"Hey, red...what was your real name again? Sorry, I forgot. I'm Jiminy," he said, his eyes changing briefly as he introduced himself.
Pauses with his fork half-way to his mouth, and slowly turns his head.
"Umm...'Red'? Really?" He lowers his fork to the tray and sighs.
"Not one for subtlety, eh, Jim?" He starts to say more, then his eyes catch Tyrinn actualy taking care of her own tray.
"Well will wonders never cease. Her worship is cleaning up after herself." He grins at Jiminy, like he just told the best joke ever, then realizes Jim isn;t in on it, and his smile fades.
"Ghalen. My name is Ghalen. What brings you over to the recluse's table, Jim?"
Jiminy snorted. "Like anyone else knows what I'm talking about. Besides, I leave subtlety to my brother. He's real good at it until he isn't....I think he learned that from Uncle Ryo....Oh, and Jim is the metal guy. I'm Jiminy. Or James, but usually only my family calls me James. I wouldn't care much, but Jim and I work in the same lab most of the time and it gets confusing if folks mix up the names. I also occasionally make a bit of a hobby of hacking into the security feeds. Your conversation with my mom was pretty interesting."
Opens his mouth to say something, probably not very nice, and instead shuts his mouth and pinches the bridge of his nose.
"What can I do for you, exactly, Mr. Jiminy Sunwake?" he says in an exasperated tone.
"Lovely. Well, places everyone. Looks like we've got trouble headed this way. Also, don't crack your thumbs," she said as she pulled out several sheets of paper and started folding them. "It's bad for your joints." She grinned.
"Not sleeping's bad for you too, and I'm doing fine." Oneiro says as he cracks his knuckles and fashions a paper sword. He takes a few more sheets of paper out of his sleeves as an after thought.
Jiminy shrugged. "Nothing in particular. I just wanted to say hello, you know, provide a friendly greeting," he said with a predatory smile. "Make sure that you know that if you ever hurt my family in any way that you'll find out just how extraordinary my abilities can be. Outside of that, I've no particular quarrel with you, and we can never talk again if that's how you prefer it. I can even arrange for you to have one of the first shuttles off the assembly line if you're keen on going home. But it's going to be a while. Sorry. They're just starting to build the factory."

"Yes, you're doing so fine we're traipsing through a dangerous jungle to find a book so you can sleep....and I'm not sure if I should be angry at your defiance or happy that defying me means you're actually treating me like an adult..."
"We'd need a traipse to be traipsing through the jungle, and we wouldn't get very far." The first sounds of whatever is coming can be heard now, faintly. "Be both."
"Well, mostly rough up wimpy looking kids, but I guess that's not really what you're into...uh, one of the student lounges has a pool table I think. But I don't actually know how to play. Well, and the minotaur over there, he takes bets on just about anything. That's fun, especially when playing with someone else's money. Huh. When I say it all out like that it sounds like I really need a hobby other than beating people up. What kind of things do you like to do for fun?"
"To be completely honest, most of my spare time had been spent studying up until now. I have heard of this... pool though. A human pasttime. Would you care to try? I'm not much for gambling."Tyrrin ignored the part about bullying wimpy kids. She felt she had already said her peace to Jaiye, and, by the tone of her voice, she was a little embarrassed about it.
"Ahh. Token threat number two.
Look, you must not have listened too well to that convo you hacked, or you would know that I'm not out to get anybody, let alone your family.
As far as being friendly, even in the Empire you greet a person with threats, unless they are an enemy. I am keenly aware I am out numbered here."

"Funny response to being offered a ride home." He shrugged. "Whatever, I said my piece. You don't hurt my family, I got no problems with you. Let me know if you want to take me up on that offer."
He stood up and started to walk away before turning around. "Oh, and if you need anything, tech-wise, come talk to me. Mom is way too busy to be bothered with trivial stuff."

"Why not? I mean, it's just hitting balls with a stick, right? How hard can it be?"
"Funny response to being offered a ride home." He shrugged. "Whatever, I said my piece. You don't hurt my family, I got no problems with you. Let me know if you want to take me up on that offer."

"Are you 'gems' truly so trusting? Thank you for the offer. I will think on it."

Jiminy grinned. "Who said anything about trust? I'd be stupid to trust you. We keep telling you you're free to leave whenever you want. I swear, you won't be hurt or hunted or anything, before, during, or after your departure. You're honest-to-goodness free to go and I'll get you the first shuttle out of here. Aren't you the one who's being too trusting? You haven't once asked what the catch is. It's a doozy, I'll tell you that much. At least my brother did something right."
Remind me who had the evil alter-ego again? Now who put up new wards to replace the old, failing ones? New wards, I might add, that are also sustained by every bit of expended energy on Agartha.
"Okay, so maybe you can go." Michael relents. "Now tell me how you got in Avalon. The Headmaster would have asked you to come too if you had an ability like mine."
"Oh, well, it's not like yours. See?" A ball of faint white light appears above the table, and Nova tries batting at it. "I can make light, and see no matter how dark it is."
"If that's all then why would you need to come to Avalon?"
"Well... I can kinda hunt with it. Saves arrows when the light acts like arrows. That parts a little harder to use."
"So you used it during that hunt we had? You little cheat!" Michael says as he messes up Anthony's hair.
"You can make force fields and go through rock, but I'm the cheat? You're such a jerk!"
"I'm not worried about being hunted. I've accepted that service to the Empire comes with risks.
I don't usually wonder about a catch if I don't intend to take an offer. But, since you've brought it up, what's the catch?"
"And thanks. For just taking things in stride. I wish I could. Losing all of the other Ephebe's memories is hard....I was supposed to have more time to adjust. But it's good that James is spending less time in the infirmary these days. I don't mind as much when I realize how much less of a strain it is on him now."
"You're still family as far as I'm concerned. Break the news to him gently, since you just know he'll probably offer to help." Ryo says with a smile.

I don't usually wonder about a catch if I don't intend to take an offer. But, since you've brought it up, what's the catch?"
"The really hilarious thing is that I'm actually serious....we're not going to do anything to you. The catch is that as soon as you leave you'll forget this place even exists. So, like I said, you're free to go whenever you like. I'll help. Let me know when you get tired of trying to come up with a solution and accept that you just aren't going to be able to bust us."

She smiled back. "Thanks, Uncle Ryo. I'm doing my best to get used to being a part of a family. It's...a nice change. And I'm looking forward to working on getting the new part of the shool started. And yeah, Krays will probably want to help. But unlike me, he still has classes to attend." ^.^
"See you later," she said, leaving the office and heading back to her room.
Enre nods to Ryleh before takings off his mask. He breaths in before heading off to find what he was looking for. Ryleh however notices his tattoo like markings are darker as well as his skin seems to have an odd tint now.
He moves around before finally finding what he was looking for Enre, stands still for a long while before putting his mask back on. He than heads off to check on Eir and Artōrius. Seeing that Eir was still unconscious, while Artōrius was reading he says "I will be back, later if she wakes up before than, call me." Artōrius nods.
Enre than goes to walk around the school to see if he can find out, what has been going on while he had to deal with his niece and nephew.
After retrieving his meal, Fei gives a quick bow of thanks to the line cooks then takes his dinner outside. With the show only a short time away, many of the students were already heading back to their rooms or to the Auditorium, and the green was all but empty.
The young monk sits down and eats his meal, contentedly taking in the golden warmth of the slowly sinking sun as he does so.
Not really sure what you're looking for Enre. Most of what's going on around school is preparations for the talent show. Trying to find anyone or anything specific?
"The really hilarious thing is that I'm actually serious....we're not going to do anything to you. The catch is that as soon as you leave you'll forget this place even exists. So, like I said, you're free to go whenever you like. I'll help. Let me know when you get tired of trying to come up with a solution and accept that you just aren't going to be able to bust us."
Ghalen chuckles.
"Anything that can be done magicly can be undone magicly. Either way I don't like the idea of my mind being...manipulated...against my will, as I imagine you wouldn't either.
I hate to burst your bubble though, no one knows you exist, and I don't believe anyone cares. Not anymore. My master was ancient as reds go, and thought you all extinct.
I know otherwise, but who would care? What are a handfull of gems againt the might of the Empire? I do not intend to 'bust' anyone, as I do not believe it is necessary.
Rebellions come, and go. The Dragon Empire has existed for millenia, and will continue to do so. It is in everyone's best interest with power that it continue.
If anything, this world should be told it is part of a greater whole, and decieved no longer."
"Why not? I mean, it's just hitting balls with a stick, right? How hard can it be?"
Day one and Tyrrin is already playing pool with the "bad crowd". Next thing she's gonna be smoking.
"That's what I figure."Tyrrin lets Jaiye lead the way to the student lounge, along the way she tries to strike up a conversation about one of her favourite branches of philosophy - epistemology. No doubt a difficult question to broach, especially with Jaiye having already expressed doubts about philosophy.
Saffire looked torn and then reluctantly brings a wriggling shrimp and sets it down in front of Nova.
*meep*
Was this the same creature that had tried to pounce her? Strange... still, who could pass up wriggling shrimp? Playing with it for a moment, Nova claws the shrimp open and begins eating it.
"Well, there's one thing we agree on. The world needs to know what's out there. But we seceded from the Empire centuries ago. As for what a handful of gems can do...wait and see. We're more trouble than you're half prepared for. Haven't you already been having more trouble keeping order in the last couple of decades," he said with a wink.

Jaiye scratches her head. "Ee-pistolmodgyz? Geez, I can't even say it. What's that even supposed to mean?"
Hanging out with smart people was hard, she thought to herself. They always expect you to be able to follow these weird conversations. Ssrena was like that to. Time to break out the nod and smile defense, with agreement when necessary.
Tyrrin smiles, and tries to break down the premise of epistemology into a simple concept."It's a branch of philosophy concerned with knowledge. It goes something like this: We know that sometimes our senses deceive us. Sometimes we see things or hear things that weren't actually there. With that, how can we know if our senses are EVER accurate? How can we know if the universe as we see it is the real universe?"

"I keep hearing this 'we seceeded', but who did? Everyone here or just you and the rebels? Did their ancestors? Do they even know they are part of the Empire? Did they make that choice, or was it made for them? If they chose to re-join, would you try to stop them? A moral quandry, I suppose.
As far as any trouble the Empire may be faced with...I do not concern myself with such things. There is an entire arm of the Empire for enforcement. I was trained for...other duties."
He sighs
"Anyway, if you truly want to work together, I suppose it would be better than nothing.
What skills are you looking for?"
"I keep hearing this 'we seceeded', but who did? Everyone here or just you and the rebels? Did their ancestors? Do they even know they are part of the Empire? Did they make that choice, or was it made for them? If they chose to re-join, would you try to stop them? A moral quandry, I suppose."
Wyrd trails after Ehos cautiously, keeping a tight rein on his emotions. At the kitchen, he notices a distinct lack of rare metals and gems offered as part of the meal and foregoes taking any food.
Tyrrin smiles, and tries to break down the premise of epistemology into a simple concept."It's a branch of philosophy concerned with knowledge. Jaiye frowned as she tried to puzzle all of that out. "But...why does it matter? If it seems real, isn't that good enough? I mean, it's real to me, so why worry about it? If you spend too much time worrying about what is and isn't real, you'll miss everything anyways."
"Well, there's one thing we agree on. The world needs to know what's out there. But we seceded from the Empire centuries ago. As for what a handful of gems can do...wait and see. What skills are you looking for?"
Jiminy walked back to the table and sat down across from Ghalen.
"It was our ancestors who decided. Right now people still need to be told that there even is a whole universe out there full of other worlds. We've been isolated for a long time."
Jiminy shrugged. "It's not really a moral quandry though. If folks want to leave and go to the Empire once they know it exists, they can go. If folks want to come here, they can as long as they can get some Resistance folks to bring them here. I mean, I am building a factory to make shuttlecraft. That does imply that I expect there to be travel off-world. This place is supposed to be a haven not a prison."
"Right now I'm kinda busy trying to rebuild the infrastructure for advanced industry. It's gone unused for a while. You wanna help? Then start thinking of ways to explain to people who have been isolated for centuries what a planet is, and a solar system, and a galaxy, and spaceships and all of that. Kinda like my idiot brother, you make a lot of stupid assumptions about how closed-minded and resistant to change we actually are."
"Oh, and just one more thing. I know you're loyal to the Empire. So tell me, what measures does the Empire take to protect the rights of its citizens from the ruling class? And I already know the answer is none. That's what this place is about. That's what is was always about. I don't want anything to do with an Empire that doesn't grant all sentient species the same rights, or let's one race commit atrocities without any repurcussions. And murdering everyone who disagrees with them only creates an illusion of peace."
Ephebe walked into her room and yawned. Even a quick nap would be appreciated right now. She walked over to where Krays was studying at his desk and hugged him.
"I'm gonna take a nap now, love. I've got some stuff to talk to you about first though."
Looks confused
"I made no such assumption that 'people' were close minded or resistant to change. I actually depend on quite the opposite. Yes, I am loyal to the Empire. It is my experience that you can not equate, say, a goblin and a dragon, and to try to convince either of them they are equal is preposterous. Some deserve to be ruled, and some need to be. Who better to do so than dragons? I'm not going to argue politics with you, as you've already made up your mind.
If you want me to work on plans to get this planet ready for the idea they are just a small part of a whole, I can do that. I won't even propagandize, but I won't refuse to answer questions, either. Deal?"
Tyrrin smiled. That had been her favourite response when she was younger as well."Right, and that's how most people live, otherwise you wouldn't be able to function. And while you're right, thinking about questions like these lead to more important questions, like what can we be justified to believe? It means that we can't always take people at their word, and we have to realize that sometimes our senses fail us. It means we have to be skeptical about anything presented to us."

Jiminy laughed outright, looking more relaxed and friendly as he did so. "Oh, man. I have got to introduce you to Chet. We'll turn your opinion of goblins upside down before you leave here, I promise you that."
"It's a deal, but there will also be someone to provide the other viewpoint to those questions. Fair enough?"
He looked more serious for a second. "And before you talk about how dragons are the best to rule, talk to my little sister for a bit. There's more going on in your Empire than I think you realize."
