Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Lucian looks around at his Brothers. With little else to add, he patiently awaits the Magos' response to the Kill-Team's questioning.

In response to Brother Xing's questions and new information, the Magos replies:

I do not know how Ahzammi came to find this base, I am not even sure he knew we were here or what is even here. All I know is that he came here against his will it seems, he was a prisoner. No one in this facility had any contact with him I assure you. then pausing a moment to digest the news of a Black Sun appearing in the system, he turns to his controls and inputs a few commands, none of which you are able to make out clearly from your position. I am unaware of any new star appearing in this system, it is most unlikely and unusual. Were it any men but Astartes that proclaim this, then I would dismiss it as madness. But however you have arrived here, it seems there is much beyond this facility that I am unaware of. Regardless, I am sure the Mechanicus and the Inquisition have a response and are dealing with the anomaly accordingly. The Gravitational waves I have been observing have recently fluctuated significantly in the past 6 hours. Whatever the cause, we are not equipped nor prepared to investigate. The most recent fluctuations are only a result of something that's already happened, nothing that would assist in predicting whatever has been claimed to be predicted.

Turning to respond to Deleos, after dismissing two Tech-Priest that leave the Strategium and proceed to some unknown destination, he replies:

This facility is hidden and protected by rare archeotech. Currently we are in the core of the planet, protected by Magma Wards that keep us safe. I am not convinced our security has been jeopardized. I too am most interested in how Ahzammi came to arrive here, did he know something of this facility? Or was it coincidence? There are too many variables to accurately arrive at a conclusion. I assure you the workers in this facility are well protected, the Magma Wards are still being understood, but they have thus far served us well. The entrance you entered through is but one of many, with this facility moving to new corridors that lead to the surface at random intervals. Even if they were able to find the location again, they would only get as far as before, and even further would merely mean to passage straight to the core, surely destroying anything that would near. I thank you for the warning, and I assure you we will monitor the situation. If what you say is accurate, then it would be you and your brothers who are most vulnerable to such manipulation, the men here are more machine than flesh. We do not let emotion dictate our decisions here. I must insist you remain under observation until we have ascertained the risk. You may move freely throughout non-restricted areas, and immediately see to your medical needs once we are finished.

Lastly he replies to brother Varryl:
You are welcome to the data we are currently collecting on our remaining external sensors, I will see that you are given the data as soon as possible.

Now, if you have no further inquiries then I shall continue to look into this matter and contact you when I have more information. For now, Xhenek will guide you to where you need to go and assist with a message to your cruiser in orbit. He looks to Xhenek with a glance that meant she understood what he said and was not to disobey her master.

When everything has been asked and said, then Xhenek escorts you to the medical facilities. Upon entering you see that it is an extensive lab with equipment that can repair and service mechanical and organic alike. Even bionics and implants can be serviced and upgraded by the looks of the facility. Among the large network of cells and spaces that are well staffed with Tech-Priests and menials, a Priest approaches and offers to help any brother and examine any wounds. Should the necessary rites be performed to remove armor, there are Priests standing by that can aid the brothers.

So any Medicae test that would be once a day, is actually once an hour here. Anything that tests a week, would be daily here. Can't recalll everyones wounds and damage, but it'll be taken care of here in no time.

After escorting you to the Medical Bay, Xhenek asks that you remain here while she attempts to contact your cruiser. The Magos would like for you all to remain here for observation and analysis. I will return once I have made contact with your ship or I have further news to deliver.

Feel free to do whatever, ask whatever while here, you'll be here for a little bit while Xhenek is gone.

After the healing she returns::

Xhenek returns with a few hours and does not look as though she is bearing good news. I am afraid there is no sign of a ship or telepathic choir in orbit or in the system. Anyone trying to scrutinize her words or gestures would recognize them as true. She was unable to contact anyone within range and is troubled by something more perhaps. Unable to return to the location your entered from and no known means off this planet or even knowledge of a larger warp capable ship in orbit, means the squad is going to stranded here for the time being. This may not sit well with some of them. What will they do in the meantime?

End of mission:

Not really the end of the mission, but a good intermission. 2000xp for each marine for making it this far and through all that you did. Its been over a year, long mission/game, so nows a good a time as any, and you'll even have some time to work on stuff/gear and/or buy skills/talents you refined during the previous mission. It's by no means over, but you're gonna have to figure out what to do next and/or wait for the Magos to decide. We are officially down the rabbit hole. Hold on to your pants!

While waiting for Xheneks return, the Chaplain will first tend to his Wargear after he made sure someone tends to the wounded. He tenaciously cleans his weapons, reloads his Storm Bolter and surveys his Brothers. Then he speaks prayers of praise and faith to the Emperor together with his Brothers.

As Xhenek returns and delivers her confusing message, he will inquire: "We had serious communication problems from the surface to our cruiser because of some mysterious effect of this planet. Could it be that this 'field' also disrupts your tries on communication and your scanners?"

Some time later, as soon as he has a opportunity to speak in private with the Techmarine of the team: "Brother, we will need your knowledge here. You should have access to their stations and machine spirits. Try to find out what is going on here. I have a bad feeling about this. Maybe this membrane you told us about has something to do with this? Also try to access the communication logs, search for any clue indicating past communications with the Inquisitor."

Then he will try and find a shrine to the Emperor and maybe even someone of the Ecclesiarchy to ask some pointed questions about this facility.

"You're concerns are shared Chaplain. Much of recent events demands answers. I fear the touch of the sorcerer may yet linger with our Brothers. The loss of the Inquisitor in such a way may prove the greater threat."

I'm not sure I did that right...

Brother Varryl spends what free time is alloted between the treatment of his comrades and the repairs to their armors reviewing his recording omeophaega attempting to sort the information and make sense of the parties at play.

"Xhenek. How long ago did the Magos establish this facility? How many surface contact points have your personnel studied?"

Once the others have fully recovered Brother Varryl turns his attentions to the Magos' data searching patterns or any discernible anomalies.

I doubt that helps anything

Investigation if Permitted:

Varryl takes occaisional strolls through the facility without any apparent destination observing the ongoing research as well as reading through various logs in the archives.

Xing spends as much time as necessary to fully heal and inquires about armor repair, though he's not yet ready to relinquish it until he's more comfortable in this new place. He listens to his brothers concerns, but remains silent, gathering his strength and will for whatever shall come next. Finally, when he's up to it he extends his 6th sense and tries to identify anything warp related within the facility.

As Varryl sees to his minor wounds Lucian tends to his wargear, reloading his heavy bolter and maintaining it's machine spirit with the appropriate rites. He waits until Xhenek is out of the medbay before weighing into the conversation with his brothers.

"Something unusual is clearly taking place here. The Mechanicus are secretive, but this is a new level of obfuscation. They tell us nothing of what they do here, they claim that our ship is no longer contactable and they seem unconcerned about the presence of Traitors and warp-fiends in their facility." He looks around at his brothers. "We should do what we can to obtain information directly from this facility without it being filtered through the Magos and his staff."

Xhenek replies to Deleos and Varryls questions:

The barrier is maintained by this facility, one person particularly, and it has no affect on my astrotelepathic abilities. I have been in the Magos' service for 3 years, since my sanctioning, all of that time spent here, often communicating through the barrier. I do not know when this facility was built. I have never left here or been out of the other access points.

Deleos looks for anything that is related to the Ecclesiarchy, but find none. 1d100 ⇒ 58 However, in your search you encounter an area that is restricted, but you are able to catch someone else entering. Its the end of one long corridor, and at a security entrance you see some Tech-Priests enter 1 door only to find another door, and the outer door closes before you can see the second inner door open. There is no indication of what it is, but such protective measures must mean there is something valuable to be guarded.

Somone notices you watching and speaks with you:
The Arming Chamber is a restricted area and only those with the Magos' permission are allowed entry. We are currently searching for munitions that would be suitable in replenishing your weapons. Please vacate this corridor immediately. says the Tech-Priest, waiting and watching for you to move along.

After some time Brother Varryl is given some data regarding the gravitational waves, but they don't really make sense out of context. Its merely a piece of a larger puzzle that you've yet to visualize or comprehend just how many pieces there are.

You are allowed to explore, but not granted access to systems. You could try to bypass security protocols here and access restricted logs and systems, but not without risk of exposure. However, in your exploration of the facility you are able to access and overhear information as you stroll. You learn there is a sealed Archivum only accessable by Magos Klute and some kind of cogitation core at the core of the facility. Though its not labeled as such, your understanding of the Mechanicus and there secretive ways is able to make connections others couldn't, noticing more power and resources being devoted to the core. It also seems to be where the facilities arcane life support system and Archeotech Magma wards are powered and controlled. Peculiar, is the size, small than a normal cogitation core, certainly not enough room to maintain all the systems of this facility with such few Priests to attend to it. Whatever it is, it's surely advanced and non-standard Mechanicus technology.

Xing spends the good part of the day in the Medical Bay, nearly fully healed he extends his senses and finds only 2 sources of Psychic energy. One being Xhenek, who is immensly powerful, much more so than you would have imagined by the looks of the small timid girl. And the second, at the core of the facility, there is something you've never encountered, something immensly powerful that is constantly radiating the same kind of resonance you experienced when trying to discover the entrance. This is the source surely. Beyond the facility is a mystery, as your senses are unable to penetrate some kind of barrier. How could Xhenek penetrate such a field?

Space Wolves Grey Hunter (Tactical Marine 7)

Ulrich likewise prowls the corridors, the Wolf in him does not like to be caged. He spends some time with his fellow marines talking to them, ensuring that their spirits are kept high.

He does not interact any more than necessary with the denizens of this place, already made very uncomfortable by the psyker and the Magos. He does not trust that the psyker has actually tried to contact their ship, despite her very convincing assertions that she has.

Xing let's the medics do their job and contemplates on what he has sensed. When the time is right and he feels he can communicate freely he shares his findings with one or all of his brothers, not wanting to be overhead.

Do not be fooled by that girls looks, she is immensely powerful and perhaps unique. How she is able to penetrate the barrier surrounding this place and the entrance we took is worrisome. Whatever is generating the barrier is located within this facility at the center. She says one man is responsible for maintaining it, which must mean some kind of device. I do not understand fully to what end yet. But be cautious, I do not wish another confrontation, we need allies now. Not more enemies. Tread carefully in these halls, whatever they are doing here or hiding must be worth all this isolation and secrecy. We have a duty to determine what is being done here, for it could be without the sanctioning of Mars. Not even the Inquisitor knew supposedly, which means whoever guided us here has yet to reveal themselves or why. The words of the daemons and traitors still consume my thoughts. I am tired of being a pawn. We alone must determine the best course of action. Let us bide our time and gather what information we can before proceeding.

"After what you told us, Brother Librarian, I think I found an access to the center by accident - or maybe just another hall full of sacred machinery. It was defiantly well protected and they did not like my presence. Told some excuse about an arming chamber and restricted area anyone needs the Magos' permission. Maybe Brother Varryl might get access into that chamber? Or should be try something more ... offensive? I do not want to act harshly against followers of the Emperor but their behavior is ... disappointing to me."

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

"An intrusion on that level feels like something we should work towards. I think we should spend our time trying to gather more information about what's going on here before we begin to push our way in. Varryl, do you think you could link to their cogitators without being detected?"

Within the first day the Marines discover the location of a place called the Arming Chamber, a cogitatiin core, and a powerful psy energy emanating from the core of this facility, and the strategium in the center, but at the upper center portion of the sphere. Ulrich prowls the halls and discovers there is an area that only the magos may enter, its not towards the core.

Space Wolves Grey Hunter (Tactical Marine 7)

While discussing the travesty that is the Traitor Legions with Brother Varryl, Ulrich's thoughts naturally turn somewhat to the things they have discovered here and the nature of the Warp.

Forbidden Lore (Warp): 1d100 ⇒ 35, 1 DoS.

Ulrich's Warp Roll:
Ulrich's recent encounter with the Thousand Sons reminds him of how Technology can be used to manipulate the Warp. Its not only individuals that are capable, but powerful and ancient artifacts alike, that can manifest in unknown ways. While he recalls nothing specific about anything in this facility, he does remember rumors of Xenos creatures having Psy Powers that could hide them in plain sight, manipulating the perception of others. But those tales are more rumor than fact. You have personally never encountered such, though you have heard many tales in your time of service.

Techmarine/Forgemaster Rank 7

"I have often served alongside the Priesthood, you must remember that not all share my beliefs, Chaplain. Many have yet to conclude that the Emperor and Omnissah are one. In the meantime I advise scouting the facility for the purpose of defense. Our enemies have proven themselves tenacious."

-----
Brother Varryl combs the data voluntarily granted to the group, taking particular interest in any material dealing with the function of the Magma Shields or the movement of the sphere. If he can determine the sphere's pattern of movement then he could determine the greatest moments of vulnerability which the squad could then seize upon. Potentially even anticipate the moment they realigned with the magma tube through which they entered.

Hammern - Day 2:

On the second day of their internment, after the marines have established a space of their own and the realization that he lacks key pieces of information regarding the 'vision', Varryl approaches both Brother Hammern.

"I must speak with you regarding our current situation, however our words must not yet be shared."

Varryl leads them to a secluded location believed safe from the Magos' probing ears. Using his internal Auspex he scans for any tansmiting devices. When he does begin to speak he does so in High Gothic.
Teh-Use: 1d100 ⇒ 68 v 90

"Our enemies are better prepared than we previously imagined. I have been blessed with sight from the Emperor. Those who lead our foe march armor clad in black. I have not seen the like since since Lotus Gate last set boots on Cadia and I fear my knowledge of their underlying motives remain a lesser topic of personal study. A study which seems now a priority. The Emperor's gift does not end so abruptly however, there is a name which is spoken with concern, Malice. The gift ends as a Black Sun consumes a system, dragging a group of worlds elsewhere. I fear this gift has caused more uncertainty than aid."

Varryl keeps knowledge of the vision's final moments unspoken, the Mechanicum's ancient sins best left in the shadows.

"I speak of this only so that you may properly assess our status. I believe the Magos most served by continued ignorance. Our Brothers likely know more on these foes though we must assume that privacy is a luxury we no longer possess and inform them accordingly."

Varryl locates Xehenek and attempts to convince her of the importance of full facility access if the marines are to prepare a proper defense against the Traitors.

"Xehenek, inform the Magos I require his attention to a number of security matters within the facility itself. The sheer volume of vulnerabilities within greatly limit the defensive capabilities of our forces and inflate the predicted casualty rate. If I am permitted full access then I can begin fortifying against the coming assault."

If further Denied:

Once the two part ways, Varryl moves to a servitor maintenance bay and begins interfacing with some of the lesser damaged servitors adding subtle subroutines causing them to suffer screeching malfunctions within a certain distance of the Arming Chambers. He then programs a servoskull to enter the Arming Chamber and reroutes its video feed to a Data Slate.

Deleos thinks the offer from the techpriests through while training his body to the edge. "It will further increase my resilience thus increasing my ability to act as the Emperors holy weapon. But it will also mean to disrupt and change this holy body of mine, crafted by HIM with the characteristics of Lord Sanguinius himself... Are they even trustworthy? What do they know of Astartes physique? What if we are attacked while they perform the operation? What if they are heretics, implanting some kind of bomb they can detonate from afar whenever they want to?
After the last thought he will search for the medic that will perform the operation and Varryl.
To the medic:
"Your offer is generous. And I am inclined to accept it but I am troubled with the situation and a mortal performing the operation. What do you know about Astaryes physique. It is significantly different to the baseline human physique. I have yet another concern: The operation is simply additional, not replacing my natural hearts, is it? I will not allow a replacement of my Emperor given physique if not entirely necessary. Finally I want to have a Battle-Brother watch the entire operation." I do this to increase my effectiveness in combat - to deliver the wrath of the Emperor even after a trauma that would otherwise kill me. But I CANNOT die from a simple medical failure or a covert heretic assassination. Will you watch over me? Otherwise I may deny their offer, reschedule it until we make it back aboard the cruiser."

"Brother, would their experiments have had anything to do with the heretical devices that interact with or control the Warp? Do you think it possible that the core of this place could be one such device? Do you think it possible that this Black Sun could be one?"

He considers Varryl's words for several moments, "Who fights in black armor aside from the Deathwatch?"

End of the first day:
During the end of the first day and the beginning of the second day at the facility, Ulrich spends many hours in contemplations, silent prayer to Russ and the Allfather, and in reviewing the events that led to the Inquisitor's death. His own failure burns in him, for the fault in this lies with none other. His was the command of the mission. His was the finger on the trigger.

Later in his meditations, comes the acknowledgment that the Chaos Sorcerer bore no small part of the fault for Ahmazzi's death. That the Traitor was a Thousand Son made the trap all the better.

He comes away from his meditations whole, no longer tormented by his own actions. In looking back on the events, he could not have acted in any different way given what he had known at the time. Therefore, his actions were right and justified. The Inquisitor's death was a tragedy, and Ulrich would pay the price for his part if need be, but he would not shoulder any guilt over it.

The new fellowship developed with his squad had helped Pyros overcome the weakness felt fighting the daemon. Pyros made sure to spend time with each member of the squad over the coming days, sparring with Deleos, on the range provided with Vartas, discussing the nature of the Warp with Xing, adding Adeptus Mechanics rituals to his broad technical forge knowledge with Varryl and talking tactics and command skills with Ulrich. From these, not only did Pyros gain new skills, he also bound himself tighter to the group, strengthening his friendships and giving him a well to draw in times of need.

That said Pyros, did not let the mission fall behind. Spending time around the facility, Pyros used his own knowledge and that learnt from his brothers to dig deeper into where they were and what this facility was. He also tried to see if he could assess the truth told by those the squad had interacted with, but there mechanicum ways and bionics prevented him from being able to read there body language.

The heart is a secondary backup that helps to support your body and can continue functioning should your primary heart fail. I have the necessary background and experience in dealing with Astartes physiology, but your Techmarine is welcome to observe and participate on the machin spirit rituals.

Brother Vartas doesn't see many defenses, it seems the doors can be manually engaged to seal off portions while the main entrance you came through does have some mounted heavy weapons that are hidden. Perhaps other hidden weapons remain unseen.

Brother Pyros has a better grasp of this facility and can recall an instance of a similar one during his Dead Station posting. This particular case was a facility that had been lost for unknown reason, what exactly it was researching wasn't revealed.

Your reflection on the warp gave you the same insights as Ulrich and recollection of rumored experimental device using brain matter of some extinct xenos race to achieve the unknown.

Xings recovery is swift and he sets his thoughts to the information he's gathered, concentrating alone on each task. Also in private he continues to draw blood daily from himself, leaving the wound unattended as a reminder of his faith and purpose.

Xing spends considerable time in contemplation and recovery. He doesn't try to provoke their host in any way, biding his time and training when possible with his brothers to maintain his edge and speed.

The Librarian's time alone reflecting and meditating yields substantial insights into their current situation.

Archeotech:

This place is certainly not purely of human design. Why a facility at the planets core? Very few examples like this facility exist, known to very few outside the Mechanicus. Finally, after rumor, you're able to see with your own eyes. This place is secure and a death trap. Should any magma ward fail, the entire facility would be compromised and destroyed by the magma outside, barely contained by the wards. The wards themselves are a matter of debate, there inner workings only theorized, as to the process by which it negates the pressure and temperature of the ocean of magma you are floating in. Surely should the base be compromised, the fields would most likely be deactivated to protect whatever is being researched.

Warp and Psykers:

There are very few beings that have ever existed that could penetrate the barrier surrounding this facility. You wonder if Azhammi was able to penetrate the veil. The likely hood of two people with such unique abilities here at the same time are astronomical and so unlikely possible, that you begin to question whether the distress call you received was from Xhenek. Such abilities could even possibly penetrate the shadow in the warp caused by Tyranid. You wonder how such a person came to be on this station and why isn't her powers more well known. They could be invaluable to the crusade efforts. How could such a being be merely a pet for the Magos? Whatever her role here, it can't be underestimated or ignored.

Damn you had some good rolls, took me a minute to think about what to give, but you earned it!

"Your concerns are acknowledged. If you would prefer I shall attend and record the implantation for your later perusal. Know that such a betrayal is neither easily played nor mercy permitted to the fool who dares. I shall ensure your procedure proceeds proficiently."

Hammern:

"From a purely theoretical stand, yes. The data I've found suggests no such device yet there are holes in the nature of this archeotech that I cannot explain using known human technology. Again however, Archeotech has never been a point of intense study."

"I suspect they shall reveal themselves soon enough. Until then we must make ready and discover what secrets brought us all to this place."

My goal with that section was a smug told you so. The goal was to get caught with the servitor and servoskulls, view the reaction of security and not get caught planting the virus.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

With little information available about the physical defences from a review of the facility, Lucian attempts to engage with some of the Magos' servants to try to further understand the goals of the facility.

Do we have a liaison-type contact that I might be able to ask questions of?

A few more days pass and the Kill team spends it training and scouting the facility.

Brother Deleos and Varryl spend one of those days in the Medical ward, where Deleos recieves a second heart implant, with the oversight and assistance of Brother Varryl. The procedure goes well and Deleos is up and about by the next day, having made a remarkable recovery.
1d100 ⇒ 33

Just assuming this was what Deleos wanted since he got his request, if I'm mistaken, then you may disregard that Deleos and Varryl.

When it seems like the squad is getting a little too stir crazy being trapped down in these facilities, and the scouting of the facility and interviews of staff become nearly intrusive, the Magos finally requests your presence in the Strategium.

You all enter the same Strategium you had previously, not much has changed, still many monitors seem to be offline. The staff pay you no mind, but when you enter, the Magos approaches.

I trust your recovery and repair of your equipment has gone smoothly here. I know you have many questions regarding this facility and its purpose, and I will address those concerns now. I apologize for your limited access, but we needed time to make sure you are who you say you are. After determing the authenticity of your gene seed and verifying your story, I believe I can now trust you all with an important task.

The arrival of your so called "Black Sun" can not be merely coincidence. I believe it may have something to do with the other facility located within this planets core. You see, our facility is merely a vessel or transport between the surface and a stationary facility in this planets core. Our task has mainly been ovbservation, for even this facility holds wonders beyond our current reasoning and understanding. We have not fully explored or mapped the inner facility. Previous attempts failed, for within the facility lie "guardians." The only intel we have extracted has been basic, our initial teams all lost, with only servo skulls returning for extraction. While I had been contempt to leave the facility untouched for the time being, the arrival of the the "Black Sun" has awakened something within the facility and we are recording new energy readings. I believe something has activated within the facility and I would like your assistance in investigating. Perhaps whatever the Inquisitor was looking for is there. Though how he knew of this place is still a mystery to me.

Got more to add, but figured I'd let you roleplay some of this converstion instead of just dealing it all out at once. I'll be updating quickly to any reply.

After Varryl accepted his plea, he let the magos' assistance perform the procedure and worked hard to regain his battle readiness after the operation was successfully performed. You're right that's exactly what I wanted. Posting was a bit sparse because of university deadlines and exams. Should be better next week.

"Now what are these guardians? You should have received some Intel from the servo skulls? And how do we enter and extract this second base? With that few bits of information, a deep search of an unknown facility seems incredible risky. Maybe we should do a quick scouting first, then quickly return to this base, evaluate what we find and go in better prepared for a second, larger investigation with some of your men?"

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Lucian concurs with the Blood Angel. "Any information you have, no matter how seemingly insignificant, may be vital in our understanding of the facility to describe and it's possible relationship to the Black Sun."

Techmarine/Forgemaster Rank 7

"What type of energy readings?"

Sorry for not updating as quickly as I'd hoped, not many office ours and sometimes my phone eats up long posts.

The guardians are mechanical in nature. Small spider like machinations that are surely xenos in origin. The logs were corrupted by damage and I'm only able to piece together very little from a single Servo Skull that survived extraction. My staff are not soldiers and the servitors pale in comparison to a Marine. It is possible some from the previous 2 expeditions have survived, but it has been nearly a year since we returned there. I have little optimism, but it is a possibility. I am confident you can get further and survive long enough to be extracted with hard intel. We are unable to remain stationed at the facility and the shortest window for our return is 24 hours. Within that time, we will not be able to communicate or provide any support. We have never prioritized inner facility communications in our research, but now I shall make it a priority. After 24 hours, this facility shall return to extract you or re-supply should further investigation be necessary. We are only able to remain stationed at a single access point for 1 hour at most, afterwards, there are protocols that move the facility back into the ocean of magama that surrounds us. Then turning to brother Varryl to answer his question:

The energy readings are unknown to me. We just recently began observing some changes and noticed these strange readings. We are able to observe, but understanding will take considerable time. Whatever you may find could prove helpful in making sense of our observations. Then turning to address the rest of the group again:

This is a reconnaissance mission, your survival and any information you can gather is the objective. I will provide you with whatever resources we have, and I shall permit you to access our arming chamber, perhaps there you might find something more useful to the task at hand than your current armaments. We have 12 hours until we dock, I have already programmed this facility for approach. We shall remain as long as possible, then return every 24 hours until we get to the bottom of this.

New mission, choose your leader and Oath wisely. After you have access to the arming chamber, you may replenish anything at Average availability freely. Any ammunition you used is replenished for your weapons. Magos Klute will escort you there should you wish to ask or inquire further. We may not be there just yet, you may still ask questions and such, just posting this now because I have time.

The Arming Chamber:

Located at the end of a corridor, three separate blast doors protect the entrance to the chamber. You are escorted by Magos Klute himself. Upon entering you might be amazed at what has been collected here. There is a central space near the entrance and from there isles go out in 5 directions, each containing stasis cells that hold equipment. Some things are visibly easy to see, while others will take more investigation.

Magos Klute welcomes you to browse and view some of his most prized possessions, a rare honor to be invited here, though such a large cache of equipment somehow diminishes the overall feel. Is this where the most valuable and ancient of the Magos' collection would be held? There are menials and adepts who endlessly genuflect and burn incense to appease the machine spirits. They do not even recognize your entrance or break their concentration until Magos Klute instructs them too.

Forb Lore: Adeptus Mechanicum:

Your understanding of Mechanicus history tells you that often the most prized possessions of any Mago's would not surely be displayed so easily and accessible to anyone, including their own staff. Often times, a Magos will hide their most important research and finds, hoarding such secrets for themselves and/or hiding anything that would be considered "radical."

This facility has long been a cache of sorts for some exploratory fleets in the past, storing excess equipment and finds on their way. Many of the things here have yet to be fully catalogued or studied. Should you require something specific, please let me know, and I will do my best to assist.

Here you can interact with the Magos, all those tests are at -20, but your disposition could be improved through role play. Simple questions don't require a test, but command/intimidate etc, (something you want to force) will require a test and be penalized unless you improve your disposition with him.

Anyone may make a search test, if you want something specific tell me, otherwise it'll be the luck of the draw what you find. You can spend as much time as you want here, but remember you're less than 12 hours away from departure

Will Xhenek be able to send us telepathic messages once we are inside the facility?

Afterwards, he asks for help in his search, Where might I locate something that can disable machine spirits temporarily? sharing any reply he gets with his brothers.

Lastly, without sacrificing too much time, he tries to browse a a little more for anything Daemonic or Xenos that could help clarify the Magos' disposition towards the laws of the Mechanicus.

Brother Xing has little luck in finding anything he was looking for. In response to his question, the Magos replies:

She should be able to contact you, though there is no guarantee....Yes, we do have s small cache of EMP grenades that I will allow you to take. However, they must be used in only the direst of situations.

After directing some of the priests to retrieve some contents for Brother Xing, he turns his attention to Pyros’ questions.

You have 8 EMP grenades, profile is in Core/ROB

Pyros’ Archeotech Roll:

The Magos eyes Pyros for a moment, then decides to respond. Your Artificer skills are great indeed, I have watched you mold your hammer like few others can who are not of the Priesthood. The machines were anthropoids in appearance. They did not seem to have any ranged weapons, but some of the remaining logs did indicate their ability to digest almost any material, organic and non-organic alike, with surprising speed. I do not believe they will threaten a squad of marines, but who knows what else lurks within the facility. I shall procure our finest Melta weapons available for your team.

Disposition improved for Pyros, -10 test in the future for you and -15 for all others from now on. He likes you!

After screeching some orders in Binary there are some other Priests who emerge from one isles and move down another. They return after a short while, some servitors helping to secure and carry some large containers that only the Magos is able to unlock. There are no markings on the containers, merely numbers.

Magos Klute seems eager to show you his toys and beckons the marines to look and choose if they wish. You see before you two ancient weapons that are surprisingly of Astartes size.

2 Melta Weapon Choices::

1. Firestorm Multi Melta

Unfortunately Pyros’ quick search for any special rounds of ammunition fail. You find some, but not for any weapon of Astartes size and caliber.

After hearing Vartas’ request the Magos assures him that he and his team will be provided with such equipment. However, there is a catch:
I must insist that all data you collect be returned to me for careful review and analysis. Security protocols will not allow any removal of vital information regarding these facilities. Anything you recover will be the property of Mars, we are best equipped to understand and deal with anything you might find.

Needing time to consider the Magos’ words, Lucian takes a walk down an isle in search of anything useful.

After nearly finishing his search, finding little of interest or anything he could understand, a large stasis field catches his eye. The size larger than himself, he moves closer to investigate. Upon full view he is nearly overwhelmed by the site of an Ancient Terminator Armor, fully intact and in pristine condition. It bears the markings and colors of his own Chapter. A true relic to behold. A mystery as to how it came to be locked away in here.

Noticing the incredibly large arming chamber he starts to wonder what exactly this base was supposed to be and what hidden mission the Mechanicum follows with the maintenance of this strange place.
He searches through the chamber silently, observing all the artifacts stored in this place, where they could be of greater use in nearly any other place in the Imperium.
Knowing that his skills with firearms is low compared to his new Brothers - he was always a man of the close kill - he searches for explosives. Such explosives that are easy to apply and quick to arm and detonate. He had used his jump pack together with nearly any grenade in the arsenal of his chapter and the deathwatch in concert for thousand of times - always to great effect.

Finding a lot and nothing he turns to the Magos which is eagerly talking with the Salamander.
"Magos, I am quite fond of my own tools of war, so I would prefer expendables for the coming mission. Any kind of quick-use explosives you can provide, would be of help. Some melta bombs or pre-armed detonation packs together with some special issue grenades, maybe EMP and Plasma? I tried to search for them myself, but I am a bit lost in your big arsenal. Talking of which, why exactly do you contain THAT much firepower in a nonmilitary base with a low amount of garrison troops?" The last sentence is said in the same volume and intonation as those before, just another curious question from someone new to this place ... ^^

Also noting the thoughtful behavior of the Salamander he will turn to the veteran after he finished talking to the magos.

Pyrus:

"Everything all right, son of Vulkan? You seems troubled - concerns about those vile Xeno-robots I guess? What do you think of them? Do you have encountered them before? If so, I would think you should lead our team on this next mission."

"I understand your concerns Magos, but it is also important that we are allowed to review any data obtained. The Ordos may also request access to the data, should it be relevant to their concerns."

Lucian's review of the storage areas is almost fruitless, until he spots a large stasis field. Inside is a pristine suit of Tactical Dreadnought Armour bearing the blue of Ultramar. The pattern marks it out as an ancient relic of his chapter, and yet it is buried here on this out of the way world under the purview of the Mechanicus. Overawed by the sight of the armour, Lucian returns to the Magos full of confusion and determination.

"Magos, tell me how an ancient suit of Ultramarines Terminator Armour came to be held in stasis on this world. This relic should not be hidden away, it should be returned to Macragge, to it's rightful owners. I cannot in good conscience allow it to remain here."

The Magos replies to Deleos' questions and request after he fumbles around, overwhelmed by the size and lack of organizational understanding. Also at about the same time, Brother Vartas returns to hear the response and ask his own question.

Not sure what the +15 from Pyros is? That helping each other search? For my game, I will allow you all to use your Heightened Senses and Helmets sensors to aid you, I've been assuming you would, otherwise, I'd of made it easier.

After barking some more orders in Binary he replies to your questions:

I will see that you have some Melta-Bombs, but you must be careful not to compromise the structural integrity to greatly, thus you might damage the Magma Wards and collapse the facility entirely. I will trust your Tech-Marine to make such a call. Shortly after some Priests return with a containers containing some melta bombs and another with some controlled explosives. They are individually stored, each requiring ritual to open and retrieve. As the priest open the boxes, Magos Klute responds to the questions regarding the facility.

You are provided with 4 melta-bombs, and some other smaller controlled explosion devices, can't remember the name, but I know its in a book. Imagine C4 that can be used in a controlled manner on smaller things like doors, locks, etc. Whoever finds the profile let us know, I'll try to look at the books later, but for now, I won't be really counting the AP in places you're likely to use small explosives, it'll be more narrative.

In regards to this facility, it has become a vault of sorts for Exploratory fleets incoming or outgoing. Our re-supply is directly from Mars, so often this is the fastest way to secure and handle sensitive artifacts. Our acquisition of this facility did not come without cost. We had an escort of Marines, and unfortunately not all survived the initial encounter in this system. We were met with Eldar who raided our ships and nearly overwhelmed us. The DeathWatch marines fought valiantly and in a last desperate attempt, rammed a ship into the Eldar fleet. That ship eventually crashed landed here and in our recovery, we discovered these facilities. The Battle won, the Mechanicus could not hold this position, and we believed it unknown to any other races. I was assigned to remain here and oversee this facility along with as much staff and security that could be spared. The fleet left much of the equipment and weapons of your Astartes brothers here, to be returned when we are resupplied and re-staffed. Unfortunately the first ship sent to here was lost in the Warp, and another raided and destroyed by Chaos Marines. Currently there is a larger and more powerful fleet being assembled to come to our aid, if it arrives, then most of what you see here will be transferred.

Pausing a moment to the let this sink in. He notices Brother Vartas return and addresses his questions:

One of these melta weapons is designed for that terminator armor you found. I have taken my own personal time to restore it to its former glory, after the former bearer, a Seargent Scipio, fell during the battle. His sacrifice was not in vain, and I chose to honor him and the Ultramarine's as best I knew how. I believe you to be a suitable bearer for such an artifact, and it could prove useful in the facility below. Should our resupply or other secure means of transport arrive, you and your brothers may take possession of the Astartes artifacts here and deliver them to whomever they belong.

The Squad has access to the Terminator Armor for this mission if you wish. There is the multi-melta with the proper couplings and can attach to the armor with ease. Other weapons you have could easily be adapted if necessary, but not all.

Lastly, the Magos has one other piece of important information:
I was also entrusted with the Gene-Seed of your fallen brothers, and I shall allow you to have those as well.

1d100 ⇒ 79

Ulrich's exploration and senses lead him to view many xenos weapons of Tau and Eldar origin. One area does catch his eye, and after closer inspection, he is stunned to see such a sight. A Fenrisian Wolf held in stasis. Upon closer inspection, he can see its not without modification, mechanical modification to be exact. What and how are among the many questions Brother Ulrich surely has.

Ultramarine Devastator (Rank 7), Deathwatch Keeper

Lucian is taken aback to hear the reverence in the Magos' words, if not in his emotionless voice. "Your care of this artifact does you great honour Magos. On behalf of the Ultramarines and all who wear the blue of Ultramar, I thank you for your work. I would be honoured to wear this armour into battle, and I hope that I can do the memory of Sergeant Scipio justice."

Now to look up the rules for Terminator armour!

Deleos listens quietly, as the Magos retells the story of the base and the origin of the artefacts. Then bows a little after he ended. "That, I do not knew, Magos. My apology if I have gone to far, but I do not appreciate to be kept in the dark. As Brother Vartas, Son of Roboute Guilliman, already said: Your actions are most honourable and appreciated, be ensured that the Chapter of the fallens and those who own these assembled artefacts belong to, will hold your name forever in honoured memory. He let his hand gently rest on the shoulder of the Magos, beaming at him with pride and joy in his angelic face. Charm seems appropriate? 40: 1d100 ⇒ 34

Space Wolves Grey Hunter (Tactical Marine 7)

Ulrich approaches the wolf in stasis, his words slipping from his usual High Gothic to the dialects of his native tribe on Fenris. What are you doing here, proud one? What path brought you here?

After several minutes standing nearly nose to nose with the wolf, Ulrich turns and strides back through the armory to where the Magos and his brothers are gathered. His voice is even, polite, and inquisitive, but there is a deep undercurrent of emotion running through it, "Magos, you have one of the wolves of my homeworld in stasis in your vault. I would request the story of how it came to be here." As he speaks, his left hand reaches back as if to grasp something that hung there and is no longer where it should have been. He freezes and his pupils dilate as he realizes the full import of their inability to contact the ship that brought them.

The Magos, though visibly unchanged, feels great pride and honor in the Marines words. As trust grows he is opening up and more inclined to help and offer aid. Deleos attempt at charm is difficult, but slightly effective. Having the Magos on your side will serve the team well. Disposition improved for the squad, all interaction tests at +0.

As brother Ulrich approaches with his question he summarizes what he previously shared with the others. Additionally he adds, Pardon me, I would have mentioned her sooner had I known you were a space wolf. Your Black Shield armor hides your true heritage as did the Ultramarine. That wolf belonged to a Rune Priest who also fell to enemy forces, I found the wolf among the wreckage, barely alive. I took it upon myself to do what I could to repair the damage, but she was badly injured and beyond my ability to heal. I took it upon myself to enhance her weak flesh and enhance her biology with the aid of the machine spirits. However, once fully recovered, she would not bow to any son of Mars. I feared for her safety and that of this station, placing her in stasis. I had considered more intrusive implants to guide it's mind, but I didn't have the necessary chemicals. If you are a Son of Russ and hail from the same homeworld, then perhaps you might be able to command her.

Ulrich, you may attempt to wrangle and gain her as a follower, DOS and RolePlay will determine her loyalty. Xp cost is 500.

The Magos continues, Much of her biological systems have been replaced, in what may be a first of its kind, it can survive and remain agile in almost any environment, including a the vacuum of space for a short while. Also it has been armored and retrofitted to be more effective I'm combat.

If you choose to take this follower then I'll provide you with a detailed profile, she's yours to command, if you don't wish to purchase, then you may use her temporarily for the next mission and I'll control her. Up to you.

If you would like to try and wrangle her into submission, then I will deactivate the stasis field in a more appropriate location. says Magos Klute to Ulrich.

Just trying to speed things along, you may RolePlay it as if it happens, either way you decide to go about it.

The Magos concludes: I believe you have what you requested for this mission, I suggest we see to finalizing our approach and whatever personel you desire to aid you in your investigation.

That's it for here, took a few hours, but you got 10 left before you drop. Get your leader and oath finalized, I'd like to begin I'm 24-48 hours if not sooner. [/ooc]
