The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Nothing more, as far as I can tell.

But yeah, if anything starts to hurt real bad, I'll make sure to get it checked out.

Aw, geez, stay healthy, man.

The only time I've been in a car accident I was going 150 on a highway and almost fell asleep at the wheel cause it was 5am (I worked graveyards then). Jerked the wheel to stop from hitting a sidewall and ended up spinning out going 150. Was not fun. Really could've ended up dead.

I somehow ended up straightening out after barely clipping a wall.

Didn't end up sleeping that night was so hyped on adrenaline, but somehow managed to bang out the damage to the car with a rubber mallet.

So yeah, everyone's got a story. Don't feel bad, the important thing is that nobody was hurt. Things are replaceable, people aren't.

Reapling (scout form) rogue, black blooded oracle, gestalt lvl 16

I have had to dodge flying rebar on a freeway twice in my life. What are the chances of that? Luckily I didn't dodge into anybody.

Sorry for my continued silence. I haven't been feeling well. Just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't worry.

I to have been silent. but it is mostly work.

it has been a rather hot summer and I work for the electric company. just yesterday we lost over 1000 MW of power when a power plant tripped.

Hi, KC *waves*

Here's one of the new faces (^_^)

I'll be coming back later next week, y'all.

Shadow Lodge

Male. Vaguely humanoid Ninja 3/Bard 1/Ranger 2/Scholar 1

Dr Who season 8 went up on Netflix this weekend
Naturally I didn't sleep till I finished it,
Those last few episodes I was like "NO no no NO! Why! Just Why! NO come back! Awwwwww.... Ah! Stabbed in the heart...."

It's gonna be slightly ok. And then not ok again immediately after, but you'll probably learn to like him. He's old, but he gets more likable after about 4 episodes.

Shadow Lodge

Male. Vaguely humanoid Ninja 3/Bard 1/Ranger 2/Scholar 1

I did watch a whole season of him
I was referring to the last three episodes

Ooooh.

It'll be on the slightly less legal websites starting in September.

Before anyone says anything, NOBODY KNOWS what the effects of turning living matter into a bose-einstein condensate-like state would do, or how it would affect a living creature, so I took a few artistic liberties.

Basically, Fei turned Darth Vai's entire body into a superfluid.

Hey FCD, PM incoming...

Shadow Lodge

I live, though working these third shifts doesn't really make me feel like it.

In unrelated news, I haven't seen anything in Occult Adventures I'd want to see in Avalon, except the Monkey's Paw(so much evil potential~). Thoughts?

Once the kineticist is fixed and on PFSRD, I'm using it for a character. It fits better than bending with the sort of effortless style it has and lack of monk class features he would never use.

Provided it passes approval. Which is probable, but not definite as I haven't seen it at all. I do have issues with the name since there's already a kineticist in the psionics book, but that's more general frustration with unnecessary confusion than anything else. I'll give it a fair chance before I pass judgement. But I also have concerns with some of the newer paizo splat books not meshing well with existing game dynamics, (which is why we don't do mythic for example) so new stuff is subject to review. And I've already told you I'll work with you on this one and we can pick and choose stuff for you if the class doesn't work as a whole.

Shadow Lodge

Kinetecist is probably the best thing in the entire book, honestly. What do you mean by fixed? I sincerely doubt they'll make burn not the worst mechanic ever.

*waves hello*

Not dead yet! In spite of last week's flu from hell. Well, it wasn't really that bad. Just the perfect storm of bad luck with how my health problems were interacting with each other and how sickness can mess up certain medications. Like the ones that regulate my blood sugar and treat my depression. You know, the important things.

And this week I should be hanging out at home and recovering, especially since the apartment complex is repaving the parking lots so I have to park my car several blocks away......instead it has somehow turned into the week of involuntary errands. >.<

But it's not all bad. The kidlet has been really good and helpful this past week, which is why I rewarded him with an afternoon at the pool today. :)

Anyways, hoping to get back up to speed soon. Somehow. If only I didn't need to sleep....

I think he's referring to the fact that I wouldn't even look at the playtests version. We have a policy against using playtests in this game. Too much drama. :)

Male Weremonkey Rogue/Ranger/Trickster

While I haven't event kinda looked it over yet, there's a class about spirits that intrigues me from Occult Adventures, possibly for this game, maybe.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Is the occult adventures stuff on the pfsrd yet? If so I will gladly read over any classes folks want to have considered. I just want to make sure I like the stuff before I buy the book so I have to either read it online or wait for the comic store to get a copy in I can look through. bookshelf space is limited so I'm really picky about what I get a physical copy of.

Shadow Lodge

The Medium? It's class features revolve around being in the right area to use. But, hey, at least the Archmage spirit will be easy. :)

They are now.

Burn is awful, but easy to work around.

Ooh archetypes...

*wanders after the new shiny*

Nevermind. These archetypes aren't cool. :/

Very obvious now that they're trying to make bending into a class.

I know we have bending already, but this could just be considered a more natural style of it.

Shadow Lodge

Annihilator is kinda ok. :/

More like its primal. Still hate burn so much. >.<

Half of them are blatantly evil and the other half are just trying to make the class fit into a role other classes do better. -_-

I think the Mesmerist is one of my favourite class designs in a long time. Pure support role, lots of little tricks to do. Lovely.

Probably gonna play one next time I play.

Shadow Lodge

Mesmerism is pretty cool. It's got that "Playing MtG with a blue deck" feel to it.

Plus they can stare at people and make them bleed*. O.o

*if the take a feat.

Guess what completely devoured my summer.

At least it's apparently over now?

I was told he had stopped adding on.

I stopped part way through the Green Yard, so no spoilers in case I try to pick it back up again.

Thanks for the link. I'm gonna try and review all those over the weekend. Should have definite answers for folks by Monday. :)

So far so bad. Trying to keep an open mind here....really hating it so far. Like really hating it. To be fair, most of the archetypes are okay. Not great, but not objectionable. Couple are, and the sorcerer bloodlines are just no.

I'm gonna keep reading and try to see if there are things I'm comfortable including, but so far haven't found much to like. I keep having to remind myself that it's better to err on the side of inclusiveness. I'm having trouble convincing me so far. -.-

Male I am a meat Popsicle

What do you find so objectionable about the sorcerer bloodlines. They are kinda silly, but they don't seem so bad to ban them.

We can always pick up some stuff and leave off others like with the Arcanist. :)

The same problem I'm running into with a lot of this material. Conflict with already existing classes and story. Remember how much psionics we have in this game. (Hint: it's a lot.) Stuff that mimics psionics doesn't sit well with me as far as this game is concerned. Too much mess, too much work, too many crushed toes.

I'm not done with my review yet and I'm not yet making any binding pronouncements, but I am leaning against on several things so far.

I like kineticist as another alternative of bending. We already have two classes of it rolling, so I don't see why another would hurt. Of course, I'm not a good judge of power. Or weather. Or money. Or time. But anyways...

I think kineticist matches a lot of the stuff we do with bending as we have it already. You can injury yourself doing too much, you can mix styles, you pick certain abilities over others.

Really the only difference is you trade some of the cool potent abilities and frills of other classes for more reliability of your skills as you have them.

As far as I see, anyways. I haven't looked for difference from the playtest, though.

Shadow Lodge

And there's no immunity to that extra strain. Fatigue is easy to grab immunity to. Nothing stops burn except not taking it.

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

The naming conventions alone are killing me here. I can already see the endless moments of confusion ahead.... Which kineticist are we talking about here? Wait, did you mean the psionic power or the psychic spell? Because they do very different things....
*hits head on wall*

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, the lazy approach paizo took is baffling...

My faith in the company is sorely shaken from this and other horrid things.

I'd gladly call it Elementalist if it helps ease that.

The only other thing with the name Elementalist is an oracle archetype.

Maybe Manipulator?

I think psychic and psionic won't be too bad, as long as we just specify.

Wish I could disagree. :(

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

To be fair DSP is 3rd party.
This is official content, so...

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

I think a lot of it is underpowered, to be honest.
Medium and Spiritualist are cool concepts, but feel like the missed the
turn to awesome somewhere along the way...
Kineticist is very blasty and better themed for bending, imho. A unchained monk/kineticist is much better for mimicking the style and flavor of bending, imho.

Male Drow (noble) 14 Ranger

I have an NPC in a game now who is a mesmerist. It's like the Beguiler on crack. Amazing, really.

You've been out for about an hour in game time, Djalos.

Female Timelady Nerd 3/Geek 2/Whovian 13/Writer 2

Thanks :)

Female awww, but that would be telling unknown

Okay, so official verdict on Occult Adventures. I've read through all the material now and I gave myself time to think it over. I don't hate everything from this book. There are things that have some promise. But I don't actually like anything from this book either. And there are things that I think would be downright bad for this game. Psychic spells for instance. If it messes up the established canon, it's probably a terrible idea. So I'm generally placing the book off limits unless you get a special exception. If there's something from this book that you reallly, really want, let me know. I may be able to work with you. There are quite a few archetypes that are fine as is. And some classes may be modified either by story or by making tweaks to the class itself. (Psychic spells stay out of the game. Period. But I'll work with you to relace them with psionics if you have your heart set on playing a mesmerist for example. Or making alterations to the spell lists for an occultist, etc.) But a lot of it just doesn't fit in as is. And please have mercy on me by not all asking for things to be reviewed at once, thanks. :)

Magic, your kineticist has sufficient story justification to justify why they're different than a normal bender, so you have your approval.

Cool. Yay. Thank you.
:)

I'll put some more work towards him when I can. I've been really busy lately. -_-

Shadow Lodge

I think Lyn just created my favorite sentence.

Psychic spells stay out of the game. Period. But I'll work with you to relace them with psionics if you have your heart set on playing a mesmerist for example.
