Steel Wolves - A Mercenary Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master Mark Sweetman

The Steel Wolves are a squad of the mercenary company the Blood Hawks. Currently stationed in Kalabuto, though the jungle calls....

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Kaavel places his weapons on his fists before following Blaze to the wagon.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Sentis moved in at Sunny's gesture with his scimitar drawn and Baran a silent shadow at his side.

Perception - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Minor Crab-beast

The squad moves towards the wagon directly with weapons at the ready. As you reach close to the wagon, the ground becomes more treacherous and falls away beneath your feet...

Sentis and everyone else who rolls less that 25 on Perception will need to make a DC 20 Reflex save or suffer 1d6 falling damage.

Perception DC 25:
You are able to spy the sinkholes before you step blindly into one, though are unable to rescue the rest of the squad from their fate.

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
falling damage 1d6 ⇒ 3
I hate this dice roller.

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Well I did not see whatever is happening.

Reflex:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Missed it by 3.

Fall Damage:1d6 ⇒ 3

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

lousy Dm sees my perception roll of 24 and then sets the DC @ 25 ;)

Minor Crab-beast

Well I was going for 24.001 but I thought you might get suspicious :P - it's actually a fresh check for you Grusk as you've moved from the previous position where that check applied.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Perception can't make it even on a Nat 20

Could I make a Acrobatics check, or must it be a Reflex save?

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

DC 25 is impossible for Doc. I'll just roll Reflex.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

if Stable race ability applies then I make it. Is this considered a trip of knock down effect?

Minor Crab-beast

Blaze - Reflex only, though I'll let you get a +2 bonus on your Reflex save if you make a DC 20 Acrobatics check.
Doc - I'll let stable race work on this one, so you don't fall in the sinkhole.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 Acrobatics
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 Reflex

Blaze deftly dodges the sinkhole he almost fell into "Well that could have been unpleasant, where in the Hells did these things come from?

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Doc slips a little, dangerously close to falling in and simply drops his knees a bit and plants a hand on the ground.

"Bah. Sinkholes. 'S like bein' back at home. Ever'one alright?"

Minor Crab-beast

The party now separated between those that have fallen and those that remain above does not have much time for respite. An ominous sounding clacking can be heard echoing within the tunnels that some of you have fallen into.

Initiative Block:
??: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17
Sentis + Baran: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Doc: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Darkbiter: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Blaze: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Kaavel: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Grusk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Action Tracker (Round 1): Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk, ??, Sentis + Baran, Doc

Ok - here's the layout, those above are still in open (though roughly broken up) terrain at the edge of a 10ft wide pit.
Those below are at the intersection of a group of 10ft wide tunnels that snake outwards from where you are.

Perception DC 20:
You pinpoint the clacking as coming from the NE, E and W tunnels.

Male Wolf

Perception - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Reflex - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Baran yelps as he barely escapes falling down into the sinkhole that he didnt notice.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Sentis couldnt believe that he missed seeing the signs of the sinkhole. This was a common danger in the jungles and he had let his guard down.

Acrobatics - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Reflex - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Fall Damage - 1d6 ⇒ 1 HP = 22/23

It wasnt gracefull but the half elf was able to slide down the sinkhole's edge and avoid the brunt of the fall. He now found himself in a tunnel of sorts and that probably meant critters.

Perception - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

You guys all right? DO you hear that clacking sound? Id say we are not alone down here and I imagine we'll be getting company after that commotion we just caused.

He picked up his scimitar and readied an attack if anything surprised him.

Attack - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Damage - 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Stupid dice roller

Dark gets up after falling on his rear end, silently cursing, and draws his sword.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Reflex save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

"Hey......."

fall damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

".....a hole well I am tha official tester....."

Perception
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

"Don't jus stand around throws us a rope!"

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Kaavel looks around in the hole before looking up. He says "I hear it Sentis."

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

The Keleshite looks to his Dwarven friend "Well Doc, looks like its up to us to go and save the less graceful Wolves." He says with a chuckle, then leaps down the hole. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 landing easily. He looks around at the various tunnels 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6. "Alright Wolves, what sort of trouble must I rescue you all from this time?"

Aren't you all prone unless you make a DC 15 Arcobatics check? Or is that only if you fall more than 10ft?

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

Doc digs a rope out of his pack, tossing it down to the others and looking for something to secure it to on the surface.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Grusk secures his bow, thinking tight quarters will not be good for archery. The greataxe will be really heavy to climb, so he goes with the morningstar.

Minor Crab-beast

Bursting from the walls around you are three large insectoid creatures. Low to the ground and with powerful mandibles and digging claws they chitter and clack their jaws as they move to attack.

? #1 on Blaze: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 for 2d6 + 4 + 1d4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 4 + (2) = 16 and Grab: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
? #2 on Kaavel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
? #3 on Grusk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Kaavel and Grusk escape their attacks, but Blaze is not as lucky. Jaws closing crushingly around his waist, acid spills from the beasts maw and starts to eat away at the Keleshite.

Action Tracker (Round 1): Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk, ?? Sentis + Baran, Doc

Knowledge Local DC 14 or Nature DC 14:
The creatures assaulting you are ankheg. Powerful burrowers and native to the plain you are traversing. They have an acid spit that melts the flesh from your bones.

At work, so map not possible right now. Assume round 1 - no flank unless you use acrobatics, round 2 - flank possible.
The creatures are size large - but only have a 5ft reach.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Hang on a sec, is my jumping down my full rounds worth of actions? I was planning on casting Mage Armor, but wasn't aware I had used up my actions, as it seems jumping is a move action, while the Acrobatics check is a non action.

Minor Crab-beast

We had gone to Initiative and you'd posted an action without stating that you were holding anything in reserve - so in this case yes, you'd used up your full allotment.

Gods dammit, I posted that last post via my cell, and for some reason your post with the Initiative rolls never showed up. Same thing happened with a my post as Gathroc yesterday. Not your fault, just lame that I'm near death cuz my phone's internet acts up.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Knowledge local
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"Watch out tha spittle is worse than Doc's beard after he's been drinkin an whorin all night. Don't let em get yah!"

"Blaze wern't yah listen!"

Morningstar B/P
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Damage
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Sentis wasnt sure what just happened. All he knew was that some beast had Sunny by the guts in it jaws and its didnt look good. He knew he had to get into a better postion to assist.

Acrobatics - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

as he dodged around the thing he tried to tell what it was.

Knowledge/ Nature - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

By the Green Faith! I dont what these things are!

He lashed out to kill the thing that was gripping Blaze

Attack - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 +2 flank

Damage - 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 + 1d6 ⇒ 5 flanking

Crit Confirmation - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 +2 flank

Crit damage - 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Minor Crab-beast

Grusk is unable to land a strike, but Sentis has better luck.

Dancing around the overgrown insect that it assaulting his squad leader, Sentis blade flashes out and carves it's way through one of the creatures legs entire. It still maintains it's grip on Blaze though...

Action Tracker (Round 1): Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk, Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc Don't forget those who act before the ankheg in Round 2 can post up their actions as well.

Damage Tracker:
Ankheg (Blaze): 19

Male Wolf

Baran had heard the stories of cubs that had jumped down into pits like these and it never ended well. He stalked the edge and barked again and again.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Oi! Dibs on th' acid an' the car'pace! Try not t' crack the shells!"

Holding the rope he was about to toss Doc yelled out for Blaze. "Grab on! We don' want that thing yankin' ye under!"

Toss Blaze a loop of rope and secure the other end as much as possible.

Minor Crab-beast

Darkbiter looks between the oversized bugs that have attacked and looks to free his stricken squad leader.
Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 3 = 11
...but his blade does not find purchase on the bug's chitin.

Action Tracker (Round 2): Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk, Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc

Blaze - if you choose to attempt to escape the grapple, you can use Doc's rope to give a +2 bonus on either your CMB or Escape Artist

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Kaavel goes into his fighting stance before moving in to attack one of the bugs.

Attack and Damage Roll:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 261d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze attempts to struggle free of the creatures grasp, using Doc's rope for help. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Grapple check.

Minor Crab-beast

Kaavel lands a solid blow on the ankheg that attacked him while Blaze is able to extricate himself from the ankheg's jaws.

Just Grusk to go before the big bugs get another shot.
Also - Blaze has a move action to take if he chooses to.

Action Tracker (Round 2): Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk, Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc

Damage Tracker:
Ankheg (Blaze): 19
Ankheg (Kaavel): 9
Ankheg (Grusk): 0

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

If I want to move out of the reach of the Ankheg, do I need an Acrobatics check to avoid an AoO

Minor Crab-beast

You can 5ft without, or take a full move with (and risk an AoO).
Looking at the beastie, he's a bit more interested in your compatriot who buried a scimitar to the hilt than you right now.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

"I hate bugs in mah breadbox!"

Morningstar B/P
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze will step back slightly in order to be out of harm's way. 5' step

Minor Crab-beast

Grusk's bug-squishing star bounces off the ankheg's thick chitin leaving the creature undamaged.

The insectoid so cruelly struck by Sentis turns on him, whilst the others continue their assault on their original targets.
Ankheg on Sentis: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Ankheg on Kaavel: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Ankheg on Grusk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
...though biting jaws do not close on flesh this time.

Action Tracker (Adjusted - R2/3): Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc, Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Grenade out." Doc says, lobbing a shell down into the mess of bugs and people.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 touch attack

2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11

Splash 5 points, DC 14 for 1/2. Aiming to put the splash damage on enemies not friends, If that means I can only catch one of them that's fine.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Baran continued to pace around the pit barking at the beasts. He was tempted to jump down but feared snapping his legs.

The lithe druid easily evaded the bug's pincher attack and swung his blade again at the thing.

Attack - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Damage - 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Minor Crab-beast

Sentis is unable to match his first strike, the scimitar bouncing off ankheg chitin - however he does have the sense to duck when he hears Doc's voice from above...

A grenado sails into the swirling melee of bugs and explodes directly below the ankheg that so cruelly scythed it's jaw around Blaze's midsection. A wet thump sounds out and the ankheg drops to the ground stone dead. Some of the blast splays out sideways and catches a second ankheg...
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 and 1d2 ⇒ 2

Darkbiter's blade rises and falls once more, seeking to strike the ankheg that has beset Kaavel...
Greatsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 6) + 3 = 13
...slicing through it's hide as though twere butter.

Action Tracker (Adjusted - R2/3): Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc, Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk

Damage Tracker:
Ankheg (Blaze) - dead
Ankheg (Kaavel) - 22
Ankheg (Grusk) - 2

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Kaavel looks at the bug before moving in to throw two quick punches at the beast.

Flurry of Blows:
First Attack:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Second Attack:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Minor Crab-beast

Kaavel's first punch is all he needs as the strength of it crunches through the insectoid beast's chitinous skull. It drops to join it's kin... lifeless.

Action Tracker (Adjusted - R2/3): Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc, Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk

Damage Tracker:
Ankheg (Blaze) - dead
Ankheg (Kaavel) - dead
Ankheg (Grusk) - 2

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

With one hand gripping his wound, Blaze summons forth mystickal energies and lets loose a pair of missiles that strike the beast fighting Grusk. Casting Magic Missile for 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Morningstar B/P
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

"So looks like some tunnels, Sentis does these tings has a hive?"

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

I wish I knew Grusk! I've never seen or heard of these things before.

Minor Crab-beast

Grusk's spiky ball of insect doom bounces off the hide of the insect once more without inflicting damage.

The insect's jaws shiver in anger as it has just seen both of it's kin slain. Rearing up it spits forth a stream of greenish fluid that burns whatever it contacts...
Acid Spit (hits Grusk and Sentis): 4d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11 with DC 14 Reflex for half.

Action Tracker (Adjusted - R3/4): Ankhegs, Sentis + Baran, Doc, Darkbiter / Blaze, Kaavel, Grusk

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Save me some o' that!" Doc yells tossing another explosive into the hole.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 touch attack
2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 3 = 13

assuming an 8 isn't good enough to hit, grenade scatter d12 says 1d12 ⇒ 12, with 12 o'clock being straight away from Doc.

So, if he didn't hit, he overshot in a straight line 1 square per 10 feet he threw. Don't know how far away they were, but I may have still caught the bug with splash damage and/or hit any allies behind it.

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Seeing the other insect attack Grusk and Sentis, Kaavel moves forward drawing his arm back to swing.
