Evan Rivers |
After the battle and the groups split up Evan says. "Zombines eh? I had not expected that at all. Bandits, centaurs, monsters and fey, yes, but not undead. Maybe this is brought on by the people from Irissen that Nadiya talked about? There were tracks of several women, it seems weird for a group of bandits to be composed of only women, but I'd they are the winter witches of Irissen it makes sense. Do anyone of you know much about witchcraft?"
knowledge arcana about Irissen or do you want something else? Nobility? Using guidance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Shogunto Heineous |
Shogunto crosses his arms.
All this conversation of nobles and pink skinned women... - he grunts - ... And now, undead. Well, most of them were so frail already in life, so puny, I don't think I'd be able to differ alive from dead. Heh.
His jokes were definitely not the greatest. He pulled his longspear again.
Maybe we should follow the tracks already to find out, anyway. Plus, I like the idea of dealing with bandits. If they are or were hostages or slaves, then Milani is definitely screaming our mission to us!

Winter witches you said, huh? - Shogunto seems to be extra-slow, but it's not surprising with his immense intellect - I dealt with witches in the past! Nasty creatures, most of them. Well, not all of them. - he chuckles looking at himself - This just became more interesting!
Gideon Dawnbringer |
Gideon prefers to walk over a wagon. He likes to have a more "natural" experience.
"Several times in the past I have fought bandits. Never in great number though. Most have been poorly organized and equiped, though once I fought a group that was secretly financed by the Church of Gorum. They were a bit tougher... still in the end being on the side of right usually prevails".

You all arrive at Oleg's Trading post. The place looks to be a reclaimed wooden fort from maybe a century ago. While the timbers have somewhat endured and it loos as though someone has been trying to restore the place it still has a run down military outpost vibe.
A quick ride around or fly over reveals the menacing appearing towers have busted canopy roofs and the four catapults facing the corners are weathered to a point where attempting to fire them would shatter the poor things.
There's a stable which remains a stable. A former barracks that appears to have been converted to home, Inn, and shop. A former black smith, who's fire pit is presently being used to smoke a pig. A former armory that appears to have suffered a fire and collapsed.
Someone looks to have started shoring up the old wooden palisade with brick but only managed about 4 layers tall thus far.
(the Olegs in the book is scaled poorly as it wouldn't hopuse enough men to crew 4 catapults. basically every square is actually 4 5ft squares to adjust scale. The main building is huge the other two stay same scale meaning more white space. Apologies for requiring more from the theater of the mind on that.)
Wikiwik |
Impressed by this human who didn't run screaming as soon as he saw the monsters on his doorstep, Wikiwik threw the front of his poncho over his shoulder and struck a heroic pose, his complex rifle prominent in his hands.
"Your troubles over! We avenge leg-stealing!"
Evan Rivers |
Before stepping out of the wagon Evan muttered a quick incantation, anything to help make a better first impression is good, right? Evan nods at the man with a smile. "You must be Oleg. It's nice to finally meet you. Yes, we will help you with the bandits. I am Evan Rivers, my lookalike is Nave and he's not my twin, but actually an outsider. The goblin is Wikiwik, the hobgoblin is Reafil, the orc is Shogunto and the other man is Gideon. Finally the beautiful, wonderful, amazing winged elf is Kejal. Isn't she great?" Evan holds out his hand to the various members of the party as he introduces them. "We've been given a charter to explore this region. As part of that we'll deal with any bandits or other troubles you might have. I'll be looking forward to getting to know you here better and hope that we'll mange to work out things between us."

Kejal |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Kejal blushes at Evan's introduction. "My beauty pales in comparison to yours, m'lady," She says to Svetlana, a smile spreading across her face. She acknowledges both Oleg and Svetlana. "Even were I to gain such a love as the two of you share, I'm afraid that I would be lacking."
Kejal stifles a chuckle from Wiki's heroism. She shakes her head, thinking how much more noble the goblin is than these bandits. Looking towards Oleg, she furrows her brow. "They stole your prosthetic? And the lady's ring? How utterly barbaric. What do you know of them?"
Oleg the Stouthearted |
@ Wikiwiki If they didn't keep taking my horses I'd give them what for myself for that. Problem is they carry alchemist fire and there's just too many of them for me to handle.
@ Evan Well met young man. I can see by that glint in your eye you've either fallen in love or your on the edge of it. I know what kind of strength that can lend a man, you and yours are welcome here.
Svetlana Petska |
Svetlana blushes which hardly detracts from her appeal,@ Kejal Sometimes the beauty is a curse as it attracts unwanted attentions. I'd rather have pretty wings to soar above those who would do my family harm and avenge them with my magic.
@ Gideon Freedom is something I cherish, but I have no need of redemption, save that for the bandits some of them are little more then children.
They started neutral with the vast amount of diplomacy they are firmly friendly now. It is Saturday morning game time. You will have until Sunday morning game time to prepare for the bandits arrival.

Since I know it will come up here's what Oleg knows:
Since they took his leg after he resisted the bandits arrive in force 16 strong riding double on 8 horses. 5 of them seem to be better than average archers (yeomen) and they are led by a dangerous man named Happs who is also know to be a fairly good woodsman (ranger) (making a total of 6 archers.)
Of the other 10 men and women about 1/2 are in their early teens (young template.) The other half are men in their 20's that have abused the local women in the camp to some degree and seem hardened in the life style.
Svetlana has taken to using food to make the men more complacent and for the last couple trips it has worked they all come inside and eat, take their "taxes" and leave.
The fellow that set up shop inside Olegs was getting harassed by bandits as well and he is a potion maker named Bokken. His hut and supplies were burned down by bandits and he plans on hiding himself and his meager stock tomorrow. He is willing to sell from his present stock (2 potions of cure light, 2 potions of endure elements, 1 potion of cheetah sprint, 1 potion of cure moderate) and mentions that if you can deal with the bandits he might be willing to trade a permanent discount for another bit of work.
Oleg is a fighter 1/cavalier 1 though most of his feats are around mounted combat and charging with a lance (the draft horses wouldn't work they are not combat trained.)
Svetlanna is a 1st level sorceress with the Harrow bloodline. She is willing to offer assistance as long as someone can cover her from ending up in melee.
Since there's ample time I'll allow the group to take 20's on stealth inside the fort since you know precisely when your foes are supposed to arrive they always show up at 12pm.
Reafil Dathu |
"Then a two-pronged assault. Is there any way to drug or poison the food? Wikiwik and I are quite adept at stealth so we can hide in a place to bring the archers under assault quickly, limiting their ability to fire at the rest. If the others are hampered, it will give the rest of us a chance to finish off the bandits that aren't eating."
Gideon Dawnbringer |
"Drugs... perhaps, but poison never. Lady Svetlana just mentioned that some of them were mere boys and girls... perhaps misguided and needing to understand that what they are doing is wrong. I agree we should find a way to dissuade them from ever attacking again, but wanton death is not a practice I endorse. Gideon then sits again a bit red with his fiery speech.
"Of course I realize you meant not to take innocent lives, but that is something that I oppose strongly. I have the ability to determine which of them is really evil, but need to be in front of them to do so. Perhaps I could pose as a guest of the establishment and dine at the same time as they do. Maybe we could split up with the stealthy ones taking out the outside group, and a few of us inside to deal with the diners. As far as Hobb goes, I have a feeling he may require special precautions"?
"Does anyone here have experience with setting up non-lethal snares or traps? Perhaps some pit traps or nets"?
