Ready for joust

Coff Coff I missed that part Coff Coff

"He sounds like a good candidate Marcus, Jon Roxton is famous and would serve with you well, you just have to convince him to doing so, which he won't do for free, but know that you can count at least with our household knights that are of great skill also, and maybe the few sworn swords we do have if you come short on the list"

The Joust
All of the Small folk are present and most nobles, as the first day it's just cutting down the chaff. Then again the small folk are all gathered here to view the knights and their colors fly, and maybe a knight or two also.

Jousting Rules

Spoiler:

You are charging.
There is no initiative.
Your attack rolls is fighting+spears+animal handling. You keep a number of dice equal to your Fighting -1.
The jousting lance has 1B requirement so you need to have at least 1B in Spears to use or you have a -2D. That means if you have Spears 2, you only use 1 bonus dice from spears also.
Your damage is Animal Handling +3, +2 Damage from charging. The total is Animal Handling +5 per DoS. if you have the Strength specialty you add 1 per bonus dice (ouch).
Animal Handling(Ride) test to stay in the saddle. The difficulty is determined by the number of DoS: 9/12/15/18. Remember that any injuries or wounds you take to reduce the damage apply to the check!
In between each pass you may take one (and only one) Catch Your Breath action.

Ser Byron Swann "The Auroch" rides a grey rounsey. The Swann's black and white colors flutter in the breeze, and the knight rides proudly before the crowd, and bows directly to the Prince before going to gather his lance.

In these latter rounds, it never hurts to be cautious. Ser Byron has decided to begin every match riding low, in order to safely measure his opponent. There will be a time when he would ride fearlessly into the lance of any foe, but not on the initiation tilt were he will gauge his opponent strength. If deservedly or not, it was still to be seen, but even with a predictable strategy his jousting opponents were failing to best his riding. With a last nod to Ser Kevan, he lowered his visor and spurred forwards.

Garran found a small training bow, and took Kritus down to the archery range. Showing him how to hold a bow, he instructed him in how to shoot the bow with a target sufficiently close that the boy would have a chance of hitting it. As he did so, he kept an eye on the other archers, trying to see who seemed to have the skill to shoot Weyland during the hunt.

You are fortunate to not have been blinded or worse. Never lock eyes on your target unless you are certain your skill is greater.

Matthias lets his words sink in for a moment before continuing, Well done though. For it earned you a victory. I would recommend bowing out before the next round. It wouldn't due for the heir of House Naelareon to be unable take his rightful place...plus I would rather Cassondria not have the satisfaction of taking the seat. I wanted the Blackwoods to know that I am not afraid of the Freys. "

Singing Contest Early Evening
Both Princess Rhaenyra and Queen Alicent are great patrons of the arts, both women are well aware of the potential for statues, song and stained glass to sway their subjects.

Nominally, both women have put aside political differences to host an evening of song, but the reality is likely to prove different. An artfully chosen song, remembered correctly and delivered well can deliver a point as well as any speech.

A game is made of events, with participants free to choose a song, but selected from particular genres or historic periods according to the capricious audience's whims.

Participants: anyone

Challenge
Knowledge TN (9) to select a politically appropriate song. The audience participation element (constantly shifting periods and genres) means someone else can't make this roll beforehand for you.
Cunning (Memory) TN (9) to recall the song properly as you perform it.
Persuade (Charm) TN (12) - to sing in a moving fashion. If you've got qualities that you think should apply, please note them in your post and I'll rule on it. E.g. "I have Mummer, I should have +3 to my roll". Charm is the default option, but I'm quite open to people using seduce or convince if roleplayed properly, and wackier options if you make a convincing case!

Failing either of the rest two rolls still lets you attempt the final roll - you just can't quite select something to make the sharp political point you want, or forget a crucial verse etc.

Passing the Knowledge roll = +1B to Persuade roll, +1D if 2 DoS or better.
Passing the Cunning roll = +1B to Persuade roll, +1D if 2 DoS or better.

Consequences
Highest Persuade (Charm) roll +1 glory (whether or not all three tests passed)
Pass all three tests: +1 glory
Highest Persuade (Charm) score among those who passed all three rolls - +1 to black or green. [Anyone who fails either of the first two rolls can elect to sing an overt song in praise of Rhaenyra or Alicent and therefore still be counted in this category. This will be a VERY public show of support - it will bolster the morale of that side's followers if you sing well or win, but will possibly annoy both sides due to your lack of subtlety]

You will still have plenty of time to do as you wish, yes?" He offered. "Besides, you'll get a good a chance to laugh at me after I sing." he offered as he stood up and moved off to get dressed for the occasion.

Marcus recalling some text from his military books about some well-written song regarding events of some done battle decided he might as well go for it, as if to reflect the prowess of House Naelareon.

Clearing his throat and beginning to sing "A castle, a fortress, beaten by the storm! Standing and watching, over the fields of green, blue, yellow and grey. Time is ruthless, the weather does not forgive but the castle and its inhabitants dutifully not abandoning their post, always watchfull"

Painting a picture with words describing the situation of realm from different times, a loyal and dutiful people serving the royalty, doing their best and giving effort for the right things. I would imagine him singing something about times during the First Men or Andal Invasion

Matthias smiled good naturedly at Darne's self deprecation. I'm sure you will do well Darne. I wonder how Lady Ranel will react to my escorting Lady Sosan to the Singing competition? He then submits himself to the Maesters to insure he was none the worse for ware, before heading off to get dressed for the occassion himself.

When Matthias reaches the Naelareon grounds, he finds a page, When Gileon Darry arrives or if he is here, find him and send him to me. I would like to meet my squire before this evenings festivities.

Darne mulls over a few songs in his head trying to remember one that was taught to him. He remembered a bit of old poetry and felt it best given his romantic nature and began to sing for the crowd.

He moved about the floor, moving from one table to the other as each verse was complete locking eyes with a maiden as he did. He started at the table with the Princess and the Queen, moving from there to the Strong House, moving on to the Blackwoods, the Keaths, a table he did not know, and finally finishing before the Princesses table.

I cannot live a minute without you
My love, it was destined to be.

I want to stay with you
I want to become your shadow
To alleviate every wound
That hurts you...

To close my eyes
And die when you kiss me
I want to stay with you
For ever...!

I feel you, I adore you, and I desire you
And if I ever lose you, I will go crazy.

I want to stay with you
I want to become your shadow
To alleviate every wound
That hurts you...

To close my eyes
And die when you kiss me
I want to stay with you
For ever...!

The Prince is amused by Darne, or maybe him and lord Domeric have the same smile when they want to kill someone, you will never know.

Lady Helna Bracken goes to the minstrels to quickly go over the timing of when the instruments will come in...the first part of the song she has in mind is a capella. Then she makes her way over to the center of the great hall. Though she handles it well, her heart is beating fast, and she clasps her hands together to keep them from shaking. It wasn't that she had stagefright exactly...she was just very conscious about how an error here could cost her.

But nothing ventured, nothing gained. And she did like to sing.

The song she'd selected was one that dated back, so it was said, to the Long Night. It was a lullaby, to calm children and adults alike. It felt appropriate to her now, with the unrest between Blackwoods and Freys, with the pall cast over the tourney, and with the fainter but larger shadow of the looming 'Blacks and Greens' conflict like a distant storm on the horizon. Uneasy times, but they could be endured.

A great many things Helna did passed through the filters and editors in her own mind, weighing and judging, yaying and naying before they ever saw expression in word or deed. The song was not one of them. From the moment she opened her mouth, her desire that it be true was evident. Her voice was high and clear, and she captured both the melancholy of it, and the reckless, empowering hope of it. The music started on cue, quietly at first, but building to the end, where the song assured the listeners that the better future would come not from passively waiting, but from the taking of action, and the decision to stand and make it happen.

Shadows fall and hope has fled,
Steel your heart
The dawn will come.

The night is long,
and the path is dark.
Look to the sky...
For one day soon the dawn will come.

The shepherd's lost
and his home is far.
Keep to the stars,
the dawn will come.

The night is long,
and the path is dark.
Look to the sky...
For one day soon the dawn will come.

Bare your blade
and raise it high.
Stand your ground,
the dawn will come.

The night is long,
and the path is dark.
Look to the sky...
For one day soon the dawn will come.

Awareness Notice for Matthias TN 15

Spoiler:
Gileon Darry has been shadowing you since you arrived, standing close to you as a squire should, but this one is a smart one not bringing attention to himself to avoid you giving him orders, but still remaining by his knights side.
