Depends on the range involved. My assumption was that she was nowhere close to that thing when she brought out her Caster (or she shouldn't have been, at any rate).

If she's too close, then it's a matter of 'casting/shooting defensively' to try and avoid an AoO.

Yeah, she was shooting from more than ten feet away. Realized after I posted that its reach might be greater than I realized. But she does have feats to help with this problem...however in case she was within reach....

Remember, shooting in melee also provokes an AoO. :P
Though I assume the class deals with that.


It's essentially Casting on the Defensive (As per the PRD below):

Casting Defensively

If you want to cast a spell without provoking any attacks of opportunity, you must make a concentration check (DC 15 + double the level of the spell you're casting) to succeed. You lose the spell if you fail.

It's a set DC based on the level of the spell. It's a concentration check DC 15+ double the spell level. So in this case it was a DC 21.

Asch jumps up on a collapsed locker dressed in only his pants. Shadows form around his hands and when the fade there are two revolvers clasped in his hands. He aims at the ooze with a small smile as he unleashes a torrent of bullets.
The bullets all barely missing Nala's flesh as they tear into the ooze's.....gelatin...

She watches from the doorway, ready to step in if needed, but wanting to see just what her students could do on their own first.


The women's locker-room explodes in a torrent of action and violence.

Two of Nala's posse of die-hard worshippers charge the creature, trying to rescue her. The Jello smacks them lightly and sends them flying.

Slap HIT 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (7) + 21 = 28 DAM 4d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 4) + 16 = 33

Ephebe throws down, dodging backwards as she draws her caster and fires a single shot which explodes against the Jello...

Ephebe almost hesitates to pull the trigger as the jello looks 'confused' at her speech. It speaks to her as her round slams home.

The creature recoils from the eldritch blast but seems unfazed. Its tentacles flicker menacingly.

Tiger-Spin flies in through the hole from the other locker-room, all fangs and claws. With surprising quickness for a slime, a pseudopod lashes out at the tiger.

Undeterred, Tiger-Spin clings to the side of the creature, rocking it. His claws tear horrible rents in the creature. It shivers from the wounds, even though they close somewhat after the claws pass through. Spin sinks his claws in to hold onto the Jello of EVIL and almost tumbles off the side of the creature.

The creature mimics Vakkler, Sinh, and Nasima forming air-pockets and then speaking simultaneously as all three. Can Jello look curious? This one seems to...

Fei slides in taking an errant blow from a tentacle before delivering a series of hammerblows to the creature that shakes under each one like... well... a bowl full of jello. His driving blows almost topple the creature on top of the girl trapped within.

Spank HIT 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (13) + 21 = 34 DAM 4d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 6) + 16 = 32

A legion of Shadows surge around the fighters and swarm the creature. It contorts its body skillfully avoiding some of their attacks. And those that hit have less effect than Krays would have expected. The creatures seems weaker but the cold grasp of the undead seem to have no effect.

The students see the distorted figure of Nala rise shakily and move towards the ooze's wall. It is clear that while her clothes are being consumed, she is unharmed.

Nala presses a hand against the wall, the slime on its surface moves away from her touch, presenting a firm surface. Her speech draws a quake from the beast and an internal pseudo-pod seems to regard her closely.

It is a strange conversation, cut short by Asch's bullets ventilating the beast, though it is clear, some of the holes were the beast forming passages to avoid the bullets.

The creature retracts and condenses in on itself, clearly wounded. Despite the contraction, Nala's space remains the same. It regards its attackers.

Seeing no friendly eyes and plenty of reloading, it defends itself. It shivers and shakes off a thick outer layer of slime sending it raining down across everyone and everything in sight. The slime is bitterly cold.

'Jello Shot' - Supernatural Slime Wave 10d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 4, 1, 3, 6, 1, 3, 3) = 30 Cold Damage - Fort Save DC:29 for Half.

Nala is protected - no save needed.

the sahdows are all ethereal, and Krays did not close to melee...how far out did the burst go? Just in case...

Mr Sinh drips hypothermic goo and looks decidedly displeased. He glanced down at his goo-coated washpail. "Well, at least he got some in the bucket. Less for me to clean up, I suppose."

He tries not to view Nala, whose clothes are disappearing at a staggering rate. Then he sees a heavily slimed part of his sleeve drop off. oh ohhhh...


Krays - if you are in the battle or in the room, you are exposed. My assumption is, if you are in sight of the beast, slime went your way. Your shadows are totally fine since this is a physical slime. Aanandareavekki said she was hovering in the doorway so I'll leave the judgment about whether she was blasted or not to her player. :)

45 damage taken so far..just over half his hp. eesh.

Whether it's the slight shudder he feels through the grappled Jell-O or some amazing feat of inborn heroicism, WhiteTiger-Spin is able to somehow use the Jelly itself to shield himself from the cold goo-ic blast.

Wait! We're supposed to be protecting Ephebe! he thinks and shifts tactics.

He releases his hold, dodging around the huge creature and shifting forms at the same time. His body compresses, only his hind legs and tail remaining large, and a red-brown Kangaroo-Spin lands between Ephebe and the giant jelly. He can see through the jelly, past the encased Nala, to the new kid on the other side. Raising up on his tail, two powerful back legs slam into the jelly in an effort to push him back towards the boy's shower drain.

mechanical movement and rolls:
Shift to Kangaroo form (swift).
Acro to avoid AoO as he moves around the jello to be the meatshield for Ephebe 10 + 22 = 32.
Double-foot-kick attack with free Bull-rush tacked on 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28.
-->damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16.
If that hits, Bull-rush 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33.

It is then that he hears the professor's instructions, and his Kangaroo ears perk up at the little kobold authority figure.

Ouch... under 20 hp, now. Yah i'm just winging it on the actions... i consider it a failure if Spin spends 2 consecutive rounds in the same form. Who knows, maybe that kick will propel the girl out fo the ooze... wishful thinkingmuch?

Kanga-Spin - smacked, oozed, and bleeding - stands his ground while trying to make sense of the teacher's words through the ringing in his overly large ears.


Spin - I readjusted his last attack, forgot to compensate for Kray's little buddies.

Sima, busy keeping a crowd of rubberneckers away from the door, finds her job suddenly made easier when a giant blast of slime gets barfed out the door, splattering violently into the wall. Several kids scream and run, some just look repulsed.

But they all back up.

Tip-toeing tentatively to the door, she peeks around in time to see Spin get hit again, even after Professor Relkav's warning.

"No!"

Thinking fast, she summons all the wind she can muster and sends it to wrap around the ooze in a two-foot-thick, roaring cyclone.

Wind Wall around the ooze, floor-to-ceiling. No save, but SR is legit.

She pulls all of the water vapor out of the considerably humid air of the locker room and causes an obscuring wall of fog to wash down and give her cover, her own abilities allowing her to see at least partially through it, and better than most creatures. She hustles over to Spin and Phebe and starts trying to drag them out. "C'mon you guys! We gotta get out of here! Phebe you gotta be protected and Spin you're hurt! Let the others deal with this for now!"

She's yanking with all her might, but is far too weak to pull them without their assent and assistance.

Asch stands in shock as he gets covered in ooze. His eyes glow bright red and his teeth elongate as he unleashes a hail storm of bullets.

Shadowy tendrils wrap around Asch's body as both revolvers open up ejecting empty shells that dissolve as they clear shadows fill in the empty cylinders with new shadow bullets. Asch smiles a predatory grin as he snaps both guns closed and levels both guns at the ooze arms crossed
over each other.

LOL! Well played.

A wall of wind rises up around the creature, picking up a copious amount of slime from the floor which spins through the vortex in lazy, disgusting, ropey, ribbons. Behold a Slime-nado! Passing through it looks to be a truly gross experience.

The Eldritch Jello moves a large pseudo-pod like a head, as if watching the vortex in fascination.

"'Sima, let go!" she protested, breaking free for a moment. She reached out and touched Spin's shoulder, flooding his body with positive energy.

"Sorry, 'Sima. Didn't mean to snap at you."

Nasima stops trying to haul out her friends. "No, it's okay...it's okay, we just...Professor Relkav said...I mean...we gotta go!"

Taking stock while Ephebe heals Spin -- What's...that look...in her eyes...? -- she grabs the other girl's things.

"I can cover us as we leave so you can at least get your clothes on, but shouldn't we get out of here? Or...oh no...is this one of those times when you guys have to stay and fight?"

The blow from the pseudopod only barely misses him as he almost skates across the slick surface.

And the shower of cold slime does not seem to cause him any great inconvenience as of yet.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (15) + 28 = 43

Though the area roils in sound and chaos, he pushes past those distractions and is able to hear the creature's attempts at something almost passing for speech. Being right on the edge of the whirling slime, he calls out in a loud, steady voice:

"Why do you hold this person against her will?"

It is only now that Nasima notices Nala, deep in the heart of the Jello.

"Oh no." Her eyes get wide and she looks around. Wincing at the stupidity of what she's about to do, she turns into a vaporous mass of air, all her clothes and possessions immediately falling through her onto the ground. Nasima-as-air-elemental dives into the wind wall, getting whirled and spun around at impossible speeds before she relaxes her form and simply becomes part of the tempest. She coalesces into a whirlwind and begins to drill into the side of the jello, not trying to hurt it, but just trying to make it open a hole in itself to avoid getting turned into an Eldritch Scrambler by the 100+ MPH winds.

As a small hole develops -- not much, but enough for a young girl -- wind-Nasima speaks: "Nnnnnaaaallaaaaaa! Jjjjuuummmmmpppppp!"

"AGH!" The second Nala gets clear, lightly jumping out and executing a perfect tuck-and-roll, Air-'Sima suddenly re-coalesces and gets flung outward at a very, very high speed by her own wind spell. With a terrible crash she bangs into some lockers and lands with a thud.

"OOF! Owwwwwwww..." Feeling every bone in her body rattle and bend. She pulls thick coils of fog around her and Nala's naked bodies. The vapor is still at least vaguely warm, having come mostly from hot showers, and it at least provides cover.

The sylph looks around. "You guys! Can somebody do something about this thing? What IS it?" She starts picking up her things and limping back to the door. She saw that slime-spray earlier and knows that if another happens, she'll be toast.

"Nala, Spin, Phebe, come on, we gotta get outta here!"

"Attack Roll" to grab (if necessary): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (15) + 19 = 34

Then hauling tuckus at a speed of 120 ft. Make that a quad move actually... (O.o)


The Eldritch Jello has wondrous control of its shape and allows the Nasima-elemental to make no more than a handwidth hole through its body. It's edges turn even more purple at the intrusion, but it doesn't attack.

Time slows to a molasses trickle as Nala makes for the opening and the new kid -- who is this guy, anyway? must say hi if i survive this -- steps up to help. If her teeth were physical, Nasima would be gritting them.

"IIIIIIII...cccannnnnnnn'ttt...hhhhhooollllllllddd...tthhhissssssss...!" Vainly she tries to expand her boundaries as a cyclone, but she's too small and the Jello is terribly, terribly strong.
