Hey guys....just a heads up. I will be a a mini gaming con this weekend, so I might not be able to post much. Feel free to bot me as needed..just don't get me killed, ok? The upside, I get to tell Ed Greenwood how much I hate his idea for spiders in this module. He should get a good laugh out of that....
One of my gaming buddies worked at WOTC for a long time and she tells me hilarious stories about the "big names" of the D&D universe. My favorite story is one where she got Sean K Reynolds "arrested" at Gencon by a group of angry Klingons... :-P
Posting in all my campaigns...I'm sick as a dog with the flu today and yesterday, which is why I didn't post anything. It's a really bad flu so I'm trying to rest and recuperate as much as I can but I will try to get everything up to speed this afternoon if possible. Thanks for being patient with me :(
My apartment flooded at 2 AM this morning...I'm beyond overwhelmed right now :'( Please don't expect anything of me today and possibly tomorrow. I will get back up to speed ASAP.
Indeed. I am still relatively new to the PbP universe. I started my own campaign last year (which is going very well!) and I've now only got one game I'm playing in -- this one. (I had a couple others that fell apart for various reasons)
I remember seeing The Emerald Spire-Superdungeon advertised on this website, but other than the name and the cover art I knew nothing about it. Very soon after release I saw the recruitment thread for this game pop up and I got really excited.
I am very much enjoying this game GM. *raises a glass* Here's to another 2000 posts!
GM Zed,
I was just looking at the rules for aquatic combat and I think I made a mistake. It says that slashing/bludgeoning weapon attacks are at -2 to hit and deal half damage. Therefore I think my 10 points of damage should probably be reduced to 5.
Though flavor-wise, it seems odd that the same penalty applies to someone completely submerged and to someone wading in water, considering much of the blow is a downward chop through air, not water. But that is just rules commentary; rules are what they are. It would get too complex if there were more stipulations.
Yep, I was aware of that...FWIW, I forgot to factor in a -2 to the Eel's AC last turn (from charging) so it was more injured than I had previously thought...and hence your half damage still kills it... Hooray!!!
Is the mephit we are fighting fully underwater, or just partially?
1. As I understand it, if I target a partially submerged creature with a spell targeting reflex, that target gets a +4 to the reflex save. If the save is successful, does the target still take half damage?
2. If I cast a fire-based spell on a partially submerged creature while I'm only thigh deep in water, do I have to make a caster level check, or can I just hit the portion of my target above water without a check?
Yasmin - 1) I don't see any reason why there wouldn't be anything other than half damage - it is a bonus to the Reflex Save, nothing more...
2) I don't think you should have to make a concentration check - the reflex save bonus / AC already take into account the effect of your target being in water... And you are just thigh deep...
FYI, the Mephit is not fully submerged - unless I say it is...
All, note that there is a snazzy cross-section of the Emerald Spire in the Campaign Tab now – hopefully it will inspire you to delve deeper and deeper – look at all of that unexplored black space beneath you!!!
And, whilst we are talking about being inspired…note that the ‘Drowned Level’ is definitely a challenge – if the first three levels were playing to the ‘traditional’ themes of goblins, creepy undead filled cellars and an outlaw’s hideout, and the fourth level was something a little alien (and well RP’d through by yourselves), then this level is the first time that you have come up against ‘environment as antagonist’…
I probably should have taken more healing before we proceeded. With wands of CLW in our possession there is no good reason for me to be walking around at 2/3 health, as the party's primary "tank".
I'm happy to RP most of the requests but can I beg the favor of Ea and Pertreeko that you two please try to be cognizant of party health? (and in particular, my health)
A few unsolicited taps of the wand out of combat would be extremely appreciated and well received!
I'm not pointing fingers here. -Just making a friendly request for the future.
Note that Water Elementals have a Drench ability to put out mundane fire / dispel magical fire as per the Dispel Magic spell – I ruled that the elemental could have attempted to ‘Drench’ a fire-based attack however it would have to have been as a readied action…
And, FYI, they are not specifically vulnerable to fire
