel inhales the thick smoke, he begins to cough uncontrollably. He forces himself to keep moving forward as quickly as he can manage.
Vhailor stumbles half-blindly after him, his eyes watering and lungs crying out for fresh air. Carbonel digs his claws into the gnome's shoulder as if to motivate him to hurry.
Dorn and Alicia continue to douse the burning tree. The flames are almost out now.
Round 2: Marikel moves
Vhailor moves
Dorn puts out fire
Alicia puts out fire
1 more round until the fire is out. Fort DC for Marikel, Vhailor, and Carbonel this round is 17.
The Balladeer |
Marikel trudges stolidly on, almost running into the scorched wooden door of a building before he sees it right in front of him. The smoke is still too thick in the air for him to see clearly, but it sounds as if weak calls for help are coming from the second story.
Vhailor continues to stumble forward blindly, feeling increasingly sick and weak from the fumes.
Dorn and Alicia succeed in dousing the last of the flames licking at the trees, but the smoke is still obscuring clear vision and healthful breathing.
Round 3: Marikel moves
Vhailor moves
Dorn puts out fire
Alicia puts out fire
Marikel takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 points nonlethal damage.
Vhailor takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 points nonlethal damage and 1 point Con damage.
The fire is out, but the smoke will persist for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. Fort DC for Marikel, Vhailor, and Carbonel this round is 17. If Dorn, Alicia, and/or Skyreaver follow them into the smoke, their DC is 15.
Marikel Selentin |
"There's someone *cough* inside," Marikel croaks through the smoke.
Hoping dubiously for fresher air inside, he tests the door handle and struggles through if able. If unable, he tries to kick the door down.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Vhailor Falk |
Vhailor: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Carbonel: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Both gnome and cat continue to cough, sputter and wheeze their way painfully slowly forward... some blood mixed with the frothy spittle forming upon the small one's lips. But perseverance pays as the gnome somehow manages a second wind... though Carbonel messily vomits down his tunic as the cat continues to struggle.
The Balladeer |
Marikel just manages to yank the door open. The air inside is hazy with smoke that has seeped in, but he can see a staircase leading to the second floor.
Vhailor manages to find a lungful of relatively clean air beneath the burned tree and catches up to Marikel as he has just opened the door to the house.
Dorn charges, unperturbed, through the dispersing smoke, but Alicia once again gets a stomach-turning mouthful and can only stagger after him.
Round 4: Marikel opens door
Vhailor double-moves
Dorn double-moves
Alicia moves
Marikel takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 points nonlethal damage & 1 point Con damage.
Vhailor takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 points nonlethal damage.
Carbonel takes 1d6 ⇒ 4 points nonlethal damage.
Vhailor, you have some move left after you reach Marikel at the door; may I presume you'll head up the stairs, or are you going to let someone else take the lead?
The Balladeer |
Dorn 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Skyreaver 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Marikel 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Vhailor 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Carbonel 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Enemy #9 1d20 ⇒ 2
Enemy #10 1d20 ⇒ 3
Enemy #11 1d20 ⇒ 3
roll-off: Enemy #10 1d20 ⇒ 12 Enemy #11 1d20 ⇒ 15
Marikel rushes up the stairs.
Your action is a little out of order, but you double-moved up the stairs in round 5. You will be able to act again in round 6.
Outside, as the smoke clears, the terrain nearer the gate to the Lower Quarter becomes visible ... and the party becomes visible to a trio of half-orcs who had been on the far side of the cloud of smoke.
Round 5 init: Alicia, Vhailor, Carbonel, Skyreaver, Dorn, Marikel (double-moved), Enemy #11, Enemy #10, Enemy #9
Current effects: longstrider (Dorn)
Not making a new map to remove the fire/smoke; just pretend it isn't there. I have added the trunks of the trees which provide cover.
Vhailor Falk |
Mildly miffed that the half-orcen are standing so perfectly together, but are too far away to be caught by his middling incantations - Vhailor pauses, hoping that they might draw closer and more susceptible to his charms...
Readied move action to R,42 if the half-orcs look to be coming t'wards him or making aggressive motion specifically to him.
Otherwise he'll be attempting to look non-threatening compared to the small girl and the muscular war-ready dwarf...
Dorn Desslach |
Skyreaver delays
Dorn hollers at Skyreaver to hold his position(Down I guess it would be) and moves up next to the tree before hollering at Skyreaver again to come to him.
Dorn moves to W 34. That's it. No way he's rushing into 3 by himself. Had to get Skyreaver closer.
Upon hearing the new command, Skyreaver moves up next to his dwarven companion.
Move to X 34
Dorn's AC 18; Hp's 29/31
Skyreaver's AC 25; Hp's 10/10
The Balladeer |
Ali advances, taking cover behind the charred tree.
Vhailor watches the enemies warily, ready to duck behind the building if they make any threatening moves.
Dorn and Skyreaver advance cautiously toward the new threat.
Showing none of the dwarf's caution, one of the half-orcs draws a battleaxe and, with a shout, charges the roc, which, nevertheless, manages to flutter out of the way.
Frustrated by his own companion in getting a clear shot at the dwarf or bird, a second half-orc unshoulders a bow and moves nearer the Cliffside line of buildings to draw a bead on the gnome; however, when Vhailor sees the arrow nocked, he scarpers around the edge of the building, leaving the half-orc without an immediate target.
The third half-orc remains where he is warily, holding a shortspear and a shield so as to protect himself from attack.
Alicia double-moves
Vhailor readies
Skyreaver delays
Dorn double-moves
Skyreaver double-moves
Enemy #11 charges to X33, drawing weapon, & attacks Skyreaver 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Vhailor moves, triggered by Enemy #10's action
Enemy #10 moves, drawing weapon, & readies
Enemy #9 draws weapon & Total Defense
Round 6 init: Alicia, Carbonel (delaying), Dorn, Skyreaver, Marikel, Enemy #11, Vhailor, Enemy #10 (readying), Enemy #9
Current effects: longstrider (Dorn)
Alicia Dawnblade |
Alicia darts out from behind cover and dives past the nearest half-orc in a somersault. Coming out from her roll behind him, she attempts to stab him in the back. Tumble to X32.
Acrobatics with Belt of Tumbling: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Dorn Desslach |
Surprised by the rogue moving deftly behind the half-orc, the dwarf grins. "Nice work, lass!" he compliments, bringing his hammer down toward the enemy.
Mwk Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Skyreaver then unloads claw and beak upon the half-orc, attempting to tear it to pieces.
Bite: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 2 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Talons: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22

Dorn's AC 18; Hp's 29/31
Skyreaver's AC 25; Hp's 10/10
The Balladeer |
As Alicia dashes around the tree, she provides a tempting target for the half-orc with the bow. His arrow zips through the flesh of her upper arm.
Unfazed by the pain, Ali sinks the business end of her rapier deeply into the other half-orc's internal organs before he knows what has stabbed him. He slides limply off her blade, his axe tumbling to the ground.
Enemy #10 attacks, triggered by Alicia's move 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 damage 1d8 ⇒ 2
Alicia moves and attacks
Round 6 init: Enemy #10, Alicia, Carbonel (delaying), Dorn, Skyreaver, Marikel, Enemy #11, Vhailor, Enemy #9
Current effects: longstrider (Dorn)
Sorry, Dorn; Ali stabbed your target real good. You'll have to use your attacks on #9 or 10 ... and Reaver can't full-attack. ;) Which one(s) do you want to apply those rolls to after a move: the one with the bow or the one with the shield and spear?
The Balladeer |
Dorn and Skyreaver dash toward the bowman. The dwarf's hammer strikes a bone-crushing blow to the half-orc's leg, and the roc finishes the enemy with a vicious bite.
Dorn moves & attacks
Skyreaver moves & attacks
Round 6 init: Enemy #10, Alicia, Carbonel (delaying), Dorn, Skyreaver, Marikel, Enemy #11, Vhailor, Enemy #9
Current effects: longstrider (Dorn)
Vhailor Falk |
Peering back around the corner to find two thirds of the half-orcs rendered into spare change and meat chunks, Vhailor measures the distance to the last and realises he's unlikely to make impact in short order. Instead he looks to jog forward and position himself for the unlikely event that the sole remaining enemy survives.
Double move to V,36
The Balladeer |
Vhailor moves up to take cover behind the tree trunk.
The only half-orc left standing wants nothing to do with the dwarf and his bird; instead, he circles cautiously around Alicia before stepping in and jabbing with his shortspear, an attack which comes nowhere close to endangering the girl.
Vhailor double-moves
Enemy #9 moves to Y32 & attacks Alicia 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Round 7 init: Enemy #10, Alicia, Carbonel (delaying), Dorn, Skyreaver, Marikel, Enemy #11, Vhailor, Enemy #9
Current effects: longstrider (Dorn)
Dorn Desslach |
Noticing there's only one left and it's upon the rogue, "I'm comin', lass!" he hollers as he moves to help, calling Skyreaver to attack as well. Noticing the half-orc with a wicked cut upon him, "Looks like he's the one needin' the help, lass," he says with a wry grin before swinging his hammer down toward the half-orc.
Move to X 31
Mwk Warhammer: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
AC 18; Hp's 31/31
Skyreaver |
Skyreaver follows and moves to flank with the dwarf and attacks the half-orc.
Move to Z 33(I think that's flanking position)
Bite: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
AC 25; Hp's 10/10
The Balladeer |
Alicia stabs the last half-orc, and he falls to the ground.
Dorn and Skyreaver stand ready to rush to Ali's aid but have no need. The three combatants and Vhailor are outside with no visible enemies, but Marikel is nowhere in sight....
Need a different round 7 action for Dorn/Skyreaver since there are no enemies left.
Dorn Desslach |
I knew it! I figured that dude was dead and should've waited. Ah well. A bit of retcon then.
"I'm comin', lass!" Dorn's just about to take off when he sees the last one fall. Impressed by the woman's warrior like ability, "Um, I'm thinkin' you got it covered, lass! Good work! I'll just do somethin' else." He looks around for any more and spots none, nor does he spot the cleric. "Okay, anybody know where the Padre went? 'Cause I'm thinkin' we've finished up out here fairly well." He nods as a matter of fact, shrugging.
Skyreaver lands and starts picking at something under his wing.
Delay
The Balladeer |
The group charges in the door that Marikel is standing in and starts upstairs. Skyreaver swoops in over everyone's head and perches upstairs on the landing, waiting for them to catch up.
Marikel rushes up the stairs to show the party a door blocked by a massive chest of drawers. It was once on casters, but they have been deliberately broken; it is clear it will take a concerted effort to move the furniture and clear the doorway.
Round 7: Alicia attacks
Marikel double-moves
Dorn double-moves
Skyreaver double-moves
Vhailor double-moves
Round 8: Alicia double-moves
Marikel double-moves
Str checks from anyone attempting to move the furniture. Aid Anothers can also be rolled.
Dorn Desslach |
Studying the blocked pathway a moment, "Alright, let's see if we get this junk out of the way, huh?" The dwarf then leans into it and heaves with all he has.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 If possible, aid another. 'Cause I'd just throw my back out moving a lawn chair with that pathetic roll.
If not, worse comes to worst, I say we destroy the thing. :)
The Balladeer |
Between them, and with Alicia's improvised tool, the three manage to muscle the heavy furniture away from the closed door.
Round 8: Alicia double-moves
Marikel double-moves
Dorn Aids Another
Skyreaver delays
Vhailor delays
Round 9: Alicia makes Str check
Marikel makes Str check
Vhailor and Dorn can act this round.
The Balladeer |
Dorn opens the door to reveal a room full of the greenish smoke that wafted from the burning trees. Outside, the breeze dispersed the cloud, but in this room, the haze has remained. Across the room, a rectangular smudge of light reveals the window where the smoke gained entrance; just visible on the floorboards is the crumpled shape of a collapsed humanoid. It is clear that entering this room will pose the same dangers entering the cloud of smoke on the road did.
Dorn, you have a standard or move action left. Entering the smoke-filled room will require a DC 15 Fort save to avoid being nauseated.
Dorn Desslach |
Seeing the crumpled form, "We've got a body! I'm gonna try and get 'em out!" Dorn moves in and attempts to collect the unknown form and bring it back out.
Move to the body
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
As he clutches his stomach which has begun to writhe in pain, he fights through it as best he can and continues toward the body.
Vhailor Falk |
Calling upon his gnomish abilities Vhailor begins to make an attempt at not necessarily clearing... but at least minimising the poisonous fume. He tries to provide at least a bit of airflow first to the body near it's head.
Using prestidigitation to attempt to 'improve the airflow a bit'... not expecting it'll have much effect though.
