[ooc]Did people forget the nightly rum poisoning? Or is it not a nightly event?o/ooc]
Wis damage 1d4 ⇒ 3. Cha bonus 1d3 ⇒ 3. Slight of hand to avoid tonights rum 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15.
Night action: Sneak to finish searching galley 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19.
Being alternately surly and sycophantic Ryzern manages to convince the crew he is drunk and so pass beneath notice as he passes below deck to search the galley.

Alistair heads to bed while Kess takes the opportunity to track her movements. She's thwarted however by the simple act of a locked door. She retires to her's and kroops cabins and you can hear them going at it for hours with loud talk and louder drinking. You get the feeling that getting drunk and cursing loudly and atrociously is a nightly ritual.
Meanwhile while Kess is away spying on the quartermaster Mugwort finds the armory. It is locked, unfortunately, and a number of curses have been laid on the door. Mugwort can tell this by the long note that has been nailed to it. So many words can only mean the worst kind of trouble.
Riven does catch up with the quartermaster and KEss observes that the jolly man is welcomed into the pair. Unfortunately this means that he will have to consume another rum ration to be accepted into the order of down on their luck pirates.
Ryzern gives the gnome pressing her ear hard to the door of Kroops quarters an odd look as he goes to rummage and tidy the galley. Having managed to slip the rum overboard he manages clear vision as he lights a lantern and begins his work. As an after thought he even uses a cantrip and within a few minutes of digging and reorganizing is surprised to find a grappling hook under the numerous piles that radiates magic.

"What in the name of Besmara's hidden tattoo is this? Why would any sane wizard bother to enchant a hook? Right, answered my own question. Sane describes precious few people on this scow."
Ryzern slips back to his bunk studying the hook as he can. Is there time and space for a spellcraft roll to ID the hook? If I can I will use my ring to cast Identify to get the +10 to the roll. The owl feather is wine might be hard to manage but a seagull feather in rum might work.

Riven didnt hesitate to down another quaff of rum as he shared tales and jokes with the quartermaster...and the he screamed 'take the bag off, take the bag off' and with healthy fear the other men said 'but she might bite you' and that old sailor replied with a grunt 'I dont be caring, I want to kiss this hoary b$+!*!'...hahaha...hohoho...can you believe dat one me hearties?..and dis be one of da best dings about pirating, it is...

Kess gives Ryzern a sly look and presses her finger to her lips as he walks by. Eventually, she makes her way back to her quarters.
Seeing Ryzern holding a grappling hook, "Planning a mountain climbing excursion, Ryzern? Forgive me, but I didn't see you as a Mountaineer." She grins at him.
Quickly, she changes the subject. "On another matter, It appears that Quartermaster Grok bunks with Kroop, and she drinks quite abit of rum with him. Perhaps we can exploit this to get back some of our stolen things."

DESCRIPTION
This iron grappling hook is attached to a 50-foot length of silk
rope. When a steadfast grapple is thrown, it automatically hits
and attaches to any targeted object or structure within range
of its rope. Against creatures, the wielder must make attack
rolls as normal. Once attached, a steadfast grapple can only be
removed with a DC 30 Strength check, the command word, or
magic such as dispel magic.
CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, animate rope, true strike;
Cost 2,500 gp
The next day as you go to receive your duties from the bosun's mate one of the crew comes up from below deck pale as a ghost. He slinks his way quietly to Mr. Plugg who gives him an ugly look before the man speaks quietly to him. With a look of surprise he turns and spots the group and then his expression goes from a scowl to a sadistic sneer.
He points at the group. "You, you and you! Your turn in the bilges! There's a tiny rat waitin on ye!"
His orders given he strides away leaving the bosun's mate to shrug as she doles out duties intended for you on other crew members.

Alistair looks at his mates on one side then the other, "Which three of us, or all of us? Mugwort are you hungry for some fresh rat?" Bilge and rat, Alistair has no interest in either.

Alistair lets his stair at Master scourge linger, not so long as to provoke an escalation, but just enough to hint at defiance. He looks about to see if there might be some type of improvisable weapon and then follows mugwort down below.

Seeing Kess grab a mop RIven wished he'd remembered to ask the quartermaster for a shiv...dat damn rum had me head swelled like a Sarenith tick... He shook said head to clear it and looked around for any sort of weapon.

All that Alistair was able to find was a length of rope, almost an inch thick and about 10' feet long that he will improvise into a whip.
He peers into the bilge as they descend into it, following Mugwort.

The steaming of the bilges and the crowdedness in here makes the bilges a miserable sauna. Fortitude saves DC14 to avoid 1d4 points of nonlethal damage please.
As you descend the ladder a deep sense of forboding overtakes you. It would seem silly to send six armed people into the bilges over one rat. Granted the extreme heat and cruel treatment of the officers thus far does not leave that outside the realm of possibility. As you resolve to at least get a few rat bodies to pile you look around trying to squint through the this steam trying not to drown in the sheer humidity.
That's when you notice the movement just out of the corner of your eyes...

The group barely has time to react as Mugwort yelps an alarm as the wet figures emerge from the water giving hisses of anger and warning before leaping to strike giving you just a split second to react before you are rent to pieces.
GROUP IS UP!

Kess stirs up the humidity some more as she bends it to her will. The recognizable smell of ozone is in the air once more as she points to one of the Dire Rats (AM0) and unleashes a Storm Burst. "The resemblance is uncanny, Mugwort."

Alistair readies his makeshift whip. I looked it up and it looks like I get a -4 to the attack due to being improvised, but I do get the +4 DEX bonus due to my Weapon Finesse feat.

Great placement Tark. So much for ending this fight with a Sleep spell. :) Fort save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Damage 1d4 ⇒ 4.
Gasping for breath, his face streaming with sweat Ryzern can do little than press his back against the filthy hull ands try to fend off the red-eyed beasts.

The group quickly gets its act together and attempts to put the dog sized rats down before they sink teeth into flesh. Kess manages to dodge gnashing her teeth but the jostling action causes her shot to go wide. Soon she is overwhelmed by pair of rats who bear down on her with one rat managing to sink its teeth deep into the flesh of her arm before she shakes it off 3 damage.
Another rat manages similar results with riven causing him to jerk and shake the rat off even as he lifts his club to strike at another rat leaving the broken body of his and alistairs chosen victim floating in the stinking water 6 damage. Mugwort too is not immune to the ravenous wave of fangs as the rats nip at his own flesh apparently not particularly caring whether his flesh is as putrid as the rumors state or not. 2 damage He quickly swipes at oen of his attackers putting a long gash along the side of its face causing it to squeal in pain even as it gets up to strike again.

Hsst Alistair! Ye be wanten to roll dem bones for the bilge damage. I be thinkin ye not be want'n Tark to be reminding ye.....
Tark thought about being brave, stepping south one square and casting Color spray to catch the three rats in the bow but then I realized 1. I have no colored sand to use as a material component and I doubt the cook keeps a large enough selection of spices to sub in for the needed spectra. 2. Casting would draw two attacks of opp and I have 3 hp at the moment, and 3. Ryzern is a spineless coward. So full defense again please.
The one legged man continues is quest to become one with the planking.
