Game Master Mark Sweetman

The Steel Wolves are a squad of the mercenary company the Blood Hawks. Currently stationed in Kalabuto, though the jungle calls....

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Ill have to think about that Doc. Definitely at least a couple of Identify potions. Ill have to see how much coin we have once its all said and done.

The strangeness of the city and the apprehension of meeting the captain had made Sentis forget about the letter he got. Til now that is...

Oh yah, somebody gave me this letter yesterday. This Phildred character wants to meet with us this afternoon. Here, check it out.

He'll pull the note from his pouch and pass it around.

It reads:

Steel Wolves,
I have been given your details by a man of our mutual acquaintance, one Robert Vankerman. Say what you will about the man himself, but I am intrigued by what he intimated was found within the jungle depths. I would very much be interested in discussing this with you.
You may find me in my room at the Laughing Monkey tavern tomorrow afternoon.
Regards,
Phildred Holmburg"

Sounds worth looking into.

Male Human Fighter 4

"Sounds good to me Greens. I can have your back as the dumb muscle. Wouldn't want to go into something like this alone." Cort smiles at the image of himself as 'dumb muscle'. "Maybe have a Wolf or two hide in the tavern. We seem to walk into quite a few traps recently, and I'm sick of not having a defense for it."

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

"I can try to get a sense of the person if you like. Might be good to know if they are lying while speaking with us." Kaavel suggests after hearing Cortland speak.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

"Dark, Doc an I ken get tah tha tavern first an set up a perimeter, pass some coin an find out wha is what."

Minor Crab-beast

Reference info below for the Laughing Monkey - so that if you choose to go there you have some information to act on.

If you ask one of the barracks guard they are able to point out where the tavern is within the city. It is solidly within one of the older colonial districts and is well maintained. The sign outside has a picture of its namesake, a small monkey laughing uproariously. From the outside it looks quite well-to-do, stone and mortar rather than wooden construction and well bedded in.

Within the tavern is reasonably appointed, without being extravagant. There are a set of stairs at the back of the common room that you expect lead up to the private lodgings. Given that it is mid morning, the tavern is still quite quiet, though you expect that with lunch time approaching it is likely to get a bit busier. There are a couple of locals nursing a drink, and the bartender is idly polishing the bar.

You can RP shopping, or just assume that whatever you want is bought off-screen.

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

After speaking with the others about the meeting Kaavel goes off to buy some of the equipment he wanted to buy. He looks around to find finely crafted weapons to cover his fists and find a item to help him with dodging blows in combat.

Want masterwork brass knuckles and bracers of armor if possible. Should cost 1,301 gp.

Minor Crab-beast

Kaavel - no issues. You are able to find some well-weighted brass knuckles and some bracers that an Ulfen was selling to fund his journey back home.

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

Kaavel thanks the Ulfen after buying the equipment from him before heading back to the barracks to see what the others in the squad are doing.

Nice bracers thanks for the pic DM Voiceless.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze reads over the letter then says "I definitely agree it's worth looking into. I like the idea of Grusk, Dark and Doc going in first to case the place out. Cort and I can take lead, and Sentis and Kaavel can be the obvious muscle." He looks to Cort then "If I'm leader, I want you as my official second. Though to be honest, the entire team is second, depending on a given situation or mission. I meant what I said before in front of the captain, without the rest of you doing what you do so well, that mission into the jungle would have failed miserably."

Male Human Fighter 4

"Makes sense to me, a good leader always looks to the subordinate who knows the most about the situation." Cort feels a little uncomfortable being in the spotlight, but he steels himself to deal with it. "I need to head out for a bit, I've heard there's a way to make my blade a little better with some magic. Not sure I trust it but..." Cort shrugs. "IF nothing else I'll get someone to remake the damn blade if they ruin it." He nods and agrees to meet with everyone later. Sergeant Cortland Broadcloak... I like it.

Planning on getting Masterwork Transformation cast on my Aldori blade. Preferably making it look absolutely dazzling. Should cost 310 gp or so, and he'll also look around for a suit of Masterwork Chain Shirt armor, preferably bright and/or colorful.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Grusk looks at a mithral shirt that seems much better than his current chain shirt.........1,100 gold

"Yous guarantee this chain?"

Grusk also finds a very sturdy composite (+3) shortbow
300 gold

"This will let me sink an arrow up tah tha fletchin?"
Gives a tug testing the strength of the bow against his arms....

This was that talk about going ranger next level I was hinting about in ooc thread

Minor Crab-beast

Cort surrenders his blade to a group of dwarves in the market who agree to get Torag's blessing upon it. You can pick the sword back up from them later this evening (after the meeting).
He also finds a chain shirt in the bazaar that has an in-stitched surcoat in harlequin colours.

Grusk finds a blind half-orc mercenary who is selling off his equipment after he was blinded by a wizard's spell. The mithral chain could do with a clean up but is more than serviceable.
The composite shortbow is sold by a Mwangi tribesman who has a short target range set up for trialling his range of weapons. Despite the lack of a common language (he speaks a regional jungle dialect) you feel like you got a reasonable deal.

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Sentis smiled inwardly at his new Corporal's compliments and agreed whole heartedly with his assessment of the squad's cohesiveness during their recent mission.

Im hoping this guy can answer some of our questions about all this Ghol-gan stuff we have.

Before they head to their meeting he'll look to purchase some enchanted [url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/armor/leaf-armor]leaf armor[ur/] and if found then he'll sell off his now worn leather.

Minor Crab-beast

Sentis - leaf armor is a bit more exotic, so probably fairly hard to find in Kalabuto.
Can you give me a quick blurb on how you try and track it down? - you can roll for diplomacy if you like, but don't have to.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

Grusk pulls the bow back a few more times adjusting to the feel of the increased tension. FInally he unstrings the bow and looks around for extra bow-strings.

"Tha markets are full o tings!"

Grusk wanders the market asking about what things are when he doesn't know......

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

As they walk around town Sentis will watch for signs of Druids that are sometimes found it cities. They typically set up shop as herbalists and such. He knows these signs can take many forms from charcoal scrawls in the secretive and obscure language they use, an evergreen wreath or the most common sign which was a pile of acorns.

He call upon the Green Faith to help him in his search. casts Guidance

If he's lucky enough to see such a sign he'll enter and draw an aspen leaf with his finger on the counter. If he gets the usual response of a crescent moon drawn in a similar manner he will inquire if the Leaf Armor is available

Diplomacy - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

if necessary he'll add the Feast of Ashes scroll to the 1500 gp for the barter.

Minor Crab-beast

Off to one side of the market Sentis finds a freestanding tent run by Mwangi that are selling jungle plants and remedies. Initially unresponsive except for proffering their wares, they are more animated when you make the sign of the aspen. Ushering you into the tent you find a toothless aged Mwangi shaman who has the more select merchandise.

Conversing in Druidic he agrees to the sale of his coat of Monstera leaf armor for market price.

For clarity - it is +1 leaf armor

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Delighted beyond belief, Sentis will thank the Mwangi shaman and stay to try on the armor and talk their craft for a bit before catching up with the others on their way to the meeting.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze heads out to find an enchanter of arms, intending to get his scimitar ensorcelled. Once he finds one, he gently hands over his blade, albeit a tad reluctantly. "Please be careful with it. That scimitar has been in my family for many generations."

looking to get it made into a +1 weapon. Not sure what I can sell or add in to the deal to make up the 500g I need.

Minor Crab-beast

Blaze - you'll need to find a source for the extra cash before I can move forward on that one. But the shopping can play out in parallel to the main plot anyway.

Also - I posted a description of the Laughing Monkey tavern above. Let me know what you do when you get there

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Blaze, you can sell my deck of cards scroll to help get the extra coin you need.

As they approached the Laughing Monkey Sentis exchanged idle banter and the usual 'sh!t talking' with his squad mates. Sh!t talking was evidently a military term for berating each other. It was all in good fun though.

He shuddered a bit at seeing the taverns sign. Remembering too well the swarm of monkeys that had given them such a beating in the jungle. He took up a flanking position behind and a little to the side of the two humans who were leading the way.

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

Darkbiter sets out in the morning with several goals in mind. First he finds a qualified smith who can reforge his old blade into something more effective. Basically, the masterwork transformation spell refluffed to something a little less magic based. Second, he looks drops his armor off to get imbued with magic. +1 enchantment With the rest of his money, he will find someone to put proper shafts on his two axe heads, and try to get the obsidian axe head and the long johns identified. Not sure how much all of that will cost. I have 122 gp left after the first two items.

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

I thought I took the obsidian axe? I don't mind if you want it, I'm just working out who got what.

Minor Crab-beast

Dark n Doc - Doc did indeed claim the obsidian axe-head, which was fully identified as a vanilla +1 by Sentis.
Darkbiter is able to secure the masterwork and magical upgrade in house at the company barracks. A grizzled half-orc missing part of his left leg retired from the soldiering life to assist with equipment upgrades.

Long Johns:
The underwear helps to allay the impact of inclement weather conditions and keeps you comfy whatever the weather outside.
Whilst being worn provide permanent endure elements on the wearer - 50gp cost to ID

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

For some reason, people were still listing it on the unclaimed list. What about a shaft for the cold iron axe head?

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

The below assumes Blaze finds an enchanter of some sort

"We found this shield while on an exploration of some ruins. We've determined it provides some magical protection, but we're pretty sure there's some other enchantment on it. Is it possible you can identify what else it possess? 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Diplomacy

Minor Crab-beast

The enchanter holds his hand out for payment "I can take a look, but you'll need to colour my palm first..."

Is this to ID, or to sell? - 50 gold is the going rate for an ID

Where's your sense of adventure? - I've already given you a hint of what it does and the choice of your own trigger word.
Why don't you find an appropriate target and let 'er rip? Or do you just want to tease me so I can never use the descriptive text I've had in my mind for several hundred posts so far? ;)

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Bah! Gimme tha' thing! If'n ye won' let me try me hand at figurin' it out th' safe way then ah'm gonna do it th' fast way!"

Doc swipes the shield away from his companions and squints at the craftsmanship and etchings covering it while swigging down a vial. detect magic "'S'not big magic. Dangerous, bu' prob'ly no' deadly. There's always ah word 'r somethin'... 'S like how rings an' armor usually resize th'mselves though. Ye' c'n sometimes get th' word t' reset fer a new owner. It's th' intent tha's most important. Hmm...

Stapping it on his arm and ignoring any protests he looks at Grusk for a moment, faces the shield at him and says "Bugger off!"

sorry buddy. :) I'll heal you.

Minor Crab-beast

As Doc faces the shield up towards Grusk and utters the words an unearthly howl is heard coming from all directions. Doc is rocked back onto his heels as a burst of energy surges out of the shield. An insubstantial apparition flows out of the disc, its form wavy and indistinct. It slams into Grusk and sends him flying backwards, though he manages to keep his footing.

The outside of the shield is left with a slowly fading red glow in the shape of a single eye. As you regather your composure you are left with the impression that the apparition was a wolf drawn chariot, whipped forward by a cyclopean master and a faint smell of burnt pine.

"Szent Pokol!" Cort spits in Kellish. "That was awesome. How often does it do that? I can't say that doesn't seem useful." The duelist's face is split in a wide, boyish grin as he watches the experiment. "See if it works on me next, I'll offer myself to the will of experimentation" Broadcloak sets himself against it, smiling at Doc as he waits for him to try again.

Minor Crab-beast

Once a day unfortunately for Cort....

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

Thats it? All it did was push Grusk back a step. I say we sell it and let Blaze use the money for his sword. And if we dont hurry we'll be late for our meeting.

Male Half-Elf Martial Artist /4

"Looks like it could be used for some laughs though Sentis. If no one really wants it than yeah sell it so Blaze can get his sword." Kaavel says after watching Grusk get pushed back.

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

"Certainly an impressive display, but does anyone here actually use shields? Kinda pointless to keep if its not going to be used."

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Ah do." Doc says with a shrug. "Ah pr'fer not t' have t' git close 'nough to somethin' mean enough t' need it though. Tha' shield might be mighty handy fer keepin' things back. Grusk's mighty strong an' sure on 'is feat. Most critters prob'ly woundn't take it as well as 'im. Sorta why ah aimed it at 'im."

Doc rummages around in his sporran, coming up with a pouch, and hands it to Blaze. "'ere, Blaze. Git yer sword. Ah c'n spare it fer now, an ye c'n pay me back later wit' a bit o' intrest."

I'll buy the rest of Blaze's sword for him. He can pay me back next time we make some money. I'll hang on to the shield. It could be handy.

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

You all do realize I took the shield and left right?? I mean, I'll let it go cuz that was kinda cool, but technically, I'm no where near any of you

Blaze shakes his head at Doc's offer and desire to keep the shield. "I think it would best to sell the shield Doc. With an ability like that, it should fetch us a decent price. I'm only a few hundred short to get my scimitar enchanted, so any excess I get could go towards you making us more potions. Besides, chances are good that if there's something close enough to you that you need to use the shield, the rest of us have failed and most likely fallen."

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

Some retro posts are inevitable in this format. Best to simply roll with it.

"I also got this lovely underwear id'ed. One of you whiners about how hot the jungle is might like them. They won't get rid of the mosquitoes, but they will let you be comfortable in the heat."

Must have missed that. I thought we were all wandering around the bazaar together on our way to that tavern we're supposed to be casing.

Doc shrugs handing back the shield. "Your call, boss. Ah'm gonna look 'round fer some basics. Damn do ah wish ah could afford one o' them extr'dm'ension'l bags..."

Doc shops for a lot of strange things. Alchemical supplies, raw trapmaking gear, pullys, nets and crossbow bolts, paint, things like that.

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

"Fer future reference lets me know afore I is tha wooden man fer testin yer weapons."

Grusk does his best to maintain a straight face....

"Don't be think fer even a minute ywer gettin me intah the pink long-johns!"

Memluk "Blaze" Seljuk wrote:

Technically, I'll let it go.... just saying :)

Doc finds a range of stalls to suit his myriad purposes. Some Mwangi fishermen who ply the lake supply most of his block and tackle requirements. The alchemical components come from a slightly fire damaged shopfront run by a gnome that you think used to have eyebrows until recently....

Sale of shield - any descriptive text to attempt to increase sale price?

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

Blaze goes to find somebody who he can sell the shield to, preferably somebody who can also enchant his blade "I found this shield while exploring some ruins with my companions. It offers some extra protection and has a useful secondary ability as well. Sadly, none of my buddies and I really use a shield so I'm looking to sell it. While I know I can't get full price, I'd like to at least get a solid deal"1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Diplomacy

Minor Crab-beast

Blaze finds a willing purchaser, though he is less than impressed when the so called secondary ability fails to eventuate. The sword is left for enchanting and the shield retained so that the buyer may evaluate the surge on the morrow and determine fair price.

Do I skip straight to the meeting, or did you want to do some research / recon?

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

I plan on going in say maybe a half hour or so after Grusk, Doc and Dark do. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, it does not matter much. If those three want to RP anything in the Inn, it's their call and ok with me either way

HP AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Bombs , Init +

"Got mah gear." Doc says returning from a slightly burnt kiosk. "Dark, Grusk, what say we go do some drinkin'- er, recon."

M half-orc Rogue 4 (acrobat) / Ranger 1 (falconer)

"Going tah tha place an lookin round an comin back an reporting, seems easy nuff. I think knowing how tha place is laid out where tha doors an windows is an such just makes sense afore we march in like a line o sittin ducks."

"Sides i could use a drink."

Male Keleshite Magus(Kensai Archetype)/5

The Keleshite shakes his head at Grusk "First part of your plan works, but I think it would be best if you three stayed there and wait for the rest of us. Was thinkin of givin you guys about a half hour to scope the place out, get settled in and have a drink or two, like normal patrons. Then the rest of us will come in and have this meeting. If your needed for whatever reason, you guys won't be far away."

Male Half Elf Wolf Shaman 5

A sound plan Blaze.

Sentis stood leaning against the wall with his arms crossed on his chest feeling secure in the comfort of his new leaf armor and in the company of his fellow Wolves despite the unfamiliarity of the city's bustle.

...the Green Faith has provided yet again and my pack is looking more and more dangerous...send a warning to any and all that would cross our path with harmful intent...our Alpha has much to prove but has done exceedingly well so far...

male Half orc Shapeshifter Skirmisher 5

"Sounds reasonable enough. Shall the advance team be off then?"
