Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Janitor nods to himself at the man's answer. Course he'd be a Stormtrooper--they started letting anybody join up so long as they were human.
"Infantryman, eh? Where all'd you serve, kid?" Janitor asks, his tone growing more conversational. There was a hierarchy of trust in the old Trooper's mind--Fett clones were the most trustworthy, followed by humans, followed by clones of anyone except the original template.
Zaleos Buerlon |
After the greetings are complete and a slight pause, "Who do I need to see about the formalities of re-enlisting?
Zaelos turns his face to the newcomer, a curious look on his face. An odd question. Is this a test? Is this soldier more than he appears to be? Masking his concerns with a polite smile, he answers "I believe these are the correct forms to fill out." He hands over his datapad after loading the correct forms into its memory. Take care to fill out these forms accurately mind you. There are...penalties for failure to comply."
Profession Officer, take 10: 10 + 9 = 19
Darius Lucien |
Darius smirks slightly as Zaleos mentions accuracy and penalties for failure to comply.
Matching what is already there is probably more important than accuracy, at least it got me off that hunk of rock.
Darius takes the datapad from Zaleos and begins completing the forms, while responding to Janitor's question. "Most notably, I fought on Yavin, Rhenvar, and Jabiim. How about you?"
Once he finishes the forms, Darius hands the datapad back to Zaleos.
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Janitor gives a short laugh. "I've been all over, boy. Jumped in Geonosis on the first op we ever did, and from there it's all been downhill, more or less. I think one of the all-time lows has gotta be the mess on Haruun Kal, though. Went in there to do an exfil with the Jedi Master Windu--talk about hell in the galaxy, that's it." Of course, then there was the clone rebellion... Won't talk about that, though. The trooper still ground his teeth at the memories of putting down fellow clones.
Darius Lucien |
Darius seems more interested when Janitor mentions Master Windu.
He could prove to be a source of useful information.
"You'll have to tell me more about your travels with the Jedi. That was something I never had the opportunity to experience."
Looking up from the datapad and handing it back, "I think that should do it.
Darius picks up a duffle bag from the ground next to him and begins walking with the group. "I assume there isn't anywhere around here that I can pick up my standard issue gear?"
Karval de Longinous |
Karval looks on, his concern abating slightly. Suddenly the wariness peaks at Darius' interest in the Jedi; 'Don't be so paranoid everyone's interested in them. Doesn't mean he's a minion of Taintus or Night, he'll be sure to have his own reasons.' the Mandolorean tries to assuage his thoughts.
"We have a couple of ships docked outside, they contain the standard equipment." he says proudly as they walk from the docking area. 'I hope!' he thinks silently, realising that they haven't completed a full-inventory of the vessel.
Shanosuke |
Were going to move this thing along.
Darius's information and credentials check out and your enlistment verification goes through almost instantly. You receive his record and it is very good. Still young but a solid veteran and has more than a few good marks on his record. His falling out happened when the emperor died but the same has happened to many who served the emperor up till them.
The final piece is to add him to your party and move on. He'd be a good addition to be sure.
Once that is all squared away, you make for the base commander's main office. The unique thing about this scenario is that when you were last here, it was Nichos who met with the commander and worked out the details. With Nichos gone, you have to start from scratch in your dealings.
Arriving at the receptionist you approach. The receptionist smiles and greets you. "Good day visitors. We've been expecting you. Yalson said to keep a flexible schedule so she could meet with you as soon as you arrive. You may go in now."
You enter the room and it seems immaculate. There are enough chairs should you chose to sit. Commander Lilica Yalson is standing by the window in the room looking out at her fleet. Once you are settled in the room she turns to you.
Yalson has feint red veins on either side of her head that look peculiar and unnatural.
She smiles. "You have come just as the emissary said you would. So, what is it you have to say? Where is Nichos? What has happened at Malakai? And what proposition do you have for me?"
You can feel a faint and twisted aura emanating from the woman. Something feels wrong about it but you cannot quite place your finger on it.
You have seen this before. The officer you captured on Malakai that died in horrific fashion from dark side force energy felt this way before he died. You can also tell the presence of a strong darksider was here not too long ago. The air seems to stink of it.
Zaleos Buerlon |
Zaelos goes still, almost completely unmoving except for his breath leaving his lungs. He turns his head just a bare fraction towards Arana and nods ever so slightly.
Turning his attention back to the woman, he replies "Greetings Commander. You are remarkably...well-informed. Suffice it to say, things did not go very well for Nichos, who was killed on Malaki by the native wildlife." He pauses and watched her reaction closely.

Remaining standing for a moment, then realises that rather than being alert it'd be better to put the commander at ease. "Well, we have negotiated with the local populace of Malakai - they are in a similar position to yourselves. They are under threat of the Aristocracy, however we managed to forestall the vile Sith - a faction lead by Darth Night." the warrior tries to observe her reaction to the name, all the while in the back of his mind is the warning that she received a visitor from Taintus.
'Plus, her words mark her as one of faith... emissary? Unless that was an emissary from Taintus?' he thinks silently.
"The Empress was wondering if you could reposition the station. The presence near Malakai would be beneficial to both parties." he pauses; "We have been in negotiation with the Aristocracy..." he lets the cynicism fill his voice.

Darius takes a position in the room providing the most tactical opportunities.
Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
He stands, listening to the conversation, to gain a better understanding of the group's current mission and dynamic.
Interesting, they have had some dealings with a Sith that they do not hold in high regard.
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Noticing the commander's oddities, Janitor frowns and, like Darius, moves to a spot that affords him a wide range of fire and clear sights to the Commander, while remaining out of easy sight from the doorway. He stands at what would probably look like an "at ease," though he's as ready to move as he always is. Good, kid, he thinks, noticing Darius. Hopefully we can set up some kind of killzone, if it comes to that.

Shanosuke |
Sorry, I did not realize everyone was waiting on me.
She listens to Karval seeming to be amused. "Darth Night you say? He was one of the other threats to our position in this system. Yes Darth Night believes he should be ruler of the empire but he is little more than the leader of a forgotten group of assassins."
She considers for a moment. "The station has no propulsion of it's own otherwise we wouldn't be stuck here. It needs to be tugged in order to move and the aristocracy has all the tugboats. Besides, we have no interest in working with savages. the empire has never had a need for them before and I see no reason to start now."
Yalson begins to pace. "Our request was simple. We offer you aid to do what you need in this system and in return you send your fleets in to help us against our common enemy the Aristocracy."
She moves behind her desk chair and grips the back of it as she stares at you menacingly. "We were willing to give you the system if you had helped us but instead you offer us primitive soldiers and not a ship more to add to our fleet."
She seems very angry. "Our scouts report that the battle against Darth Night and for Malakai is over and the Aristocracy stands the victor and we are out of time. We have been approached by Darth Taintus, the Dark Lord who is claiming to be the rightful heir to the emperor and is offering us the aid we desire."
She touches and caresses her cheeks touching the marks on her face that, if you had not noticed before, you do now. She seems to be in a state of bliss at the moment. "I for one have had a second hand taste of what power Darth Taintus wields and it is awe inspiring and absolutely amazing. I have complete faith in his abilities as leader."
She moves and then sits in her chair. She crosses one leg over the other and gives you a expectant expression. "So, what power does your empress have. What aid can she offer that counters the offer of Taintus. He offers ships and legions of men, exactly what we asked for. Your Empress has offered tribal soldiers. Exactly what we don't want. Top that." She awaits your answer.
Karval de Longinous |
"Savages often make the best warriors." Karval adds with a gentle rebuke; "You are in need of soldiers. Darth Taintus will only corrupt and destroy you. If you have felt his touch, then you know it is worse than death."
He shakes his head; "We offer peace and security, Taintus will use you as his battleground. The Aristocracy are arrogant but can be stopped, we have whittled their forces down turning them against Darth Night. Their ships are not unstoppable, in fact they are not well armed or run, relying more upon numbers than tactics." The warrior states the obvious and tries to think of something they can offer with their limited resources, whilst simultaneously being disgusted that she would deal with such as Taintus.
Zaleos Buerlon |
Zaelos is silent, his mind racing at the terrifying discovery Taintus had beat them here. He could feel the taint of the Dark side of the Force radiating from her body. How can I persuade her to abandon this path she has chosen, or is it already too late?
He cleared his throat and spoke carefully, trying not to be offensive in any way knowing all of their lives were in great danger. "Commander Yalson, I can feel the anger in your voice, even as I can sense the taint of the one who granted you HIS power. I can assure you should you continue down this path I can see your eventual fate as I have already seen what befell another who was also granted such power." He stood up from his chair, a pleading note in his voice. "I [i]cannot...WILL NOT negotiate with one who has lost the ability to control her fate. My Empress allows you to maintain this. Therefore I urge you to reject the lure of the easy path to power. It will be your doom."

Arana Niss |
Karval and Zaleos' word jar Arana out of the reveirie she had been in, staring at the dark side "sign" on Yalson's cheek.
Leaning on the table in front of the Commander , Arana stares into Yalson's eyes "Though your "taste" of the dark side was sweet this time, it will not be thus in the future. Just like the sweet fruit it will rot and corrupt; until you are nothing but Taintus' play thing. The Dark side has no compassion , no mercy. Taintus is a master, he will "touch" you to tempt you, but he will share nothing. He will use you and your forces to achieve his aims, then discard you , just as he did those Malakai he turned to the dark side. "
Arana's voice cracks with emotion as she finishes, her gaze begging the Commander to think clearly about her choice.
Without being conscious of it, Arana reaches out to the Commander with the Force, seeking to pierce the veil of the Dark Side.

Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Can't say much on it, Janitor thinks, still casting his vision about the room, monitoring it in its entirety a little a time, but from the fight on the Destroyer, them Dark Siders are something else, and none of it good. He frowns, recalling the dangerous power of the Dark Malakai and how easily it batted away the blasts sent its way, even while dueling Taggard.
If it comes to a fight, I'd better draw my slugthrower fast and get a round of lead in her tainted brain before she can do anything.
Na'Soth Ma'lak |
"The Malakai may be primitive in many respects, but they are extremely intelligent and learn quickly. Their's is a harsh land, and their survival is a testament to how strong they are; many would fail to survive even with the benefits of advanced technology where they have thrived with just the very basics. Even if you refuse their aid and the aid of the empress, I will ensure that they are protected from the terror that I have seen these darksiders inflict, for the empress can make use of their talents even if you refuse to see their potential.
The Aristocracy is blind to it's own fate, and will crumble in it's own good time; in the meantime, they can be fooled with the right ploys and tricks. Taintus will meet the same fate as the emperor of late, taken down in due time by his own tactics; whoever the new master of the universe will be, it will not be Taintus or any of his followers. Taintus is no more a long term leader than the old emperor was; he is a very good general to be certain, and more than capable of winning battles, but no more. Fear and terror are not weapons that will win the war on their own, nor can they bring about or sustain peace in any form. You may well be correct that the Empress will fare no better than Taintus, but with allies, she can weather the storm far better than any of the other contenders, especially since with allies, the Alliance will be more likely to treat her as a neutral party rather than a foe.
You look at power now, but I tell you this: none of the current main contenders will win this war. Their power will consume them as they fight impossible multi-front wars that will feed on that power until they are left with empty shells of what they once had. The Aristocracy will be the first to feel it, but the others will follow in due time. What is needed at this hour is not power, but wisdom and patience; the ultimate victor will be the one who is able to play defense while building a solid core of strength while waiting for everyone else to duel each other into oblivion. The empress can do this with sufficient support. The Malakai with their innate strength and survival talents are part of that support. You, with the accumulated martial materials and skills could be another part of it, if you are capable of showing a flexibility that both the Aristocracy and Taintus lack. Ultimately, the empress will be forced to adapt, but the foundation she has laid has the strength to support that kind of flexibility. Taintus is more of the same attitude put forth by the Aristocracy and the old emperor; they may be strong now, but under that screen of strength is a brittle foundation, and the first weakness of any kind will cause them to snap and shatter as the emperor did. If you wish to join them as broken debris floating in the vastness of the current chaos, by all means, feel free to do so, but don't think that their fate will be any different for your choosing. To the empress, you are a valuable ally; to them, you are nothing more a pawn and your concerns will mean nothing to them."
Diplomacy (aid another) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Shanosuke |
She listens to your words and smiles. "Your empress is afraid of open war. Of course. In the galaxy Taintus, Mirianna, and the Alliance are the most powerful forces. Taintus himself already controls the coreworlds and almost half the galaxy. His armies sweep across it all and show no signs of slowing down. The battle for this space will be short and he has already left a garrison here of some of his men. You empress cannot offer me aid. As I have been informed, the rebellion seeks to cripple her empire by striking at her homeworld. Their fleets are preparing for battle as we speak. When the rebellion takes Bakura, Mirianna will lose any remaining credibility and the majority of her assets, if not all of them, will be assimilated into the alliance. Then the only thing left will be for us to either join the Alliance, or Taintus. I don't want a republic and that means the Alliance is out of the question for our aid. Taintus will win this war and he will take this system with or without our help. It only makes sense to side with the stronger power. Does it not?"
She awaits any response you may have.
Darius Lucien |
Hmmm... This does not appear to be going well.
Darius listens to this discussion of Darth Taintus and the taint from the dark side to see if he had come across any relevant information in his research.

Karval de Longinous |
"Some things are more important than strength, are they not?" Karval queries her; "If you were only concerned with strength then you would have joined the Aristocracies forces."
He shakes his head softly; "Honour, pride, ideals. You can survive this, guile and intellect can enable you to ride out the storm. The Sith will destroy you quicker than a blaster bolt...." he shakes his head. "Letting them stay on the station? Think, this isn't like you. Would you really turn the station into an outpost for Taintus. Let him rule you? He has influenced your mind." the Mandolorean insists, even at the back of his mind the futility of it screams against his sensibilities.
Know (Nobility): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 (so is she a 'rebel' Leader, how many others are there?)
Karval blinks away the thoughts of a potential conflict on the Empresses homeworld hoping it will not already be too late. 'And the Malakai, what of them...'
Shanosuke |
Her gaze narrows. "You seem to forget we were loyal to the Sith Emperor who lived before and we still believe in his ideals and goals. We have always been loyal to the Sith Empire and we WANT them to Lord over us and control us. The Aristocracy want independence from both the Sith and the Empire. Because of their arrogance and delusions, we rebelled and remain here at Danaten so we may aid the Sith Empire in retaking control over this space. We were informed your Mirianna was no Sith Lord but an apprentice force user at best. She does not have the cold cruel ambition we desire to rule over us. She has no strength to offer, no authority, no order, and no power." Her tone is darker and more sinister than it was before.
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
This is getting worse, Janitor thinks. Though it might be a distinctly threatening move, he turns his body so his right hip is hidden from the commander and drops his hand onto the grip of the slugthrower, ready to draw. Hate to break up the party, but better I do it than she does.
Karval de Longinous |
"Order and power comes not from mastery of the Force." Karval turns on her; "It comes from a sharp mind, not one so worm ridden as Taintus'. It comes from being able to organise an efficient Empire, to juggle the various communities and ecologies of the Galaxy."
The Mandolorean waxes philosophical; "Palpatine kept order, whereas Taintus brings strife. We will bring back order to the Galaxy, thus ensuring a new Golden Age. You will stand beside us." he says harshly, seeing that she understands power and determination (like any school-yard bully).
Shanosuke |
She sits up. "It is clear you have nothing real to offer. Words are worth less than the scuff marks on my boots. That said, we have nothing further to discuss." The doors open behind you and about 12 stormtroopers bearing the purple stripe enter and position themselves professionally on either side of you.
Yalson stands up. "It is distasteful to kill ambassadors and I see no reason to do it anyways. Therefore these fine troops of Taintus will escort you to your ships and you can begone from our system. Go on, before I change my mind."
Janitor, make me a knowledge tactics and/or Profession soldier check please.
Arana Niss |
Arana straightens to berate Yalson once again when the troopers enter. Turning her head slightly she sees the purple stripe adorning their armor.
It takes a super-human effort for her not to attack immediately, though her face darkens and Zaleos can sense the Force roiling about her.
"You've made your bed then." she spits at Yalson "You'll find that it about as comfortable as a Sarlacc Pit.". She then turns and strides from the room, anger flowing off of her in palpable waves.
Darius Lucien |
Not sure if I should make the profession check as well, if not then just ignore.
Profession(Soldier): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Also, would my character know what the purple stripe means?
Darius looks to the others to judge their reactions, his senses heightening as he prepares for a fight, while trying to appear as though he is not a threat.
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Sorry I wasn't on earlier to make these!

Profession (soldier): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Will post actions and such once I know what the stripe means (presuming I find out).
Na'Soth Ma'lak |
Na'soth remains quiet until they are back on their ship. "So the fools insist on destroying themselves. I had feared this would be the case. At least our options are clear at this point. Take as many promising Malakai recruits as you can with your ships, and the rest of the Malakai will need to go into hiding as much as possible until the dust clears. I will remain on Malaki to guide their training as best I can and coordinate future actions as much as possible with your empress. As much as my blood longs for the freedom of space, the Malakai have been kind to me, and I cannot simply abandon them. Malaki is a large planet, and even Taintus' forces cannot easily control the ground; a quiet resistance should be possible for a short time, though I would encourage your empress to act quickly against Taintus to the largest degree possible to take pressure off not just herself, but Malaki, and dozens of systems like it."
Karval de Longinous |
"We should scan the station, any information we can give the Aristocracy may help them disable the station... rather than destroying it." Karval says as they board their ship; 'Thus saving lives of the innocent.'
"And it may mean that the Aristocracy may trust us more." he then looks to Na'Soth, a distressed look on his face. "Na'Soth you are leaving us? Well, it's a noble thing you do. The Tribe need protecting and who better?"
Zaleos Buerlon |
Zaelos nods in agreement. "Agreed. I suspect we will need the tactical information ourselves as well." He turns to the captain and shakes his head. "Unfortunately Captain, things did NOT go very well. It seems as if the Chiss rebels have thrown in with our enemies. Set course for Malaki and be on the lookout for enemy forces. It would not surprise me in the least if Taintus is waiting for us."
Once the Captain has departed, he turns to the others. "Well, I do not believe the Aristocracy will be pleased by this turn of events. I am looking for suggestions as to what to say to him."
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Janitor grows quiet as he looks at these clones, and once back on the ship, he sits, musing... Brethren...
He looks up at Zaleos as he mentions the importance of bewaring potential enemy forces, and then at Karval as the Mandalorean mentions a possible attack on Danaten. "Anything to avoid going into battle with them," Janitor says gruffly, rubbing a hand on his slugthrower's grip. "A direct fight against Danaten's troops would be very unwise." Not divulging more for the moment, the trooper heads to his cabin in the ship, murmuring to himself, a hard and somewhat distressed look in his eyes.
Arana Niss |
When the others left the conference room, Arana at first didn't notice, so caught up was she in her memories of Dathomir.
She runs to catch up, visible distressed. However, she waves off any inquiry as to the nature of her upset.
Once on the shuttle, she says "I'm sorry for leaving like that...it's just that...those troopers with the purple stripe. " she wipes a stray tear from her cheek, "They're the ones that took Dathomir...and what's more, seeing them again , so close...it brought back horrible memories I rather forget. But those memories include the fact that those troopers on Dathomir all had the same face....I know, you think I don't remember right, but I killed enough of those bastards to know."
Trooper A-337, "Janitor" |
Janitor turns at Arana's comments, and his eyes grow even harder and colder. "No, you're right, girl." His voice is hoarse. "I'm just surprised they didn't look like me. Those boys in there probably do--clones, the lot of them. Well-trained, too... Probably would've been ARC-troopers like me, and might be if they're that old." He exhales deeply. "The stripe is a sign of discipline and prestige, skill at arms and in combat. Those boys are about as damned good at what they do as the Five-Oh-First." He groans again and, realizing his fists are clenched, forces them open. "We don't need a fight with them, and I don't want to have to face my own brothers, if that's what they are. I've had enough of that already."
Shanosuke |
No response to Janitor's revelation? Bummer. Well, I am going to assume you want to contact the Aristocracy and return to Malakai, moving on.
You return to the destroyer with your new trooper in tow.
The Captain plots a course for Malakai. While on the way you all set up in the long range holographic comm room and hyperlink to the Aristocracy's spokesman's communicator. It isn't long before Aristocracy member and spokesman Braun appears.
He greets you pleasantly. "Did you get what you aqquired from the Danaten rebels? I bet they wouldn't surrender would they."
Karval de Longinous |
Been a really busy weekend. (The only one with good weather I'll get)
"501, who are they? Clones from the original Wars?" the Gladiator asks. "They did look like powerful warriors."
To ambassador Karval bows; "It was an interesting fact finding mission. The leaders have been corrupted by the insidious Darth Taintus. However they don't have any extra destroyers, mostly powerful ground troops and I believe we can give you a more detailed scan with intel about the situation?" he looks to Janitor and Darius. "If that would be of any use?" he adds leadingly.
Zaleos Buerlon |
Zaelos turns to face Janitor, "This is a most troubling development. Knowing your martial prowess and seeing a battalion of these troops working for our enemy..." His voice trails off.
Turning his attention to the Ambassador, he adds "Yes, it seems your Rebels have cast their lot with our enemies. I can safely tell you Taintus will not be hesitant in providing the Danaten Rebels with additional military assets. Since the old saying 'the enemy of my enemy is my ally' looks applicable here we can certainly provive you with some assisstance, however it would be up to the Empress to ascertain how deep our alliance should go."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Darius Lucien |
Sorry, I was camping with no technology this past weekend.
Hearing Janitor's comments regarding the purple armband, Darius responds, "I had never seen that marking before. If they are as tough as that band purports them to be, then its a good thing we didn't have to engage them."
Something wasn't right with that woman. Is that what the force does to people?
During the course of the travels, Darius will inquire "Who is Darth Taintus? Beyond notifying the Empress of the impending attack, what is our current mission?"
During the conversation with the ambassador, when Karval looks toward Darius and Janitor, Darius gestures to Janitor in an effort to show deference to his status as a senior trooper in responding to the question.
Shanosuke |
The Ambassador wears an unpleasant scowl on his face as he ponders for a moment. After considering your words he speaks. "Then it seems we have no other choice in the matter. I have more pull with the Aristocracy leaders than most of the members, that is why I am spokesman. I offer your Empress this. We do not seek the rule of any other than our own government but that does not mean we are unwilling to form allegiances, reluctant perhaps but not unwilling. What we need then is good faith. You help us, we help you. We work together and we can each have our piece of the galaxy and snuff out our enemies together. Thus brings me to our first proposal. It is a tall order but one we must ask. We fought and defeated Darth Night's forces but at great cost. We cannot afford more losses like that if we are to hold against Taintus and furthermore, we cannot sit by and allow Danaten to grow stronger."
Braun straightens up and looks as dignified as possible. "We ask you for ships and strategies in taking Danaten. The station itself is of considerable use to us and we do not wish to destroy it. The enemy fleet will have to be crushed but we need more ships and better tacticians. Your Empress has the loyalty of famed strategist Commander Tavoes under here and any stratigic aid he can offer would ensure us victory. Also, if we can take the station itself and destroy the rebels flagship, then we can probably force their surrender. In return, we will send ships to aid you in the defense of your own when needed. We would also be willing to share resources of Malakai as well. The threat Taintus poses to us is to great for us to be stubborn. Will you consider this?"
