The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

"Bradley are you alright?" Rena asks worriedly. She couldn't exactly lift him out of the pile without using her teeth, and she knew from earlier that Bradley was afraid of things with big teeth. Instead she was trying to gently move him out of the compost pile with her snout. "How can I help?" she asks, panic beginning to creep into her words.

"T-t-t-teeth!" he stammered, his brain trying to catch up, but his eyes rather caught up in the sight right before him.

".....Rena? What? How?.....Ungh," he grunts in pain as she tries to nudge him out of the compost heap. "No, don't.....think I might have broken a rib or three....just don't let them take me back to the infirmary. No more. I can't take any more. Too much pain there....I think it might kill me to go back," he said, his vision starting to blur. He wasn't even sure if the big snake with Rena's voice was real. He wouldn't be shocked if he was having hallucinations as a side effect of one of Dr Wuxn's 'treatments'. On that cheerful note, Bradley passed out.

"So, Asha, can you remember your mental state when you did your ghosting trick? Sounds to me you subconsciously picked up a defensive ability after all those years of abuse in your tower with the servants and staff. If, I've found, you can call up the mental muscles to repeat the action, you could manage to ghost out on purpose. I knew a fellow who could alter his density, seems as if you could be doing similar, or a variant of such."

"It seems to happen when I'm scared or startled. And I'm so hungry after....I didn't get a lot of food at home. We talked about it over dinner, and that might be why I never had this power before...my body might not have had enough energy to do it before. It's just a guess, though. I don't know for sure."

Aside from answering his question, Asha was content to listen to Tryko'Sam and Tybalt talk about clothes, SIM rooms, birthday parties, and the cute angel guy that Tybalt had a crush on. There was a lot she didn't understand about what they were talking about, but she was trying to just listen and learn that way. She spent enough time looking like an idiot as it was.

Aananda hit a button on her headband. "Professor Nix, this is Professor Sunwake. I need a dedicated demi-plane right now to contain a deadly virus in town. I thought of you first thing."

The reply is immediate, <<Professor, I can create what you need, but it usually takes nearly a week to do. Is there any way you can alter the flow of time in a local area on the Astral Plane?>>

"Damn. I thought since you're the psionics professor you might have one....maybe one of the arcane magic professors might have one? Do you know of any staff or students who might? We need something now...and I can't do anything about time. Ephebe could, but the security system registered her departure from the school a little while ago. Something about a field trip."

Isolating any one factor is impossible. It's integrated fully into the patient's organs...I'm not sure that she can be cured at all. It's possible that trying to remove the virus might kill her. I'm going to work on a way to render it inert, or at least non-infectious....I don't know that it's even possible, but I'm not really sure what else I can try."

His voice is somewhat chagrined when it comes back over the communicator, <<I, uh, made a mistake with it, several actually, and it became unstable. I had to destroy it when it tried to eat me; long story.>> There is a pause, then his voice takes on a hesitant note, which is utterly unlike Nix as far as you have ever known him, <<I do know of one other demi-plane. As Nala continues her analysis of the viral structure, she discovers that the virus is not solely powered by biological processes; it seems to be using arcane energy to accelerate its mutation rate and its high degree of communicability. She also discovers a portion of its DNA structure that is static and is linked to this ability to metabolize arcane energy.

What biology/medecine related skills does Nala have?

Max ranks in Heal, Profession(nurse), Craft(alchemy)(specifically focused on crafting medicine not other alchemical stuff), Knowledge(nature and religion) and every healing hex and spell a witch has access to. Basically she's an advanced med student. This is what she really threw herself into after she stopped being a thrallherd.

He jumps down from the ceiling and lands on his feet, one hand touching the ground and the other out to the side.
He then disappears from his ears down to the end of his tail.
A couple seconds after he's gone, (depending on how perceptive he is) Tryko'Sam may notice a slight twitch at the base of his ankle and at his collar.
From those two points his shirt and pants phase into being invisible.

Tryko'Sam grins as his clothing becomes mostly invisible, save for the boots he's got on, and some boxer briefs, black variety, stylish.

"Awesome-- if I wanted to go around partially naked, I know who to find for the help. Somehow I had a gut feeling I would be the subject of this presentation."

He grins broadly and strikes a dramatic pose, fists on hips, while sternly looking off.

Tryko'Sam is mostly thin and athletic, clearly healthy in all regards at first glance, no scars or other visible body modifications or injuries. His natural skin tone is darker than normal, lending him a 'tanned' look. He certainly doesn't need to get out into the sun.

After the pose he looks back at Asha and says, "Clothing really is over rated in some places, you know?"

He keeps the pose for the most part, while waiting for the demonstration to end.

Tybalt and his outerwear begin to fade back in almost as soon as it becomes apparent that he isn't phased by it.

He jokingly sticks his tongue out at him.
"Clothes are optional where I'm from, fashion options, but we have fur. As far as I'm concerned, if you have to wear them, they might as well look good."
He shrugs.

Study of the interaction between arcane and biological processes leads Nala to suspect that a total disruption of the arcane metabolism will only slow its mutation and reduce its communicability. You think it is likely that you may also kill the subject if you subject her to an antimagic pulse.

However, the virus's mutations do not seem to target its outer structures, so an attempt to strengthen the viral capsid to make it more difficult for the virus to infect other cells would severely reduce its communicability. On the other hand stripping it of its capsid entirely would make it unable to survive in air.

Another avenue would be to attempt to modify the regions in the girl's bone marrow that produces the virus so that the virus loses its sentience, as well as tuning its arcane metabolism so that it requires the specific magical aura within the girl's body so that it would be unable to survive outside of her body.

Without going too much into the structure and function of viral cells, about which I know almost nothing.... The only way Nala can think of to make the virus be not dangerous without killing the girl is to somehow change the production centers so that it comes out safe.
