The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

MisterLurch is correct. I checked to make sure, I guess it's just skills you can't fail on a 1.

Trying to decide Ryleh's action....would decerebrate work on an elemental?

Elemental Subtype: An elemental is a being composed entirely from one of the four classical elements: air, earth, fire, or water. An elemental has the following features.
• Immunity to bleed, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
• Not subject to critical hits or flanking. Does not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack.
• Proficient with natural weapons only, unless generally humanoid in form, in which case proficient with all simple weapons and any weapons mentioned in its entry.
• Proficient with whatever type of armor (light, medium, or heavy) it is described as wearing, as well as all lighter types. Elementals not indicated as wearing armor are not proficient with armor. Elementals are proficient with shields if they are proficient with any form of armor.
• Elementals do not breathe, eat, or sleep.

Female Half-elf Gestalt Sorcerer6/Dragon Disciple9 // Rogue (Swashbuckler)8/Duelist7

Elementals are immune to mind-affecting things. That's probably gonna include most of what Ryleh can do.
Vai took 57 damage, of her 177 hp.
Also, Vai also has frightful presence, but I checked and they are mind-affecting, so they won't affect the elementals.
Vai definitely can't make the perception check.

The winds and the brutal hit from the elemental causes Vai to flounder mid-air, beginning to plummet towards the imagined ground. She tries to remember her mission. She had to get to Khoda. She needed to drain energy from him. Should she stay and fight? Run to Khoda? She needed to help fight these things. Both Fi and James were also having trouble. She would be damned if she let these creatures hurt her family more. Vai snaps her wings open, coming out of her dive and begins to maneuver into position. Lumos had given her powers. She had to use them. Vai maneuvers into position and unleashes her Spectrum Spray power at the elementals.

Since each of us are fighting one by the looks of it, I'll name the elementals by their combatants. Also, any sensitive light detection equipment trained on this area is probably destroyed by the burst of radiation.
Ryleh: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Fieri: 1d8 ⇒ 6
James: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Enre: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Krays: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Keme: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Vai: 1d8 ⇒ 8

James doubles: 1d8 ⇒ 8 1d8 ⇒ 1
Keme doubles: 1d8 ⇒ 6 1d8 ⇒ 3
Vai doubles: 1d8 ⇒ 7 1d8 ⇒ 8
James Reroll:1d8 ⇒ 2
Vai Reroll:1d8 ⇒ 5

Actual hits (All saves are DC23):
Ryleh: Xray
Fieri: Xray
James: Radio, Microwave
Enre: Xray
Krays: Radio
Keme: Infrared, Xray
Vai: Visible, Gamma

Spectrum spray effects:

1 - Radio - Intense Radio waves heat up the target's body from the inside, causing blisters and burns to erupt all over the target's body. Takes 50 fire damage and must make a fortitude save or become dazed for 1d4 rounds and sickened for 1d4 minutes.
2 - Microwave - Microwaves bombard the target, causing severe burning, and blood vessels to explode. The target must make a reflex save or take 30 fire damage and take 10 bleed damage. A successful save negates the bleed damage.
3 - Infrared - Infrared radiation heats the target to high levels. Target takes 100 fire damage, reflex save for half.
4 - Visible - Incredibly bright visible light strikes the creature. The target must make a fortitude save or become permanently blinded. A successful save means the creature is only dazzled for 1d6 hours. Creatures with Light Sensitivity get no save.
5 - Ultraviolet - UV light degrades the target's immune system, damages their eyes, and burns skin. The target must make a fortitude save or gain a -8 penalty on saves against diseases, become blinded for 1 hour and sickened for 1d6 days. A successful save negates all these effects.
6- X-ray - A blast of intense x-ray radiation causes the target to grow immediately sickened. The target takes 20 acid damage and must make a fortitude save or be nauseated for an hour, and unless they receive immediate treatment they will thereafter die. A successful save reduces the nauseation to 1 round and negates the death effect.
7 - Gamma - The intense gamma ray blast slices through cells, ripping apart DNA and cell structures, and ionizing individual atoms. Living creatures must make a Fortitude save or die instantly. Non-living creatures and creatures that succeed the fortitude save take 20 acid damage instead.
8 - Creature is struck by two rays. Roll twice on the table and apply both effects.

Thanks, that saves me a lot of time looking stuff up....and it's looking like Ryleh may be reduced to using teeth and claws here. All her really good stuff is mind-affecting. :/

they aren't immune to mind-affecting effects?

That's why I just shoot things... But, since Ryleh is part of the collective, what does Phaezerial or James have powers wise?

Ryleh Her usual mode of dress.

Actual damage to Ryleh: 68

Ryleh uses her breath weapon against the elemental that attacked her.

Line of force: 18d8 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 5, 6, 1, 4, 2, 2, 5, 6, 4, 6, 6, 8, 5, 6, 3) = 75
DC 31 Reflex for half.

Actual damage for Keme: 59.

Keme disappears from view.

Greater invisibility and all of Keme's allies get a +6 morale bonus to saves and AC.

Male Quasit (Demon) Gestalt Vitalist/Psion(Telepath) 16

look at his powers on his profile. might i suggest a really strong energy current?

might i also suggest the use of schism?

Schism. One of many powers I considered and had to pass up because it's mind-affecting. Energy current might work however. Next round.

Ryleh, schism affects YOU. it give you, basically, two minds with which to manifest powers. effectively doubling the amount of stuff you can do per round. kinda. read it again.

Agh. Sorry. I read so many many powers in such a short time. They start to blur.

Male Quasit (Demon) Gestalt Vitalist/Psion(Telepath) 16

Phaezeriel becomes very, very still. Ephebe can feel the psychic potential building in him, cresting higher than he should be able to manage. Two thin streams of bright silver begin to trickle down out of his nostrils. Suddenly the power snaps into a pattern demanded by Phaezeriel's will, and a powerful wave of healing washes through the six people in the lab. Before the healing power has a chance to settle in, it is whisked away through the collective and into those who have been damaged.

Phaezeriel manifests Regenerative Aura, taking 2d8 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 in overchannel damage. He and each of his allies in the lab will now heal 25 HP per round. He redirects this healing through the collective to those who need it. Vai, Krays, Jiminy, Keme, and Fierei all heal 30 HP.

With a deep breath Phaezeriel refocuses himself and swiftly creates a second consciousness inside his mind. Second Phaezeriel focuses inwards briefly and the blood coming from his nose stops and more healing floods out though the collective.

Phaezeriel manifests a quickened schism, and his second mind manifests Heal Injuries taking another 1d8 ⇒ 8 overchannel damage, and he directs the healing out into the collective.

Vai is healed 27, which heals her fully.
Krays is healed 15, which heals him fully.
Fierei, Keme, and Jiminy are healed 20 each.
Enre is healed 8.

Male Quasit (Demon) Gestalt Vitalist/Psion(Telepath) 16

One other thing, can I know how much health everyone who is involved in combat has so I can effectively triage?

Jiminy is at 173 out of 185. Fieri is at 154 out of 165. (I think. My math may be fuzzy here.) Keme is at 192 out of 201. And Ryleh is at 502 out of 540.

Now I feel bad for creating something with almost 1,000 hit points for this game...

Why feel bad? I did much the same with the mecha dragon during the madness arc. That many hit points are necessary when you intend to have a bunch of characters ganging up on a single foe. The only reason we're struggling with the elementals is they have really high saves and attack bonus and a whole bunch of immunities. What we need is a way to get a couple of these guys to peel off so we don't have to deal with them all at once. jiminy is working on a plan.

Mine add a rather high AC to that list.

DM DRA's Patented Bucket-O-Saves:
15d20 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 3, 11, 5, 19, 1, 8, 15, 17, 16, 16, 8, 16) = 150 One failure.

@Team 1: AoOs on Krays and Enre:
Vs. Krays: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (16) + 40 = 56
Vs. Enre: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (8) + 40 = 48

vs. Enre: 4d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 6) + 12 = 29
(Not even bothering with the electrical anymore, obvs.)

As you unleash all your various magics and attacks, Krays and Enre both have to try dodge fierce counterattacks as they move in to strike.

The demi-elementals all yowl and shriek with rage as they are hurt by the lot of you; not something they were expecting. Then Vai unleashes her storm of energy attacks and the demi-elemental in front of Enre swells, scrambles, splits, and explodes with an ear-shattering *K-WOOOOOOOOOM!*, causing an expanding ring of electrical shell energy to fly off of it that everyone's magical resistance absorbs.

...

W H A T !

End of round 1, start of round 2

Seeing what Vai did, Khoda himself drops down in altitude to get level with her and swings at the young Sunwake with one of his cloud tendrils, clobbering her with a wind/water attack and immediately "grappling" her with elemental tendrils.

Khoda basically just needs to not roll a 1 to hit/grapple/etc., being a god and all.
To hit: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Auto-grapple attempt on hit: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Vai must succed on a DC40 Will save or take one negative level (or equivalent thereof) from Khoda's Lifedrain special attack.

As Khoda's tendrils squeeze the breath out of her, Vai feels the horrid God of Destruction trying to absorb her very spirit, her life's essence.

@Fei: Each of your blows smashes into the greasy rubbery flesh of this shadow-thing, and with each strike it moves less, and less, and less, and less, until there is an answering blow from a few feet away -- Chen, no doubt -- and the thing stops moving entirely, making a piteous mewling sound not unlike a kicked dog.

::excellent, fei. you are a credit to all of your masters. now we must go one level further and navigate the channels of its mind, to find the door. dig your hands into its flesh, find the bony ridge near the top, which will be very sharp, and spill a single drop of your blood on those ridges. you must then maintain Perfect Calm or your mind will be lost to the shadow.::

I need you to make a DC 40 Fort save to avoid revulsion. If you fail it, you can take no more actions this round.
If you make it, you must make a DC 40 Will save to allow yourself to be hurt by this thing. If you fail it, no more actions this round.
If you make that, you must make 2 outta 3 DC60 Autohypnosis checks to maintain Perfect Calm in the face of what will occur.

And yes, Diamond Body and the like definitely come into play here. :-) The reason you and Chen are here is all the various poisons and toxins these things use for blood won't affect you. You're basically the only people who can really do this.

The elementals have see invisibility? Keme is currently invisible so whether they can still see him will determine if there's a miss chance or not.

Also, thank you so very much evil but not so bright lightning god. That was exactly what I wanted you to do.^.^

Vai hears a voice in her head. It sounds vaguely female.

::Believe.::

Keme teleports right next to Vai and attempts to stab a crystal knife into the tendril squeezing Vai.

The knife is an artifact intended to switch the direction of the life drain. Now let's see if even true strike is good enough to make this hit. :D

1d20 + 46 ⇒ (16) + 46 = 62

::This will count as one, Sunwake.:: A mental voice, feeling like live coals, tells Jiminy in the back of his mind.

A net of fire spreads out between the group and the flying things, apparently as solid as they are white hot. Net(Wall) of Fire with the fire's heat going toward the fliers.

Keme Tokala wrote:

They do not! Thank you for the reminder. 50% miss chance, IIRC. Low means it hits Keme on his way over to Vai: 1d100 ⇒ 40 == Ouch.

Keme Tokala wrote:

Keme brings the knife down hard on Khoda's tendril and meets basically no resistance at all. As such, he executes a perfect somersault in the air as the knife goes right through the concoction of wind and water vapor the lightning god is using to hold Vai in place. The Champion of Hope's arm is now soaking wet, making part of him visible for the moment (let's say one round), but he is otherwise unaffected by this.

With a sickening lurch in his stomach Keme realizes that the tendrils and clouds and whatnot are only usable for buffeting and bashing and holding in place, and are not actually physical. They are merely the mantle of Khoda.

The fox spirit looks over at the hideous giant skull, the only physical part of the would-be God of Destruction -- that is where the knife must strike.

Image

Jiminy barely registered the voice in his head because he was concentrating so hard. As things currently stood there was only one of him because the other versions of him from different realities had all been killed. But if things had been just a little different...if the time demon had been beaten just a little earlier...he grabbed a hold of the fabric of reality and twisted. This would only hold for a few minutes at the most, but that was all he needed.

Four more Jiminies suddenly appeared in the air near the elementals. Not copies either. Actual Jiminies temporarily borrowed from other potential timelines.

Jiminy 0 spent this round summoning. Also he is at 115 hp.

Jiminy 1 casts flesh to stone, bending reality to do away with the size restriction on one of the elementals. DC 30 Fortitude save.

Jiminy 2 casts Polar Ray on another elemental. Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27 Damage:16d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 3, 6, 6, 6, 1, 3, 3, 3, 2, 1, 5, 5, 5) = 54 Cold and 1d4 ⇒ 1 Dexterity drain.

Jiminy 3 attempts to get up close and personal with an elemental to deliver a temporal stasis spell. Melee touch attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (1) + 20 = 21. DC 31 Fort save negates.

Jiminy 4 casts Scintillating Pattern at one of the elementals. If it has less than 20hd then it is confused for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds.

Image

Keme is at 139 hp.

::Hang in there Vai. I'll get it next time, don't worry.::

Image

Fieri is at 91 hp.

Fieri swoops around, directing a cone of flames at the elemental that attacked her.

Damage: 16d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1, 2, 1, 6, 3, 3, 2, 1, 6, 5, 2, 4, 6) = 50
DC 24 reflex for half.

Ryleh Her usual mode of dress.

Ryleh is at 474 hp.

Ryleh manifests a quickened schism and then dimension slide to bring herself right next to the spot where she had seen the stones on Khoda's head. She didn"t know how else to fully distract Khoda from hurting Vai. And manifests Matter Manipulation on one of the crystals to decrease it's hardness by 5 and then attempts to hit it.l

Sunder attempt: 1d20 + 48 ⇒ (13) + 48 = 61
Damage: 4d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 5) + 8 = 23

Save vs. Fieri's cone of flame: 1d20 + 40 ⇒ (18) + 40 = 58

The elemental by Fieri dodges much of the cone, but gets scorched by the remainder of it and spits thunderbolts in its pain, glaring at the songstress phoenix as she arcs around for another attack.

Ryleh's appearance immediately gets Khoda's attention, but the Sunwake matron is far too fast for him to do anything about it. Her hammer blow smashes into one of the Essence Gems on Khoda's forehead, cracking it badly but not yet breaking it entirely (they've got 50 HP each, but only an AC of 25). Nonetheless, the skull lets out a deafening bellow of rage and pain.

That, apparently, hurt.

Vai, take a +4 circumstance bonus on your save vs. Lifedrain due to Ryleh's aid.

Male Kobold (Adult Black dragon) Gestalt Sorceror/Oracle Necromancer; Champion of Death

Pulls out his scythe and tries to hit again...
hit one 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (13) + 32 = 45 for 2d6 + 19 ⇒ (2, 1) + 19 = 22 and 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 4) = 20 neg energy
hit two 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (13) + 27 = 40 for 2d6 + 19 ⇒ (4, 6) + 19 = 29 and 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 2) = 13 neg energy
hit three 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (20) + 22 = 42 for 2d6 + 19 ⇒ (5, 1) + 19 = 25 and 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 3) = 13 neg energy
hit four 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (11) + 17 = 28 for 2d6 + 19 ⇒ (3, 1) + 19 = 23 and 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 5) = 15 neg energy

EDIT: forgot +2 for bane

Krays manages to take a chunk out of the foe before him, hitting twice and sucking away its very life's energy.

One 45, one crit, DR eliminates the normal damage (unless you have some way of overcoming it I don't know about), but the neg energy applies, doing 33 damage.

By my tally, Vai and Enre still get to go in Round 2, here.

F Sylph

"NNNNNNGGGGGGGAHHHHHHHH!"

Back in the lab, Nasima suddenly jerks bolt upright and screams in pain, scaring -- or at least surprising -- the bejeezus out of everybody. She then begins to shake her head violently and starts clawing at her forehead. Percy grabs her arms to restrain her but is far too gentle, and the sylph somehow throws him across the room. The hulking magma elemental crashes into a far wall, breaking some in-progress student projects.

The princess from the plane of air tears off her blindfold, revealing eyes that are orbs of pure electricity. The stone in her forehead is still intact, but is blood red. The aschen cries out in pain as his arm mysteriously breaks. He falls to the floor whimpering.

There is the stink of burnt ozone in the air. Nasima's hair all starts to stick straight out. There is a crackling sound, and she speaks in a voice not her own...

Again, sorry I haven't posted.

I guess I'll need them after all. Jim opens up his chest cavity again, the homunculi scrambling out towards the machine. He himself, however, flips teh switches on a device he created earlier. (Combination Device, Protection from and Resist Energy, Electricity.) He then holds down the Sylph's arms, hoping that his contact will somehow help. Aananda, if you would, could you please help them? Once it's over here, they'll show you what to do. he asks, pointing haphazardly with his head towards the homunculi, struggling to move the machine over to Nasima's head.

The smallest homunculi wheels over an adamantine plate specifically sized for this, into place a few inches over Nasima's head, to try and block her vision, at least temporarily, while they set up the machine.

If the Nat. 20 Autohypnosis check I scored on my last post helps with these three new checks, let me know. I think there should be some benefit for managing to acheive 'Supernal Clarity' in a place like this.* (o.O)

(*And so we can get things moving as I will be AFK starting at 6:00pm EST this afternoon for the weekend) :)

[EDIT]: This is the round immediately following what he just did, so I will just go ahead and assume it does. Wee bonus applied.

Aananda picks up the machine with ease and moves it into position.

Swift Action: Heal check: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24.

Phaezeriel focuses his will once again, and a warm glow surrounds him as healing once again flows out through the collective. The healing comes in two pulses so close together as to be nearly indistinguishable one from the other. At the same time, Vai feels pure restorative energy flowing back into ther, restoring the life to her that Khoda drained away. Phaezeriel gives a grunt of pain as he finishes manifesting, and his lips show silvery liquid upon them. Almost immediately, his breathing eases and the blood trickling from his mouth and nose stops.

Overchannel damage: 5d8 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 1, 6) = 20.

Phaezeriel One manifested Heal Injuries augmented to 19 PP, and passed all of it and the residual healing from Regenerative Aura through to the Plane of Storms. Phaezeriel Two manifested Natural Healing augmented to 8 PP, restoring him fully.

Healing:
Total damage the party is currently suffering = 453 (except I don't have Vai's number)
Total healing coming through the collective this round = 510
Everyone is fully healed, leaving 57 to heal Vai. (if more is needed I will use a quicked healing power to finish the job)

Is Koda doing actual level drain, or simply applying negative levels to Vai? If it is drain, she is restored by one level. If is is negative levels, she is fully restored.

A discordant tinkling sound, barely heard over Nasima's struggle, causes Phaezeriel's head to snap around and focus on one of the larger gems with a frown on his face.

It's actual level drain. He drinks life force.

AoO vs. Enre:
1d20 + 40 ⇒ (6) + 40 = 46
Damage (if applicable)
4d8 + 12 ⇒ (8, 4, 3, 5) + 12 = 32

Khoda redoubles his efforts on containing Vai, and reaches up another tendril to grab Ryleh, obviously seeking to get her away from him. Power knows power.

Round 3:
CMB check to make Vai pinned (just needs to not roll a nat 1): 1d20 ⇒ 17
CMB check to grapple Ryleh. This one, I assume, could fail. 1d20 + 83 ⇒ (16) + 83 = 99

Vai feels her breath being taken away as the wind-tentacles of Khoda constrict her torso even more. It feels like her skin is being flayed and her bones pulverized, by nothing more than fast-moving cloud.

How many levels does he drain per round?
