Round 4 Recap
Dakkar's club sent a deep crack across the serpents wooden body as his strike hit home. Emrys' magic hammered in a moment later, driving the serpent further off balance. Balder's flail swept over the attacking wooden man's head, missing as the creature tried futilely to get past the skald's giant sized shield.
Chern blurred forward, his blades striking sparks from the cauldron and gouging long scars in the rusted iron of its sides. Wisps of magic rose from each strike, filling the air with the rank odor of rotten eggs and things at home in a fetid marsh. Orderic suddenly leapt past, tumbling and trailing rope, a lash that tangled the cauldron's stubby legs and toppled the cauldron over onto its side. As it struggled to regain its footing, Chern drove his through the cauldron's bottom, releasing a torrent of foul witch's brew that hissed and bubbled. Chern danced back but a splash struck Orderic, searing his flesh.

Balder will move if its possible to still block Emrys from an attack and flank with the druid on the snake. If he cannot flank he will move to at least try and make himself a viable target from the snake as well. Since that blow hopefully kills it as long as no one is threatening Emrys he will move to flank the snake with the druid.

The Witch's Welcome Round 5 Recap
With the last of his enhanced strength, Dakkar shattered the wooden serpent into peices, chunks of rotten wooden raining all around the massive druid. Balder's flail tore the wooden man into pieces as well and the two stood side by side, gasping for breath.
Emrys' magic drove a deep dent into the cauldron's side. Magic fought against magic, the air filling with sparks and wisps of greenish vapor.
Orderic staggered back, his leather armor steaming, angry red flesh exposed whereever the corrosive goo touched. He raced for the hut and away as Chern struck again and again at the cauldron. One stubby leg flew free and the pot sagged drunkenly. It's jagged mouth yawned open and Chern drove his blade inside to the hilt, burying it in a soupy mass trapped within.
The cauldron collasped, an explosion of magic tearing off its lid and sending it skyward. Rolling onto its side, the cauldron vomited its contents onto the floor of the glade, a mixture of branches, torn cloth, and what seems to be a skeletal figure crushed into the fetal position.

Balder's heart pounded in his ears, his breath ragged. Sweat stung his eyes and matted his hair against his face.
But the fire burned brightly in his chest.
By the light, that was invigorating. He turn head head to look at Dakkar.
Friend, you have good reasoning in a fight. I'm glad someone has some tactical abilities around here. I am genuinely impressed
Balder speaks of word of magic, a deep language of harsh tongue. He shakes Dakkar's hand.

Balder reached into his backpack, rummaging around. He produced a small scroll and held it out to Dakkar.
This one here is for your cousin, we bled side by side my friend. I can help his injuries with this, or maybe you can as well if you've the skill. What a grand song of triumph this will be!
Scroll for Dakkar
Orderic Vitalis |
Orderic arrives at the door to the hut, seeing it still slightly ajar from when the cauldren slipped out in the fight.
Rule number 13. Expect everything is a trap.
He examines the entryway for dangers.
Search for traps (+1 trap finding): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
If Orderic finds any traps then he will attempt to disable them, otherwise he will stealthly slip in the door, remain the shadows and look around the room.
DM_Darkmoon |
Orderic find no traps on the door, itself half fallen off its rusted hinges to allow a glimpse of the huts interior.
Inside, the cottage is dank, reeking, and filled with shadows. Haphazardly hung shelves line the walls, covered in all manner
of clay jugs, clouded bottles, strangely cut rocks, rotted bunches of herbs, and a museum of other crude curios and remnants of a bone grinder’s artifice.
Across from the door, against the far walls, stands a highbacked chair made of wicker, the gigantic curved tusks of some monstrous beast, and
thousands of human teeth. In the chair sits what looks like a corpse wrapped in filthy burial linens, its form padded with pungent herbs and sprouting patches of thick white mold.

The battle over Emrys merely stood staring into space as the two large men saw to their healing.
I've never seen a wooden snake before. It was very nice.
Emrys moved over to the inert creature to examine it more closely.
I used the only magic missile earlier today, unless I lost track of a rest. I did have one other offensive spell in reserve, so I shall subtract that from today's uses, but I was saving it as an mergency surprise, in future, a use of hand of the apprentice at best for an assumed attack please, at least until I have more spells per day. Now I am out.

It's hard to find anything in the cluttered mess, no money, no jewels, nothing to start a fire with. Wait a minute....What's this? Orderic finds a small wooden box under one of the shelves and draped with black cloth, crammed full of crude wooden statuettes, tiny gemstone eyes winking from half-formed faces. He doesn't know if they are valuable, but someone hid them well.
He looked around again, spotting something long, grey, and work-like floating in a jar of brine.....and that would be the Rat's Tail Laurel was talking about....One down, two to go.
Orderic slipped back outside, the box and jar now under one arm.

Straightening he shakily made his way over to Orderic while calling his cousin over to him

Muddy held out the sparkling berries to his new companion.

Upon closer inspection, the mass is quite clearly the skeletal remains of a humanoid of some kind. Tangles of long, grey hair and feminine jewelry of corded teeth would also seem to make it that of a woman, albeit one of advanced years. Emrys noticed one necklace that stood out from the rest, a string of dried wildflowers, the petals marked with stylish grooves and runes of a sort unknown to him, peircing a withered lump of flesh that revealed itself to be a shrunken head, its eyes stitched shut and mouth agape.

The forest's shadows are lengthening before you reach the site of the Eldest Tree. The dense trees and thick brush of the forest give way, parting seemingly in respect for the titanic darkwood tree that dominates this clearing. Several times taller than a temple minaret, in one direction the obviously ancient tree reaches into the sky with branches like a giant’s arms, while in the other it plumbs the earth with roots thicker than a man’s waist.
Its limbs broad and strong, its bark thick and so richly colored as to almost be black, and its leaves the size of bucklers, the giant thing
is less a tree and more a cathedral of boughs and branches.
