The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

She shrugged. "Pretty much when dealing with a Champion, you can count on their being some level of mental tampering, but it's usually quite low key. Hiding information, encouraging certain ways of thinking, that sort of thing. It's not like we can't defy them. Happens all the time. But we're never exactly free of them either," she said as they stepped out into the hall and started walking. "It's all part of the deal. No such thing as power for free."

There were some snickers from the boys which were silenced by another glare from Elektra. "So, if we're all done with the questioning each otther's loyalties and the reminders that we're all coming from different cultural backgrounds with different sets of expectations, can we get on with actually learning how to fly these things?" she said, obviously eager to get started.

She sighed. It was one of those days. "It isn't exactly a difficult question," she said crossly.

From down the hall, Kezzin can hear Asha's voice. "Yeah, yeah. I got it the first five times. Only practice landing inside the SIM rooms so I won't sustain real injuries."

"You are not taking this seriouzzly enough, young lady!" another voice scolded her. "A shattered arm, punctured lung, and ruptured kidney is not zzzomething to take lightly."

Asha rolled her eyes. "Before I came here, that list would have meant it was one of the good days. Seriously, just actually read my chart, okay? Besides, I'm fine now. So no big." She stopped when she saw Kezzin talking to the nurse, a very frazzled looking mantis creature trailing her. "Oh, hey Kezzin," she said cheerfully. "Did you get confused about where we were supposed to meet?"

He looks a bit uncertain, then glances back out the door. When he turns back to Asha, he is more sure of himself, "Not exactly. You just seemed really hurt, so I wanted to come and make sure you were okay. Sorry if I intruded."
"Oh," she said blinking. She still wasn't used to this idea of someone being concerned about her well being. She had just about come to terms with people being worried or feeling guilt for accidentally hurting her, but just being concerned about her was...new...and rather odd. "Well, I'm okay now. You're not intruding or anything. I just didn't think you'd mind about me being hurt. I mean, not like you wanted me to be hurt or anything...." She sighed. "Everything I say is coming out wrong now. I'm just not used to people caring about my well being. Nobody ever thought it was that important before I came here."

The young monk turns at the sound of the muffled laughter, and just in time to see the verbal rebuke by Elektra.

"A valid question. And I apologize if I gave any offense, as I get the feeling I may have just inadvertently done so," he replies to Elektra with a deep bow.

Looking back over to Mithros, he asks "Perhaps you could show us to simulators you mentioned, Mithros? It sounds like we will be spending much of our training time there, so it would be best if we know where to go." (^-^)

It occurs to me that these three have possibly seen Fei before when he was assisting at the refugee camp. But it was a large gathering.

Liberty's Edge

Male Crossblooded(Boreal/ Elemental) Sorcerer/Artic Ley Druid 9

Pyry grumbles as he poofs into the infirmary for yet another incident involving getting burned. It was one of the rare times he'd been in the gym this time, the result of a impromptu duel with an older -and rather elitist- firebird. He'd handled himself well enough, but... well, it was different fighting than it was chasing off giant mountain fire bugs.

Male Lycan, Desert Coyote

"What's going on?" Merikh groans as he takes a seat in his room. His head was pounding and he didn't know why. Nothing seemed to work either. Needing a distraction, he began looking for the "SIM rooms" he'd heard about. Maybe some busy hobby work would ease his headache like it did back home.

"No free lunch, yep." He walks along with the pair with the occasional glance around the hallways as he walks.

Abruptly after a few more steps, he asks, "Does this planet have any movie theaters?" He shakes his head after asking. "Stray thought, don't mind me."

Sorry, this one slipped by me.

Kezzin stares at Asha in disbelief for a moment before turning to head for the cafeteria once more, "That sounds like a lonely way to grow up. Be assured, there are people who care about others being hurt. I do not like to see anyone hurt, physically or emotionally." He cocks his head to one side just a bit then continues after a brief pause, "The funny thing is, in order to keep people safe, it is sometimes necessary to hurt others. It is an intensely annoying fact." With a shake of his head and a short roll of his shoulders, he dismisses the whole idea.

"So you mentioned eating some types of food I have never encountered as food before. And you turned into a breathtakingly beautiful bird earlier. Anything else I should know about you? Like things that could hurt you without me meaning to?"

Kezzin stares for a moment at the clinical and offhanded way that Asha describes the attempted murder of an infant. Unable to find the words to respond he simply shakes his head slightly. After a moment he gives a small shake of his wings, settling them against his back, "So, don't give you foods that are bad and keep you warm. I can do that." Asha looks confused at his embarrassment. "If you said something wrong, I didn't notice it," she said, hoping to clear things up. "But I don't know much about what people do and don't consider culturally appropriate, so I make those kind of mistakes a lot. Learning how not to offend people is even harder than learning arithmetic," she said, making a face. "Come on, let's just go get some food now. I used a lot of power almost going through that tree, so now I'm absolutely starving," she finished cheerfully.

Not quite focusing, Tryko'Sam's gazing inward, probably, but stiffens at the voice. He doesn't go combat tense, but .. there's that.

After a rough intake, he does seem to calm. "-- I .. am, too raw. Need time." He opens his eyes for a second and closes them again, some build up of moisture slips down the cheek.

After a few more breaths, he gives Andromeda a nod or two, "I'm good. The mental always -- I vaguely recall, takes time. Thank you. I'll talk to Maya, she can help some more." He seems to be breathing better now. "Anyhow-- helping Mel, that's good focus. We should keep going." He motions ahead, but doesn't appear apologetic for his prior state.

Off to the side, for the perceptive, a trio of students seem to speak to themselves after a few snickers, pats on the back as if they realize something in union, then head off quick-- not exactly ninja material here.

A flick of his rapier in his left hand throws a guard off balance, sending him tumbling to the ground. When the guard tries to stand, Aron's twitching smile is there to greet him, hand closing around his neck, before the rapier in his left hand is raised, slowly, giving the guard a full second to realize what's about to happen, before the blade is plunged deep into his chest, before being pulled out violently, soaking adon in blood, before he turns, laughing, to the rest of the guards.

"Well, there's a tough question. Er....about three years common timeline....I think? I completed one full term here and then at the end of summer break was when I went time traveling. So that was basically no time for everyone else but three years for me...except of course none of that happened physically speaking. I'm still the same as I would have been a year ago. I came back here as a ghost for part of last year while my sister was getting her s$~& together. Mental trauma. Pretty nasty. And then I spent the rest of the year being properly dead for a change before being summarily resurrected a few days ago. My life is complicated."

"But to answer your actual question, yes it does take a lot of magic and tech to make this place run efficiently. Uncle Ryo often hires on former students after they graduate. There's pretty high staff turnover after all. It's not what you'd call a low stress job. Er, Uncle Ryo is the Headmaster. He's my mom's brother. Adopted, so no, he's not a dragon. He founded this school. Not really that long ago actually, and it just keeps expanding as fast as can be managed. Well, just a little faster than can actually be managed, really. But close enough." ^.^

But, hear me well: this task we are set upon is the defense of an entire world's people from an enemy currently lead by a maniac without morals nor without resource, who's empire spans countless worlds, who would freeze all of us dead without any hesitation. Every. Single. One of us.

While I'm probably the last one under the sun who should be the hardass here, I will expect while we are here, and on duty, the shenanigans will be kept to zero. Understood?"

Both Alev and Etain started to step forward and were summarily shoved back by Elektra, who stepped forward, turning to face Mithros.

"No. Sir." she added with maximum snark. "I get that you have more experience with these machines than we do, and I respect your expertise, but there are some things you clearly don't understand. We have spent the better part of our lives on the front lines. In the service of depraved, evil maniacs, I might add, although we didn't realize at first. That's how it happens a lot, I'm guessing. Pretty sure he wouldn't be here, otherwise," she said, nodding towards Ghalen. "We will follow orders, and we won't slack off. But don't you dare expect us to be serious all the time. War is serious enough. If you don't give your brain a break sometimes, you will break. So, yeah, we make some smart ass comments sometimes. But wait to see what we actually do before you go judging us. Isn't that the whole point of starting on simulators? So we don't break anything important if we're not suited to being pilots after all?"

adon seems... Distracted. His eyes are distant, and his stare slightly vacant. Every so often, there's a small, quick twitch of the head or of the hand, as he stares ahead, waiting for the exersize to start. After a few moments, he cracks an eager smile, and requests that the sim room give him a rapier.

"Apologies to Sir allone. While your weapon is nice, and all, I still much prefer my rapier."
once he gets his rapier, he puts it in his left hand, and smiles wider.
"Is this ready? Do we go now?"
"Yep. FIrst one to secure the throne room wins," Sadie said with a fierce grin before heading into the simulation once the starting chime sounded. She tumbled around foes, her rapier moving swiftly as she deflected their blows with a small, portable forcefield.

Aron darts in after her, but soon falls behind- in fact, he doesn't seem to be avoiding the guards at all.

"Next."

Sadie shuddered as she saw the scene from the top of the wall she had just climbed. And she thought she'd been having a bad day.

"Hey, Adon, forgetting something? Or are you gonna just let me win by default?" she taunted, hoping to snap him out of his maniacal state.

Looks cooly at Elektra.

"First off, unless someone says otherwise, you don't have to call me sir anymore. Second, I understand you all have formal military experience, and trust me, I understand how bad some of the former nobles on the sun were, having been one of them. Thirdly, as I said camaraderie is fine, but there is a time, and a place for rough housing and acting like you can't hold still for 10 minutes unless your mother squaks at you. This is not that place. Now is not that time. A bit of decorum won't kill you.
But as I said, I'm not technically in charge of you, so consider it nothing more than a request from one of your trainers and possible wingmen. Now, if you would like, I want to run you all through start up of the simpods, and familiarize you with the controls. We can go over hardcopy manuals later."

adon looks up at Sadie, and narrows his eyes a moment, impaling an enraged guard offhandedly, leading into him kicking said guard off the sword as he yanks it out. He takes a quick moment, then nods a little, before darting right at the sealed entrance to the throne room. He skids to a halt in front of the guards, shifts his rapier to both hands, and shoves the sword through his own gut, twitching and chucking with soft, raspy breaths. A foggy, dark aura surrounds the blade, and the guard's weapons seem to just bounce off adon harmlessly.

Andromeda grinned. "You know what? It is actually pretty amazing. I love getting a chance to really stretch my wings. I haven't done that in way too long. Pretty sure the SIM rooms can manage somewhere to do that if they're like I've heard them described. I'm too small to give rides or anything like that, but I bet we could get you a rocket pack or a hang glider or something if you wanted to come flying with me some time.. Speaking of SIM rooms, we appear to be here....good grief, there are a lot of rooms! Which one are we going to?"

Lol. No worries. Even if he were being suave, pretty sure it would be wasted on Miss Oblivious here. :P

"Well, we can swim in salt water in the SIM rooms if we want," she said agreeably. "But I don't like the SIM rooms. My weather magic doesn't work well in there because none of it is real and there's almost no actual moisture in the air. It's just simulated moisture. Blech. Seriously, that place is like a desert. I totally prefer using the actual pool," she said, starting to focus on calling up a mostly gentle wind, waving her arm back and forth over the pool to get the waves started.

Walking along as a means to guide Andromeda, Tryko'Sam motions towards the SIM Mel room when they arrive in the halls with the doors. "That sucker there. I'll tell you what, babe, soon as you finish up with this situation -- unless you need me for more, I kind of figured I, eh, actually..." For a moment there, he sounded as if he was going to part ways, but he opens the door.

"You want a good SIM, you talk to me. I have the chops to whip something specific up-- and there's only the limit of imagination, as far as I can tell." He motions her inside, through the now open door. "Plus I'd love to check out someone turning into a dragon that *is* a dragon. Not sure I've actually met a real dragon yet."

He'll keep the door open for whoever else might have come with, then slip in after her and peek around once inside. A slight facial tick happens for an instant, but he seems to shut that down fast.

He wasn't being sent to the infirmary. Must be the SIM room safety. The damage wasn't real. She backed away a few steps. "Are you alright?" she called out, totally confused by his show of self-destructive behavior.

Once Jaiye showed up for her shift watching over Cho, Jeran took off. He'd been authorized to take a hoverbike out in order to get back and forth more quickly, and he had to admit he enjoyed getting to experience the new vehicle. It was light and fast and easy to crash, but where would be the fun of it if it weren't? He arrived late to the training session and walked over to Mithros. "Hey. How's it going so far?"
