I was going for a hired guy, less of a cohort, more of a dude who can carry my s+!$. I don't want him to fight or do anything other than literally do my lifting. Is that really a cohort? I mean I could hire a normal person for nothing right?
Hmm I see the Cohort ability now. When can we spend Destiny Points to gain abilities? I think having a Cohort makes a lot of sense for Tristen.
YOu can win one through RP, there are plenty of lesser knights in the Household that can be "elevated", but having a underling as your protection is not a big deal, just going to have stats similar to an average knight.

Wynnter isn't stupid! She wouldn't give a book on warfare or military. Mainly because she doesn't want to send the wrong message, and because of it comes to eat with them those books would be too valuable.
Wynnter cannot make that check, at all... She only has 3 dice in Cunning... So does that mean she automatically fails to remember what she said?

Dice mechanics work as this. You get to roll a number of dice equal to your Stat (In this case Knowledge is 4) + any bonus dice you may have.
Then when the roll is completed you subtract down to your stat based in dice.
So if I were to roll my Fighting while using a spear it would be. Fighting 3 Spears 2

This does not shock me, but I think it will shock the other.
A maester page has 0 value, they are worth nothing really. It's like giving away your credit card and social security to someone in exchange for a loaf of bread or less.

Yes just check who has the highest roll so he roles and the other one supports.
Support is normally half your stat as a bonus rounded down.
