DM Chaos |
Is anything magical in there?
You have not checked.
_________Current Moathouse Map - Main Level
Tybek searches the room.
-->Make a knowledg(engineering) check please Tybek.
Tybek Odeon |
"Crivenns! Daes anybody ken wha tae mak a decent roof any mair?!! Ahh just walk o'er here and the damn thing fell in! Ahh can tell it wasnae made by a dwarf!"
"You keep getting your self in trouble...I need to save some of my healing in case we run into anything more dangerous than ticks or lizards!"
"Ach, yes Ahh still hurt, the roof is tryin tae kill me, but tak care of the wee fella first. It looks loik the lizard was eatin him mair than me!"
Tybek Odeon |
I apoloigize, but I was not keeping track of my hit points well enough. When the roof caved in, it knocked Tybek unconscious. The channel energy brought me up to 2 hp. Thanks, Arnindale. Do you have any other healing resources, or do we need to rest? How many charges does that wand have?
hp 2/13
"You still hurt?"
"Dae Ahh look loik Ahhm still hurt? Ahh hae a gash on my arm, blood drippin doon mae head and Ahh hae a sore back! O' course Ahhm still hurt!"
"Someone going to check to see if any of the items are magical we just found?"
"Dannae look at me! I only find the stuff. I cannae dae any of that hocus pocus stuff that yae spellcasters dae. I can tell yae if it looks valuable, but dannae ask me tae tell yae if it gives auf some mystical aura of arcane wonderness!"
Tybek sits down in a quiet section of the room and nurses his wounds while he rests before pushing onward.
Braden Montajay |
Braden casts detect magic and examines the contents.
many detect magics Spellcraft@+9: 7d20 ⇒ (2, 12, 10, 16, 5, 14, 14) = 73
"Criminy Tybek! A dwarf collapsing a roof. Isn't that like an elf pulling up plants and having a tree fall on them?"
DM Chaos |
Tybek - Don't forget that Arindale used 2 channels in Post 1442.
When Braden casts Detect Magic, he does not detect anything in the chest, however his senses do detect a faint abjuration aura coming from seemingly within the dead lizard.
DM Chaos |
As you begin to disembowel the lizard, you notice that there seems to be a bit of a lump in his gut (something you would have noticed if you had not rolled really bad knowledge(nature) checks.)
Further carving results in Braden being covered in lizard guts and holding a disgusting object covered in the remains of the lizards last few meals which appears to be a worn, but still usable shield.
Braden, your first Spellcraft was not enough to determine what it is.
Glorfin Umbar-Caeli |
Seeing the shield recovered from the lizard's stomach Glorfin is surprised to say the least, and then casts an appraising eye across it.
Is it wooden or steel - and is it classed as light or heavy?
The misadventures of Tybek cause him some concern, though it settles out at a mere "Perhaps it best we see what lurks beneath? - it seems the structure above has turned itself against us." delivered with his typical deadpan so you are unsure if he is promoting mirth or speaking with seriousness.
Tybek Odeon |
hp 10/13. That's better!
"Criminy Tybek! A dwarf collapsing a roof. Isn't that like an elf pulling up plants and having a tree fall on them?"
"Grrr!" Tybek mutters, "Ach, It wasnae ma fault! Ahh was lookin at the floor and Ahh didnae expect the ceilin tae come fallin in!"
At the sight of the shield, Tybek comments, "Aye, that's a noice wee find, but dannae expect me tae carry it if it's all covered in lizard guts! If yae clean it up real well, Glorfin may be able tae use it!"
Tybek Odeon |
"Ok mae friends, if we're done lollygaggin and bletherin, then we should proceed south of the entrance we came in. If we want tae be safe, we need tae mak sure that nothin can sneak up and stab us in thae back!"
Tybek will lead the others to the unexplored hallway (by R23) and he will proceed south from there.
He walks carefully with his axe drawn and he is always checking for traps and treasure.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 <-- Kindly add +1 for Traps and +1 for Stonework
Chaos, what is the location of the stairs that descend down to the lower level?
Ranim Nejem |
At the sight of the shield, Tybek comments, "Aye, that's a noice wee find, but dannae expect me tae carry it if it's all covered in lizard guts! If yae clean it up real well, Glorfin may be able tae use it!"
"If you like, I do know a few magical tricks that might help." If no issue, Ranim will use Prestidigiation to clean the shield.
Just mentioning as far as healing resources that Ranim still has both her first level spells which can be used for CLW if needed.
Tybek Odeon |
"If you like, I do know a few magical tricks that might help."
"Ahh ma lady, yae are most kind tae offer! Ahhm sorry yae hae tae put up with such disgustin sights such as cuttin up a lizard and splatterin its guts everywhere. However, if yae hae an easy way to clean the shield, Ahh'm sure that Glorfin and the wee folk wid be most obliged!"
DM Chaos |
It is a heavy steel shield +1.
It takes a few minutes, but Ranim's magic manages to clear the shield and once finished you see a rune etched warhammer appear on its surface.
This is the symbol of Torag, the main dwarven deity and also called the Father of Creation.
The entrance to the stairs down is at J17, in the northwest corner of the main entry room where you came into the moathouse.
As Tybek leads you back to the passage heading south of the central room, you notice that there is a stairway leading up next to the passage to the south. Unfortunately the stairway appears to be completely impassable as it is choked with rubble after a few steps. From what you can see, even if you were to manage to clear the stairway, the former upper level of the moathouse appears to be completely collapsed and rotted after nearly three quarters of a century being exposed to the elements.
Looking down the hallway, it appears much like the west hall you just explored with two doors on the right and one on the left. Unlike the west hall, however, there are no double doors at the end, rather it appears to open into a larger room.
Glorfin Umbar-Caeli |
Glorfin regards the warhammer motif sagely and nods "It was put to the service of Torag at one time... he and Ogoun walk often side by side, so it would be no disservice to either if I bore it." sliding his own shield off his arm and onto his back and replacing it with the now lizardgutless bastion of Torag.
He then beckons Tybek to lead them ever on...
Tybek Odeon |
Tybek in the mode of a thief, creeps down the hallway listening very carefully and looking very carefully. He is ever trying to notice traps, treasure, or even a ceiling about to cave in. He will listen and inspect the first door on the left.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 <---- Add +1 for Traps, and +1 for Stonework
Unable to notice anything unusual, he will then open that door and step inside.
Tybek Odeon |
No problem, Chaos. Take your time. I think everybody is busy these days!
"This is the room that Ahh wouldae wanted tae stay in! Mind yae, somebaudie didnae tak gud care o' their things!"
Tybek continues rummaging through the furnishings looking to see if there is anything of value that can be salvaged or perhaps there is some valuable trinket hidden away.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 <--- Kindly add +1 for Traps, and +1 for Stonework
Maegge Weissam |
Creeping along at the back of the group, Maegge poses riddles to Braden in hushed tones to not draw Dwarven ire.
"Эта вещь все пожирает: Птицы, звери, деревья, цветы; Грызет железо, укусы стали; Grinds твердых камней до еды; Царь славян, руины города, И бьет высокой горы вниз."
"This thing all things devours: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down."
DM Chaos |
While the halflings crack jokes behind his back, Tybek pokes and prods his way through the room, suddenly, he moves an old and tattered tapestry aside and there is a squeaking from above. At the noise, Tybek looks up and suddenly realizes that there are hundreds, no thousands, of bats suddenly taking flight straight into the room.
Surprise Round
Tybek may act. Nobody else was in the room, that I know of.
The bats are above Tybek in the ruins of the level above.
Tybek Odeon |
Even Tybek knows when he is outnumbered. He immediately runs outside of the room and shuts the door behind him. "Crivens! Did yae see a' them bats?! There mustae been twa thousand at the very least! Ahh wouldnae open this door again unless yae had some anti bat repellant!"
If Tybek was able to escape without injury, he will proceed down the hallway to the next door and continue his cautious careful approach to trap and treasure finding.
Perception : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Kindly add +1 for traps and +1 for stonework.
DM Chaos |
As Tybek turns tail and runs, the bats all take off as one filling the room. Tybek manages to escape, but not without taking a a number of nips on the way out. Fortunately, the bats do not seem to want to follow - which you are sure they could do by simply going through the wrecked second story. Once the door is closed, the few bats that made their way out before the door was closed flutter off into the darkness of the ruins.
Tybek - Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Nice call there - you guys are really poorly suited for fighting swarms from what I can tell.
As that was the only door on the left hand side of the room, Tybek proceeds across the hall and opens the first door on the right hand side.
This room was once a conference chamber, but is now empty. Its dirt and wreckage show no signs of any recent occupant, though a couple of small rats are seen scurrying away. There is a splintered display case against one wall and pieces of what you assume was a table and chairs strewn about the floor.
Tybek Odeon |
"Crivenns, Crivenns! Ahh dannae loik bats at a'! Did yae sae them nippin at mae as Ahh left the room?! We were a' lucky tae be alive aftair that close call! Yer just lucky that Ahh had mae head aboot me and had the gud sense tae shut the door! Noo, Ahh dannae want tae see any o' yae wee folk sneakin in fer a peek! They wid mebbae eat yae up fer dinner in half a minute!"
Tybek limps along grumbling to himself at his wounds as he looks around the conference chamber.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 <--- Kindly add +1 for traps and +1 for stonework.
DM Chaos |
Tybek heads into the conference room. Although he is looking for lizards, bats and rafters that might have it in for him, his eyes do spot something shiny apparently stuck behind the display case. Hesitantly looking behind it, he spots a bastard sword wedged there and somehow overlooked by the prior residents and looters. A few good tugs results in a face full of dust, but does manage to dislodge the sword from its concealed location behind the case.
It is a Masterwork Bastard Sword if anyone can use it, or wishes to use it.
Tybek Odeon |
"Aye, me friends, tak a look at this beauty! It's tae bad it isnae an axe, but mebbae we can get a pretty cap fer it ana way!"
"I think it is time to use that curing wand on our Dwarf who seems to find trouble..."
"I dannae find trouble! Trouble always find me!"
Ranim Nejem |
Tybek Odeon |
Although pleased to have found such a nice weapon, Tybek still grumbles about his wounds he is suffering from. "Ach! Ahh dannae wantae keep gae'n at the moment. Ahh think Ahh hae a hurt back, a sore leg, a poundin head ache, a hundred itchin flyin beastie bites nae tae mention a wee rock in mae boot. Ahh need tae stop fer a wee nip, and try tae get these wounds frae bitin!" Sitting down on an old piece of furniture, Tybek pulls off his boot, smells it, and then sticks his hand down it to try and find an annoying pebble. You cannot help but notice a pungent aroma, not to mention his big toe sticking out of a hole in his sock. "Ach! Here's the pesky culprit!" Tossing the pebble across the room, he then pulls his boot back on. "Ahhhhh! Noo that's mair like it!" Next, the dwarf pulls out his pocket watch and gazes fondly at its moving hands and he puts it lovingly close to his ear as he listens to its mechanical gears moving in a symphony of ticking. Finally he puts it away in his pocket and comments to Arindale, "Ahh ken it's aboot time we kept gae'n, but could yae first tak out that healin stick, wave it aboot and dae somethin fer these wounds?! Ahh could also use a wee nip if yae hae a bottle tae pass aroond!"
Braden Montajay |
"Are we out of healing from Arinadale? If so, let us use the healing stick."
Braden looks at the sword:
"A monster one that is--not for small hands."
As the bottle is passed, Braden pulls out a pie. Somehow he managed to get flour and meat cooking on a hot surface again in the kitchen.
Pr:Cook-untrained: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Unlike the before, the sizzled meat with crunchy, flaky goodness on the outside look quite good. Before getting any looks, he removes another from his other pocket for Maegge. As he munches on the pie, he speaks again.
"I am not one for tackling swarms of tiny creatures. Don't think dogs can knock them down at all."
Maybe burning hands in my future?
Tybek Odeon |
"Almost out of healing...here take one of these!"
"Ach! That feels better, but must yae hit me on the head wid that thing?!"
Once healed, Tybek leads the group onward. This time he takes them straight south to the open room.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 <--- +1 for Traps, and +1 for Stonework.
DM Chaos |
There is one more room on the right side of the hallway that you have not searched.
This appears to have once been a banquet hall, or perhaps a meeting room. It is clear that it was once luxuriously decorated. However, only tatters remain and if there was once a large table here, it has long since rotted or been taken away. All that remains are the remains of a few wall hangings and a few broken chairs and benches. In the southeast corner of the room, the exterior wall of the moathouse has collapsed and bright light streams in. As with most other holes in the wall, all that is outside is the stagnant moat and the jungle beyond.
Tybek Odeon |
Tybek walks around the old banquet hall and investigates carefully. He is looking for any evidence of treasure or valuables that have been overlooked by previous looters.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16<--- +1 for Traps, and +1 for Stonework.
Once he has finished his investigation, he goes back to the remaining door in the hallway (now on his left). He listens to the door and then slowly opens it after checking for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11<--- +1 for Traps, and +1 for Stonework.
DM Chaos |
This is in the room at the end of the hall.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
As Tybek carefully looks through the wreckage of the room, he suddenly notices a large reptilian face staring back at him.
Ah ha, he thinks, I see you, you are not going to get the step on the wily Tybek.
Tybek then steps back completely missing a second snake that snaps at him from behind.
Surprise Round
Attack:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

But the bite glances off Tybek's armor harmlessly.
