Languages:

Because this is a PbP, we have the opportunity to use neat scripts and that sort of thing for different languages. For this campaign, we will use those languages that can be found in Google Translate. When doing so, for audible speech, use the Latin-alphabet phonetic translation (typically found underneath the box in which the script translation appears) so that we can read what it sounds like. If, however, the conversation is telepathic, mental, or if the words are physically written down, use the language's own script, if it has something else (Arabic, the Cyrillic alphabet, etc.), which is usually found inside the translation box.

Taldan is the 'Common' trade tongue, pretty much everyone uses it, therefore we use English.

========================================================================

House Rules:
  • Dealing Minimum Damage: You can attempt to do minimum damage with your weapon by taking a -3 (vs -4 to turn it into nonlethal damage) penalty to your attack. If you succeed in hitting but only just (i.e. 'right on' the number you need to hit), you do your full standard damage; if you hit by more than that, you do your weapon's minimum damage. While this is usually 1 hp, in the case of a multi-die weapon (2d4, 2d6, etc.), it may be more. You may not add anything extras (strength or dexterity, sneak attack, precision, etc.) in order to increase your minimum; you will do (generally) 1-2 hp and that's all. (This is best used as a show of skill, nicking someone enough to draw blood but not do any real damage.)
  • Wild Shape: Druids will be familiar with all creatures of the type(s) they can wild shape into that exist within their home domain (that being defined on a standard 12-mile-hex area map of a five-hex diameter circle, or as close to it as is reasonable considering terrain, e.g. one side of a mountain rainge, with a maximum of 19 hexes); this includes subtypes that are in the area. . . . For creatures outside of their home range, they must make a KS: Nature roll with a DC equivalent to 10 + (Creature's CR) + (1 per 50 miles beyond the druid's home range) to know enough about the animal or plant creature to wild shape into it. If the druid has been familiarized with a creature despite it being well outside his home domain or the creature's natural range (e.g. a tiger in a sideshow, the druid's extensive traveling), familiarization being able to take at least three hours studying and interacting with the creature(s), he may add that creature to his 'familiarity list' for which no roll is required.

Vigilante, other Paizo classes and PrCs: This has been inquired about by several people, but the following is the best Q so I'm going to quote it and answer it directly. (Added: effectively, Vigilante is best done only with cohorts and followers, due to the 'need to be getting well-known and have a reputation' bit.)

I'm trying to keep the Information Page up-to-date in that regard. Failing miserably, but hey. :P :) Yes, the Hybrids are allowed.

Bane88 wrote:
I may have missed it somewhere, but I see that some people are submitting hybrid classes such as hunter and warpriest where you had initially stated core and base only. Did you happen to repeal that Wyrm?

Wait, hybrid classes aren't considered base classes? I thought base classes just meant classes with 20 levels of progression and no prerequisites, basically not prestige, monster, or limited classes.

So if that isn't true, then what are the limits of what counts as a base class?

To TWO,

Quote:

Seeing as the commentary says the spell list is a slimmed-down version of the Sorcerer, I don't see why you don't just use the sorcerer's spell list and restrict yourself to selections from that.

This isn't true actually. The list has much fewer spells than standard sorcerer, and since the list was created in a vacuum without any supporting abilities, some consider the regular sorcerer as better due to the much greater spell selection.

However, the witch example spell list includes spells from the wizard, cleric, and druid lists, such as detect/delay/neutralize poison, cure wounds, bestow curse, etc.

In any case, the hunter will work better I think, the feral archetype gives me shapechanging and I'll still have some martial ability. I'll take bard as well for the other style of casting.

Question, can potions be made in other forms, such as bracelets that activate upon being broken, or tiles that you break?

What about crafting items to straight up cast a spell X times per day? I.E. a small figure that can cast Endure Elements once per day. I figure it would be a much more expensive but more efficient way to handle some common traveling issues. Alarm, endure elements, tiny hut, etc would be small expensive trinkets instead of large, cumbersome, and heavy objects making traveling easier and stealthier and maybe a bit more comfortable. The book gives straightforward rules on making them [namely: command word price equals (spell level * caster level * 1800) / (5/(5/uses per day)) and double if it doesn't take a body slot, though that doesn't make sense for spells like alarm or tiny hut. Perhaps these need to be "equipped" by the place they are used, such as laying a blanket down that summons the hut on top of it?].

I figure the combat spells could get a touch unbalanced, but I would expect sticking to traveling and utility spells to be fine. Though I'd take quick escape or trap setting spells if allowed (could actually set these to be usable once per X number of days as well).

Looking not just for my characters to use, but also to be the sort of items my character makes to outfit herself and her followers, and maybe sell sometimes.

Core classes: From Core Rulebook
Base Classes: From Advanced Player's Guide
Hybrid Classes: Advanced Class Guide

You can look at them on the .pfsrd

If its a class from any of the above books, you are good to go (provided its not specifically called out as being disallowed like the Witch)

TheAlicornSage wrote:

One of the original core classes - fighter, rogue, paladin, ranger, wizard, etc.

TheAlicornSage wrote:

Okay. Then no, not allowed.

TheAlicornSage wrote:

So long as it's a one-time consumable and undergoes the same retrieval and consumable requirements, the form doesn't matter. Takes a move action and provokes an AoO to retrieve (unless you have something that reduces the time or allows you to do it safely), then takes a standard action that provokes another AoO to trigger it. But if you want a potion-function to not have potion-penalties, the cost goes up.

I believe there are rules for that, yes. If you want to spend money and request a custom item, feel free. These will fall under the magic item limits as appropriate for the item cost.

In regards to making/selling them, you don't get to do that until well after (and, thus, unless) you've been accepted; ask me then. Otherwise, the campaign application rules for magic items apply.

The Wyrm Ouroboros wrote:

Oh! Is this allowed? Usually I've seen it discouraged by GMs, but a Ring of Prestidigitation (instead of having to wait until next level to upgrade a Ring of the Trickster) would be really nice for the sake of staying clean on the trail.

Brilliant! One less system I need to learn. Thank you. I will get on the gold spending and should be done with the crunchy bits this weekend. With any luck I will have the fluffy parts done by then too.

I assume we do not need to make alias's for the followers and can just have their stats listed on the main PC. And I will defiantly be pulling the Cohorts cohort from the pool of followers. I am really thinking I want the recruits option but I want them to be mythic for the durability and shenanigans of mythic. Will you put the mythic feats and path abilities up on the campaign info page so I can find is easier?

So question. Is there likely going to be enough time for someone who hasn't started the recruitment at all to make a character for this game before the recruitment closes?

Admittedly, I'm going to have to have a look at what other people are making when it comes to making my character. Level 7 is enough to have a solid advancement, that's for sure. But there aren't any particular builds that are standing out to me right at this moment. Especially as I know I'm going to have a cohort, and a free Story feat...

Recruitment closes the 18th and about 6 people out of 8-16 are guaranteed a spot from a previous game. So plenty of time and plenty of room.

Good, good...

Now I just need to figure out what I'm going for. Honestly, some of my favourite classes such as the Swashbuckler or the Investigator aren't actually allowed, as I'm only allowed to play as a Base or Core Class.

Hmmmm... I could play a Bard... but the Unchained Rogue is pretty good, and I wouldn't mind giving them a non-gestalt spin to see how they do...

Wait hold up. Does the Vigilante count as a Base Class?

Hybrids are allowed. The "only Core and Base" is a copypasta from the original recruitment, which had a different GM.

Oh. Neat idea. That would actually be a little cheaper than a 1st level wand if my math if right.

Endure Elements:
(spell level * caster level * 1800) / (5/uses per day) * 2 for no slot
(1 * 1 * 1800) / (5/1) * 2 = 1800/5*2 = 720

Tiny Hut:
(spell level * caster level * 1800) / (5/uses per day) * 2 for no slot
(3 * 5 * 1800) / (5/1) * 2 = 27000/5*2 = 10800 - too expensive.

And now I am imagining a wizard with a tiny animal figurine collection and each casts a different spell once per day.

Aramil Wellys wrote:

Excellent. I'll be playing as a Swashbuckler then, with either a Rogue or Vigilante Cohort

Wyrm,

Do you have any suggestions for Favored Enemy? I have the player's guide, and was considering Human and Undead. However, as we're 7th level vs 1st, plus our cohorts, and other bonuses, I was wondering if you had better suggestions.

Edit:

Is it possible to create a custom scaling item? My main weapon will be a bow, but there's no example of a bow in the rules.

Also, are we allowed more than 1 scaling item, provided they all fit the magic item limit?

Finally, will be able to acquire other scaling items in game potentially? Either through treasure hauls or (less likely) purchase?

Need to write backstory... but... so lazy.

Sovereign Court

Draco is done, as is his Goblin Cohort.

Need anything else, or am I all set?

I can't remember if I saw the idea somewhere else or here but it sounds like fun. I have already submitted a character but I really like the idea of a Dwarven blacksmith that's so good at smithing that he can craft magical weapons without an ounce of magic, probably using the properties of certain magical stones. Would following the much less efficient Master Craftsman line to get Craft Magic Arms and Armor by level 7. Probably fighter. Would use the fighter bonus feats to at least be a competent combatant.

Tempting but a level 7 takes a long time to build and one of the legacy player's cohorts is a crafter so their covered.

Well, be a specialist crafter so your crafter is different.

For example, a character of mine elsewhere focuses on these small trinkets that are mechanically potions but they are flavored differently as small braided leather braclets that affect the wearer when broken.

Of course, I figure on doing a little bit of crafting here, but mostly spell-per-day utility items with a few reflavored potions. I won't be touching things like weapons, armor, cloaks of eyes, or similar.

derpdidruid wrote:

Anyone who has been in one of my recruitments - TheAlicornSage can bear witness to this - will come to know that my character picks will be made less on technicals (though these must be complete, as I've stated before) and far, far more on background and how well they mesh into the campaign and bring something new, different, and interesting to the experience.

The Wyrm's recommendation is to get un-lazy. :P :)

Draconillias wrote:

I'll take a look. Remember that with the new character, you're into the recruitment again, not the auto-accept that the others were - albeit you do get a bonus point, as it were.

It is allowed, yes.

HOWEVER.

If you are requesting something not out of the books (e.g. 'bracelet potions', or the curled-up-kitty-figure that casts 'Endure Elements' once per day), you cannot bury it in the 'other gear' section. You need to seperate it/them from your regular stuff, stating what the object is, what it does, what it is similar to if it is a 'retyping' of something like the potions, and give me all the appropriate links to the spells and effects. If you do not, then the answer will automatically be 'no'.

I will adjudicate each item seperately.

Your cohort needs to have an alias; your secondary cohort (cohort's cohort) will need to have an alias eventually as well. You do not have to make aliases for your followers, though if you plan to use particular followers frequently, it may be useful to make aliases for them. Just thought of this, you might also create an alias that is simply 'PC's follower'. (Or followers, whatever.) And then you could put the stats for them into spoiler tags there, if you are delving into them that deeply.

(Remember / if you don't already know, when creating spoiler tags, you can use 'spoiler=Title' to customize the title of a spoiler.)

Let's have a look at the list.

Recommendations/suggestions would be ... Aberrations, Animals, Fey, Humanoid (Human or other subtype, though orcs, goblinoids, and gnolls are rare), magical beast, monstrous humanoid, any of the Outsider types, Plant, and Undead.

So it would've likely been easier to just list what not to take, which I think came down to Vermin (though, y'know, there can be times ...), Oozes, Constructs, and Dragons. Not, again, that there won't be times that those opponents won't come into the campaign, but they're not likely to be frequent visitors.

So it's really, really up to you. The most frequent opponents you may have run into running around the River Kingdoms would have been the Fey and Humanoids of one type or another (mostly humans, but lots of elves and gnomes). I won't tell you what's coming, of course.

Yes, yes, and yes. Scaling item creation was discussed earlier, starting here; if you have any further questions, feel free to ask them.

Myrza, bg building,

Myrza bg info:

There was an old woman, Therona, who lived mostly on her own in the woods in the River Kingdoms. She had once been an adventurous sort in her youth and so knew many from many places.

One of these was a dwarven merchant, Daggeth Blunderbelt, who travelled between a small band of dwarves in the Branthlend mountains and the dwarves in the Golushkin mountains.

On one of these trips Daggeth was taking a widow, Vishkenya Frosteye, and her child, my character Myrza Frosteye, to live with relatives in the Golushkin mountains. Therona traveled with them to the river where they were attacked. Both Daggeth and Vishkenya were overwhelmed and Therona knew she couldn't win so she grabbed the child and ran.

Therona thus raised the child as best she could.

Myrza thus grew up with almost no knowledge of dwarven culture and only a few memories of other dwarves. She learned how to survive, fight, use magic, and craft from Therona, and in Therona's archaic, tarot-centric lifestyle.

Myrza is thus a very odd dwarf as her mannerisms and style of dress (including rather short hair) are most unlike the standard dwarven styles.

Therona eventually died fighting off some bandits while making one of their infrequent trips to a larger settlement.

Myrza at that point decided she wanted to defend travellers from pirates, bandits, and all others who kill to take what they want, having now twice lost everything for no reason other than greed. Not only is this her reason for becoming a guard for hire, but also why she decided to answer the king's call [for this adventure].

Myrza thus made a name for herself as a hired guard. Mostly her distinctiveness as a very unusual dwarf is mostly what made folks talk about her, but given her dedication to doing the job right, it got her plenty of work.

Myrza eventually noticed that the haphazard way of having some random folks thrown together for each job was a rather weak way of guarding, so she recruited a few others to train together as a team to more effectivly handle any problems. Finding it hard to get any experienced folks, she thought she'd never accomplish it until she one day had a run in with an orphan girl, Nyx. She took the girl in (seeing how her own life could've easily been that way). While teaching Nyx, Myrza had the bright idea of taking on novices, training them from the ground up to work together. They became quite an effective company of guards and made a name for themselves, locally at least, as Myrza's Crew.

One day, a group passing through heading for Brevoy, had a lot of bad luck and were looking for additional guards to hire for the rest of their trip. Through a bit of luck and a recommendation, Myrza's Crew got the job.

Myrza and her crew escorted the group safely to Brevoy, through a few more attacks (which, to Myrza, seemed suspiciously like they were specifically targeted attacks rather than random bandits/pirates.). (I'll leave who this group was in the hands of the gm. A potential handle for tying into the story.)

Myrza found the city they arrived at fascinating. She also found a school for teaching a style of magic she had never learned. So Myrza decided to hang around, taking mostly local jobs while studying at the school in between. (Always improve yourself was a lesson she hammered into her crew, so her crew understood the desire to learn a new style, not to mention that she shared what she learned by incorporating it into the style they trained with.)

Nyx (Myrza's cohort) has been with Myrza the longest and is basically the second in command as well as the quartermaster of sorts given her knack for making and fixing all their equipment and being even almost as good as Myrza in making making magical items, such as the healing sticks (potions) they use. Nyx also tends to do all the buying and selling as she has a knack for haggling and diplomacy.

Myrza's magic, and thus the magic she has taught her crew, is the rather unusual wordcasting, making her crew's magic fairly flexible. As Myrza made a name in Brevoy, she gained several followers seeking to learn this style of magic and combat. Myrza mostly accepted the young and alone, though she took others on occasion, including, Wilhelm, a wealthy merchant's son after he decided he didn't want to follow the family business and ran away from home, a falling out Myrza hopes to guide him into rectifying someday.

Myrza has shown a knack for magic of multiple styles, running a successful company of hired guards, and though she doesn't go out of way to find those in need, she is helpful and generous to those she encounters that are in need as well as clearly attempting to be polite even if her social graces are gruff (though clearly improving quickly as noted by anyone who has known her for a while).

Myrza and her crew have helped on occasion for greater issues, such as during a large fire started by a carelessly thrown fireball (adventurers, never considering collateral damage :).

Alright, assuming I don't have scrap significant parts of this bg, I'm ready to start tying bg things together with other applicants. Anyone interested?

Anyone who has been in one of my recruitments - TheAlicornSage can bear witness to this - will come to know that my character picks will be made less on technicals (though these must be complete, as I've stated before) and far, far more on background and how well they mesh into the campaign and bring something new, different, and interesting to the experience.

This is always refreshing. I look forward to having my character's oddities come into play beyond the first introductory post with other pcs. (It is always odd when I play something like a tiefling, catfolk, or a weretiger [my favorite, except the hybrid abilities seem overmuch] and yet it goes ignored by the players and gm.)

Everyone:
If you have a trait or feat that requires you to make a choice - weapon focus, for example - then I need to know what that choice is. If your character generator does not print it out (e.g. Hero Lab, which doesn't print out any number of things), then when you put it up onto your character sheet here (or where-ever), YOU need to edit the character sheet so that it says.

And for god's sake, if you're using Hero Lab, provide me with the character file. :P :)

Not using Hero Lab, sorry. Is it very expensive? I have created some Excel sheets for personal use when I make characters, but if HL is not a money sink I might think about getting it.

Also:

A level 1 wand costs 750 gp. Does that mean that, for a Cohort, it counts as one of the 500+ items? Can we, in that case, reduce its charges to 2/3 to fit the cost?

Thank you.

I am submitting Darg Blanc, Aldori Swordlord, for your consideration. He still requires a bit of work on the build and his background. his cohort will be forthcoming.

You may indeed lower charges. Wands above the benchmarks apply towards the next benchmark tier; the wand/scroll/potion maximum remains.

You do not need, or need to use, Hero Lab; it is indeed something of a money sink. It is simply a matter of convenience for me, since I re-build all the characters within HL in order to double-check them for accuracy.

Welcome, wehrpig.

Would it be easier if I listed the choices as a list of raw and plain choices above the actual character sheet?

I start by making such a list anyway so if it would be easier than digging through a full sheet, I'd be happy to post that as well.

An example of what sheet style you want would be nice, though if hero lab sheets are anything like the common sheets I see everywhere, I'll probably have a second sheet in a more readable format underneath (readable for me anyway).

As the deadline approaches, it would be a good idea for those of us yet to weave our backgrounds together to do so. Darivan is a professional adventurer with some background as a military smith, and, more recently, in a guild known as the Auram Chain, a self-perfection guild based off of the teachings of Irori and Kurgess. If anyone's interested in having known Darivan, let me know.

Getting to the gear portion (finally!), and I have a question about something that I can't quite wrap my brain around. Specfically, the highlighted portions of the following quote.

[quote=]Gold: 24,000 gp, no crafting.
. Magic Item Limits:
. . 1 magic up to 8,000 gp
. . 1 magic up to 4,000 gp
. . Any magic up to 2,000 gp
. . 2 wand maximum + 1 healing wand
. . 10 potion/scroll maximum, +10 healing potions/scrolls

Where do those +wands/potions/scrolls come from? Are those something along the line of a cost-free campaign boon, in addition to the listed amount we buy out-of-pocket?

Or does actually mean "you may buy 'x' amount of wands/scrolls/potions that do assorted things and buy 'x' amount of wands/scrolls/potions that only cover healing?"

I'm assuming it's the latter meaning, which is how I'm buying stuff, but I don't think it hurts to be sure, just in case there is free stuff to be had :D.

Sovereign Court

Draco is a famous actor and preformer. His cohort is a pyrotechnic with a tendency for the extreme. He has traveled far and wide, and has met many people. Perhaps you where one of those people? Or perhaps you know him and he just kept you as a footnote.

I don't care what style sheet you use, so long as I can understand and build the character by looking at it. Which means include things like your choices with a feat, trait, or other thing that grants choices. Such as Fey Thoughts (Fly, Use Magic Device). Having such choices with the trait/feat that grants them is preferred.

Regarding the wands/potions - nowhere does it state 'free X'. Above it, it states 'Magic Item Limits'. Q.E.D.

Draconillias-
Darivan (as a Bladebound Magus) has a rare and powerful magical item in the form of his Black Blade (a bastard sword by the name of Ardafax). Maybe you sought him out on account of his sword?
Darivan's stayed pretty much only in the Brevoy area. While he's somewhat well-known, he hasn't gone very far afield. How often do you visit Brevoy?

Sovereign Court

*thinks for a moment*Well, I do believe I've worked a play or two. I tend to gravitate towards new places with magic or artifacts. Yes, he may have met you for your weapon, but it is just as likely that he knew peole before you who where black blades. He follows rumors of artifact spottings and new magics.
He has been all over. You may have met him in more recent years, for he has been in the area for a while when he heard about a spotting for a staff of magis. Of course, all he could get was a staff of lesser arcana.

Darivan, we may know each other. As a career merc, training is a constant. Seeking out other combat artists for sparring matches is a natural part of that.

Draconillias, you may have heard of me due to Myrza's unusual magic style.

I'm still doing some work on my followers, as well as background for my cohort, but my character is a dwarf conjurer that has spent a lot of time in Numeria alongside various adventuring groups, so if anyone else has spent time there it is not unlikely that they've worked together.

He has been in Brevoy for nearly a decade though, obsessively trying to find a way into Golushkin Hold. Anyone who lives in Brevoy (such as Darivan Orlovsky), especially in the lands of House Garress, has probably heard of the supposedly half-mad dwarf Yuri Magrar, who has set up a camp in Golushkin Mountains, doing a variety of digs and arcane experiments near the old passage that led from Highdelve to his home.

Let me know if anyone thinks they might have worked with Yuri.

Why are there posts missing? I know there were a few, including TWO listing out applicants.

Pendrak, another dwarf meeting Myrza for the first time would likely be far more entertaining to roleplay than to include in a bg.

Still very much in progress, but this is Kyras, a human inquisitor of Erastil. My plans for right now is to have him take the Dynasty Founder story feat, and have his story be that up until the announcement to settle the Stolen Lands he had been a relatively successful adventurer, and had managed to gather up a modest following. However, once the announcement was made, he decided that he had to be involved with the settling there, both to protect the initial settlers, but also to make sure that such a settlement would try to maintain a harmony with the nature of the Stolen Lands. As an inquisitor of Erastil, he is honor-bound to protect settlers and frontiersmen, but equally concerned with protecting the natural beauty of the land and trying to create an environment of harmony.

This message has resonated with many people in the area, since Erastil is relatively popular, and since he has made this his goal he has increased his following by a good margin. Mechanically, I'm imagining him taking the Dynasty Founder story feat at the time of the announcement, so that the +3 bonus to leadership score coincides with him trying to gain followers specifically to settle the Stolen Lands in a way that honors Erastil.

There will be a very big nature theme with the character, with him having the Feather domain with a horse animal companion, and also having the Monster Tactician archetype which allows him to have 3+wis mod summon monster spells per day, which particularly at lower levels focus a lot on natural animals. This character seemed to resonate well with House Medvyed, so I gave him the Noble Born Medvyed trait. Still flushing out exactly what his pre-announcement activities looked like, as well as his cohort.

Just wanted to get some initial thoughts out there for coordinating with others. I don't think I've seen any other Erastil followers yet, but that might be a good hook if there are.

Darivan has spent the last few years at a guild known as the Auram Chain, which is a self-perfection school based off of the teachings of Irori and Kurgess, and encourages its students to seek glory and fame, especially via adventuring, that they might better themselves and learn to survive, challenge themselves, and enjoy themselves. Virtually anyone is welcome, so it would be a good place for warriors, wizards, and everyone in-between to meet.

But before then, Darivan and his cohort were "apprentices" (they were among the best there) at a military outpost on the northern border of the Gronzi forest.

So, in other words, it's quite possible that Darivan has run across any number of people, even before backstory changes are thrown into the mix. It's quite possible that Darivan would have worked with Myrza while hunting down an object or on a quest or somesuch at any point in the last 5-6 years.

Also, TheAlicornSage- I can't seem to find your stat blocks anywhere, or even just what your class is. Are you a magus? If you were, it would make even more sense for the two of us to have partnered up in the past. Darivan is always looking for a challenge, so someone who could match him in combat and magic would be a rare treat for him.

Draconillias, Darivan has a powerful and strange bit of magic within him- an arcane accident left his right arm almost completely black (yet still completely functional), but with arcane energy constantly fluctuating through it (based off of this image), making it glow blue at times.

Still need to finish out the equipment and combat details on my lead, but Theodric and his cohort Darvan are otherwise ready for submission.

As for connections for others, Theodric was once a swordlord candidate, until he got disfigured and blinded toward the end of an otherwise successful attack on some bandits. Unable to afford restorative magics, he was forced to withdraw his candicacy. He eventually learned to compensate for his lack of sight, and has since made his reputation by hunting down bandits. New lands, flush with well-equipped settlers and all-too-few guards to protect them is pretty much an open invitation to bandits throughout the region to come and get fat. Not to mention those settlers who might decide that the neighbors really don't need all of their supplies.

Darvan is an Iroran paladin from Jalmeray, following his own road to perfection by seeking out worthy opponents and pummeling them. On the side, he collects useful knowledge about opponents he has faced, might face, or wants to someday face in combat. He plans, eventually, to put this knowledge into a compendium meant to aid people like himself in learning more about their foes. While he follows Theodric out of friendship, he's pretty sure that he'll find plenty of challenges to test himself against. Maybe even a few people interested in learning more of the Master of Masters.

This be TheAlicornSage!

Okay, I'm building up the stats right now, but the basics are,
Hunter (feral hunter archetype), wordcasting
Bard (archetype undecided, probably arcane duelist or vanilla), normal casting

Nyx, Myrza's cohort, is similar but with more of the mundane crafting skills and diplomacy/haggling. She acts as quartermaster as well as my second in command.

The rest of my troop will be similar on the hunter side, since they are mostly students of Myrza's, though with a generally martial bent. The npc classed folks are mostly warriors with a few adepts and experts to fill out the mundane job slots.

Sovereign Court

Yes, Draco would be curious about your arm, but he's a little selfish at times and would loose interest once he realizes he can't use it himself. He's picky like that. That's why he likes artifacts, he can use them himself!... I have to Change one of his background skills real quick to knowledge arcana, didn't realize I hadn't done this!

I also realized I can use my perform checks in place of Bluff, disguise and diplomacy.

Ugh, just to prevent confusion (since idk what Arcanablood means if not arcane bloodline), but Amavin is a Stormborn Sorcerer.

Sovereign Court

That's alot of competition, even if there are going to be 16 people. 5 already choosen one (me) with an advantage, and like around 12 others... that means with our current list, 1 person won't be picked.

Nevermind, that just sucks for whoever loses. Hopefully we all get picked, because what's one more(or rather two) head going to be?

Thanks for the correction; got it updated.

There are a notable number of people who have been very active in the thread, yet who don't have a character alias (or character, so far as I found on the run-through) up/available.

F. Castor, TheWaskally, That Sean fellow, Gobo Horde, Harakhty Suntooth, oyzar, Deaths Adorable Apprentice, "The Lucky Halfling" have all been very active; Serill Elamaer, gyrfalcon, Mark Thomas 66, and Fury of the Tempest have all posted recently that they're putting together characters. So that's another dozen or so. (Edited Sam C. and his characters into the list.)

Which is nice.

As an aside / request to all, to make things go faster for me building your characters to check them in Hero Lab, please put in how many skill points you've spent in any particular skill.

I'm thinking Ariael will originally be from the Narlmarches, and either heard of the proclamation to settle the Stolen Lands, or more likely took up residence in Brevoy after his home was sacked by bandits.

While he'll probably be primarily a follower of one of the Eldest, he'll also worship Erastil but more as his hunter/woodsman persona than his community one.

Wyrm,

My bow is currently a +1 adaptive longbow, so how would translate to a scaling item?

Oh, and I realize this might be a dumb question, but I would rather be sure than not: Can our cohorts/followers have scaling items too, or just the main/leader PC?

Answering your second question first, for all intents and purposes, scaling is an option for all magic items.

For the weapon ... I realized I kind of did it wrong in the last example for Tomáš Dušek. Since we have two items, we can use both examples, so this is how it works:

First step is to find the standard price for your item.

Tomáš Dušek has a +1 dueling sword. Normal price is 2320 gp.
Ariael's got a +1 adaptive composite longbow. Normal price is 3,400 gp.

We take a look at the Scaling Item Value Chart (just a bit down on the Scaling Item page), and we find out at which level the item's price comes in under.

Tomáš's sword (2320) is either a 5th level Wonder (under 3,150gp), a 6th level Prize (under 2400gp), or a 10th level Bauble (under 3,100gp). Scaling items take a look at the item's value compared to your Wealth by level; a bauble is at most 5% of your WbL, a Prize 15%, and a Wonder 30%. (Wonder is not to be confused with 'Wondrous Item'.) Since scaling items only increase every few levels, and since a weapon is usually a prime item, and especially since you can't have a scaling item above your level, Bauble is out and Tomáš has decided said he wants the item to be a Wonder. His sword started out as a 5th level Wonder.

Ariael's bow (3400) can either be a 7th level Prize (under 3525gp) or a 6th level Wonder (under 4800gp). Going by the same philosophy as Tomáš with his sword, we'll decide this is a 6th level Wonder.

To determine how much of the current WbL we should apply / the item should cost, we really shouldn't max out the Gp amount; instead, we should take the percent-of-total value of the weapon at both the prior stage (5th or 6th level Wonders) and their next evolution. Tomáš, I believe, wants the weapon to scale relatively cleanly from the +1 overall enchantment bonus to a +2 overall, bringing it to 8,320gp. That'll put it at an 8th level Wonder (under 9900gp). Here's where the math comes in.

2320 / 3150 = 74% at 5th level.
8320 / 9900 = 84% at 8th level.

Therefore, the percentage of the scaling item price needs to fluctuate from that 74% up to 84% in three levels. That's +3% at 6th, then +4% at 7th, to 81% of 7th level's Wonder item amount of 7,050gp.

7050 * 81% = 5711 gp. (Jereru, take note - you have over a thousand GP back to spend on stuff.)

Now let's do Ariael's bow. We're going to presume you want to add another +1 (in some form) on to the bow as well, so the next price point would be 9400gp. That'll kick in at the 8th level point as well:

3400 / 4800 = 71% at 6th level.
9400 / 9900 = 95% at 8th level.

That's a 24% percentage jump in only 2 levels, which means your 7th level percentage is going to split the difference - 83% of the chart's 7th level cost (7050).

7050 * 83% = 5852 gp. And at some point next level, it'll become a +2 adaptive composite longbow - or a +1 adaptive (+1 bonus ability) composite longbow.

Once you wrap your head around it, and once some planning gets involved, it'll actually become relatively clear how it goes. This is the 'installment plan' version of upgrading an item, really.

Ack! I'm working on it. Trying to actually find and tally up every conceivable item for a dozen characters for a careful-bookkeeping game is exhausting. I'll have everything finished before the deadline.

Do you want incomplete hero lab files as we build, or just the final completed submission? I do use hero lab, wanted to make sure you weren't already starting to rebuild applications in your hero lab.

Hi Wyrm Ouroboros! I came across this thread last night (haven't perused the recruitment forum in a while), and I'm very interested in participating. I know I'm late to the party and a lot of people have already applied, but even if I don't get picked, I'm going to be following the campaign because the premise has me really intrigued as to where things go.

I'm going to try to get both characters written up by the end of the next weekend. For now, my current concept is that of a half-elf ranger originally hailing from Hymbria in the River Kingdoms. His cohort would be an elf bard hailing from Kyonin. He's headstrong and daring with good instincts, she's a booksmart aristocrat with a love of stories. Both had been adventuring around the Inner Sea region for several years before ending up in Brevoy and hearing about Noleski's proclamation. The two had been thinking on settling down somewhere, and the challenge of founding a home in a wild frontier (that was relatively close to their home regions) appealed to them. Their followers would be friends and contacts they made over the years who are also looking for a fresh start.

Full disclaimer, I'm running my own version of Kingmaker, heavily changed to fit my home campaign (can be seen here), but I like to think that I'm fully capable of separating my OOC and IC knowledge. Also, judging from how the campaign is starting, looks like there are a ton of changes from the base campaign anyways. Also, I've only played a few PbP in the past, and this will be my first one on the Paizo boards.

More like four. With the five in and your advantage, that's 10 possible slots left and 14 in the Built/Building Section. Cut off is still 13 days away. Plenty of time for more to trickle in. The thread is long enough to probably dissuade a few and chances here are higher than most right now. But that is a lot of interest. Here's hoping.

Made some more changes. Added more to Leadership and added a letter that will be part of her reason for leaving. Don't think I have any feats that need a choice and traits are moot. Already have the skills they try and add. Also got some misc gear. Mainly a wagon and crafting tools. I guess I will need to expand those for realism. That and finally gear up the followers. Lyda is out of extra cash but Deneb has a few hundred to get rid of to get under 250. They will be tracked separately under misc.
