Tales from the City of Opal

Game Master Patrick Curtin

This is my homebrew world Arcaia. This particular setting is the free city of Opal, a lush equatorial city set on the edge of an immense jungle rife with undead , ancient civilizations, and dinosaurs.

Oh they gave up on Communism decades ago Shiny. Now they're crypto-totalitarian-capitalists.

I mean really, a communist country that outlaws labor unions? That's like running a democracy and outlawing voting ..LOL

Yeah, I was sort of alluding to the fact that the meaning of the word "communism" seems to mutate every couple of decades. And right now, that meaning seems to be "capitalism with a red hat."

Also, we Americans outlawed voting years ago. We've got an auction now.

Imagine that your vote is represented by the approximate surface area of an example of Ixodes scapularis. In this scenario, then, the total pool of American voters can be represented by the total surface area of the continent of Asia.

Aww. Well just remember the Butterfly Effect. (And no, not Ashton Kutcher's movie, but that was a good one). Sometimes your action can have more consequence than you could imagine. Apathy changes nothing. It guarantees the status quo.

ANyway, enough of this emo crap ..On to the spiders!

Just letting you know that if ever a spot becomes available in City of Opal, that Mark Thomas (Drazek in Silver Rose) has expressed an interest in joining, which I'd be happy with - he and I play well together.

Cool. :)

Now I have a vision of Seven Eagle being carried on Ten's shoulders like an old skool boom box...

I can see Ten Foot break dancing as well, like Vanilla Ice in his famous video, not quite cool, but trying anyway.

or even Jim Carey...

Yeah, you really start delving into the mythos and there are some really skrewy stuff. Add in the fantasy trope of undead and WHAMMO! Necromantic empire!

I just realized, Xipe Totec is just the type to use Ossary Golems (from this years RPG Superstar) for his idols. In any case, time to beat up a construct.

Hey folks. Today, thanks to several converging things I have made a descision to take a sabbatical from being online for a while. I apologize that this will mean I wont be posting updates, but I am sure I will return at some point. Thank you all for being part of my madness and I hope we can resume at some point in the future.

Wow. This was my longest running game...but I understand how that can happen. I've been thinking about the same for my tabletop games. Get things straightened out, and Egan will be eagerly awaiting your return.

Wow is right. Very sorry to hear that, Pat, but San will be waiting if you decide to start this one back up. Thanks for a great game, and take care of yourself!

Now that you mention it, it might be mine too. Anyway, see you if/when you come back, and hope things go well until then.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you return, I have enjoyed being part of this immensely and I have improved my own DM story telling from the experience.

Good Luck

Patrick, thank you for letting me join all of you in this wonderful experience. I hope you get this convergence sorted out for the best. This was my first pbp, and my longest running one. I have had a great time, and look foward to your eventual return.

Thanks,
Nathan

Hey folks. My life is actually settling down quite a bit better than I had anticipated. I think that I will be able to resume a regular posting style a few weeks earlier than I had anticipated. If you guys haven't moved on, I will be more than happy to resume the mantle of GM.

Aaaaand updated. Signing off for day, enjoy and mayhap I'll get some time to post tomorrow.

Heads up, wife has been in hospital since Thursday and she had to have an emergency operation today. So my posting might be patchy for the next week.

Do not delay the thread for me, DMPC if I don't post please Pat.

Holy crapolla! I checked back the first week or so, than my life got crazy hectic itself. I drove about 6000 miles over the month of April, and have already driven nearly 3000 miles this month, getting things ready for my work. I am currently in Salt Lake City, on my way to Oregon. I would be more than happy to pick Iz back up though. Was and still is my favorite pbp I have played in.

No worries Iz,/Nathan, you aren't the only one having issues. Feel free to hop back in whenever. They have just killed the big statue they were fighting and they had to stop and carve some rot grubs out of Jo, LOL

Male Half Orc - Half Human- Half Something Else (I know that is 3 halves, but he is a big chap) Cleric Level 4

I have not managed to level up Ten yet, I will try over the weekend.

I am also following the thread, just not posted yet, apart from one that seems to have been eaten on Tuesday.

Is it the Twilight Zone?

Awaiting more specialist appointments now, so life is no less crazy, although I did manage to save an old copy of my accounts over my new copy and wipe out two days work. Nothing like being an idiot to make your life more interesting.

All right. I want to reboot this game. I made the descision. But, we're gonna have to go hard reboot.

Everyone still interested post. Then I will see if I can get a few extras to fill in the holes. Then we will start afresh, back in Opal. I have a few ideas, hopefully we can make some fun. =D

Still here, still interested. Would you consider any "reboots" of characters? There's been quite a bit of new material published since June 2010 ...

The Exchange

I'm ready for the reboot. If we do get to retool our characters some, I may look at some archetypes for Iz.

And yeah, can't wait for my two cases to show up in December.

Yeah I'd like to use my homebrew, but don't feel tied to your old characters
