"Oooph! Yes, father! I know I should have kept the shield up, but you said to put it down quickly, so I needed my other hand! No, I am not trying to tell you how to fight a dragon, but... oh forget it. Can't you see I am in the middle of something here?"
As a swift action, Stephani uses her laying on of hands ability to reduce her wounds.

Starling the Swift |
Starling hurries down the narrow tunnel, rushing towards the sounds of combat and trying to flank the dragon by walking around one of the natural pillars in the cave.
Double move.
GM Glyn |
With a touch Stephani calls upon the power of her god for healing. As her wounds heal, the Human paladin strikes true with her sword cutting the rotting beast once again. It's taken a lot of damage to it undead corpse, but it is still up and threading.
Starling quickly moves into the room trying to flank the dragon.

Dusklord |
Dusklord emerges from the elevator shaft and moves toward the sound of combat. When he sees what the group is fighting, he looks on in wonder.
"An undead dragon!" he exclaims. "I have heard of such things, but truly there is no end to the wonders of this place!"
He calls upon his necromatic training to see if he can exert control over it.
Power over Undead, will use a channel energy to exert control over it. It gets a DC 16 Will save. I can control up to 8 HD)
GM Glyn |
Dusklord attempts to exert control over the undead dragon, but it too strong of a creature to bend to his will.
Hissing at Dusklord, Illvaster mindlessly continues to attack Lyrio and Stephani. It takes a bite out of Lyrio and slams Stephani, but the tail slap miss

He is very hurt, but still finds heart to yell to Radagosa.
My girl, if I fall, assume my place and smash this undead abomination back to the hole it should never have left!
Dusklord |
Dusklord looks at the creature with wonder.
"An amazing specimen! It will be a shame to destroy it before we can study it more. This gives me great hope for increasing my powers, but for now this is more than I can handle."
The wizard points at the enemy and finishes a spell to gain some measure of control over it, but not what he had hoped.
Casting Boneshaker, if it's mindless it gets no save. If it is not mindless, DC 19 Fort. I would like it to move away up to its speed toward the gnome. It provokes AoO.
GM Glyn |
A gremlin ate my post.
The undead dragon is overcome by the many cuts and slashes dealt to it by Stephani and Lyrio, it collapses in a heap of rotting flesh and broken bones.
The gnome shakes his head, "I had hoped for a better outcome. Still I see you are powerful adventures, if you free me I can grant you a wish. No many are give such a chance."
Dusklord you don't have to expend the spell.
Starling the Swift |
Starling snorts. "Not many try to kill us and remain alive. You'll have to do better than that if you don't want to stay here for another three hundred years. I'm sure it's quite boring."
Dusklord |
Dusklord looks with sorrow at the bones of the dragon, then walks over to the gnome.
"Please explain what you are doing here. The powerful wizards who built this place would not have trifled with you if you did not have substantial power. Perhaps if I like your story, we might deal with you," he says.
GM Glyn |
The gnome "I don't want you dead, I just want to be free from the prison the Thrallkeepers have put me in. It is true they forced me to use my power for their ends. It was they who forced me to summon the black dragon Illvaster bound to their service. Although Illvaster died even in death it was still bound and arose as the creature you fought. After the Thrallkeepers were no more, it reverted to my command. I though you would seek to harm me, or my sister."
Taking a moment after Stephani's question before continuing, "You see we were three adventures, the others were a man named Johanis and my adopted sister. The Thrallkeepers captured us centuries ago, imprisoning me in this circle and Sulianna in the other, though I haven't heard from her in a long time I can only hope she is still alive. During the attack, Johanis escaped and swore that he would mount a rescue. I am certain that your friend is a decendit that has answered the ancestor's call ten generations later such was Johanis's love for Sulianna!"
The gnome goes to one knee "Please free me so that I may see to my sister and revive her!"
Lyrio |
Lyrio uses his wand of CLW on himself, as he moves closer and tries to understand the stranger's intentions. He signs Radagosa to keep holding the sleepwalker.

Stephani starts gathering the group and herding them back to the previous room.
"This little gnome is not being truthful. In fact, he is the most powerfully evil creature I have ever come across. I am not sure what is going on here, but I won't be releasing him unless it is in order to banish him."
GM Glyn |
1d20 ⇒ 17
Lyrio feels the gnome convincingly wants to get free and go to his sister.
The Gnome eyes Dusklord, "She is in this cave, I can't see her from here, and I haven't heard anything from her in sometime. I don't dout your good intentions to help her, but she needs special care and you may inadvertently cause harm. It is best if I was the one to see to her. Her state of mind was questionable, she may attack you are even me. Like I said I can reward you if you only free me."
Starling the Swift |
"It seems to me you'd say anything to get us to free you. And this after trying to use an undead dragon to kill us! Since you're not going to reward us, I say we just leave you here. If we run into your sister we'll resolve the issue one way or another. Let the complete lack of knowledge about her fate be your punishment for your aggression towards our innocent group." Starling turns to the others, "I believe we're done here for now."
GM Glyn |
The gnome snarls at Starling, " I'll break free soon enough with or without your help!"
Kalkamedes still seems to be fighting his bonds, still under the compulsion.
Stephani du Boules |
Stephani smiles at Starling's speech. "I knew I liked you for a reason..."
She proceeds to start looking around the rest of the cavern.
Dusklord |
Dusklord hesitates as they turn to leave.
"What if his sister is the overwhelming evil influence?" the wizard asks. "And not this sniveling gnome in the summoning circle? What if she is still here pulling strings as an undead entity?" he wonders as he begins looking for the remains of the sister.

I just know for sure he wants to get free, as imagined, and go to her. If she's really his sister and what are his true intentions, though, I don't know. - Lyrio keeps his tone only to his companions - Well, I particularly don't care much either. Let's search more this cave. Radagosa, let Kalkamedes walk a little more - if he tries to approach the gnome, though, stop him.

Exploring further into the cavern in a second alcove you find another circle with faintly glowing lines tracing the platform's floor in concentric rings. Within this second circle laying unconscious is a beautiful, but severely wounded elven warrior-woman.
Stephani du Boules |
"This one does not radiate the evil aura that the gnome did. I don't see how they could be related anyway."
She approaches the woman, and stops at the edge of the circle. "Dusklord, what are these? Can I cross them?"
Dusklord |
Dusklord investigates the circle to see if it appears to be active still.

The druid approaches the circle and detects magic, immediately analyzing it with his spellcraft knowledge.

He proceeds to explain his findings to the group, before turning to it.
The positive energy was protecting her from the dragon. - he completed - And I do agree, it's unlikely she's the gnome's... "Sister". If she's not evil, than we should release her.
With that said, he tried to hit the circle with his scimitar.

The wizard says "If this one is not evil, perhaps we should heal her and see what she says of the gnome. I would not allow evil to spread in the world," he says with little conviction.
GM Glyn |
(didn't know Lyrio was a post ninja too.)
The circle can early be destroyed by any of you. Also the circles would not prevent any of you from entering and entering or leaving.
The lady remains injured and uncouncious where the circle is destroyed or not.
Starling the Swift |
"Wait a minute, before we destroy the circle, we could enter it and take care of the woman, then decide if we need to destroy it. She might not be innocent herself. I for one don't understand how she could survive with these wounds for long."
Stephani du Boules |
"Yes, I agree. No need to put the cart before the horse."
Stephani enters the circle and puts a hand on the lady to heal her most grievous wounds.
Healing: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 (and remove fatigue)
GM Glyn |
Once healed enough to come to, the woman sits up as she looks around her eyes radiating divine light as she takes stock of the situation. She smiles at Stephani, ”Thank you stranger for healing me I am in your debt. I am Sulianna a Ghaele. I had intended to end threat to the countryside, An evil Glabrezu contained within the other circle. The circle’s magic was degrading and he would break free in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately I underestimated Koth’Vaul’s power and the extent to which the prison had weakened. I was severely wounded in our battle and took refuge in this circle from the undead dragon. “
Taking a breath she continues, ”I must have passed out from my wounds, I dreamt of calling out telepathically for help from a good soul a human male passing nearby, but even then Koth’vaul interfered with the my call for help. Whatever you do, don’t release the Glabrezu! I am still too weak to battle it again, but I can grant one of you the power to banish it.”
Lyrio |
Lyrio looks at Dusklord, silently, and then the druid smiles. He could almost bet the wizard would love to have this power, even if just for a moment - assuming she was telling the truth...
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
GM Glyn |
Sulianna nods, drawing some of her essences out into a small radiant ball of divine energy she pass it into Stephani.
As the energy passes into Stephani she feels empowered with divine insight. The magic words and motions needed to banish a being are crystal clear in her mind, it would be as easy as child play to cast the spell.
Stephani du Boules |
"Thank you. I will not let you down."
Emboldened by the new knowledge and power, Stephani turns to her friends. "Shall we do this? He will likely resist, so let's all be prepared to react if necessary."
Is it a simple matter of going back in and performing?
GM Glyn |
Yes, Just like you are a ring of spell storing with a single use of banish at Sulianna's level.
Dusklord |
It does not take much for Lyrio to see the lust for power in Dusklord's eyes.
"I would see how this banishment is done," he says to Stephani.
"Do you need my assistance?"
