Gallak Fangbreaker |
Gallak barks a syllable of freedom, its power washing over the stone and sinking into the huge door. Straining against the very limits of the spell, the wand he holds tightly hums a moment as though working to overcome the sheer size. A resounding click is heard from the door, though the overall success is unknown.
CL check for door: 1d20 + 3 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 10 = 19
Joan the Hunter |
Joan halts the stream of arrows, and seems to be rather pissed that her target can't be seen. She glares at the closest gnoll, a crazed look in her eye.
"YOU! Is there another way into that room?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Nar Redgrave |
Force Greataxe still attacks this target for 2 more rounds If you call that attacking
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Nar throws another heal towards Kragg
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
"We can't let that giant get away!"
Kragg Stoneheart |
Kragg moves away for the fire bomb to go off. Once the fire clears the first strands of webbing, Kragg charges back into the fray.
Move action away from web. Reflex if needed although saved last round. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Standard to ready charge when webbing clears from the fire.
Attack 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Damage 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 3) + 16 = 22
Hon Semparatus |
Watching Kragg make it out of the webbing, Hon smiles in gleeful anticipation as he draws out his flask of Alchemical Fire. Stepping back for a pitch as close to the door as possible. As Kragg clears the webbing with a final leap, Hon winds up for a pitch just in time to see a flaming ball streak into his vision, engulfing the web encased iron door.
A steady stare at the wand holder, a white-skinned Dwarf of questionable birth, Hon’s hands replace the flask with a firm gentleness not shared in his voice, nor his smile as he switches to Dwarf ”Good casting. Handy wand to have, eh?” Watching the fiery glow of the webbing, Hon retrieves his backpack and awaits for the burning webs to dim.
Chainmail |
Hon vs AC5: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Hon hits the door and the webs begin to burn from the door outward. The flames should be completely out in 18 seconds.
Web was 20 foot radius, alchemist fire splashed in 5 foot radius, fire will spread one web at a time, so the other 15 feet of 'radius' will be consumed in three rounds burning 5 feet at a time.
Pito struggles to get free and speaks in common, "I think you made him real mad. I hope he doesn't flood the tunnels." 1d20 ⇒ 19
He points down past the cages. "Another door like that one opens on the other side of the cages at the other end of that tunnel. The big tunnel leads to a tower in the middle that goes all the way up to the top of the mountain, and all the way down to the catacombs."
Pito also adds, "Grunhilda, Gundar's mate, is meaner than he is. Especially if this was her nap time."
Hon Semparatus |
1) Must've missed the gnolls being caught up in the webbing.
2) I am perfectly fine with Gallak shooting the wand. Makes for better interplay and saves me a flask. Unless he did miss his UMD attempt.
Hon will rush to assist Pito's and any other gnolls' escape attempt.
Reflex to enter webbing 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Escape Artist assist 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Escape Artist assist 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Escape Artist assist 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Reflex to enter webbing 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Joan the Hunter |
"Meaner than me?"
Joan snarls as she pulls her sword out to cut the gnoll free from the web, but sheathes it again when he breaks free himself. She turns to the others, then turns her attention back to Pito, concern taking over for anger.
"Did you say flood the tunnels?"
Chainmail |
Gallak attempts to get the wand to work, but the sorcerous spell eludes the knowledgeable bard. Magic devices were a tricky thing to operate. Thankfully Hon had the big bottle of fiery liquid and the skills to toss it. The gnoll Pito exits the web and points down the hall the way you came in. The gnolls grab their stuff and seem ready to make a break for it.
The webs continue to burn slowly.
Anyone making a DC13 CM or escape artist can run through webs and the fire (30 feet of movement difficult terrain+10 normal=40feet) and get to the door. Failure will mean being caught in the flames.
Nar Redgrave |
Force Greataxe still attacks the giant in its last round, and it may actually hit!
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Nar makes for the door! CMB: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Joan the Hunter |
Joan goes to the other side of the bridge and tests the ice.
survival(Will the ice hold her weight): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Hon Semparatus |
Muttering once again to himself,"Ach...Lemmegitdistraight, I throw fire, web catches fire, dwarves rush into flaming web. No wonder the clanhall is suffering. Perhaps Rock is using these missions to breed off the shallow end of the fire pit. Idiots."
Hurrying over to Pito, Hon looks him in the eye (keeping an ear out for rushing gnolls in the rearward tunnel), "Are you saying there are additional giants in that room or perhaps a tunnel directly leading to the giants? And by the way congrats on your new toll bridge; if we make it out alive, lets talk about a deep discount for all future "Dark Owl" transactions, eh?"
Flooding the tunnels. Nice defensive trap. I'll make a note of looking for the water resevior. Lets see if the gnolls really believe that.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Scratching off one alchemist potion.
Chainmail |
Nar and Kragg run into the middle clear spot as the webs burn to the outside. They see the giant moving ahead of them, moving defensively.\
Hon notes that there are two options to move farther down. Move into a cage through a set of doors, noting that there is a second cage with two sets of doors, and then exiting the second cage. There is a mechanism inside the cage that seems to control the interior doors.
The other option is to run over the ice of the frozen lake, which may hold a small, unencumbered child or pet.
Pito looks at Kragg and Nar with admiration.
"Usually the giant chases people, not the other way around."
Hon Semparatus |
Hon notes that he did pack his crampons just for this event, but thinks twice regarding the thickness of the ice. Hon dismisses traversing the ice with only the hesitancy of thought, The gnolls ignore it. The ice remains barrier free so it must be the barrier itself. Despite the ice forming, it is not cold enough underground to solidify to support my weight, much my gear as well. Right. Cage it is.
"Pito, Lets just say we have unfinished business with the giants and insist on finishing the transaction. Think about my initial offer about your new toll bridge." With that, Hon hefts up his pack and hustles to and through the cages. "More out of pocket expenses... Rock gonna get an expense report and there better be a bonus. &^%*$#"
Hon will move as fast as he can, pay if he can and try to cut off/surprise the giant if he can.
Nar Redgrave |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Speaking of slowing down, this probably won't work but you never know and it will damage it some
Nar casts a spell and a loud blast erupts near the giant's head.
sound burst Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8 plus Fort Save DC 15
"Might as well give up now!"
Kragg Stoneheart |
Kragg hustls forward moving past the webs to get closer to the giant. Knowing that he can't charge it with the webs in the way he taunts the giant hoping to demoralize him.
Death is following you. Surrender now and make it quick. Otherwise your death will be prolonged.
CMB1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 for webs
Intimidate 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1. Really a negative total...maybe the giant stops and starts laughing instead.
Hon Semparatus |
Intimidate d20-2. Really a negative total...maybe the giant stops and starts laughing instead.
Hon cringes as Kragg squeaks out a cliche'. "Sounds just like a shrill gnome reading a romance novel during storytime. Poor Kragg. This'll haunt him later. I'll make sure of it." Hon approaches the mechanical magical contraption, Lessee can't be too difficult.
Chainmail |
The remainder of the webs quickly burn away (tired of tracking them). Kragg sees the fleeing giant stop and heave a massive rock his way.
rock: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
The training against giants can't evade the boulder. 1d8 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21 physical damage
The giant climbs a set of stairs to the right.
Map updated--everyone to go
Joan the Hunter |
Joan sees the flames go out as they consume teh last of the web.
"Hurry up Hon! You'll miss the fun!"
Joan and Liulfr go rushing for the tunnel.
Hon Semparatus |
Round 9 I think.
"But...But... Don't split the party. Hand on cage, first the wolf then Joan fly by. Might as well be flying, I'll never catch up. Grunting with effort and frustration, Hon hauls butt after Joan. Sprinting to keep them all in sight.
Move 20, Run20x4=80. I guess this means Hon passes them up.
Chainmail |
Forgot to save for sound burst, a 1 still fails even if it gets him to 15+
Fort giant: 1d20 ⇒ 3
The giant shakes off Nar's magic burst, a look of pain quickly crosses his features as he rushes up the stairs. Hon moves as fast as he can and rushes to the stairwell.
The steps of the giant at first seem to echo in the stairwell, but it becomes obvious to Kragg, the skilled ranger, that the giant only pretended to climb the steps and awaits in ambush to the right. Before he can shout a warning, Hon barrels ahead of him to discover what he already knew. Hon looks up to see the huge giant towering above him with a huge boulder in his hands.
Will post Monday, Kragg and Nar are still in hot pursuit. Nar and Kragg can reach the giant waiting above them in the stairwell if they want. Hon already has :-)
Nar Redgrave |
Chainmail, the giant should be just out of reach for a channel from where Nar is
Nar channels hoping to save Kragg's life (Should heal Joan too if needed)
2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
He then moves up 20 feet to ger closer to the giant.
Chainmail |
The giant begins to pummel Hon and Magnum.
Hon takes two vicious punches, but slips a brutal haymaker as a finishing combo.
Physical damage for2d8 + 18 ⇒ (7, 2) + 18 = 27
The last blow is defected by Hon's might armor and he clings to consciousness.
Magnum tE |
Magnum heaves the might hammer at the giant. His throw hits the giant with a thunderclap, but the hardy giant resists being stunned. The hammer returns to the ranger's hand.
Party up, Hon at 0hp. AoOs may be a concern for him.
Joan the Hunter |
"Sic 'im boy."
Joan notches another arrow as Luilfr bounds forward and tries to take a chunck out of the giant's foot.
Luilfr Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 - 4 = 14
Joan comes to a stop just on the other side of the stairway from the giant. She lets fly another arrow at the giant.
Attack Joan, Favored Enemy, Point Blank Shot, cover: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 4 = 26 Oooo, so close.
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
Chainmail |
Luifr misses the well armed giant, but Joan puts another arrow into the giant. He bleeds from a series of wounds but is staying up.
Pito rushes up to the fallen dwarf and grabs his axe.
Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
His eyes glaze over and he rushes with the large two-handed axe into the fray.
Anyone else, we are slowing down here, may need to get the prisoners in early.
