then an odd sound

materializing in the center of the infirmary out of thin air, a metal cylinder about 5 feet diameter and about 6 feet high.

there is a sudden surge in artron radiation emanating from the cylinder.

there also appears to be several scorch marks on the sides of it, that look a lot like reside from energy weapons.

give some a chance to respond first here

"I have no idea what that is. Some kind of life pod perhaps? It's definitely got lots of artron energy around it. Is there any kind of door or anything visible?" she asked.

Tamina came running out of the isolation room. She needed to get Vai there fast. Like now, fast. She was trying to come up with a plan when she saw Vai's mom sitting in a chair. She had an IV with her. Well, that couldn't be good. And everyone was staring at a large metal cylinder in the center of the room. Well, that was fine, but her best friend's life was on the line, and she was pretty sure Phaezeriel's might be too.
"Professor Sunwake, I need your help. It's Phaezeriel. He was helping Ginni and something went terribly wrong. He told me to go get Vai. Time is of the essence here. Can you please sent out an announcement or something? I'm not sure there's time enough for me to go looking for her," she pleaded.

Aananda looked concerned. "All right. I can do better than that."

::Vai, there's an emergency in the infirmary. Phaezeriel is asking for you. I'm told that it is a very urgent request. As in teleport, don't walk,:: she sent telepathically to her youngest daughter.

"I've contacted her telepathically. I made sure to tell her it was urgent."

If she thinks that there is a problem, it is at least worth investigating. I would like to begin with the same sort of spells that she has already cast. Because I have more experience with magic than she does, I might gain information that she missed. Once that is done I will know more about what the next step should be. I assure you that I will not proceed with anything without your express permission.

"Gotcha. Well, rest assured-- proper gent here. How can I help? Not exactly 100% beyond the physical, and I know I don't feel right... so..."

He shrugs at that and then adds, "Go for it. When we start talking mental probes, that's where I'll start getting nervous. Bad habit. Not entirely sure why anymore."

"Many people feel anxious about mental probes, Tryko'Sam. It is nothing that I am not used to working with. This is why I take the time to reassure students that I will not do anything without permission. No mental scans or examining of memories or anything that you don't agree to before hand. If you do not agree to something I will work with you to find some other way to gain the necessary information that you are comfortable with," she said primly.

She spoke, or maybe sang, it was hard to tell a word and paced slowly around him as she examined the magic in his aura.
Same suite of spells as before. No need to go into the alignment ones. We'll just worry about Detect Magic and Detect Charm.

::We have, at best, between 1 and 5 minutes to clear this area before the magic here detonates.:: Fei updates telepathically as he continues forward toward his objective.

Unless he is intercepted or attacked by either of the two women at the circle, Fei tries to get to Raelle and pick her up.

If anything on his Spellcraft checks tell him that entering the circle is a bad idea, he will alter his action accordingly.

As Fei moves to pick up the unconscious Raelle, Aine del Sol moves to cast some sort of spell that is interrupted by a line of force slamming into both Fiilah and her ladyship, causing her to lose her concentration. Fei would recognize this as Jiminy's breath weapon.

::Get her out of here quickly,:: he said, grimly.

Ginni practically slammed into the recently un-mazed demon-Ginni, causing her to become sliver mist that Ginni absorbed. She then blinked over to the last remaining demon-Ginni who was fleeing the ever-growing army of Phaezeriels.

"We need to set aside our differences. I get that we're fighting each other for control, but if we don't deal with that mess you just made, there won't be anything left to fight over. We both want to survive, and to do that we're going to need to work together," Ginni said.

Demon-Ginni looked dubious, but then she looked back at the army of Phaezeriels and shuddered. "Fine," she said. "A temporary truce. What exactly did you have in mind?"

After pacing around him for a full five minutes, Miss Jones stopped right in front of Tryko'Sam. "You have some very interesting effects on you, young man. I am not surprised that Miss Sunwake was concerned. To begin with, have you had any memory altering magics or abilities used on you recently that you are aware of? Or any charisma enhancements? I would like to rule out any benign spells or powers that were done with your knowledge."

Tryko'Sam has a rather full s+$$ eating grin on his face right after she says, 'young man', then shrugs and replies to her.

"I know something is off. I think it had to do with those demons, or that winged guy. Not the girl in the school, she's cool. The other places-- beings, things. Not humanoid, for sure." He glances over to a chair and sits, with eyes closed, not wanting to focus on the room though trying to express his feelings.

"If I suddenly fall through a hole, I promise I'll come back-- if I remember," he suddenly blurts out through clenched teeth.

Miss Jones would not notice any of the effects she's studying altering him in any way here-- so it's clearly another effect at work. In clinical terms, he's potentially insane. Sent you another message as well.

Wasting no time, Fei picks Raelle up as he mentally instructs his neural lace to engage the nanosuit's starcaster...and jettison a small group of nanites to monitor the situation here while he is gone.

The two promptly vanish...and reappear in the Infirmary.

Remembering that he still cannot communicate verbally due to the silence effect, the young monk quickly strides over to an open isolation room and carefully lays Raelle in the bed there. Grabbing up the room's datapad, he downloads all of the information he has obtained on her condition from his brief contact with her, and hands it to the first orderly that comes up to him as he leaves the room and closes the door.

Taking the few seconds that the orderly is distracted with the datapad, Fei quickly checks the feed from the nanites he left behind, then uses his Champion ability to teleport back to the building (in a tactically-advantageous position for his teammates)...

Fei, feel free to decide where you think would be the most advantageous position to reappear.

Vai had been enjoying the peace and quiet in the hatchery when her mom had sent her an urgent message. She reflexively touched her hand to the necklace that hung at her throat right before she teleported to a spot right next to Phaezeriel.
"What is it?" she asked, concerned. "What's wrong, Phaeze?"

In Ginni's Mind

Phaezeriel opens their hundred eyes, fixing their glowing red stare on Ace. A frown creases Phazeriel's brows, and he looks back over their shoulders at the pillar behind them. A silver pulse travels slowly down the pillar, bright as the moon in its contrast to the dark pulses of power. It is slower than the dark pulses of power, and several of them flow down the pillar right through it, neither affected by the other. One of Phaezeriel turns its face back to Ace, and there is a tiny bit of silver seeping back into his eyes, just at the edges. ::My meddling self has terrible timing...:: There is an abrupt inrushing of air as all of Phaezeriel simply winks out of existence, his mind returning to his own body.

Isolation Room

Phaezeriel looks a right mess. He is bigger than he was before, his skin is swollen and pulsating with a slow rhythm, there are odd bulges in seemingly random places on his body, and the whole mass seems to be gathering a darkness around it. Vai cannot remember Phaezeriel looking this hideous .. pretty much ever.

His eyes crack open, and the malignant red light that floods forth is shocking by its abrupt contrast to the expected silver glow. His eyes fix on Vai, and his tumescent arms twitch slightly, his wings rustle limply. His eyes lock onto Vai and a shudder runs through him. A thread of silver seeps into his eyes, swirling with the red as he shudders once more.

He reaches out to Vai with his thoughts, but is unable to communicate coherently. She can sense the immense strain within him, which tells her the root of the problem. Somehow the demonic nature within him, normally well controlled, has slipped its leash and is running the show. He is not sure what is happening to him physically, but he is more concerned with the integrity of his mind.

Her presence there is enough to remind him why he should fight to gain control again. Finally his thoughts come clear for just a moment before the chaos of a mind and body running amok overwhelms them once more, ::Talk .. To .. Me .. Anything.::

"Anyone who cares about their appearance over being sane, has a lot to learn. Thank you, Miss." He looked puzzled for a second, glancing about then back to her quizzically as if he heard something, but didn't grasp the source. Considering what all was going on currently, another bridge to cross later on.

Glancing between the two in the room he adds, "I ... feel much more calm, no stray thoughts presently, or feelings of ...hah. Wild. All this in a scarf? Powerful magics, guess this is expensive? I'll do what I can to keep it safe." With that said, he wraps it around his neck, so that it hands with two ends on his chest and back, looping once or twice as needed.

The effects can be noticed immediately, he even radiates a bit of calm, but that's likely due to his overwhelming charm which he does exuded unconsciously. Mere beings (or overly unperceptive) would be subject to it instantly, though it's not magical or psionic-- something completely typeless.

A few more heart beats and he states, "Wow, like -- wow. Okay. Focused. Finally. What now? I owe you girls a fine dinner or drinks. You ever need to get somewhere fast, just ask."

"That's one possible reason," Morrivan said, hands on her hips. "But it ignores some other possibilities. I may not be a firebird, but I have noticed that Raelle's dad is kinda a big deal among your people. So that might have played a factor. Or worse. I've been Raelle's roommate and friend for almost a year now. And I've noticed some things. First of all, she's gorgeous. Secondly, this fact is not lost on the boys around her. Especially the firebird ones. They basically drool over her, occasionally literally," she added, rolling her eyes. "And that didn't stop when she broke out in psionic tattoos and got a boyfriend. Now I'm really hoping that that isn't the reason why she was taken. I really, really hope that. But it's on the list of possibilities. Unfortunately."
igni stands quietly, mostly expressionless. Seeming to lack anything to say.

"Oh, never mind. I don't know why I'm even wasting my time. I'll just go back to the school and drive myself quietly crazy while I wait for news," she said, throwing up her hands and stalking off.

Ginni's Mind

And the truce was off almost as soon as it began as Phaezeriel disappeared from Ginni's mental landscape. But Ginni had been prepared for something like that. She grabbed at Demon-Ginni, not even trying very hard to avoid the claws and the kicks and even the bites. She was not going to lose now. The longer she could hold on, the closer she was to winning control of her own mind for good.
"It's true, I do hate myself sometimes," Ginni ground out as Demon-Ginni continued to lash out at her. "All my life I've been told that I'm bad just because of my demon blood. And it's really hard not to believe everyone you've ever met. But that's still wrong. I don't have to be evil just because I'm a demon. And I don't have to distance myself from who I really am in order to be good. I didn't even know I was doing that. That's a really awful lie. I can be good and be a demon at the same time. Okay, it's gonna be harder, but I don't have to hate myself. It's not like I'm a paladin or anything. I can be okay with being me."

Ginni fell to the 'ground' wounded but still alive as the last Demon-Ginni vanished into silver mist.

"But I think that for you this is only a temporary fix. I would like to get to the heart of what is causing your problems. Not to mention what is producing the enchantment effect you are still emanating. Professional curiosity if nothing else. This Maya Rhys you spoke of, is she available to consult? I think that it would be most helpful to understand your history in order to understand what is going on now. You may keep the scarf until you no longer need it, but I would like to facilitate your no longer needing it."

"Maya? sure -- she works here now, I believe. I'd call her up, but no cell," he says with a grin at some joke. "Want me to fetch her? I'm pretty sure she's probably teaching someone or reading more. She's a brainiac, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If anyone can give you a good snapshot of a part of ...recent, history, she might. Or we can go to the SIM Room, I'll whip up a program that unloads the thoughts and memories best I can straight from the source."

He stands up, actually smiling, waiting for the choice.

"As for being charming, someone -- if I recall right -- just said it's due to what makes me, me. Maybe my personality is just charming." This affects a larger grin.

"Yes, there are plenty of people who are naturally charismatic. This does not produce an enchantment aura. I am simply trying to determine if it was something done to you, which needs to be undone, or some part of your own natural abilities, in which case you should be enrolled in my class so you can learn to control it. And yes, if you would be so good as to fetch Professor Rhys, I would appreciate that," she said primly.

After Phaez disappears, Ace relaxes visibly, and puts his staff away. He takes a deep, calming breath, as he was really glad he didn't have to fight his friend.

He then sees Ginni absorb the last demon aspect of herself, falling to the ground afterwords. Striding over to her, he kneels down next to her ::"You OK love?"::

I'm guessing a Heal check wouldn't really work here, so is there another skill check or spell/power he could use to diagnose her? If such is even necessary

It's purely psychic damage. Not sure if he has any way of healing that. It will heal on its own given time.

"Well, I'm alive. I'm still here. I'm a demon, but I don't have to be evil unless I want to be. So that's something," she said, struggling into a sitting position and leaning against him. "And you came to help me when I called. That matters. More than I can tell you. I love you, you know. But I still need to kick you out of my head for a little bit. I'm done with the fighting part, but not the transforming part I think. And I need to do that bit alone."

Would the psionic power Heal Injuries work? Its normally regular damage, but since its A) A psionic power, 2) We're literally in a mental plane and C) this is rules light, I'm hoping it will do the trick. If so, Ace will manifest in on Ginni. Either way

::"Course I came. I'll always be there for you. Perhaps not at the exact right moment, but when you need me, I'll be there. As for being a demon, whatever. You aren't evil. That's what counts. And I love you too.":: He kisses her softly, ::"I'm going to get dinner. I don't know much about demonic transformations, but it sounds like hungry work":: He says with a chuckle, before vanishing from her mindscape.

I don't see why not. So yes, he is able to use his psionic power to heal the psychic trauma Ginni is suffering from.

Inside the isolation room, Ginni arches up as her wings push their way out of her back to their full size. She whimpers as her body is twisting and changing into its full demon form, but she has yet to regain consciousness.

"I think that kind of depends on how things are in there. Last I knew, Ginni was still fighting for her life, Phaezeriel had gotten all freaky and red-eyed and sent me to get Vai, and then I ended up locked out of the room. Since you were unconscious I thought that maybe you found some way to help. Or you just passed out from exhaustion. Either of these are plausible. But I'll feel a lot better when I know for sure if Ginni is okay," she said, biting her lip as she looked at the door for the hundredth time in the last minute, as if willing it to open.

Stretching and standing up, he offers her a hand "Ginni is going to be fine, I think. She came to the realization that its OK for her to be a demon, or at least partially one, and that being such doesn't make her evil. At least, not automatically. She's going through some sort of transformation I believe." He then gives her a friendly hug "Thanks for being here for her, and me. I appreciate it, and I'm sure Ginni does too. I'm going to get us some dinner, wanna join me?"

Tamina shook her head. "No, I'm going to wait here. I want to see for myself that she's okay. Phaezeriel too. He really didn't look so good."

"He summoned an army of himself within Ginni's mind. Not gonna lie, it was pretty scary, and kinda intense there for a few moments. Glad I didn't need to fight him. I honestly have no idea what's going on, but I get the feeling Vai, and perhaps even Ginni might be able to help him." He turns to go, then stops and ask "Do you want me to get you anything to eat?"

"Ummm...okay. I...uhhh...I was in the nursery just now. The eggs have been singing. Well, I mean, obviously not real singing. They can't sing. They're eggs. But they replay all the songs we've played for them in their minds and sort of share them around among each other. They were singing one that you taught them last week. It...to be honest it was a really, really annoying song and their parents are probably not going to thank you for that one, but the babies really love it," Vai babbled on about the very first details that came to mind. Nothing like being commanded to talk to someone to make your mind go totally and completely blank.

Autohypnosis: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (14) + 24 = 38.

At the reminder of the dragon eggs, Phaezeriel's eyes flare a brighter red. But the sound of Vai's voice, and the memories her words evoke go to great lengths to calm his mind. As she talks, he seems to bring more of his inner self under control. Some of the red leeches out of his eyes, silver flowing in to replace it, and his breathing slows though it remains labored.

His body, on the other hand, continues to pulsate, stretch, and deform. His arms, legs, and wings deflate like empty balloons. The skin over the rest of his body continues to writhe and swell, and it stretches to nearly seven feet in length.

Phaezeriel is able to communicate a few times, and Vai learns that the Demon side of Ginni roused his Demonic impulses until they were the only thing driving him. She also learns that Demon-Ginni also triggered another physical change. Shortly after that, the swelling of his body absorbs his head and the skin hardens into a thick chitinous membrane, and all communication from him ceases.

"No, that's alright. As soon as I know for sure that Ginni is okay, I should go check on Dom. I've been neglecting him a bit this week. Well, it's kind of mutual. Conversation hasn't been what you'd call fun. Hey, honey, have they managed to find your sister is whatever dimension they misplaced her in yet? No. Well, my best friend is still unconscious and they haven't caught the murderer yet. And then we both sit around feeling like crap. Very romantic," she said with a what-can-you-do shrug.

Fei is able to pin Lady del Sol, although she remains conscious.

Jiminy doesn't like their chances if he tries anything magical in here right now, so he pulls out a strange pistol-like weapon and fires a glob of goo at Fiilah.
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
When the first glob of goo fails to connect he tries again.
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (15) + 22 = 37
This one connects, and the goo rapidly expands on contact, completely covering Fiilah and locking her in place.

Fei moves to put some distance between himself and Lady del Sol and her guardian (who then gets restrained by James' 'goo gun'). In doing so, however, he does move a bit more into Lord del Sol's field of view.

Grapple check utilizing greater grapple to both move and maintain his pin/apply nonlethal damage (for an eventual knockout): 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (5) + 38 = 43

Autohypnosis check:
1d20 + 47 ⇒ (4) + 47 = 51

Damage: 2d8 + 30 + 30 ⇒ (3, 6) + 30 + 30 = 69 nonlethal
