sure you can! Just need a level in witch.
But seriously, get well, take as long as you need.

Glad you're feeling better again, Lyn. ^_^
On another note, I've been really happy with my writing lately. I'm so glad the game is finally back on track.
Well, I agree that your writing has been really good lately. So much detail! I've had to step up my game! :)

Blergh. Why did I think writing out the firebird stuff would be a good idea again? So much writer's block with these scenes. ; ;
Edit: Also I may need to maybe take a break from the manga for a while...I seem to be accidentally parroting the syntax. *hits head on wall*

The enchantment bows apply to arrows are a "temporary buff" thst doesn't bypass dr.
They're calling if a clarification, too, as if that's how it always worked.

Well, that's dumb. It's all or none. Once you start making special cases the whole thing falls apart because some weapons are more equal than others sort of thing.
Mind you, I was never particularly on board with the whole x amount of magic bonus overcomes DR as if x thing rule in the first place and have blithely ignored it from the get-go. Which works just fine because it's the same rule for everyone. All works. None works. In between just doesn't work.icehawk333 |

Same goes for crossbows and the like, but it's basically just a heavy handed nerf to bows for being the best.
Now it requires that you enchant arrows manually, as an arrow enchanted with +3 bypasses like a +3 weapon, but not a non-magical arrow fired from a +3 bow.
But arrows are, you know, expendable.
Also, so noted about the enchantment bouns.
Not bothering with enchantments higher then +1 here in the future, as without the DR bypass, a +1 to hit and damage is just plain worse then quite a few other options.
... Also every melee build will have something like pummeling style or clustered shots.
lynora |
If it helps they say the same thing for the magic weapon series of spells
Doesn't surprise me. Bloody useless spells. :P
(Not entirely. Especially not in this game where magic items are rare. But very, very useless in the in-person game I play in. It's kind of a running joke there.)lynora |

Well, most DR can be overcome with special materials. Which has always put archers at a bit of an advantage since it's easier to carry arrows for all occasions than swords for all occasions. But yeah, the expense does add up over time. Like the feat tax wasn't bad enough, there's an equipment tax too! *glares at the bloody useless Point Blank Shot* (Bit of a sore point as I usually play ranged characters and therefore don't get to actually choose a feat that I actually want until 5th level. Ever. Because the group has a fit if I don't take Precise Shot. Geez. You accidentally hit a party member ONE time....)
But yeah, back to this game, if you're having your magic item be a weapon, definitely the special qualities are more valuable overall. Heck, that's how I tend to view it in general anyways. I'd rather have something that can do stuff that's cool than just a straight up unexciting bonus. :)icehawk333 |
There is one ranged weapon that still bypasses this whole debacle, and one I hope sees more use- the rope dart.
The single best, and oft overlooked, thrown weapon in the game.
.. Also archers have so many feat taxes due to being the single most powerful martial attacking style in the game.
But instead of nerfing that, maybe they should nerf simulacrum, or emergency force shield, or contengnecy, or teleports that get you out of situations with no consequesnes.
icehawk333 |
Benefit: Similar to a meteor hammer, a rope dart can be whirled at great speeds, then aimed to strike and pierce opponents with great reach. Once it strikes, the wielder can quickly retrieve the weapon with a tug of the rope.
That's why the rope dart the best.
It has a 20 foot thrown range (same as a Starknife)
1d4 damage (same as a Starknife)
The abilty to return and be thrown multiple times in a round (same as a sharding weapon, normally a +3 enchantment, but with double the range)
The monk quailty (Astatic style anyone?)
The blocking quality (crane style works too)
And the distracting quailty (and it can be used for feints)
All for one feat.
icehawk333 |
All weapons can be used to disarm or used to trip.
Having the trip quailty means you can drop the weapon instead of gettig tripped if you fail by 5 or more. That's it.
The double chain kama does have an adjustable reach, but it's outclassed by the meteor hammer in almost all situations- it does more damage, and when being used as a reach weapon, gives a +1 shield bouns to ac.
The double kama is somewhat disarm resistant, as a plus, and one kama can be used as a one handed weapon, so it can be useful for some niche majus charecters.
Monkeygod |
Kensai Magus/Weapon Master or Weapon Adept using the double chain kama is pretty badass.
The disarm quality gives you a +2 bonus for that check.
Not all weapons can be used to trip. You can't, for example, trip with a dagger or longsword. You need some sort of reach, or dangling, rope-like quality.
Meteor Hammer is badass, but I would much rather the slashing damage, option to use it one handed double chain kama. That AC bonus is nice, though.
icehawk333 |
Hm. Trip does seem to be that way.
James jacobs went and said only trip weapons can be used to trip.
Ah well, it was a rather bad menuver anyway.
It barely even works, because everyone flies late game.
A pity that flight negates so much of the actual game.

Was that snippet about chaos among the guards at the festival for Fei's nanites, or does everyone notice this?
It was for Fei's nanites (as this isn't near the pavilion), but Fei will be sharing that momentarily...in game anyway. Dalesman needs to get some shuteye first ;P
Does Ghalen still have his comm gear on him?

Al's talk about how Ryleh trained him is both funny and kinda sad cause that was basically the last time that she spent with Sheesouroussen and he was why they were using fish to train since he could summon them for her. She's so sad now, I feel bad for her.
But I suppose she's had long enough to have a really good cry and all, which nobody will ever find out about. So she is available for whenever the dragon dudes are ready to show up. :)

Wait a sec, Ace has been callin Raelle Rae pretty much since day 1. I thought Elle was the nickname she hated? Does she dislike them both?
There was a whole discussion about this before, but you probably missed it then. Raelle hates to be called Rae. It's weird and doesn't even sound like her name (which is pronounced Rah-elle, emphasis on the first syllable), and is basically a cutesy name that has been used to make fun of her in the past. You'll notice that none of her group of close friends ever call her Rae. Jiminy calls her Elle, which she finds slightly annoying but at least accepts as an understandable derivative of her name. But really she prefers not to be called by nicknames at all. She kinda rolls her eyes every time Ace calls her Rae.
