Quickly everyone, remember that sticking your hands into summoning circles cannot ever go wrong in any way shape or form.... xD
Tell that to Davor, half-orc turned half-fiend inquisitor! Stupud chain devil being bound to his body messed everything up, had to live in a damn graveyard for years... At least it was Waterdeep.

Ahem.
Today is my birthday,
so it is time to sing!
(And hope I do not disappear with the help of a magic ring!)
I'm a really goofy frood,
and a super shiny nerd.
So let's not split the party now as we all join in the words!
I'm getting older,
live long and prosper,
when it counts, may I roll high!
Happy birthday to me, a nerd.
I'm a fracking awesome gal!
Everybody now!
She's getting older,
live long and prosper,
when it counts, may she roll high!
Happy birthday to Doomkitten, a nerd.
She's a fracking awesome gal!
So say we all!

Holy guacamole, do I have a lot to catch up on. And only like ten minutes before I have to leave the house....and then maybe some more time before kidlet gets home from school. I thought I would have time this morning, but it turned out that I really needed that time to recover from way too much social interaction this week and even talking to people over the internet was just too much for me. Even though it's for good stuff, the February rush (my birthday, my husband's birthday, valentine's day....all in a two week period of time....aaargh) can get to me and with snow days added in there, there just hasn't been much alone time. #IntrovertProblems #ADHDproblems
So now I see if a morning of quiet is enough to let me get back to a spot where I can actually focus for five minutes put together. It's weeks like these that make me sorely miss caffeine. The ability to have a few minutes of mental calm is almost worth the vertigo so bad it's hard to manage basic life functions. Almost. Not quite. I do have to be able to drive places and cook food and stuff. Darn it.

I like the form of debate that was embodied in the last webcomic I read.
Player 1: *Logical Argument*
Player 2: "Ah... I see your point..." *Stab*
Player 3: "You never were very good on the debate team..."
Player 2: "But I never lost"
Player 3: "By Default... isn't winning, its being the only option..."
Player 2: "Well... when you put it like that, Quid pro Quo...." *Stab*
Player 4: "Quid pro Quo actually means..."
I will give 200 points to anyone who can tell me what happened to player 4 in the next panel...

That means that there's a full man and woman between us, Lyn. :P
Maybe we should trade. XD
You take my girly mannerisms and I'll get your manlyness. XD
lol. I think I'll stay as I am thanks. Even if people do say I'm intimidating. :P
(Seriously? Intimidating? I'm a geeky, shy introvert...There is something seriously wrong with their definition of intimidating. But I'm pretty sure that quickly diverges into a discussion about feminism and cultural gender roles that would derail the thread for quite a while.)Death_Keeper |

Well from our perspective you are you know... our benevolent and all powerful Dungeon Master who at a mere stroke of the keys turn us all into sad puppets... so when I joined I was quite intimidated by you...
Then I got over it... xD

Reading through back posts as fast as I can manage it. Apologies if I'm bringing up stuff that's already been resolved, but I just have to take the opportunity to get my two cents in. :)
Re: the Logical Weaknesses discussion:
Magic has the right idea of how the Champion powers work. I think the issue here is that you're looking for the logical weakness in the wrong place. You want it to be part of the powers. But that's not how it works with Champions. Considering we've had two Champions suicide to get out of their contracts within the last couple of in-game days there is definitely something going on here. Being a Champion is not all roses and sunshine. Sometimes phenomenal cosmic power isn't worth the catch. But the catch isn't the powers. The catch is who you work for/ who you are/ how your powers affect the people around you. Ephebe's Patron has put her through hell (literally, that's where she picked up the aschen...technically she still has real estate there) and continues to make her life miserable to the point where she sometimes questions whether all this grief is even worth it. But she stays because of the influence it lets her have over her Patron (and the fact that she has more influence than some others is a plot point, btw, I don't put this stuff in by accident). Meanwhile some other Patrons appear totally benign....for now. But every Champion who has been around to see what's happened to Hope and Light is now living in dread wondering when it's going to be their turn for the crazy, waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. None of the Champions are all powerful. They're all mortal and quite beatable, though primarily by other Champions thanks to the teleport thing. So the thing is to exploit the logical weaknesses of both their job and their mortality, personality, etc. And of course the complex web of alliances and oppositions among the Patrons. That factors in too. Almost all of them have an equal but opposite of some fashion or another. (Three guesses who the odd man out is and the first two don't count. :P)
lynora |
Time seems the odd one out in not having an opposite
(Though I've not heard of an opposite for pride, it's a lesser patron by comparison)
Yeppers. Now think about why Time is the odd one out and you have a clue to the upcoming plot. :)
Oh, and Love is the acting opposite for Pride. Here is the breakdown:Light ...............Darkness
Death...............Life
Creation...........Destruction
Deception.........Knowledge
Mercy................Wrath
Hope.................Faith
Luck..................Fate
Dreams ............Madness
Love..................Pride
Fear .................Courage
Freedom ..........Justice
Time ..................______

Dreams and madness can easily coexist.
Fear, dreams and madness makes nightmares.

Also kinda glad my opposite isn't in game currently...
Lord Foul II |
Huh. Weird
I figure if you love someone you are also proud of their accomplishments, but whatever.
Hmm opposite of time.... Eternity? No, probably not..
Space maybe? That could work as an equal/opposite, kinda weird though..
So space or whoever Time's balance was, was killed and/or sealed like balance was killed?
Wait does that mean balance had an opposite?
Or was/is time the opposite of balance...

Hey, Sis! Guess what I found?

Not by as much as I might wish.... my class resembles that already.....

Opposites aren't always mortal enemies. Sometimes they are. Sometimes they have a cordial working relationship. This can often change without prior notice. Especially since the death of Balance the Patrons tend to swing to the extremes.

Also kinda glad my opposite isn't in game currently...
Not at present, no. Keme would be good for it, but after what Hope put him through, I doubt he'd willingly accept another offer to be a Champion. So it's still open. As is Freedom.

Hey! Destiny got left out!
<begins plotting with Destiny to take everybody else down. After all, the Destiny of all is to eventually die.>
::Calls up the Four Horsemen:: "Hey guys, I think we might wanna talk about working together. We've been snubbed by the powers that be, so why not show them whose boss, by ending all of creation"
lynora |
There is no anti-time.
The only thing that could possibly be opposite to time is non-existence, or The Void.
Nope, that's totally not the direction I'm going with this. Even in the Void there is time after a fashion.
Remember, an opposite doesn't have to be anti-time. It just has to be opposed to time. And time requires change. Without change, without a dynamic system, time gets stuck and sort of fades away.lynora |

You're on the list as Fate. Overreact much? :P
I found that people tended to understand better when I described Destiny as Fate and just changed the entry on the grounds that I don't want to keep having the same discussion over and over every time someone new started looking at it.
