Whilst two of the machines continue to stutter and fail, this latest addition to the fight comes crashing out of the southernmost chamber... and, whirring up to full speed, slams into Yasmin with terrible force...

Barely quick enough to avoid a powerful slam from the newest machine, Yasmin takes a step back from the battle, then conjures a wall of ice to block the northern flank. It is 40 feet long and 25 feet high. There's still a way around or the enemy can try to break through, but it could at least buy some time.

The sound of hammering and smashing from the other side of Yasmin's wall of ice grows ever louder as the momentarily malfunctioning automata return to operation... hearing the threat before the first of the metal fists crash through the ice, Grayface moves to the centre of the chamber... and waits with sword ready...

Yasmin sends a blast of ice through the gaps in the ice wall, first toward the farther-away automaton, then curling back into the nearer enemy.

Ea delivers another flurry of blows, lacking Rallos precision or Titania power


Emerald Automaton 1 and 2 virtually finished by the attacks of Yasmin, Titania and Ea - going to GM handwave them being defeated by Grayface's flourishes...

Between them, the group are holding off the waves of automata - Yasmin moves away to assist Titania; her frost smashing into the machines and slowing them enough to allow Ea, Titania and Grayface to destroy them. Meanwhile, on his own at the south of the chamber, Rallos' bladework cuts through the remnants of the automaton's armour... and sends it crashing to the ground...

Almost inevitably, the birthing chamber's whirr into life and disgorge another pair of automatons...

Emerald Automaton 5 and 6, (+2 to stats and Energy Resistance - Cold 10)

Tot lets out a stream of curses that get increasingly creative and colorful as she steps through the gap in the barrier to take care of the automaton just beyond it. Her blade flies through the air in graceful arcs as she hurls insults at the Steward and asked how much longer this was going to take.

So is automaton 2 dead? It is still standing on the map, but the game text suggests it died.

"How much longer is this going to take, Steward? The stream of enemies keeps coming, and I don't have much magic left in me!" The sorceress fires a stream of force missiles toward the new enemy appearing to the south.

Casting Magic Missile at Automaton 5. Yasmin is down to a 3rd level spell and, after this casting, 3 fist level spells.

Apologies, I left it up there by mistake when cutting and pasting some new automata onto the map. Automaton 2 is dead... deceased, it is an ex-automata... it is pushing up the daisies, etc. Oh, and it looks like the same goes for Automaton 6!!!!

Titania, moving to a position where she can prevent the automaton moving into the chamber proper, starts to weave her sword swings into a lethal pattern - again and again, her blade connects with the armour of the machine... metal upon metal ringing out as if it were a hammer upon an anvil. Fizzing and popping, this new automaton jerk slowly towards a halt...

Automaton 6 is at zero HP and disabled.

At the other end of the chamber, the second 'birthed' automaton - wreathed in electrical currents - is also showing signs of grinding to a stop...

Sorry, it's been full on at work (managed to deliver the work that was needed though so back into a chilled and relaxed few days!!!) so I've been struggling with daily posts!!!

Ea, stepping forwards, ends the last of the automata... yet, once more, the machines to the north and south burst into life - and once more, a pair of verdigris armoured constructs step out...

...immediately on the attack, they pummel into Rallos and into Grayface. Whilst, behind them, the birthing chamber seem to be clanking and whirring with increased vigour...

Greater Invisibility lasts 9 rounds and was cast in round 2. This is round 6, so there are 5 rounds remaining. Haste was cast prior to combat, as Yasmin pre-casted it before the door opened and Titania dashed inside. I estimated that two rounds passed before combat began--if so, Haste lasts 7 rounds. So it expires at the end of next round

Excellent... and the way I read it, Rallos gets a +2 to Attacks whilst Invisible - meaning he hits twice this round...

Also - let's retcon a Concealment check for the last attack on Rallos.

Rallos, Total Concealment (50% miss chance): 1d100 ⇒ 23, missed.

So actually, I have a different suggestion for Ea from Rallos's.

"Ea, step a little closer to me so I can catch you with my magics!" Yasmin is casting Haste again. If Ea can step back, everyone will be within 30 feet of each other and will get affected. If Ea doesn't step back, I'll need to exclude her from the effect to catch the rest of the party.

"I'm nearly tapped out of magic, it's up to you guys!"

She does draw a Wand of Infernal Healing and take a step closer to her allies.


Rallos and Titania, with the measure of their opponents, heft their weapons into... and through the automata. Crunching to a halt, the machines stop their assault... yet, even as they do so - and despite Titania's efforts, the chambers burst into action once more...

The Steward, left upon the plinth next to the Spire, reassures the friends that he nearly has the Creche under his control, "Ahhh, that's it... just in there, if I can just.... oh!!!" The little exclamation hangs in there before he speaks again, 'his' voice somewhat changed,"WE ARE THE RECLAIMERS!!! WHAT HAS BEEN DONE WILL NOT BE UNDONE!!! THE IRON CRECHE IS OURS... Titania's smashing of the structures didn't, despite her best efforts, appear to halt the arrival of any new automata... if anything, and maybe this is associated with the sudden change in the Steward, the rate of creation is greater now...

However... heading over to the 'Damaging Objects' part of the PRD, let's start applying those rules as that's the way you folks look like heading...

Titania's blade comes down, again and again on the huge machine - the first of her blows had seemed so insignificant given the thickness of the iron here... yet, even as diamond must surely shatter given enough insult, so too does the metal structure start to bend and yield...

No need to worry too much about hitting the Structure, anything other than a '1' will do!!! And, from a Hit Points perspective - Titania's blows have nearly rendered it defunct.

Meanwhile, after TItania has sliced through the fundamental workings of the largest chamber - rendering it inert, she turns her attentions to the automaton closest to her... her blade, after being parried on her first strike, cutting into armour...

Calling on Pharasma's blessing, Ea puts her hand on the structure, hoping her goddess will impart her with her knowledge and tell her how to stop that *&!!*** machine.

Honestly not sure if that could work:Lore Keeper (Sp): You can touch a creature to learn about its abilities and weaknesses. With a successful touch attack, you gain information as if you made the appropriate Knowledge skill check with a result equal to 15 + your cleric level + your Wisdom modifier.(total 28)


Ea / Yasmin - the machine seems to be intrinsically linked to the Spire, if there were anyway to disconnect that link then it is likely that the genesis chambers would be rendered inert... unfortunately, there is no obvious way in which this link could be severed. It is fortuituous then that the Steward, having been wrenched free from the control panel, appears to be regaining some level of sentience, "Wait... Wait... Wait... Re-Initialising..." - the metronomic voice seems to have some of the Steward's vocal inflections...

The Steward will, once it is restarted next round, be able to ask for assistance - A PC can assist by spending a full-round action and attempting at a DC 23 Knowledge (arcana) check or DC 25 Disable Device check. This will accelerate the process of the Steward regaining control of the Creche...

Heightened Awareness:
You enter a heightened state of awareness that allows you to notice more about your surroundings and recall information effortlessly. You gain a +2 competence bonus on Perception checks and on all Knowledge checks that you are trained in.

If this spell is active when you have to make an initiative check, you can instantly dismiss this spell and gain a +4 bonus on that check.

Yasmin's oft-forgotten genie familiar appears. "You've got to be kidding me, how do I stop giant robots?" Hakan nevertheless dutifully takes a spot to the south and prepares to breathe on whatever enemy comes through.

Acid Breath Weapon: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Reflex DC13 or sickened, though I doubt these things can be sickened.
