As this one comes to a close I have a few questions. Feel free to answer honestly, as I want this game to be equal fun for all.

1. Is the pacing of the game, both in game and in number of posts good for everyone?

--Seems to have a good balance. Apologies for any tardiness on my part :)

2. Is everybody on board for the next adventure in the series? Do you think we need another player?

--Yup, I'm there....another player might be needed with Hakketh's unfortunate demise.

3. How detailed do you want to spend the "down time" between adventures? Would you like to detail the down time, with "Between Adventures" encounters, or whisk through it quickly with a few posts to explain; what you're doing, what you want to purchase, who you want to see, etc?

-- I guess it would me neat to develop Barnabas' hinderances a bit during down time : and Enemy (minor) and Wanted (minor)

4. What can I do to make the game more enjoyable for you?...and conversely what do I do that you don't really like?

-- So far, no complaints in that department

5. Don't forget that regular bennys reset at the start of a new adventure, but gray bennys, and black bennys stay with you.

Thanks for all you guys put into this game. It makes me eager to run even more games.

On that note I'm recruiting for a 5E Tyranny of Dragons campaign on the recruiting section if anyone here is interested.

Hmm, interested but as you're deciding things this evening...My interest would be to check out the Monk, a member of an esoteric order from the far east , Rasheman maybe, witha tenuous connection to the Harpers. However I don't have access to the PHB so I'd need to lean on you for more info. That said, looks like you have a lot of interesteds...

...

Yeah. They're a lot of interest...but I'm scaring off a lot of people by asking them to trust the system, and play with a concept for a while. Many Pathfinder / 3.5 players feel naked without a system to marry their concepts to. They want to see what "mechanical" advantages each option offers before coming up with a concept. I like this because it will help weed out the people who tend to Gish their characters.

Let me know if you're interested, review the campaign info, and I can help you with any further info needed. I have a feeling that there still may be a couple of spots available.

I kinda like how 5e tends to weed out the optimizers a little. It's just funny to see folks flee at the thought of being slightly less awesome than they expect to be.

The new DnD looks really promising. I don’t think I’ve seen anything I don’t like in the basic rules so I have really high hopes for the PHB. I hope to try DM:ing a game on these boards depending on my PbP situation later on.

1. Is the pacing of the game, both in game and in number of posts good for everyone?

For the most part I think the pacing works. My weekends are always super busy for me, too. So I'm actually relieved that they tend to go a bit easier. I suppose I wouldn't mind a couple extra short posts during the week to answer short questions we have. But really even that's just being nitpicky.

2. Is everybody on board for the next adventure in the series? Do you think we need another player?

As I said before, I am absolutely down. I'm looking forward to unleashing these guys on a bunch of baddies. I wouldn't mind an extra player, but I think we can survive as is if we can't find one or two.

3. How detailed do you want to spend the "down time" between adventures? Would you like to detail the down time, with "Between Adventures" encounters, or whisk through it quickly with a few posts to explain; what you're doing, what you want to purchase, who you want to see, etc?

I think a few quick posts to get us through the downtime is really the best way to go about it, unless someone has a particularly pressing sidequest they want to try out.

4. What can I do to make the game more enjoyable for you?...and conversely what do I do that you don't really like?

Hmm... Cultists and slavers. You just can't kill enough of them. :-)

Aside from that, I guess I'd like a few more fights. But it's not like I find all the RP and Investigation boring. I'm enjoying the world.

5. Don't forget that regular bennys reset at the start of a new adventure, but gray bennys, and black bennys stay with you.
Thanks for all you guys put into this game. It makes me eager to run even more games.

Gotcha, Chief. And thanks for letting me in. It's been a blast.

Aquilonian Bounty Hunter, 5 Bennies/ Pace: 6, Parry: 8, Toughness: 9(2), Charisma: 1 0 Wound

1. Is the pacing of the game, both in game and in number of posts good for everyone? Yes

2. Is everybody on board for the next adventure in the series? Do you think we need another player? Yes to the first part. No another player is not needed. However, if a player wants to join, I have no problem with that. The beginning of a new adventure would be a good time to join.

3. How detailed do you want to spend the "down time" between adventures? Would you like to detail the down time, with "Between Adventures" encounters, or whisk through it quickly with a few posts to explain; what you're doing, what you want to purchase, who you want to see, etc? This could definitely be a good place for a quick solitary mini-adventure, but I’m happy to to a few posts that explain the “down time.” If someone does want to have an encounter or two, it’s fine with me. It also might help ease any new person into the game.

4. What can I do to make the game more enjoyable for you?...and conversely what do I do that you don't really like? More enjoyable, I honestly don’t know. For some games, maps for combat are very useful, here I don’t think it’d add that much. I can’t think of anything you do that I don’t like. One suggestion for running combat, maybe have a “timer” so that we don’t wait too long for a person to take a turn. Maybe 36 hours? Something just longer than a day. Didn’t we wait a week once for Hakketh to go? I think I took a few days for a turn as well, so I know I can make some improvements on my end.

5. Don't forget that regular bennys reset at the start of a new adventure, but gray bennys, and black bennys stay with you. Thanks for reminding me.

Good luck with the 5E campaign.

It would help me if you guys would add to your profile your Advance summary. Maybe something like this.

I'll put out for recruitment of one more player. If we don't get the ideal character that's OK, but I would like to have 5.

I'm going to recap the Advancement Rules Here so you can all make sure you're doing them correctly. Pay particular attention to the wording of point #2.

Advances

  • Gain a new Edge
  • Increase a skill that is equal to or greater than it's linked attribute by one die type.
  • Increase two skills that are lower than their linked attributes by one die type each.
  • Buy a new skill ad d4
  • Increase one attribute by a die type (Only can be done once per rank)

Supreme Being wrote:
During the journey topside feel free to make up, or recap an adventure that has happened since the fight in the courtyard.

I'm a bit confused by this. Haven't all our time between the courtyard fight and now been occupied with searching the temple and then delving into the catacombs?

God Infinity........

Yes...but Otto hasn't heard this, and if you can somehow tie in some previous adventures you have suffered through all the better. It's not mandatory, just a chance to practice your storyteller chops with a reward at the end.

Ah, then I get it. I don't have time to add anything tonight but I will probably write something tomorrow evening.

God Infinity........

Everyone please review the advancement rules posted above, and make sure your advances follow the rules.

If you have a d6 STR to go from d6 to d8 in fighting takes (2) advances. To go from a d8 to a d10 takes (2) advances.

A much more efficient way would be.

Advance 1: d6 to d8 in STR
Advance 2: d6 to d8 in Fighting.

The first way your fighting increases by one die for (2) Advances

The second way the same happens, but you also get a d8 for other things.

This is one of the funny things they do to keep d4 swordsmen from being martial artists. The skills are tied to the associated stat.

Aquilonian Bounty Hunter, 5 Bennies/ Pace: 6, Parry: 8, Toughness: 9(2), Charisma: 1 0 Wound

I think I advanced correctly, but let me explain it so if I’m making a mistake the character can be fixed.

The first advance was to raise Fighting d8 (which matched Strength d8) to Fighting d10.

The second advance was to gain a new edge, “Who Am I?”

The problem is to raise fighting from d8 to d10 costs two advances, as you STR is only a d8

Quote:

Fighting and Strength were equal at d8. Fighting increased to d10. I don’t see how this goes against what I quoted above.

Increasing a skill that is equal to or greater than its linked attribute costs one advancement. That means that if your skill is a d8 and your linked attribute is a d8 it costs one advancement to raise it (to a d10). But if your skill was at a d6 and you wanted to raise it to a d8 you get to raise another skill that’s lower than its linked attribute as well.

And fighting is linked to agility, not strength.

God Infinity........

If you increase a skill beyond it's associated attribute it costs (2) Advances. If your Strength were 10 it would cost one advance. Since your STR is 8 and you are increasing your fighting past it's associated attribute to 10 then it costs 2 advances.

I don't agree with you on that :) It costs one advance to increase your skill beyond its linked attribute die.

Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition, Page 43 wrote:

Every 5 points accumulated grants a hero an Advance. An Advance lets a character do one of the following:

Although it is a bit counterintuitive that it costs two skill points to raise a skill beyond its linked attribute die at character creation (and only one for each step up to the linked attribute).

God Infinity........

Patrick. Wow you're right. I guess I was falling back to the character creation rules, and using that logic...

So in other words Septimilius...disregard everything I said above...sorry about the confusion.

God Infinity........

BTW on to the game I fully intend to move things along tonight. Since it's been a while since we've been "above ground" so to speak, I'll summarize a few things.

  • Tigers Eye stone to be returned to gate keeper
  • Book to be returned to shopkeeper to remove curse.
  • Mirian and Septimilius, are still wanted by city watch.
  • For some reason you've lost the co-operation of the gypsies.
  • Otto's brother is waiting for the group at the inn.

I'll probably think of more, but that's what comes to mind right now.

Unless nothing is keeping us in town, I think our party might be looking for employment elsewhere. :-)

Btw, who is keeping track of loot?

-Posted with Wayfinder

Dunno if there is much loot to keep track of. Mirian greedily grabbed the possibly cursed dagger and as much rings and jewels she could carry. Her share of the money will be spent on wine, men and music until she has to take another job. With her legal situation the way it is she would probably try to relocate.

Or perhaps there is another plot hook that can catch her attention before that.

Aquilonian Bounty Hunter, 5 Bennies/ Pace: 6, Parry: 8, Toughness: 9(2), Charisma: 1 0 Wound

Ah, so I screwed up thinking Fighting was linked with Strength. Okay, so to fix this, Fighting goes back to its original value, d8. For N1, Agility increases to d8.

Now for N2, since Agility and Fighting are equal, I’ll raise Fighting to d10.

Sorry for my part in adding to the confusion. The character sheet appears to be fine, right?

As for where the PCs are going next, Septimilius prefers Aquilonia; but a side-track along the way where they end up in Khitai is fine :)

I know I wasn't keeping track of the treasure. Septimilius has the poverty hindrance, so IC he probably shouldn't be trusted with the party's funds, but I can add a spoiler "treasure" spot on the character sheet with the item and the owner. At least to start, unless someone else wants to do it.

As I wrote earlier I don't know how much treasure we would have to keep track of. I've entered the following on my character sheet:

* Potentially cursed dagger
* A sack of graverobbed jewels and rings
* A scroll containing False life, Contagion and Magic Circle against Evil

Opposed Strength rolls to push her. With a running start add +2 to your roll.

Sand in the eyes would count as a trick. That's either opposed agility or smarts. I'm guessing it would be agility in this case, but that will be up to the GM.

-Posted with Wayfinder

God Infinity........

Correct on the opposed Strength... Though she is really strong.

The sand in the eye is a called shot using the Throw skill. Normally this would be at -6 for tiny object, but since a cloud of sand is kind of an area effect, I'm going to make it a -2 Thrown attack instead. She has a high parry FYI as well.

NOTE: The encounter was designed so that there was no room directly behind her, between her and the pit, but this is so cool, I'll have to give you guys a chance to succeed.

Oh, man. I want that to work so badly. But the reality is that it might not since the Toughness of a heavy door is a 10. And I didn't do that even with my raise. No idea what the toughness of the rigged trap was, but if I couldn't even bust a heavy door...

So either way, I am fresh out of Bennies. This either succeeded awesomely or left me very vulnerable.

Okay, so 75 Luna between 4 people, amounts to 18.75 Luna each. But I imagine fractions are a bit of an issue with coins. So how about you guys all take 19, and I'll take 18. I don't really need to purchase anything at the moment anyway.

My wealth goes from 53 to 71 Luna.
