Star Wars: Chronicles (Inactive)

Game Master DM Xyro

Star Wars: Chronicles is a Star Wars RPG campaign using the Edge of the Empire/Age of Rebellion/Force and Destiny rules from Fantasy Flight Games (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/#/universe/star-wars).

The concept of this campaign is episodic (taking place after the Battle of Yavin, during the time of the Episode 4-6 movies), similar to the style of the Star Wars: Rebels television series. The characters will be making a living for themselves any way they can as well as taking the odd job from the Rebel Alliance to further the aims of the Rebellion.

DM Xyro:

Hi GM, just wanted to make clear, as these blips are appearing from the rocky background, are they visible from the ship, or still underground? Just wondered whether they were something I could try targeting with ship's weapons. Apart from that, I'm thinking of leaving the ship to go help but not sure how much I'll actually to be able to contribute. I'll maybe need to come up with a Plan C.

Aristi's eyes go wide as looks at the sensor screen. "Whoa! Kara, Juviest! Get out of there quick! I see ten contacts bearing down on you, they don't look like dumb animals either." The Bothan casts about the cockpit, looking for ideas how help the others. His eyes come to rest on the external comms...

DM Xyro:

One last question! If Aristi tries to rig the comms so that they blare out loud music or something to try to lure the bogeys away from the others and towards the ship, would you ask for a Computers check or Deception check? Would you require a destiny pool point to confirm that we had suitable audio files loaded into the ship's records?

Aneira fully looks around the room, before checking over both screens. She checks to see if they both have power and data input, then tries to interpret what's on the lit screen, followed by seeing if the blank screen really is that, or whether it's black on black text/background for instance.

Kara, Juv and Aristi:

Kara's shot hits true and knocks the creature on it's back, though it quickly right itself and continues to charge. That is when you notice that you are being charged by several creatures from all sides.where did the crit come from?

Juv's shots nearly finishes off a second creature.

creatures are now at short range

Aristi:
the blips are creatures emerging form the rocks and charging Kara and Juv. you can see the them visually now also. you can fire the weapons but you will need to leave the cockpit and go to the turret. I would call it a hard (3 purple) unskilled (green only) intellect check to know when to queue the "music" to scare the beasts.

Thrask:
The slice of the blade lops the creature's head off sending it spinning across the cave. you retrieve the head and make it nearly out of the cave. the second beast pounces, its claws digging into your flesh as the the beast's mouth clamps down on your shoulder knocking you to the ground and locking on. claws 8 damage pre-soak, bite also 8 damage pre-soak. you are knocked prone and are ensnared by the bite (cant take a maneuver for one turn)

Djbelle:
down the passage into the floor the light begins the dim. after what seems 100 yards in you can no longer see the way you came. ahead a dark figure crosses the path, barely noticeable, and the sound of several sets of boots clicking on the stone floor echo through the passage.

Aniera:
Both terminals are powered up. The screen with the endless stream of characters seems to be a code of sorts. the other has a blinking input curser but know noticeable input devices.

"Oh you're aged all right. Skin like a bantha's behind." Kara quips with Juviest as the creature falls from her shot.

Then it gets back up.

The grin leaves her face as Kara flips the switch for autofire on the Czerka rifle. She has to take some of these down. Taking aim, she lets it rip. Trying to hit two targets here, first shot on the one I wounded, and then on to the second one.

autofire roll 3S, 1A, 1 Triumph! 13 damage again on the wounded one, 13 plus the Triumph on the second one. I'd like to use the Triumph to finish the second one.

Bright red energy lashes out from Kara's blaster rifle. The wounded creature takes another hit square in the chest. Without looking to see if it is down, she traverses the big rifle left. Sighting down another, she holds down the trigger. Another bolt hits it square in the face, turning it into a red ruin.

She lets out her held breathe, not even knowing she was holding it.

Oops, really thought I'd have lots of opportunities for posts last week, but things didn't turn out as expected. Just catching up yesterday and today.

DM Xyro:

Aristi flings himself at the controls, modulating the speakers and hurriedly trying to find sound files. Finally he punches the button for the external speakers and blaring, reedy voices thunder out in stereo. Emurrian opera. "Blast! Didn't mean to play that one!" Aristi gives up on this ropy plan and instead heads for the turret. Kara and Juviest seemed to be holding their own, but he was determined to help in some way.

Ok I'll give it a try with the music. If I can use one of the destiny points to boost an ability die up to a proficiency die.
Intellect check - 3 Failures, 1 Advantage Ooh, tough luck. I'll use the advantage to gain extra movement, to try to get to the turret more quickly.

Just in case I don't get an opportunity to check in for a few days, if I can make a roll for my next action. My intention is to run to the dorsal turret and target the nearest beast to try to keep them away from the others.

Gunnery check - 2 Success, 1 Threat - damage 6 + 2

Aristi reaches the turret and quickly fires up the controls. The laser sight comes up and he squeezes off a shot at the nearest creature.

Also the difference in silhouette makes it's a harder difficulty to hit. I can't say by how much but I think it is at least 4 dice of difficulty as silhouette of a humanoid is on a different scale than of a starship. But for every two silhouette the difficulty goes up by one and assuming you can't go negatives, a human would be a size 0 on the silhouette scale for starships.

Yes assuming I manage to hit anything the starship damage would be a whole magnitude more damage. I forgot to mention that in the post. And yeah I reckon the difficulty should be higher, not knowing the silhouette of the creatures I just guessed and it seemed the convention for this campaign is to roll two difficulty unless specified otherwise and if needed GM Xyro would roll the difference. I'm not sure whether Aristi could hit the broadside of a barn but as Thrask says I'm hoping just shooting at them will drive them off or prove enough of a distraction. More than the blaring music did, I think. Just trying to be helpful. :)

Well with a closed box system meaning there's no way to influence what is being drawn it's down to the worst case scenario. What's the range? To the big creature?

Wiping his forehead, Juviest chuckles as he sees the big creature, then pats Thrask's shoulder. "Well, well, Trandoshan.", he says, lighting up a cigar. "Does your Scorekeeper let you share?", he chuckles, bringing his blasters up. At the press of a button, the hiss of coolant echoes and steam starts raising from the blasters. Letting out a puff himself, he takes a duelist's stance, drawing a bead on the big monster.

Firing at the big one when he can, 2S, 2A for 13 and 9 damage, one advantage to boost next roll

"Get on the ship already!" Aristi growls after hearing that loud shriek. He strains to look out the viewport, but can't get a view of what was making that noise. He doesn't like the look of the masses of creatures streaming down the cliff walls. He grips the controls, waiting for the creatures to come into range and wondering how quickly he can get the engines warmed for take-off.

DM Xyro:

What's the terrain like between the ship's current position and where the characters currently are, or the cave entrances? Wondering if I can land nearer and pick them up. I'll probably move back up to the cockpit.

Thrask grins and looks upwards towards the big one. He licks the vibrosword. "The Scorekeeper would allow such a thing, but she is a fickle goddess and if you do not worship her and put yourself in her service then she will not reward you in the forever. This matter...would reward incredible bounty if taken as a solo hunt but it would prove a matter of life and death, even with help that may prove to be true. I should force you all inside..."" he began as he started to step towards the creature.

His heart beat faster with each step. The fear, the anticipation of the fight to come. He stood in the clearing, waiting for the beast and giving the group time to gather again.

Djebelle bursts out of the cave, running as hard as she can. "On - my - way - do - NOT - leave - me - here - hon - please -"

She saves her breath for harder running, having seen the beasts approaching the ship.

range is currently long, but it will close to medium at the end of the round

The second LED lights green. The screen changes again showing another puzzle. What are the next three numbers in this series? 4, 6, 12, 18, 30, 42, 60, 72, 102, 108, ?, ?, ?

aristi:
they are right outside the ship and the floor of the cavern is basically flat

everyone but Aneira:
the large beast jumps to the ground and begins moving at a high rate of speed toward you and the ship. The smaller ones also begin their rush. the beast is also large so a size category larger than a humanoid.

Standing at the base of the ship's ramp, rifle in hand, Kara watches the thing and smaller ones scale down the walls. Then Djebelle breaks from the cave and sprints to the ship. Kara takes a look toward the place where Aniera disappeared.

'...dammit...'

"Everyone on board ASAP. We can't take them all. Focus on the big one until Djebelle gets here, then we are blasting off. Reb, you have 30 seconds..." Kara estimates, watching the beasts move, "after that, we won't be able to keep the ramp clear. You'll be on your own."

'...don't know how many times I had to say it....'

Kara takes aim at the big one, blasting away at it as it approaches.

DM:

Ah ok so the previous two riddles I've known as a player and figured Aneira is smarter than me so haven't worried about using my knowledge for her, this last question though... wow! I couldn't figure it out at all and had to resort to Google to solve, so definitely complicated enough for Aneira to roll!

Will go with Education as the most appropriate, Aneira has Codebreaker which allows her to decrease the difficulty when codebreaking, which the sequence kind of is... but long story short I've left the difficulty as 2, feel free to adjudicate as you see fit!

Sat there in her safe zone in front of a computer, the warmth drains from Aneira's body as the complex mathematical question appears.

Oh frick...

she chews her lip as she tries to sort the numbers, have them make sense, but no amount of juggling seems to do it. Finally she calms herself once more and closes her eyes, she feels the presence of what others have called the Force, but she just knows is as the universe turning around her for a moment when she is in need... she thinks back to her lessons long ago, her mind distracted... but yes, the fragment of a textbook, a tutor's voice, the formula was there somewhere...

Education: 3 successes, 1 threat

The answer comes like surfacing from a deep dive, the feel of sunlight and air on skin, the answer presents itself and she smiles.

It's all about Prime numbers isn't it? she marvels finally, each of those in the sequence is flanked by Prime numbers!

She quickly does some number crunching in her head

So 138, 150 and 180 then!

She types these in and hits enter, curious to know what will happen when all three lights go green. That's *if* all three lights go green. She chews a finger absent-mindedly as her stomach tenses in anticipation.

Threat taken in stress as she worries she's done the wrong thing with the whole test, and momentarily wonders if it's all some massive self delusion...
