"You were cheating, you mean," Zadie retorted. "Go ahead, check his cards!" she urged the thug who had seemed pleased with the interruption. It would even the odds if they didn't have to fight all three at once.

Bluff 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

I hope Starfinder has the +5 bonus for if the target wants to believe what I'm saying.

You know I like out of the box thinking so I will give this a fair chance to work.

I had a couple moments so here's my post...

Kamiya looked aghast. "You may think I'm cheap but Ferani didn't. Wait until she hears that you're disrespecting her by refusing her gift."

Using Clever Feint to hopefully get at least one of the guys flat footed.

John thought furiously. Can't use the gun. He's using a stick against state of the art protective armour, so at worst this is a beating, so lethal self defence is out. I need to enter melee. I should have made an effort to start studying brawling when I arrived. All I have is the Physical Fitness series based on Chiang Rui. I'm not sure that's even a real fighting style.
"You're 10 seconds away from the most embarrassing moment in your life." John's boast wasn't borne out as he moved; He came closer and his leg hooked around the thug in what looked a little like a martial art maneuver, and a little like some sort of athletic stretch.
Sneering the Thug jumped the leg sweep and came down ready to strike.

I'm keen to try out the new combat maneuver rules, and if he's using an ACTUAL club it'll be archaic, which means this is a relatively safe fight.

Oriana shook herself free from her surprised inaction. John was under attack - though he seemed to be handling it with little difficulty. Still, the other men were rushing at them, meaning harm.

Her black mote was suddenly in her hand, grown into a familiar black staff. Spinning it with surprising speed, she kept herself between the one coming around the north end of the table and Zadie. Holding up her two right hands to him, she said, "Stay back of us. We do not mean you harm, but will defend ourselves if we need to."

Male Human Technomancer 1

Robert stays hidden behind his illusion, I think, to see how the battle goes. He is not, after all, armed as far as the others know. If things start looking like the others need help or there's an opportunity on following turns to shoot a spell to heroically settle the matter... well, let's reconsider matters then.

But there *is* that other door to the north... let's say that Robert readies action to Overheat any enemy who tries to run away in that direction - for all he knows, there might be reinforcements over there.

For the moment safely hidden behind the layers of hologrphic images, Robert decided to wait out the fight at least for the time being. He saw, after all, little reason to risk his own skin as long as the others were on top of their game. He did note the other door leading further into the building and had to consider the possible implications. Thus he readied his mind to alter localized flows of thermal energy, to try and stop any runners who might head in that direction.

The issue of the spinning wheel of death seems to be a real issue that's not going away anytime soon.

Can you all 'download' (arrow on the right side of each file) the turns from HERE?

If so, then I'll just provide this link and remind you which turn we are on.

Let me know.

Male Human Technomancer 1

Works for me... though I got the turns from Google earlier today just fine.

Female Lashunta

The download you provided works for me too. It's weird, google docs seems to work for me in the other games but not Dead Suns.

Kamiya used her natural abilities to manipulate the thoughts of others to short-circuit the mind of the thug attacking John.

Using her Daze ability on the thug next to her. DC=14

Kamiya's plan if she's successful in her Daze, is to use her Psychokinetic Hand ability next round while they're still unable to act to lift the small pistol off of whoever is dazed so that she has a weapon. She's saving her hidden grenade for now.

Themeless Android Soldier, Notary Public, Barrister, Solicitor and Attorney at law

I can get it from the site.
I can't get it from Gameplay.
The problem started in one game, and then went from there.

Female Human Operative (Outlaw) 1 "Vladlena Kanji"

Yes, I can download from the site.

"Okay, okay, keep your suits on," Zadie backed toward the door as she liberated her pistol from beneath her cap.

Kamiya remembered Oriana telling her that the thugs each had a gun on them. Seeing that the thug she targeted was indeed dazed into inaction and no longer protecting his firearm, she pointed her finger at it and lifted it off of him to arm herself with.

Using psychokinetic hand to take dazed thug's weapon.

Oriana flinched back, crying out. It was the first time she'd ever been shot, and it hurt! "Shame on you!" she cried, moving forward to the one who'd shot her. "That was unnecessary and dishonourable!"

Stepping around a chair, she came up on the man and swung her staff at him in a vicious underhand arc. The blacker-than-black staff caught him on the knee, and Oriana heard a crunching sound as something gave way inside him.

Her pistol in her hand, Zadie zagged back across the room closer to her lawyer, tapping her comm in search of a vulnerable system. "That'll do," she decided, feeding a momentary surge of power to a light panel on the wall behind the card table. As the light level suddenly flashed brighter behind the thugs, she took advantage of the distraction to fire at the Downside King closest to Oriana.

Move 2 squares south; azimuth laser pistol 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 damage 1d4 ⇒ 1 Trick attack: Computers (DC 20 + thug's CR) 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 4 = 22 for 1d4 ⇒ 3 additional damage + make thug flatfooted

I was having trouble getting the turn even from direct download.
I tried using Firefox and it worked from gameplay again.
What browser are people using? I'm wondering if the bug might actually be in chrome.

Themeless Android Soldier, Notary Public, Barrister, Solicitor and Attorney at law

"Really?" John asks, as the brawl turns into a deadly gunfight. Sighing he steps back, deploys his cannon and looks at the poor thug in front of him. "I'm so sorry..." he apologises, voice completely different. "I'll try to make it quick."
intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Male Human Technomancer 1

Still doesn't seem wise to risk Robert's own skin... let's extend the illusion a bit NW (it can cover 5 squares at this level) and move there, still hidden (2 squares above Oriana would be perfect)... trying to get things lined up so Robert can Overheat both the back-row people without getting too close next round with one move action, even if that'll expose him at that point.

'I wish they'd just get it dealt with already,' Robert thought in irritation. Considering the level of violence the others had displayed in their first encounter, he had expect two of the three gangsters would have been reduced to a thin reddish-brown paste on the opposite wall by now, but no... 'Guess there's something to that old saying about getting things done and who needs to do them...'

Concentrating on manipulating his visual illusion, Robert extended it along the wall towards the door to his right, creeping forward unseen as the others kept the gangsters entertained. He could only impose his will on the universe so often, so he'd have to get the most out of every experidure of power.

Themeless Android Soldier, Notary Public, Barrister, Solicitor and Attorney at law

Figured I'd step back and draw so people can do something to stop John using a cannon in a nightclub... or not.

The gun is a Laser pistol, azimuth as found here.

Female Human Operative (Outlaw) 1 "Vladlena Kanji"

The other door is the one at the top of the map? Can Zadie tell by looking if it has a lock like the one by which we entered?

Themeless Android Soldier, Notary Public, Barrister, Solicitor and Attorney at law

is the club archaic? They do less damage against modern armour.
Going to provoke from the club next to him who is bashing him with the club on the basis it is archaic, and shoot at the flat footed laser pistol guy first with a full attack (which means his KAC will be 10).

full attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 4 = 2
full attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 4 = 15 damage: 1d10 ⇒ 10
Sighing John turns his gun on Niggle, the pistol wielding opponent by the door. The first shell flies wide, but the second strikes home. Blood sprays across the wall behind him as Niggle, still in shock, collapses over the table.

Operator error. :(

Feel free to be where you said you would be.

Male Human Technomancer 1

A bit unfamiliar with the format, but both John and Oriana out of the temp HP buffer and starting to take "real" damage? I guess it's time for Robert to get off his arse and join the fray... after all, if the others go down he'd be left to deal with the survivors alone and that migth be dangerous ;^)

So let's drop the hologram and cast Energy Ray... too bad the baddies moved, I can't get enough mileage to warrant an Overheat, so let's just tap the fellow who's mostly dead already with a freebie spell.

As for movement... let's just move Robert 2 squares NW from his current position.

Energy Ray, hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Crit?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 That'd seem to be a yes
Damage, cold: 2d3 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 Mostly underwhelming...

Things were not turning out well, Robert thought, as he saw two of their number bearing wounds already and all the gangsters still on their feet, with possible reinforcements heading their way. Clearly, something needed to be done to even the numbers.

Relinquishing his hologram, Robert turned his attention to the gangster Oriana almost decked with her staff. As his form faded into visibility from behind the false image of the room, the technomancer was already taking aim, one finger extended towards the enemy’s head, seeing a spot of frost form between the man’s eyes as Robert’s will twisted the second law of thermodynamics, draining heat directly from the gangster’s brain and shunting it into the air around him.

init+1, perc +6, SM +1, dip +7, bluff +3, intim +7 fort+2, ref +1, will +3

John, I thought you were asking if the nightclub was archaic!

"Ahh!" Oriana cried out again in pain, one of her free arms clapping over the wound instinctively. "We just want to talk! Why does everybody just shoot first!"

The black staff seemed to pulse with dark energy, and the very air around the kasatha seemed momentarily dimmer. She stepped forward and swung the staff again with her two upper hands, hoping to knock him to the ground and end the pain he was dealing out to her. The staff lashed quickly towards his head, knocking him a solid blow on the temple, and sending him to the ground.

If robert has already dropped him, she'll move to the other dude and hit him instead.

attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
confirm crit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 HA!
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

init+1, perc +6, SM +1, dip +7, bluff +3, intim +7 fort+2, ref +1, will +3

Metagaming Moment: Oriana is going to use her black hole graviton attunement next round to pull some/all of the baddies 10 feet in her direction - it's the first time she's done it and it will be somewhat of a surprise. So it could make for good roleplaying if somebody is in the way and gets hit by a baddie, or ends up helpfully close to one. I'm sure Fabian won't mind planning this, as it could lead to awesomeness. :)

Female Human Operative (Outlaw) 1 "Vladlena Kanji"

Oriana, you don't have to confirm crits in Starfinder; it's automatic double damage when you roll a natural 20.

"We can't fight all the Downside Kings," Zadie reminded everyone a bit frantically. "We're just supposed to be finding out if Kreel was the target!"

Assuming either Robert or Oriana has downed the northernmost thug...

Zadie rushed to the door and tried to jam the locking panel.

DC 10 to jam a door, according to the CRB; with a +10, she can't fail that Engineering roll, but it takes a round.

Female Lashunta

Kamiya knew they were past being able to talk their way anywhere. She had managed to relieve one of the thugs of his gun so instead of taking the time to get out her grenade, she decided to shoot.

She'll shoot at the flat-footed thug 2 since it seems reasonable that he'll come after her once he isn't flat-footed.

Kamiya affected terror, although it wasn't that difficult, and ran towards the vesk. She pointed at the dead thug, "He was cheating and the others took offense. Yes, I realize that but it would sow just as much doubt if I disagreed with Zadie as to what was going on. And the other two thugs still standing are at critical so maybe something unfortunate with befall both of them :)

John decided all was lost. It was time to use his most dangerous - and most unpredictable - weapon. Lying. Sadly his ability to do so was impaired by his complete and utter lack of knowledge about modern culture. Desperately he locked onto the lies perpetrated by the others.
"I also am entertainment." he assured the Vesk.

profession: are we in a "no witnesses" situation? In which case John needs to go into "witness reduction mode"?

Right, we were supposed to leave people alive to talk... Robert will see if Kamiya's bluff will add to the confusion enough to get us out of combat rounds, if not he'll blast an Overheat at the largest concentration of enemies he can reach, priority with the Vesk as he looks dangerous. "We don't want to kill you!" she shouted, though evidence may have suggested otherwise. She hopped down from the table, and swinging her staff, she moved towards the newcomers until she was standing just behind Zadie.

Nudging the woman to the side, the kasatha raised her voice. "We just came here to talk. WHY WON'T YOU JUST SIT DOWN AND TALK TO US?!"

With the last word, the light seemed to leave the room for a moment, and Oriana's form darkened. A hollow whooshing sound, centred on her, filled the room, and suddenly the vesk and Forani found themselves fighting an overwhelming gravitational surge, pulling them towards the staff-wielding woman.

Curses! Their sense motive tied my bluff :(

While I applaud you trying to defuse this, it's way too late at this point, especially since 'they' saw you (or your allies) take down their partners. Robert just tried to scorch them, Oriana just killed one with her staff, and John just took two shots at them.

As if the 'story' aspect were not enough the 'numbers' don't add up either.

It takes one minute to change someone's attitude (which I can wave away) but the DC of this check is equal to either 10 + your opponent’s total Diplomacy skill bonus, or 15 + 1-1/2 × the opponent’s CR +10 because they are 'hostile' so you're looking at a DC in the high 20s...

You may want to rethink your actions.

Female Lashunta

Alright. I just know that Kamiya isn't much of a fighter so if she could help by talking them down or confusing them, I figured that would be of more help. Let's add the following...

Kamiya didn't have much hope of her verbal words diffusing the situation so she did what she could to confuse the vesk. Using her telepathy she spoke inside the vesk's mind using his own language. "Budek su venovask dostok. Buk bylk ste chodsk vecki."

translation:
You're not getting paid enough. You should be running things.

Going to use clever feint to hopefully cause the vesk to become flat footed for the next round.

Zadie shrieked as she was shot. "You are in so much f@$+ing trouble, lady! My dad is a Steward, and he will shut you down! John! Forget that card-sharp and go shoot that Vesk!" She ran to take up her attorney's previous target and free his cannon for the greater threat. Accessing the nearest amp via her comm, she caused it to emit an ear-piercing shriek to distract the thug before she fired.
