Yeah, picking languages as someone with the Culture skill is a bit hard - I personally have 17 (including the Hylki Akitonian language and Common). I don't believe I've seen a list, but I'll imagine there's a few Molly would speak (Languages of Akiton, piratical cants, Vesk, whatever techno-language the anacites speak, etc.)
@Zeni, as for suggestions, I'd point out that we have someone making big enemies flat-footed (our very own Absalom Jones), and I'm not certain Clever Attack is better than simply shooting twice, but it's definitely not all about the numbers.
Improved Get'Em would be nice, especially if we end up fighting alongside the crew at some point, but I stress again, it's entirely your choice. I like the flavour of Hidden Agenda and Slick Customer combining into the Paizo stereotype about the charming, yet very corporate Lashunta! I think.
CarraMarina 'Karma' Ontozz |
@GM I can't wait! It's gonna be good.
@Molly Is there even that many languages in the game? You guys would be making Karma and her two languages feel bad, or at least you would if she cared.
@Zeni Seconding Improved Get'em. +2 attack is great. Other good choices for focusing on buffs or debuffs include Don't Quit, but I believe Ellion has most of that covered. Your choices are pretty solid. Expert attack is a huge bonus on a couple of shots a day. Depends on what you want out of your character really
@Absalom Jones I laughed at this, and you're stuck with this nickname now. If you don't mind, I mean.
Zeni.Tyrnis |
@Molly: Clever attack lets me both debuff an enemy (for everyone if I roll well) and attack in the same round, which is why I like it, but I think you and Karma are probably right about Improved Get 'Em being the best choice. I'll swap that out, but still keep Clever Feint, so that way if we want to make a foe both flat footed (from me) and -2 attack (from him), we've got that option available. If we find I actually am using Clever Feint regularly, then I can always pick up Clever Attack for my next improv.
And yeah, Zeni's Int mod was +2 at 1st level, so I think she'd only be two languages behind you. If I'd taken the linguist expertise talent, I probably _could_ have gotten all the languages available in the core book.

There's lots of ship layouts online. I typically just put something like rpg spaceship layout into google images and follow links and picking up things I like. I've been gathering them over time and this big three part one was appropriate. A bit of small editing in roll20 and it suits my needs.
Ellion Hesoni |
Do we have a uniform style/protocol on when/what to wear? I'm asking as Ellion is in the unique position of being given special clothes from 2 different religious organizations (story to be posted yet) as well as having his exo-suit. He hates all 3 but understands there is a reason for them.

Public appearances require the official uniform. Of course off duty or off station are entirely at your discretion. On duty or on ship are up to Zeni's discretion once you leave station.

Thursday is my RL Starfinder game night, so I haven't had time to put together a post. Normally I'll just make shorter posts on Thursdays, but since I can't get away with that for the first one, I'm going to hold off on posting until I get home from work tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, but quite enjoying everyone's initial posts!
Molly Bakir |
Woah. That took a lot longer to write than I thought it would.
@Molly I love the idea of Meeting the Explorers and may need to work out what happened during Karma's bit.
Tell me about it. I think I spent a bit over an hour on the post, trying to reconscile Molly's initial concept to a justification to a level 10 stat block!
By the way, saying this now - Molly is not a character with a lot of social grace, and she might be swearing occasionally. I imagine a strong correlation may be drawn between the amounts of vulgarities and Engineering checks.
If anyone's bothered, I added those basic profanities in her character sheet for a reason, and I could easily use more 'space-y' language instead. I'll probably still go into those for the more emotionally loaded rants, though.
Zeni.Tyrnis |
Can you bump Tyrnis to former player status on this game so that Zeni.Tyrnis will show up as a player? I'm bad about posting with my default, and apparently going back and editing the post so it shows up as the correct one doesn't change the player list.
EDIT: Correction - they are both showing up now, so that means the campaign will be showing up in Zeni's profile like it should. But still not a bad thing to bump my main profile from the character list.
CarraMarina 'Karma' Ontozz |
@Molly - I have no problem with swearing, although I've always been partial to the Guardians of the Galaxy comic's 'Flark' or "D'ast', which may become Karma's catch phrase of choice.
Annnnnnd, not having computers or culture, I'm just gonna sit here until you guys need the ship landed. If you want some snarky commentary while you work, I am happy to provide!
Molly Bakir |
Do snark away. I'm not sure if I'd be responsible for the Computers (probably not), or even have an engineering station (I think at least one of the Star Treks lacked one.) Although, we have two scientists, so I'll probably let them take care of things first, and only chip in if they need the extra roll from me!
But I'm on the bridge, since nobody bothered to kick me out yet, and stealing looks from other people's consoles sounds like a thing to do.
CarraMarina 'Karma' Ontozz |
Snark shots fired! Had to be aimed at Molly. No one else has said anything to her yet.
@Evio - You look pretty good. It's hard to give specifics from the first few posts, and I can try to give more later. Note that I'm also fairly new. The only thing I would suggest is instead of spoilering ooc, using the [ ooc] and [ /ooc] commands (without the spaces). Although either works, so that's really a personal taste thing.
We should probably start thinking about a ground team. (I say because I'm working on how to justify the pilot going. It should be fine, because she does have at least the 4th most combat experience out of everyone on the ship).
TarkXT |
This is a Star Trek style game...it's expected that that captain and every major bridge officer be the ones to go on away missions :-p
Lol pretty much.
In the first series it was important to establish Kirk as something of a renegade to justify why he would do incredibly stupid things like deal with planet side problems personally.
Than it just kind of became normal.
Molly Bakir |
I've not seen all the Star Trek, to be fair. I could justify Molly going, since she's not going to let the other members of the engineering team work in a possibly hostile environment, and sure as hell isn't going to let a ground pounder anywhere near mining equipment.
@Karma, returning fire!
Eivo |
@Molly I appreciate the note about toe stepping, it has been a sore point with me in the past, this character creation was very different then any I have done before and Eivo is not really tied to anything he does, I play a lot of Shadowrun so that is coloring my narrative currently.
I am enjoying the Star Trek vibe.
Molly Bakir |
@Eivo: Shadowrun is awesome! About the skills: Starfinder's classes overlap a bit more than those in Pathfinder, I think, and there's bound to be some friction regarding skills. But aiding another is the best way around it!
CarraMarina 'Karma' Ontozz |
I just used bold ::, which I think I'd prefer as italics is usually internal monologue. But a telepathic dialogue is an internal monologue, so either works.
I apologize for offering to split the party, and if you don't want to run that (which as a GM I completely understand), tell me here and I will gladly retract the suggestion in character.
@Eivo - I like the Alien Archive, because it has loads of fun player species in it (I say, playing a human). Don't have any of the others. I'm interested in the idea of the equipment book.
Eivo |
The operative exploit Enhanced Senses gives Blindsense, but does not tie it to a sense. Should I pick a sense (thoughts) or is it suppose to be undefined?
@GM I am enjoying this game a ton
Molly Bakir |
@GM - the question was more along the lines, were those people killed by magic or some beastie that might've evolved on this planet. Because I don't want to meet anything that evolved on this planet. Also, as Karma said - I'm loving it so far!
Molly Bakir |
Huh. It turns out I forgot that I have a pretty powerful computer in my arm, and forgot to use it. If I'd have built it properly, we'd have had connection and elevator control as soon as we saw the lift.
Eh. Hindsight. I'll add it to my sheet.
The small part of me that does physics a couple of times a month was a bit shocked, but it's sci-fi, so I don't care!
Ellion Hesoni |
Sorry, my trip ran late - I'll put up a nice post tomorrow.
No opposition to the outlined plan.
In the shorter post I'm putting up tonight, Ellion's looking to see people who are behaving oddly - at least more so than being in this predicament would entail.
Molly Bakir |
I hope I'm the only one getting confused, but I'll summarise my questions down here for clarity.
- Do we have surface to orbit connection to Desna's Reach from the surface of the planet? If so, what prevents us from using one of our comms as a means of communication?
- I imagine the ship's unable to land right next to the front door, since the landing pad was about half a mile up the hill, if I recall correctly.
- There is the storage space for the cargo haulers, which have their doors caved in. What are the warehouses, and what's in them currently? Do we have access to them from here without risking encounters?
EDIT: Re-read the posts, and I think freeing up one of the warehouses is a good bet.
- Can we wirelessly command one of the haulers to go to the warehouse, so we can begin work on it? Also, would I be able to eventually command the mobile refinery with my control rig, which has 5 miles range, when we get comms back or is that thing strictly analogue?
That's what I have regarding questions.
Regarding plans, I'm assuming that the escape plan is to arrange a very quick pickup as we escape from the facility with the caged hauler and have the ship pick us up. For that, we'll need the comms array and the hauler operational beforehand.
Regarding study on the creature, Molly's completely fine with having it, the planet, and the corporate profits burn in whichever hell they find the most convenient, but if there's more information found out about it, and potentially other ways to use it, she'll be (begrudgingly) assisting!

1. Yes. And no reason really. However the difference between your personal communicator and a coomms array is like a prepaid phone and a cellphone tower. You can do so much more so much cleaner with a bigger meatier system. HAndling electrical storm interference for one. Plus if you do end up leaving the miners here you can't really leave them your stuff.
2. Yeah the ship is massive. In terms of scale a medium starship is a colossal in people. So big, really really big. The reason I started you guys with large is that anything bigger just wont land on things.
3. No, sadly. You can rig a repair hauler to be controlled wirelessly but they're meant to be driven not controlled. The refinery is almost entirely analogue and requires a small crew to move. You would be flat out told that remote control would be potentially disastrous as a controller wouldn't have the awareness or control necessary to keep a an 800 ton tracked building from rolling into a sand pit or crashing into a ditch. Courses are planned, laid out, and figured out days to weeks in advance before it moves. Basically a big slow land ship that has few electrical components to be exposed tto the planets electrical storms.

Hey guys! Just a warning, I'll be travelling over the weekend, so I might find myself without the ability to post more than a dot.
It should all be back to normal on Sunday, though!
