Spire City (Inactive)

Game Master Mysterious Narrator

Beauty, mystery and horrific murder.

Story:

Spire city a place with tall buildings, fast cars, golden beaches, beautiful people and horrific murder... Over the past month bodies have been found crucified and slashed up in dark ally's and inside once warm homes by what the news has deemed the Countdown killer. Each body has been found with an ominous number in the victims own blood painted next to it. So far the numbers have been and in this order: 13,12,11...

Spire is a fascinating City with ancient medieval ruins within certain areas and a lot more in the surrounding area outside the city. It has been said treasures and mysterious artifacts may be held within some of these ruins but people who have tried to obtain them have said strange and dark forces chased them out. There are also rumors that deep under Spire there is a massive labyrinth. And even crazier stories tell that horrific murderous creatures roam inside of it.

Goal: So you will be average folk in a modern city setting. It is a L.A inspired city in style, size and population. Your goal is to solve the mysteries in your normal life You are exceptional people who have been having strange dreams that leave you wondering what they could mean.

Hey, happy to see this is up! I'll make an application if I can get a good concept going.

Will this be the pathfinder or d&d version of d20 modern? If it's the original d&d version, what sources are allowed when building characters? Also, 20pb in d20 modern is quite a really small amount - it equates to roughly an 8 point buy in pathfinder. This is only an issue if we aren't playing the pathfinder version, anyway.

It is Pathfinder.

I don't expect to get a lot of folks, so those that make a character feel free to dot in gameplay.

I am open to some form of transportation for each player.

Interested. Anyone know where I could get a copy of the D20 Modern character rules online?

Ask our Gm of call of the abyss I bet he knows. I know him irl and he always seems to have that kind of info.

What I Used for Character Build

Another Thing a Ma Jig I Found/Used

Meet Tony! I'm currently wrapping up his backstory/ description, but he is essentially a drunk, and is a drunk because, yup, you guessed it, he's an ANXIOUS m!~!~$ f&+%%@!

Thanks for the link, that helps a lot. Looks good. I look forward to this drunkards backstory.

So I'll just re-skin Xanders profile when Call of the Abyss ends, coz I like the name, but here is what I have. I think it is okay... I dunno.

Talents
Charm (Opposite Gender): The Charismatic hero gets a competence bonus on all Charisma-based skill checks made to influence members of his chosen gender. (Some characters are charming to members of the opposite gender, others to members of the same gender.) The bonus is equal to the character’s Charismatic level.

A Charismatic hero can only charm Gamemaster characters with attitudes of indifferent or better. The charm bonus can’t be used against characters who are unfriendly or hostile.

Favor: The Charismatic hero has the ability to acquire minor aid from anyone he or she meets. By making a favor check, a Charismatic hero can gain important information without going through the time and trouble of doing a lot of research. Favors can also be used to acquire the loan of equipment or documents, or to receive other minor assistance in the course of an adventure.

A Charismatic hero spends 1 action point to activate this talent. To make a favor check, roll a d20 and add the character’s favor bonus, equal to the character’s Charismatic level. The GM sets the DC based on the scope of the favor being requested. The DC ranges from 10 for a simple favor to as high as 30 for formidable and highly dangerous, expensive, or illegal favors. A Charismatic hero can’t take 10 or 20 on this check, nor can the hero retry the check for the same (or virtually the same) favor. Favors should help advance the plot of an adventure. A favor that would enable a character to avoid an adventure altogether should always be unavailable to the character, regardless of the result of a favor check.

I didn't know what deities we were using so I just went with the Greek. And I didn't know how much cash I should have so I just left out that and gear for now.

Basically he is a DJ in one of the Clubs in Spire City. He is cocky, narcissistic and self involved. He has a cocaine addiction and tends to just use and abuse people. He believes he is a lot more famous than he is and thinks he is better than most people.

** spoiler omitted **...

Nice. As for Deities It I am fine with whatever this world is pretty much an alternate Earth. So they are all over the place on religion.

Yup, since mine is an alcoholic I had him follow Dionyssus. Figured no harm no foul since the deity doesn't give him anything extra / etc.

He is finished! Enjoy his backstory!

Thanks. It is appreciated.

I am thinking four to five players.

Here we go!

When you get a chance please put a introduction post in gameplay. Thanks.

I'll take two more players. If I get one more and it takes too long to get the second I'll start the game with four.

Bump.

Looking at the rules tonight.

Glad to hear it.:)

Here's the beginning of my alias. Plan on being a Charismatic Hero with the Investigator occupation. James is a detective in the SCPD (Spire City Police Department) and has be one of the detectives assigned to deal with a number of the gruesome murders plaguing the city.
This being said, he has a flask of strong liquor with him at all times and a ragged pack of smokes in his inner coat pocket.

Despite his roughshod appearance he's a good man at heart and is known as a skilled tactician when events call for it.

Whaddya think?

I like what you came up with. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I *love* that we all smoke, and I literally cannot wait to find out a reason to make an in-game smoker circle <3

Consider this to be my new "what's the DC on the Window" fixation xD

BUMP.

Last call, I am closing this thread soon.

Closing Sunday.

Spot open. Anyone interested?

Any takers? preferably a policeman/woman or a detective character. Though I am open to whatever.

I am interested, but just saw this thread for the first time.

I would be willing to do a policeman or detective. Actually, I'd be willing to have my character crowdsourced if that gets things going more quickly. Never played a Pathfinderized version of Modern, but have run some d20 modern games.

How about a Police Detective Dedicated hero or a C.S.I. Smart Hero?

Either or would be fine.

Are the rules differences more in combat, like having CMD? If so, I have plenty of resources. Otherwise there isn't much for Dedicated on that wiki. Or am I missing a better source for rules?

Tumbler Try this Hope it helps. You can use this too. If you want.

Sorry, had trouble finding an elegant and simple way to create a character that fused Pathfinder rules with Modern classes, so I am working it up by hand. I am working on an Irish/Japanese CSI with a military background. Airforce Academy, Pilot-Physician program,a little more clean cut than some of the other characters. He should have a dark secret, I'm just not sure what it is yet. Not sure what sort of wars have been going on in this Alternate Earth, but he has seen some s*%~. He is a competent doctor, but doesn't want to work with the living anymore, so he has applied his training to forensics.

Here is what I have so far. It is kind of a mess, but I will clean it up and work on the details.

Savant: Select one of the skills listed in the following paragraph. The hero must have ranks in the skill if it is Trained Only. The Smart hero gets to add a bonus equal to his or her Smart level when making checks with that skill.
Exploit Weakness: After 1 round of combat, the Smart hero can designate one opponent and try to find ways to gain an advantage by using brains over brawn. The Smart hero uses a move action and makes an Intelligence check (DC 15) with a bonus equal to his or her Smart level. If the check succeeds, for the rest of the combat the Smart hero uses his or her Intelligence bonus instead of either Strength or Dexterity bonus on attack rolls as the hero finds ways to outthink his opponent and notices weaknesses in his opponent’s fighting style.
