The bolt hits the ship. But a little bit more off and it would have missed.
Captain Portia Runescar gives all to make it hard for the pirates on the last few hundred feet.
Prof(Sailor): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Even though the Kraken is faster the captain of the other ship manages better and the maneuver to avoid the rocks costs speed.
Trytton |
Trytton dives overboard dives down and swims after the other boat about 60ft below water level. Swim 120ft per round as a run action. Once he closes the distance he overtakes slightly and begins concentrating before throwing a blast of water at the sails. Gather power, extended range blast. No idea what the AC I am trying to hit is.
Attack; Damage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 212d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8
Trytton |
Can we assume average rolls to save on the hundreds I will ned to do?
2 rounds of attack, 1 of move, should keep me in range.
That means I do 26 damage every 3 rounds. (2 rounds at 2*3.5+6).
I need to deal 240 damage, ((240/26)*3)=27.something.
So 28 rounds and I have dealt sufficient damage.
Call it 30 to allow for some leeway.
That means 5 Minutes

GM Foxy |
Suddenly the hunted ship slightly changes course. Next thing you see is the sails flapping in the wind and the ship losing speed. You think you can hear the curses of the Captain carried by the wind over the waves.
The ships speed is reduced to 0 in three rounds. Which reduces the hunt to five rounds until you're in entering distance. You want to enter or shoot at them a little longer?
GM Foxy |
The hunted ship gets off another shot with the catapult but you're already too close. The rock flies over the Kraken and hits the water once more. Pulling up alongside the Truewind you get an idea what you're facing. On a first glance you count over 40 men/women at arms standing on deck to defend their ship against you.
Besmara __ |
Besmara steps up. "Go for the officers. If they surrender their goods we're satisfied. They don't have to die if they don't want to! But if they don't surrender - paint their ship red in their own blood."
"Estelle, lead the attack."

From underwater Trytton focuses. Water begins to flow up the walls of the ship and starts to form a solid wall of water along the side of the Man's Promise Modified Kinetic Cover, 30ft long, along the railing so people can get complete cover from the archers
Jarrus Darkhaven |
Jarrus yells to Besmara. "Aye Cap'n I can help from here too."
Then draws his pistol and moves to the edge of the deck and starts taking shots at the archers to help the crew.

Casts Glitterdust on the biggest concentration of enemy crew/officers in sight.

With Jarrus shooting the first sailor, Noonan cutting down another, a good number of them blinded and another wolf appearing behind them chaos breaks out on the other ship. Estelle gives one the knee sending him bleeding to the deck.

GM Foxy |
The boat is tied down the planks are put in place int the chaos that Noonan and Estelle create with help of Lito and Sandara. As Besmara walks over she throws her knife into the throat of a sailor who lets out a short death rattle and then falls face first onto the deck.
The whole crew of the Kraken storms over to the Truewind. Only Jarrus stays back. The Truewind has the bigger numbers, but what's a sailor vs. a battle hardened pirate.
I won't roll all. I just do some assumptions about how many of the enemy sailors are not bound by fighting one on one with the crew. So the game is about how fast you can get this fight to end. The longer it lasts the more people will die on each side.
As the battle spreads out over the deck and no one is surrounded by half a dozen enemies you notice the officers who stood behind the closed rows. The Captain, a half elf woman with a crossbow and the first mate, a human man with a rapier trying to coordinate the defense.
GM Foxy |
Jarrus has to stay on the bridge, he is the one at the wheel until the captain is back.

Laugh it up you codfish!
Casts Hideous Laughter on the officer coordinating the defense. Also keeps up the Inspire Courage as a free action.
