It will be Lightning Guild. St. Cuthbert's is just a little too on the Lawful side for my liking. :)

Thanks for the catch, for some reason I read trap finding as a flat bonus to perception and a bonus to DD for traps only. Fixed it.

batponyTheta Thief you have been promoted to active player. Rknop, I am sorry, but I haven't seen any posting from you, so I'm going to put you on the alternate list for now. Alternates if you are interested in a spot in the game, I choose those who are the most prepared. TT had a character ready to go, so they got the nod.
Players I will be writing up intros over the weekend. Hopefully we can get the ball rolling quickly. Stay tuned
Curtin,
Thank you for the promotion! Also now that I've seen the party composition I've finally settled on a Cleric. Stats should be done for anyone to peer review at their leisure.
Also I would still like to ask my question again since it was never answered and it plays into my background and character goals. What is the max number of people that can suddenly arrive in Sigil without a big fuss being thrown up about it?
Lastly on the section where you highlight Flash and I as None Chosen. I'm assuming we have to choose between the Lightning Guild and the Lodging of the Lost?
Patrick Curtin |
Max number? That's an interesting questiion. The way people usually arrive is through portals, and most portals are relatively small. You could have a constant stream of people come through a gate over a period of time, no problem, but no sudden *bam* and there's a group there. As for numbers. Sigil's a ten-million-strong city. You can drop a pretty large number in that and have it get swallowed up.
For the second part there are four choices:
- St Cuthbert's
- Lightning Guild
- Both
- Neither
This is mainly a role-playing thing. St Cuthbert's will be a more lawful/regimented area where the Lightning Guild will be more loose/chaotic. Allying your character to one or the other isn't necessary, but it just provides me with a way to have you all do something together, rather than plunk an old man in a tavern with a quest.
Myriana |
I missed that St. Cuthbert's was lawful, this could be really funny. Myriana is the naughty cat girl of the place who keeps getting into trouble for being herself. How strict is St. Cuthbert's anyway?

Not super strict , but they do insist on good behavior within the walls. Any hint of rogue-like activities would possibly result in expulsion. They are a lawful order, but their main mission is mercy.
Myriana |
Rogue like activities within their walls only or period?

As the old saying goes: Do what you like, just don't get caught. Being apprehended by the Harmonium or even a local merchant will likely end up in expulsion
The Lighning Guild is much more sanguine, being a node for grey activities and an Indep safe house

Random thought: you could start at St Cuthbert's and through Roleplaying eventually shift over primarily to the Lightning Guild.

Lol Tsun, you're so cute when you're grumpy, mEOW!
I like that idea Patrick, I can't see Myriana lasting much longer at the St.s at with it being all orderly and lawful and stuff.

OK. I dropped an intro piece. If you folks want to just play about a bit and get a feel for the characters go ahead. I started you all off on one thing or another, but what you do from this point is up to you. Some examples:
- Hunt for a job for the day
- visit ally or friend
- walk around city
- look for a opportunity for money that isn't job-related
- work at your respective lodgings
- go shopping for supplies
Myriana |
Sorry for the delay Annabelle, I've been a bit busy this weekend. First off, I love it, you're from CYGNAR! Even better you included one of my favorite characters from the setting, Alexia, into your backstory.
As for connections, Myriana would have been trying to cheer you up from the get go. She'd also like be willing to help you try to fix Patches by obtaining parts and trying to hunt down Ashe for some well earned paybacks. Myri doesn't like bullies and thinks they should always get exactly what's coming to them.
rknop |
I contacted rknop via PM, and he said he was interested still, but I don't see any action. If you see this, please post up by today, otherwise I'll have to put you on the alternate list and promote an alternate to the active roster.
Hey -- catching up now. Sorry about the delay. I didn't realize this thread was going until you told me on the 30th, but then I foolishly didn't catch up over the weekend.
In any event, I believe I'm on the alternate list now. Assuming I'm there, here's the character who would be waiting in the wings. Reedalvan (who usually just goes by Reed) is a young (18ish) Tiefling who grep up on the streets. He was found abandoned as a toddler on the doorstep of (a campaign appropriate orphanage -- probably somewhere in the Lower ward, or perhaps even in the Hive ward near the Gatehouse).
Since then, he's been a handful. Willful, he often runs off and goes exploring. He's been effectively escaped from the orphanage since age 12, although he's always dropped back by to maintain the fiction that he was in residence there. He'd sometimes help other children escape for brief periods of time to have fun. He has served as a light boy, and now is trying to learn enough to become a messenger or even a tout.
He's obviously a tiefling. His skin has a slightly ruddy cast, and he has a pair of vestigal horns that stick out of either side of his forehead. His upper legs are human, but his lower legs are furred and end in hooves.
Mechanically, he'll be a rogue (an unchained rogue).

Sounds good rknop. Remember in PbPs there is often turn over. Get the character set and an alias constructed and we'll keep you ready to fill a spot. If the game goes smoothly enough I might expand the active players. I will choose from the alternates who have their characters ready.
Reedalvan |
rknop here --
This character has stats for Reedalvan. Look at the profile for a stat block. A full character sheet is here.
I have not yet purchased equipment; how much money would we have for that?

wow a bit of posting going on... will have to see what is happening.
Hi Edward. I was just reviewing your post on the gameplay thread. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I do have to retain narrative control. While I do encourage participation, this game isn't a collaborative narration piece. Your opportunity to work on your eidolon will come in time. So no cart with gizmos off the bat.
Patrick Curtin |
I should specify since we are just starting out, and I don't want there to be any misunderstandings:
I as GM will decide where the placement of things and people in this game are. If you want to see something in game, feel free to post it here in discussion and I'm happy to work it in, but the narrative becomes muddled with players deciding on things in game. While collaborative narration PbP games can be successful (my friend Lynora's Agartha PbP springs to mind), this is not that type of game.
If, as Woran/Sara did in their last post, you name a minor NPC who would logically be in the narrative, that is fine. That is just defining a piece of the narrative that belongs. There was obviously a brother who tasked them with the chore. I had not named him, thus "Brother Tilner" is now his name.
I hope this clears up any confusion

My bad. I don't know why I thought you were starting out there. You can move your primary focus over there no problem

No it's fine like I said I took to long. Plus like mentioned in the story it kinda makes more sense for St. C's to take in a clueless prime then the LG. I'm sure with my character's focus on gathering information to find her townspeople she will eventually end up at the LG. I'm not sure planescape is not my forte lol but I hope I have fun learning.
Congruence |
Quiet day at work, so FINALLY finished up Congruence's Friends/Allies, Enemies/Rivals, Wish List, etc. Not 5 of each, but tried to come up with some stuff that might have interesting story appeal.
Two questions:
1) What do you think about Story Feats? I like them much more than the "+X to some Y" ones and took one of them (Nemesis and am considering another (Object of Legend) but they will require some DM cooperation, so I wanted to make sure you are alright with them.
2) How do you prefer handling my familiar? Even separate from being a familiar, it is a divine emissary sent to guide me on my path of paladinhood. I can play it up and build some of that into the story without just winding up talking to myself, but I wasn't sure if you wanted to NPC it instead, especially since Congruence is kinda clueless about this path he is on and the emissary is slowly revealing it to him (and it's not very intelligent and isn't sure what it is doing either - mostly going by intuition). Either is fine with me.
Thanks!
