Action 2:

Kamiya held out her hand. "I'll take the grenade if no one else wants it."

Action 3:

Kamiya breathed a sigh of relief as the akata went down without ever getting near her. "Your aim is improving, Robert. You'll be a marksman yet. Hopefully we don't run into any more reasons for you to prove yourself."

Action 4:

Kamiya was mildly surprised when the door opened. She used her telepathy to say to the others, "I thought you locked all the doors."

Recovering quickly, she regarded the space goblins warily but her demeanor was friendly. "The promise of help needs to be bought with answers to our questions. How did you get on to the Acreon? Where is your ship? Why are you here? Begin with those answers and we'll decide how to proceed."

You have no idea how happy the concept of a junk laser makes me. Surely a weapon from Austin Powers, Space Jockey.

Action 1

Intrigued, Oriana asked, "What kind of things? Is this the racing you have alluded to? Why would your parents not be proud of your prowess?" Thinking a moment, she finally shook her head, and said, "I have never heard of a tortoise - I don't suppose we have something similar on Kasath. I would like to learn more about them, and your racing, when we have more time."

Action 2
"Are we very certain that the Eox package was involved in the disappearance of the crew? It seems there are lots of things that could have gone wrong other than assuming the ambassador's parcel is the cause."

Action 4

Oriana jumped when the small creatures showed themselves. Still, they seemed truly desperate for rescue, and she wasn't surprised. She opened her mouth to reassure them, but shut it again as Kamiya spoke up. [i]Best let her do the talking for now,"[/b] she thought, and she kept an eye down the hallway in case there were more akatas.

Male Human Technomancer 1

Hmm... it seems we are already deviating from the "lock all the doors except one route to the bridge and go there" plan ;^) Oh well, if Fabian wants to lead us here by the nose, that's fine by me.

Action 2

Oriana wrote:
"Are we very certain that the Eox package was involved in the disappearance of the crew? It seems there are lots of things that could have gone wrong other than assuming the ambassador's parcel is the cause."

"We aren't certain about that at all - so far, we have zero hard evidence about what happened to the crew, except that they do not seem to be here anymore. Both the Akatas and that goblin might have wandered in after the crew disappeared and left the door open for surprise guests," Robert said, casting a sidelong look at the camera drone following them.

Action 3

Kamiya wrote:

"Yeah, hopefully," Robert muttered as he shouldered his rifle. A miscalculation, believing all the Akatas would have attacked in one group. Which meant that if one had lagged behind, so might others. The mission was fast turning from mysterious to downright lethal, but it was too late to back out now and try to negotiate.

Action 3
John nodded "Good shot. We need to get better armour for those in the front line though. Those things have a nasty bite."

Action 4
John blanked "More goblins?" he asked. After a moment he decided the two troublemakers were well in hand "I'm keeping watch for more Azatas. Robert, keep that rifle ready in case the goblins cause trouble."

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if there will ever be a good time but I think that immersing myself in a make-believe world will probably help so I'll be taking up the mantle of GM again.

I'll recap and move things along soon.

John scowled over his shoulder at the noisemakers, glanced at Kamiya, then quickly returned his attention to guard duty. 'The best course of action is for everyone to do their speciality. Kamiya's specialised for interrogation. I'm specialised for guard duty - unless we suddenly need a contract.'

Rolf nodded, “Yes, yes. He can. Just give it to him; you’ll see.”

'Make it better by having the right person point it at the right target, he means,' Robert thought sourly, taking half a step back to maintain some distance and kept the muzzle pointed at the goblin. "I think the rifle feels right at home where it is, thank you," Robert growled. "Now, if you don't want it handed to you one bullet at a time and at some speed, I suggest you keep your hands where we can see then and yourselves a couple paces back from us."

"So you EVAed your way here, not knowing what awaited? Gutsy, or desperate," he said, hoping Kamiya's golden tongue could help get some straight answers from the creatures. "How long ago was this? Were the Akatas here before you or did they follow? Can you tell us anything useful about the ship?"

I'm all for locking the critters in the room so we can finish our exploration without having to babysit these critters... assuming we can lock the door, as we were supposed to have already done so for all the doors we needn't open to reach the bridge... well, perhaps a moment with some engineering equipment would let us weld the door shut or something.

Just some OOC replies for now.

The doors can be locked from the outside but you can't lock someone inside (i.e., someone inside could still get out unless you barricade the door or take some other measures).

Male Human Technomancer 1

By the way... what else was in the room in addition to the goblins? Loot/machinery/something of particular interest?

Kamiya smiled at the space goblins and slipped into her diplomatic role. "You must have been so scared when the akatas appeared, I know I was. Is it just the two of you left?" Then her face grew sad, "I'm sorry for the loss of your friend."

She tried to find out a little more about why they were there. "I understand that a broken ship is inviting but why did you come here? Who told you that this ship was broken? Didn't they also tell you that the ship is under quarantine and off-limits? How did you plan to get off the ship?"

The goblins both pleaded again, “So, can you save us from the akatas?”

"We have killed three so far. How many of the things did you see?" Robert asked. He wasn't sure how far these two could be trusted, but would they lie about that? 'Unless they hoped we and the beasts would finish each other off and leave them to free to pick our corpses' pockets,' he answered his own question.

"If we can't lock them in, better march them ahead of us at gunpoint. We get to keep an eye on them and they might just come in handy if they were to set off some booby trap left by the original crew or someone else who wandered in after the spoils," Robert said. He didn't have anything in particular against goblins in general, but these two were an unknown element as well as a distraction, and they didn't need either at the moment.

Oriana was aghast at Robert's suggestion. "That...that's dishonourable!" The little goblins had offered them no harm, and had answered their questions with no trouble.

On the other hand, she wasn't ready to trust them with her life. "We want to clear the ship of all dangers. Will you stay in this room until the coast is clear? We'll take you with us if you cooperate, and don't put anybody in danger."

"Are ... are we really aiding and abetting them with looting the ship?" Zadie asked. "I mean, this stuff belongs to someone: the Collective or Astral. If Astral ends up with the stuff, I guess the goblins might as well have it, but I don't want to rob the Collective. And something here belongs to the ambassador, if it's not the akatas."

Kamiya's eyes lit up. "We're supposed to find out what happened to the previous owners. Can I see what you found? It would help us and maybe make us more likely to help you."

Action 2:

Kamiya shook her head, "It's much too dangerous for you to be going anywhere without us. You'd probably end up like Parwan. We can't have that." This would be so much easier if they could just lock them up somewhere but if they had to keep them with them then at least she could keep them friendly.

Towards the bridge! And let us not accept any detours this time ;^)

Robert nodded in answer to the silent communication. They had already tried to lock the door once and failed, so he didn't put much faith for a second attempt working much better. So might as well keep them where they could see them.

Oriana shrugged - it seemed that the goblins were happy to go first, and weren't concerned about the danger. She would just keep an eye on them, both for their safety, and to hopefully stop any more pilfering.

"Let's continue to the bridge," she said. "That part of the plan hasn't changed."

Honestly, Zadie probably wouldn't have said as much as she's said if I consistently remembered we were being recorded by the Eoxian drone. I mostly remember after I've already posted.

"My laser still won't hurt these things!" Zadie reminded everyone testily. Keeping in mind Kamiya's instructions, she backed a few steps down the corridor, trying to keep an eye on the goblins and see where they ended up. Ok... I don't fancy shooting it out so let's try magic... and since fire didn't work I guess it'll have to be an illusion... Holographic Image can blanket 5 10'x10' squares, so let's cover the entrance to the hallway and spread the rest of the area into the room. Illusions will be group of space goblins in suits and wielding clunky laser and projectile weapons. Idea would be for the critters to charge in, fire in the general direction of the Akatas and then run around the room, away from the beasties, giving them extra targets to pursue... major issue is that the illusion is visual only, so no sound... spoken voices are easy to ignore by making the goblins' space suit helms closed, so no sound of their war-cries would get out anyway. I hope the sounds of real combat will be enough so that the beasts don't realize the goblin horde is completely silent, footsteps included... I dunno if the Akatas being animals (I assume they are, at any rate) makes it less likely they will figure something is wrong with the whole picture, at least before they manage to take a bite of an illusion and see there's nothing in their mouths... or grow suspicious as the little gremlins are WAY too good at dodging at last moment... but if this can buy us a round or two of free hits before they all round up on us...

So... 5' step to get behind John, drop the autorifle (perhaps Kamiya can kick it back towards Zadie or Zadie can come pick it up) and then cast the spell.

So much for shooting back, Robert sighed as he took a step back to get John's body between him and the roomful of sharp teeth. His options were limited, but perhaps an illusion would buy the brawnier members of their little group time to do something about things. There were limitations what his minor light manipulation could achieve, but then again, these were mere animals. Surely he could weave something that would keep them guessing for a few seconds at least...

"Illusions incoming," he murmured on their suit channel, then concentrated on his efforts to bend and shape light around them, whispering mathematical formulae that helped him concentrate his will just so, to bend the laws of physics to his will.

From the corridor behind them, a group of five space-suited goblins rushed in, running boldly past John, shooting their crude makeshift weapons from the hip in the general direction of the Akatas. The bullets and coherent energy beams all missed, leaving behind scars or scorch marks on the walls and consoles they did hit, but the small horde didn't seem fazed by their ineffectiveness, as they jumped behind this console and that chair, constantly on the move towards one Akata and then immediately turning tail after a hail of almost-random shots fired to rush towards another foe.

Fire, and since they are in space without suits and live I think it is safe to say they are immune to cold as well... I doubt cold spells get much cooler than that.

Oriana was grateful that the goblin illusions had distracted the akatas for a precious few seconds. Taking advantage of them, she swung her staff in a hard, two-handed blow; her lower arms providing the counter-balance she needed to stay stable. Unfortunately, the creature easily dodged her blow, so Oriana prepared for the retaliatory strike.

Male Human Technomancer 1

That was quick... I did try to point out that the illusions would be VERY good at avoiding being bitten, but then again, at least one of those was a very fine attack. Oh well, I assume trying to sustain the illusion is of little benefit at this point.

Let's pick up the rifle again (since no-one else has wanted it, if Zadie wants it he can hand it out to her this round or later), cast Energy Ray at whichever Akata is in line of sight (let's try electricity for damage) and back away from the door.

"Quick beasties," Robert muttered as he allowed his illusion to disperse. He would have hoped the creatures would have been distracted a bit longer but such was life. Instead, he focused his attention to the one offensive reality manipulation he had that was not tied to presence or absence of heat. A starship was fortunately a hotbed of high-energy physics and crisscrossed with miles and miles of energy conduits large and small. And even though they were naturally shielded they could be put to use by a mind powerful enough to do so.

Robert concentrated on the first Akata he laid eyes on, twisting probabilities to generate a surge in a power cable running under the floor panels directly beneath the space-born creature, causing a bright blue-white spark of electricity to arc out and shock the beast.
