Right now the dwarf has longstrider active, which means you only have to outrun the cleric in medium armor. ;)

The cleric isn't running- but he was hoping to be a move action from the Giant. Ah well, we're about to learn some stuff :-)

Hey, Javell, I just realized -- because I have a really hard time parsing reach, especially on oversized characters -- that it seems like it was your intention for Skyreaver not to provoke an AoO, but Dorn called him out of a threatened square so he will provoke unless he moves only 5 feet. Do you want to move him to C5 instead, which would be a non-provoking 5-foot-fly, or keep him in C4 and take a chance with the AoO?

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Marikel is charging, whether there's an AoO to be had or not. I'd rather the 'replacable' animal companion took the AoO, but if Marikel's time has come, so be it. :-)

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Might as well take the chance.

That might be better cast on Dorn. Marikel is going down after the next hit.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

You know, Marikel might have a point. I only say that because Dorn has lead blades cast on his weapon. :)

Imagine that kind of pain I could bring that big ol' chump. (Well, barring I don't get dropped in one shot and can actually hit the thing). :P

I'm not sure she can tell how injured Marikel is. She mainly went with Marikel because he's in the message spell and Dorn isn't, so she could warn Marikel. Of course, if Marikel suggests she puts it on Dorn, she could easily do so, since she doesn't actually decide until the spell is cast anyway.

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Good. If Marikel is not standing when the spell is cast, Dorn is the obvious choice. While I point out Dorn should have the spell, Marikel is unlikely to suggest such a thing. Marikel can be a bit self centered sometimes. Though he has a high enough wisdom... :-)

Joana:

Since Levvy did not finish casting her spell, do you count the spell as being lost, or does she retain it?

I've always considered that if you didn't finish casting it, you didn't expend the slot. (Vancian casting is based on "casting all but the last bit of" the spell when you study it.)

I guess that causes a bit of dissonance with losing a spell when you're damaged while casting, but there ought to be some sort of mental difference between deciding not to complete the casting vs. being forced to.

Okay, sounds good. That's the way I've generally interpreted it as well, though I've encountered both ways from GMs in the past, so I wanted to confirm. Thanks.

Joana wrote:

I meant to put an "after all" somewhere in that sentence, not come off like I'm imparting esoteric knowledge that everyone's not already well aware of. :P

Having a busy week. I hope to update the gameplay thread within 24 hours.

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Hey, Navior. That's a potion of cure moderate wounds. Marikel is only down 9. Are we going to do this or should we rummage a CLW?

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Dorn's got a CLW potion left. Now that he's giving you that one, you can use that one and hold on to the CMW potion for another time if you want.

Yeah, I didn't notice the exact number of hp he was down. But now he's got a CLW from Dorn, Levvy can take the CMW back. :)

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Nice. That's me back to full.
Thanks all.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Did we search the giant? I'm guessing we should probably do that if we didn't.

The giant carried nothing of value, save for a broken breastplate. He appeared to be basically a captive of the orcs used as a warbeast, hence the chains.

Jawn shakes his head. "Too early for news from the outlying farms. I expect they'll send out some teams in the morning to scout the area before allowing anyone to return to their homes. Say, did you say Captain Frum was holding the gate to the Inner Quarter? You might persuade him to send you go back out to aid in the clean-up, and while you're out, if you happened to go in the direction of the farm to see if the barn's still standing or the crops have been burned ... if your group's up for it, that is."

I know you guys are low on resources, so I'll stress that this is an optional mission. There are no innocent townsfolk that will die if you turn it down.

If you guys want to give me a bunch of Spellcraft rolls for those scrolls and vials, we can do some identification in the background during the walk/talk.

That's because Spellcraft can do it all. Sure, you might get some bad rolls, but you can always try again the next day.

I'm not sure how many are needed, so here's a whole bunch of Spellcraft rolls. :)

Before you guys decide what to do about this next encounter, I'll get some of the scrolls and things IDed. Unfortunately, I didn't make a list of the items the party picked up, so I have to go back into the encounters and look at each treasure listing to figure out what's what. I hope to get the time to do that tomorrow (or rather, later today, as it's after midnight here).

Sorry for the delay. Our power went out last night just when I had HeroLab open to go through stat blocks.

Levvy identifies:
potion of clw x3
potion of disguise self
potion of feather fall
potion of hide from undead
scroll of cause fear (divine)
scroll of obscuring mist (divine)
scroll of sanctuary
scroll of summon monster I (divine)

Mahath identifies:

potion of clw
potion of divine favor
scroll of cause fear (divine)
scroll of obscuring mist (divine)
scroll of remove fear (divine)

One scroll remains which neither spellcaster was able to decipher at this time. For further information, see the gameplay thread....

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Are those consecutive or concurrent? :-)

Anything Levvy's roll wasn't high enough for, I went to Mahath's roll. Between them, they identified everything but the one scroll. So that's a total of 8 identified potions, 7 identified scrolls, and one unidentified scroll.

Go ahead and disburse them as desired before dealing with the (possible) encounter Skyreaver has noticed.

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Ah, the good ol' potion of feather fall, for those times when the cliff is sooo high you have a full round to pull out the potion from your backpack and a standard action to drink it. ;-)

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

Can anyone else use divine scrolls? About the only one I'd use would be sanctuary. The rest of the time I tend to swing at things.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

The only one Dorn can use is Obscuring mist. The other divine spells aren't on his spell list. And that takes a 21 UMD roll for that(and that's if they're 1st level spells). And he ain't got no kind of UMD score at all.

So at the very least, he can take those.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Ummmm, oops? Dorn actually has read magic. But in my defense, I had no idea I had it until today! It's not my fault! *Turns and runs*

Male Human Wizard 4 | HP 40 | AC:12 | FF:10 | T:12 | CMB:+2 | CMD:14 | Fort:+3 | Ref:+3 | Will:+6 | Init:+2 | Perc +2 | St:+2 |

I've got a UMD of +8. I could carry them and try to use them in a pinch.

I'm having a very busy week and am unlikely to have a chance to get a combat map ready for at least two days. Sorry for the delay.

Yep, working here. But still not on my character sheet. Most annoying.)

They just rolled an update to the site today; it's probably related to that. I'd report it here.

Ran a 4-1/2 hour RL session today; will update thread tomorrow.

Advance notice that I'm going to be traveling August 22-30. If we're not in combat, I might manage some posts on the road, but I'm not trying to wrangle maps in a hotel room.

Hey, all! I'm alive and back from vacation, but between the multiple extended site outages, unpacking/laundry, and holiday weekend schedule disruptions, I'm struggling for time and energy to jump back in the gameplay. I'm going to aim for Tuesday when I can get back in a routine after Labor Day to get the game going.

For the next week and a half, I am going to be in the process of moving. That means my time online may be spotty since I’ll be off work (where I am often able to post on breaks) and without home internet as utilities are switched. I’ll try to post regularly still, but feel free to bot me at any time if I am holding things up.

Heartfelt apologies for the lost week. I've had a minor adjustment in my routine which has had an outsized effect on my posting schedule. Clearly, I need to figure out a workaround. In the meantime, I will absolutely update the gameplay thread within 24 hours.

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

I'm heading off for 2 weeks holidays, so Marikel may actually give others a chance to speak. I'll still check in and post when I can.

Also Pathfinder: Kingmaker CRPG is chewing my spare time up. I'm loving it :-)

I'm enjoying the Kingmaker crpg too, other than how unforgiving it is with it's hidden timers. ;P The number of bugs is kind of annoying too.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Oh man it is such a great game. And I can't disagree with the time destroying that it does. I swear, you turn it on and the next thing you know it's, like, 89 hours later and you've totally forgotten to eat or sleep. :P

Yeah they still got bugs to work out that's for sure. Definitely be glad when they can get ALL those wrapped up.

I've started alternating between PF:K and Divinity Original Sin 2. When I hit a bug in Kingmaker, I play DOS2 until I hit a fight I can't easily win, then try Kingmaker again. ;P

hp 36 / 36; AC 19; Init +1 Male Human Cleric 4

I've some friends that speak highly of Divinity. I'll look into it when I can double the number of hours in a day. :-?

Heads up that they've released new avatars for the first time in over a year!

Sort by date to get the new ones first. They're mostly Starfinder, which is fair, since people have been making do for kasathas and shirren for a long time now.

Dark Archive

They still don't have a new avatar appropriate for Ansha. Shame I can't use the one in my class/level line that I did myself. ;)

Apologies for the slow posting that will likely continue through the rest of the holiday week.

Navior and markofbane, are you still following along? I know you guys are probably in catch-up mode, as the NPCs are bringing up plot points you weren't around for. Remember that your PCs are similarly in the dark so it wouldn't be out of character for them to ask questions!

Male Human Wizard 4 | HP 40 | AC:12 | FF:10 | T:12 | CMB:+2 | CMD:14 | Fort:+3 | Ref:+3 | Will:+6 | Init:+2 | Perc +2 | St:+2 |

I am still following along. It is a little tough to contribute in this particular exchange just because of the history behind it. I'll keep following along and jump in where it makes sense. But I also have no problem with Marikel and the others driving this particular section.
