Second, I mean can we take a +0 template without spending levels

Follow up question, can we take a -1 template like "drunk" or "young" and take an extra level?

Drunk yes

Young no

+0 or -1 template, build it show me then I will make a call.

Are racial archetypes allowed?

In defense of the 'Young' Template, I've actually used it before, and it can be quite interesting in application. The idea of the oddly insightful or mysteriously supernaturally aware child is practically everywhere in fiction of the genre. I played just such a character once, a 9 year old girl wizard that I introduced as one of the children from the orphanage our group had just rescued, when my own Paladin character had been killed during those same events. It ended up being quite an interesting dynamic, as the group was quite protective of her, and initially quite insistent on excluding her from the group, as no sane set of adults would take a child that age with them on adventures. However, a precocious child, with a genius level intellect, she had no trouble evading the precautions they'd take to leave her behind, and would regularly make herself essential to the team as their only primary caster. It was quite a lot of fun actually.

I was mostly just thinking of the terror +0 template, mostly just to give him a longer than human lifespan,

This will be an Adult game, I am just not happy with a child PC, sorry but no.

I'm reading the Laundry series at the moment, so I might build a Bob Howard type.
Seeing a 7th level Wizard with paranoia: stay out of the spotlight, work by remote, use disguises, the works.
Does that fit the world you're thinking of?
Computer programming would be Craft:Computers, I guess.
Would I need to buy the purl=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/technologist]Technologist[/url] Feat?
What is the skill for Hacking? Disable Device?
Can he have a Familiar and a Spellbook without breaking the 1 item rule?
Can he build magic items (like scrolls and wondrous items) once play starts?

Shadow Lodge

Familiars aren't usually "items"

Yes he sounds great.

You can take a D20 modern feat for tech.
Skills keep it simple
Kn ICT one kills fits all

Familiars, Edalons, Animal Comps, mount are not items as LF2 says

Yes you can make items once game play starts But at the eye watering cost of $20 per GP

Shadow Lodge

Does that also count for my brew potion?

Shadow Lodge

http://www.d20modernpf.com/wealth-and-equipment/armor Many of the armors state Cost $ but do not have an amount listed. Is there another source to find this information?

With the armor look at the eqivalant pathfind and use that as a base gold to $

Post rate, I am going to drop from ALL the games I am playing in to make time to GM just this one. I will check the game at least once a day.

What? No... we're likely to be limited by the posting speed of whichever of the 7 is have IRL problems at the time!

RE: Familiars
Just wanted to check

RE: Crafting
Figured... but yeah, I worked out how CRAZY expensive these items were. On the other hand, sort of makes sense... can you imagine how much even simple stuff would go for? Peripat of Health costs 150000, but that's about right for something in the real world that cures both Ebola and AIDS as a side effect.

Skills: What is the modern d20 feat, please? Are there different d20 modern skills we should be using?

4d6 12
4d6 18
4d6 18
4d6 13
Workable.

Good point

4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 1) = 10 9
So 18, 18, 13,12,12,9
Starting cash 3d10 ⇒ (3, 6, 9) = 18 18x$5000 = $90.000
Working on combining a few favorite clishes.
An ex-bavarian soldier, sold to the british in the war of independence he stayed after the war. In those days he was ordered to pacify a native american village and the village shaman cursed him with his dying breath. Over the years he has been a sailor, a cowboy, a moonshinerunner and many more, usually spending 20 years in one "live" before moving to the next.
Working on the age stick, but thinking maybe lycanthrophy.

I'll take a 23 point buy

money: 3d10 ⇒ (3, 5, 9) = 17

I will have a crack at this. The two games I am in atm are slow enough for me to try a third.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 4) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 2) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 6) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 2) = 10 8
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 4) = 16 15
Well that was horendous. 4pt buy ftw. Guess I'll take the 23pt buy lol.
CASH: 3d10 ⇒ (7, 6, 6) = 19 = 95,000 of the moneys yay.

I think I would like to go dread vampire in the spirit of tru blood. Class will be Ninja. An old underworld assassin mostly hiding in the places sensible people stay away from. Though in eastern europe's not so developed countries.

I want to play him as true neutral(bar the feeding on blood when necessary). A couple thousand years has rounded out the evil edges and now he is sort of wondering what the big deal about immortality is and is searching for something to make him feel good again. Even blood has lost it's edge for him. Maybe there is something wrong with him. The contracts don't do it for him either. The hunt used to excite him. Now a kill is monotonous, boring.

Ok, a few question.

OCCUPATION: Hitman/assassin
WHAT MAGUFFIN: Name and describe one item, bit of knowledge or event you wish to happen.
CONTACTS: Gregori Kosov, Russian Mafia, also vampire, 'friend'. Anastasia Sky, former lover, vampire, keeps him up to date with things that are happening with the world, lives in France.
ENEMY: in progress...

I like the sound of that, remember fluff is where the PC is,

okay, so I've been lurking for a few days while trying to get an idea together, and I think I have one.

In a world where the governments know about "special" people, many of them are in a shadow arms race to create their own, as opposed to waiting on them to occur naturally. My character is the result of an experiment performed on hundreds of homeless people. Something about him was different, however; maybe the gods like him, or maybe there was a needle that was effected by radioactive material. Regardless of the cause, he showed completely neutral to the tests. While incredibly painful, the tests did not reveal the results that the government was looking for, with one exception: He is no longer able to get drunk. Alcohol has no effect on him whatsoever. Spinning it as a radical new and experimental treatment for alcoholism, he never even questioned them about it; he just signed the forms and was left back on the street where he was found, with 200 dollars in his hands and a head clear for the first time since he had crawled into a bottle following a particularly bad battle in the mountains of Afghanistan.

It is hours later that he is approached by a messager bearing a certain letter and package...

Mechanically, he's going to be a Mighty Gunslinger 2.

Sounds like a great idea, and cool back story, make an alt and post a link to it here, I have to ask, will he have a magic item at the start? If not I can have him get one in game at the meeting

Wow it deleted my questions. This is the dread vampire for Highonholywater.

Ok.

1. Would a custom magic item with Protective Penumbra on it be possible to have?

2. Would a custom magic item with Misdirection be possible to have to help hide my undeadness?

So 3d10 x 5000$ to get starting wealth, and each gold is worth 20$ so a roll of 15 would get you 75000$ but that is only 3750 gp. Am I understanding this right?

I am thinking a Wizard/Investigator. How do the modern armors effect spellcasting?

Shadow Lodge

I believe he said that referring specifically for magic items in order to reference their rairity.
Mundane gear, guns, vehicles, alchemical items and whatnot (from what he's said so far) should be standard price

Can we use stuff from the tech guide (it's on PFSRD)

Silver Crusade

Are you looking for a level 7 full-blood human from England? By profession, a nurse practitioner, probably male. A druid who is part of the Neo-pagan movement?

Ok now i realize how rare and expensive magic items are and i can likely only have 1. Could i have a shirt or amulet or something of Daywalking? Basing off of the Protective Penumbra spell?

I think I will drop this, my idea does not even come close to the level of what i am seeing.

Not in the mood for exercises in power gaming to be honest.

That is a little misleading, want I want to say is that Magic items or items a near to priceless in our world of 2007. To have just one is a real big thing and hunters of such things will take note of you have one. There are groups that hunt down such items just to destroy them.

Fire arms are cheap, items for d20 Modern are as costed in $

I think I may have to change the $20xgold for mundane items that you can get in the real world like a Medical pack.

But a MW cold iron long bow is something you just cant get in our world, so the cost will be high.

I am going to think on this and see if I can find a workable solution.

I understand Edward, this is going to be an odd game, some of the PC will have great power, but they will have to show great restraint or be spotted or end up on the most wanted. This game will be as much about thinking a solution that fighting one. EX will be given for being smart and clear over body count.

Alexander Torov wrote:

I will allow you and item that give one race trait, like day walker, but with a time limit per day of 6 hours none consecrative. In that way you can function but you need to find darkness throughout the day as as not to use up all its power.

No, no magic items. He's basically a homeless vet who was made special by the US government (ala MKUltra). He has no life goals currently, and is sober for the first time in 7-8 years.Should be an interesting character to play.

Alexander Torov wrote:

you could change your vampire type, vetala vampires aren't troubled by the sun

Though they have their own problems.
Weaknesses:
Vetalas cannot tolerate the sound of prayers or religious mantras recited by those truly faithful to a good deity. Any character with a good-aligned deity can force a vetala to recoil by dramatically praying as a standard action. Praying doesn't harm a vetala; it merely keeps the creature at bay. A recoiling vetala must stay at least 5 feet away from a praying character and cannot touch or make melee attacks against it. After 1 round, a vetala can fight past its revulsion and function normally each round it succeeds at a DC 25 Will save. The prayers of those who worship non-good deities or worship no deity have no effect on a vetala.

The Game info thread is up, I will moved all the posts here from me about the game to there guys, so we have one linked location.

I am looking into the costs of items, feel free to get stuff but the cost of modern stuff may change, I think 20X$ per gold it a little high for basic mundane kit, but need a list of stuff in $ to replace the pathfinder list in GP.

If there is something NOT on here that you need let me know

Shadow Lodge

Alchemest's fire, acid flasks, liquid ice,
Antitoxin and antiplague maybe,

It seems like Mithral will be a very rare item, has anyone seen information on Titanium items (looking for a light chain shirt) worst case scenario, would use a glamered mithral chain shirt as my magic item; as long as it could fool mundane metal detectors.

I posted interest in a Fey gunslinger gun carrying slayer

Original idea:
A couple of years ago, as I was thinking about the possibilities of mixing genre in roleplaying games and thought it would be fun to play a 19th century gunslinger, someone who had survived the civil war: a revolver and sabre character, someone who had been a scout for the army probably attached to a cavalry unit. Then after the war, someone who was a combination of gambler, con artist and bounty hunter. But I wanted the character to be fey, dark skin, wasp wings and inhumanly fast. But who creates that World? So I put the idea on a shelf, never really built a back story or class.

Idea now:

GM Pandorica (or do you prefer Johnny?) I originally posted interest in a Fey as a godling character or as a prestige class, I’m not convinced of that idea. I like the idea of playing a "retired" Slayer, It allows both good weapons access with rogue. Who is now an art dealer/art thief. His tech skills would be modern but his weapons would be outdated. sword cane, Le Matt revolver... that sort of thing.

back story:

The original scout had no back story, just a present, (which will become part of his back story). I originally posted a Greek backstory, but Greek mythology feels wrong for this characters history.

So I went with Irish folklore instead. I like the Tuatha Dé Danann. Around 513 A.D. he will be left on the doorstep of an early Irish monastery; where he will grow up; average height, thin build with Light skin, red hair, green eyes. As a teenager during some life changing event: fear for his life, first combat, first amorous activity or my personal favorite when he is about to join the “holy church” his faire form will manifest; wings and his skin will change to a deep woad color, the assumption here is that the Celts use the woad color to copy the faire folk. Crunch-wise he will take the change shape special ability.

Our hero will leave (in a hurry) and travel between the British Isles living in different Celtic communities, occasionally spending short periods of time on the continent. He will be a very free spirit with a great appreciation for art and well-crafted items. When he puts down roots he will collect and sell these types of items. He will also, from time to time, pilfer these types of items solely for his own enjoyment, and years later sell or trade them for something new or different. He will also go to war to take up the cause of those struggling from oppression, especially the causes of the Irish, Scottish and Welsh. This will quite often put himself at odds with the English government. When the new world opened up he could not resist the call. He settles in the Virginian Mountains with the Scotch-Irish.

When the civil war takes place he sees it as a matter of states’ rights and fights for the south. As he travels the south he realizes the extent of the evil of slavery and vows to never take up arms as a soldier for government again, he spends several years wandering the west. He returns to the European continent leaving before, or because of WW1, refusing to be involved.

He moves to New York to follow the burgeoning art community and becomes a dealer of arts and antiquities. He follows the “art crowd” or one may assume he influences the “art crowd” to go to the Santa Fe area. Where he is living in comfort when he is sent the letter.

His Nemesis:

As part of his history, he aided and supported resistance in Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I would like to create a nemesis for him that has a similar background to his that did the same for England and then the North During the Civil War. If this is acceptable I would make our hero a heavy investor in southern arms, specifically the manufacturing of the Le Matt pistol. Obviously after the war he will be financially destroyed and no longer involved in the arms business.

His nemesis will also be a Fey Creature born in Northern England who is called a Barguest, because of its ability to change shapes, obviously I’m using a little leeway to create a fairy that changes shape instead of flies. This Barguest will support the English both financially and physically, behind the scene’s similar to how our hero supports the Gallic communities. Most of their conflicts will be through; use of financial resources, providing information and occasionally involving themselves in an important event. Like a chess match, very rarely meeting and even rarer ending in conflict.

When both came to the New Continent the Barguest settled in the north and supported the Tories and our hero the rebels, a rare victory for our hero. After the Barguest re-invented himself he became involved in the expanding industry in the North, looking for a rematch with our hero. The civil war gave him that opportunity. He threw all his weight into a weapons manufacturing company, either “colt” or an imaginary company like “colt” and with the disappearance of our hero at the end of the war the Barguest considers himself the victor.

So when our hero has gotten the letter he has been out of play for 140 years, will this new activity get the attention of his Nemesis: where is the Barguest now? is he still involved in weapons? Is he still in the USA? Is he involved in the Government? Or did he see the evils of his ways and join a Hippy community? Only you as the GM know.

I have not named the character yet it is usually the last thing I do because I want the name to have meaning or relationship to the characters story. If you like the backstory and the Nemesis I will create a character sheet, give our hero a name and contacts; one will be an artist in the Santé Fe area, the other possibly; an employee or assistant (I don’t want to go too Highlander), a business associate (fey or not), or a fellow fey from Great Britain that he has stayed in touch with. If You like the nemesis Barguest and want to name him or flesh him out so I am not too acquainted with him I would understand .

I like that limited daywalking item. Does our 1 beginning magic item come out of our starting capital?

The vetala is really cool but not really vampirey in the way i usually imagine and the mind control and paralysis aren't things I care about.

Speaking of other weaknesses. With the huge pain the comes with lugging around a coffin... My idea is that he doesn't take one with him all the time. I'm wondering how many coffins gey transported solo through air travel. So, what if, when he gets a job to kill someone. First he goes to the city, finds an appropriate cemetary, digs up an old grave one night, disposes of the body somehow and sleeps in it for one day thus making it 'his'. He leaves a small hidden pipe so he can exit and enter in gaseous form. Then he proceeds with the job or adventuring or what have you. He is vulnerable while traveling but hey, what vampire isn't. What thinkest thou?

That is a good call Mithral is Titanium in other words

GM Pandorica: Any opinions on the back story or nemesis?

Shadow Lodge

Gah, they aren't magical, I could right now buy hydrochloric acid... Probably be put on some kind of government list though, hmm.
I can get the acid I need from a car battery.
Liquid nitrogen would have really big containers, and would do way way more than 1d6 damage, 1 splash.
solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) would work better
An arsol can would work just fine for containing that
Ah a maltov coctail does everything alchemist fire but does more splash damage
10$ each, I'll just go with that for fire.

Helikons submission. Work in progress

I think I am going to ask this, I am getting PMs where pos players are asking for a number of things for their PCs

This is the THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY PERSONS

I want players to list ONE and only ONE EXTRAORDINARY thing that thire PC dos, no more warewolf, witch, super smart computer hacker, pick one,
ether your a warewolf, witch or a super smart computer hacker, then build your PC around that one EXTRAORDINARY. I said at the start I will not pick PCs who don't need a party as they can do it all, that's no fun.

Ask this, what is the EXTRAORDINARY thing my PC can do. Its really that simple. That then is the real you PC,

Alter Egos, I want all players to fit into normal world, so have and Alter ego, that you can use, I means to go on the street and not be shot or taken the moment you walk out the door. Not every player will need this for their PC but if you a freak by night best have a day suit that hides it.
