Ranim begins by moving up to Tybek and placing a hand on his shoulder, "I must say you look a fearsome sight, Tybek. I'm sure you'll blend in well with the natural growth of the area like that." She then casts her spell and whispers a message to him.

Tybek carefully makes his way across the stones without hardly making a sound. He followed shortly thereafter by the amazingly lithe alcoholic cleric and the strangely not quite an elf warrior. Tybek moves ahead and steps from the glaring sunlight of the cloudless sky and into the dark interior of the moathouse. It takes a moment for his eyes to adjust, but just as they do, he suddenly sees two large goblinlike creatures standing guard and carefully watching the main entrance to the moathouse. Although Tybek is using his greatest care, a piece of mud from his boots rubs off on a broken piece of stone making the smallest of noises. As this happens, both guards ears suddenly perk up and two sets of large eyes suddenly turn toward the dwarf.

Surprise Round - Recap
Surprised by the two large guards stationed in the room, Tybek is unable to defend himself and takes two serious blows before being able to respond.

Despite the blood flowing from his shoulders, the wily dwarf manages to land a solid blow into one of the creatures. As the blow lands, he suddenly realizes that while these guys look like goblins, they are much larger and appear similar to the champion in the goblin cave which the party fought with Zert many days ago before they began to delve into the moathouse.

Knowledge(local) DC11:

These are bugbears. Bigger and meaner cousins of goblins.

Round 1
Despite the wounds they received, the two creatures continue to attack the dwarf, and appear to be arguing at the same time.

He yells in: "Looks like these goblins are getting the upper hand. I must intervene. Ty, hit them and step back if they are still up."

Braden removes a stick a butter and a toy shovel. He wants to use more powerful magic than the grease, but is concerned the dwarf would fall to his death as collateral damage. He casts using arcane words and gestures and the butter is consumed rather than the shovel. A slick coating of grease appears under the feet of the goblins and behind them. Grease:

Duration 1 min./level (D)

A grease spell covers a solid surface with a layer of slippery grease. Any creature in the area when the spell is cast must make a successful Reflex save or fall. A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can't move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details). Creatures that do not move on their turn do not need to make this check and are not considered flat-footed.

The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature requires its bearer to make a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item. A creature wearing greased armor or clothing gains a +10 circumstance bonus on Escape Artist checks and combat maneuver checks made to escape a grapple, and to their CMD to avoid being grappled.

Round 2 - recap
Calling upon the natural forces of the swamp, Maegge calls a rather unnaturally large frog which appears from a greenish cloud in the hole caused by the collapsed wall of the moathouse. The frog immediately hops forward toward the bugbear it can see by the door from the room. Halfway there, the other, uninjured bugbear swings its morningstar at the frog.

Readied attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Crit confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

The blow lands opening a huge wound in the frogs formerly green, now red, neck. Despite the blow, the frog turns and opens its huge maw grabbing and crushing the rather surprised bugbear. In less than a second, the bugbear's grip on its morningstar is released and the overgrown goblin ceases struggling as its body goes limp while bleeding profusely.

Immediately after the frog and bugbear have a meal together, Berashel, grasps his sword and charges into the dark interior of the building. The first thing he sees is Maegge's frog attempting to swallow a bugbear whole, something that makes the not-quite-an-elf's stomach turn. He also sees that the second bugbear is beginning to open the door to the main chamber of the moathouse.

Next in is the brave cleric of brew who, after attending to the injury prone dwarf, charges after the draconic paladin. Arindale sees the same things as Berashel, but not as well due to the sudden change from the bright sunlight of the cloudless drought sky and the dark interior of the keep.

The rest of the troops follow behind with Ranim further healing Tybek to put an end to his whining about unexpected blood loss and the little folk moving across the stagnant moat and onto the rock strewn strip of land outside the moathouse.

Round 3
Seeing his companion consumed by the frog, the sole remaining bugbear flees out the door. Nobody can see to where he ran, but the direction appeared to be toward the stairway down.

Sorry for the confusion. For this level, I pulled a map from the web that I found, unfortunately it is hard to see the doors and stuff on it. I will move everyone since that is what appears to be the intention.

You entered in through the collapsed wall in the rear room of the moathouse. The rear room is adjacent, NE, from the main room of the level. The stairway is pretty much straight west along the back wall of the main room. Essentially, it is right at the limit of Berashel's vision on the last map.

Berashel and Arindale have only made single moves. You can reach the other bugbear this round if you want to make double moves instead, but not attack since you had to move through the door, and, thus, did not have a direct path.
