DM Frogfoot |
Excellent, Sinathel, thank you.
Idea.
Hawke's unconscious body was found by a druid. Sinathel is a druid who has seen visions of the danger that follows Hawke. How about this: it was one part of Sinathel's vision that led the old druid to Hawke's caravan to save his life. Perhaps she was even there when Hawke awoke. Does that sound cool to you guys?
Captain Fremont |
Based off how he reacted already, I would see him acting rather harshly towards others in an attempt to keep them at a distance. Using their disdain for his actions as a way to keep from growing attached to them.
In combat, he will seem to be a loose cannon, seemingly having no care whether he lives or dies.
However, having been with the group for a bit, they might have caught glimpses of something more. Like suddenly putting himself in mortal danger to save them from some kind of harm.
DM Frogfoot |
Yes, yes....and Kana, the old druid - we'll call him Brother Thimblewinter - trusts your attunement to the pain of the natural world acutely. Your visions, inscrutable though they may seem when you first have them, always turn out to be true.
Your visions show a dire fate indeed on Hawke's heels. The man walks through life with demons of doubt and self-recrimination nipping at his fingers, causing his fists to clench. His inner spirit roils where the strands of Fate have touched it. Dark is his path, and foul his doom may be, yet you sense that he can be turned back even now from the path of self-destructive fury. Even now, when he faces the greatest pain of his life, peace is still a possible outcome of his future.
Regarding your tell - do you have green irises, or is the entire eye green? And what species of feather do you have in your hair? Helps me imagine your character in my mind's eye, which helps me write about her. I'm a visual thinker like that - that's why I often include reference pictures in my campaigns.
Can't wait to see the barbarian and ranger coming up next.
Captain Fremont |
I could see Hawke being big on repaying debts, even before he turned toward the worst. While he once was rather jolly about telling others they did not need to repay him for his actions, he now feels that everyone needs to repay their debts. Thusly he feels like the Barbarian owes him for saving his/her life. It also helps explain why he feels such a great need to repay those that passed while under his watch. He feels like he will never be able to repay them until he meets them in the next world. What do you think?
DM Frogfoot |
Definitely. I would almost imagine a man who was formerly so happy holding other people to a higher standard than himself - fiercely kicking himself for any failure, large or small, and shrugging when someone fails him. After all, who should care enough to pay back a debt to a failure of a fighter who can't even protect his own son?
These are the thoughts I imagine your character having - but it's your character. It really depends on how he copes with the pain of loss of his son and loss of his pride.
Kana |
Well I started sketching her last night, so if I can get it to a good point, I'll scan it to show you (it's pencil and paper). It's kinda still a very rough work in progress.
I was planning just the Iris for now, but that would be no matter what form she took, the part of the eye that would count as an iris would be that vivid green. I debated on making them more slitted than normal. But when I picture them in my head they are very similar to this. Unnaturally green. :)
As for her feathers, most are likely from parrots and other very brightly colored jungle birds, like the Blue & Gold Macaw and the Green Wing Macaw. The feathers are all different colors, creating a rainbow in her hair. I picture shades of red, green, blue, yellow, even purple and orange if she can find them.
Dambreth |
Meet Dambreth, Elven Ranger.
Dambreth is an Elven Ranger that is more comfortable with animals than with people, rarely speaks more than a few words at a time, with wild eyes that are constantly scanning his surroundings. His hair is his most notable feature as it sticks out in all directions and looks as if it has never been brushed or washed. His clothing marks him as a jungle dweller as it's camouflage patterns are designed to trick the eye into passing over him without seeing him as he crouches in the jungle. His lithe body move with impressive dexterity and he handles his hunter's bow with practiced ease.
Even more unusual than Dambreth's appearance is his animal companion. Moving in conjunction as if they share their thoughts is his beloved friend the cougar Scram.

Dambreth |
Rangers in general are uncomfortable around people, elves are normally uncomfortable around non-elves and Dambreth is extremely uncomfortable around everyone except his cousin Sinathel. Even as a child, Dambreth looked for reasons to be away from the hidden Elven jungle enclaves and be out in the 'wilds'.
Realizing that he had none the magical aptitude so common on other elves, Dambreth concentrated on developing his physical skills especially focusing on his Hunter's Bow. On one of his hunting excursions he came upon a female cougar that had been crippled and left to slowly die by someone's arrow. Dambreth knew that the arrow wasn't of Elvish make but did not recognize its design. As he prepared to track the intruder in 'his' jungle he heard the faint, mewing cry of a cougar kitten. Looking through the underbrush he found a small, black male cougar that was obviously starving due to the death of his mother. All thoughts of tracking the intruder vanished as for the first time in his life Dambreth felt real empathy for another creature. He immediately took the kitten to the Druid Aegor who knew more of animal lore than any other elf of the enclave. With Aegor's help his was able to save his new friend who quickly acquired the name Scram due to his habit of exploring everything he could find and 'attacking' bolts of clothing, or animal hides, or basically anything else he could get his claws on. From that first day, Scram has been Dambreth's constant companion. The small kitten now stands three feet tall, eight feet long, weighs 200 lbs and has razor sharp teeth and claws.
Aegor recently called on Dambreth to repay his favor...he was asked to join the organization called Gaia's Hand which was trying to right the terrible wrongs that had been happening to the land. Specifically, he was asked to accompany and protect his cousin Sinathel as she undertook a mighty quest. He's now part of a small band that includes a human fighter named Hawke, a barbarian and his cousin.
I have guided the barbarian before and they owe me for it.
Sinathel is a friend of nature, so I will be their friend as well.
Hawke does not understand life in the wild, so I will teach him.
DM Frogfoot |
Iiinteresting. Any ideas as to what the secret rite was for?
Or is it a secret? xD
Also we have a fifth member joining us, another player I have personal experience with and am very excited to have along. He'll be posting here soon enough, I'm sure. He's new to the system just like all of you are, so you'll be on even footing. He'll be playing a thief.
Kana |
XD And here I was wondering if I should make the Barbarian be that bond but the thief... oh yes. lol I shall set this bond now:
Thief smells more like prey than hunter.
I should start getting that profile together. And I'm trying to decide what I want to do with:
_________ has tasted my blood and I theirs. We are bound by it.
DM Frogfoot |
Looks like our Thief has to prove himself to his fellows in this journey. You should talk together - once he posts here of course, I've linked him the thread - about where this doubt stems from. After all, you've been traveling together for a month, you have past experiences together.
All I will tell you to guide your ideas for the previous month's journey are:
1. To collect the breathing apparatuses, you needed to delve deep underground, to a "living city" - an abandoned city filled with animated constructs made by the ancient ancestors of today's dwarves.
2. The cloaks were gathered from a tribe of Snow Elves, far to the north, in a frozen wasteland.
3. Finally, the Immovable Rod was recovered in the depths of the Dark Jungles, just behind where you are now on the slopes of Mount Haujobb.
Take whatever creative liberties you wish for what happened during those adventures. You don't NEED to write up a huge backstory for the past month, it's just fodder for you to use - if you want to have a character connection from your recent past.
GM Coluber |
It took a while, but here it is:
Look:
- Tormented eyes
- Scrawny body
- Unusual jewelry
- Scraps
Stats:
- Strength: 16 (+2)
- Dexterity: 15 (+1)
- Constitution: 12 (+0)
- Intelligence: 9 (+0)
- Wisdom: 8 (-1)
- Charisma: 13 (+1)
Damage: d10
Armor: 1
HP: 20/20
Load: 5/10
Alignment: Chaotic - Eschew a convention of the civilized world.
Race: Outsider (Elf) - At the beginning of each session, the GM
will ask you something about your homeland, why you left, or what
you left behind. If you answer them, mark XP.
Bonds:
- Hawke is puny and foolish, but amusing to me.
- Sinathel's ways are strange and confusing.
Starting Moves:
- Unencumbered, Unharmed
So long as you are below your Load and neither wear armor nor carry a shield, take +1 armor. - Herculean Appetites
Others may content themselves with just a taste of wine, or dominion over a servant or two, but
you want more. Choose two appetites. While pursuing one of your appetites if you would roll for
a move, instead of rolling 2d6 you roll 1d6+1d8. If the d6 is the higher die of the pair, the GM
will also introduce a complication or danger that comes about due to your heedless pursuits. - The Upper Hand
You take +1 ongoing to last breath rolls. When you take your last breath, on a 7–9 you make an
offer to Death in return for your life. If Death accepts he will return you to life. If not, you die - Musclebound
While you wield a weapon it gains the forceful and messy tags. - What Are You Waiting For?
When you cry out a challenge to your enemies, roll+
Con.
✴On a 10+ they treat you as the
most obvious threat to be dealt with and ignore your companions, take +2 damage ongoing
against them.
✴On a 7–9 only a few (the weakest or most foolhardy among them) fall prey
to your taunting.Si-Yi's appetites: Power over others & Riches and propety.
Gear:
- Two-handed sword (close, +1 damage, 2 weight)
- Adventuring gear (1 weight)
- Dungeon rations (10 uses, 2 weight)
- A dagger (hand, 1 weight)
Si-Yi is tall and slim, making up for the lack of body fat with a considerable musculature. His unkempt hair is shoulder-length and white, but it doesn't seem to be the natural tone of his hair. His clothes are worn and ragged, their dull colours contrasting with a long chain of bright red beads and the occasional gemstone that he keeps wrapped multiple times around his body.
The uncommon piece of jewelry and a foreign accent betray him as not native to the land, but he doesn't speak much about his homeland. Any queries about the matter are answered with angry snorting and hostile glares; Pressing on with the subject is met with increasing hostility.
Si-Yi finds Hawke's insistence that he owes his life to the fighter amusing. There's no way a mighty warrior like him would be in debt to a weakling like that. He'd have survived that giant rolling boulder without being pulled out of the way. Somehow.
Same thing goes for Dambreth. The ranger should stop thinking that he needed guidance. When he started walking the wrong way, he was just testing if the ranger knows his job. Obviously.
Sinathel is nice enough, though she does everything different than the druids back home. She obviously could benefit from some instruction from a proper druid. Silly jungle elves.
Captain Fremont |
Well no wonder the barbarian won't admit Hawke saved him. He's arrogant and doesn't think Hawke amounts to much of anything. :P
My guess would be an enemy was about to strike a fatal blow to Si-Yi from behind at some point and was intercepted by Hawke. Considering Si-Yi thinks Hawke is a weakling, he believes he would have survived the enemy's attempt to slay him because he is clearly superior to Hawke. This in turn means that Si-Yi feels that he does not owe Hawke anything.
DM Frogfoot |
Can we use the same bond for multiple characters at the same time? I read that you just have to have at least one bond when you start, and I'm tempted to just leave that last one blank for now.
And I think I know why Sinathel views the thief that way... but I'll let our theif post first ^^
You can absolutely use the same bond for multiple characters if it applies to those characters.
