Niobe darts out from cover, casts a quick spell, and touches Marnir.

Neutralize poison.

Kung's fury, if possible, only grows when he looks for a way to attack the assassin but can't find any! The alley is too narrow, and Marnir blocks his way. So, the half-orc does the only thing he can, barreling through and pushing past both his captain and the assassin, trying to get on the other side of the enemy.

Acrobatics:

Reading through the rules on Acrobatics it looks like he will have to make 2 checks, once from moving through Marnir's square (which is threatened by the assassin) and then another for moving through the assassin's square. Kung's speed right now with haste is 70', so by moving at half-speed (35') he can make both checks at their normal DC.

Acrobatics, move through a threated area, DC=CMD: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Acrobatics, move through an enemy's space, DC=CMD+5: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

Acrobatics wrote:
...you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics. When moving in this way, you move at half speed. You can move at full speed by increasing the DC of the check by 10. You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes. You can use Acrobatics in this way while prone, but doing so requires a full-round action to move 5 feet, and the DC is increased by 5. If you attempt to move through an enemy's space and fail the check, you lose the move action and provoke an attack of opportunity.

Looking at those numbers, I'm guessing that he succeeded at the 2nd check, which was the critical check for being able to complete his movement. If not, he'll be stuck in Marnir's square and you'll have to figure out how that works out. If he failed the 1st check, he can still complete his movement, but will provoke an AoO.

Kung, his pegleg briefly ceasing tapping as he uses it as a pivot to spin around, brings his greatsword to bear on the assassin from behind, using the opportunity of distraction to use the flat of his blade on the back of the man's head.

Damage, S, sneak attack: 2d6 + 21 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 21 + (6) = 30

Crit?: 1d20 + 20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 20 + 2 - 4 = 33
Crit Damage: 2d6 + 21 ⇒ (5, 6) + 21 = 32

ADVENTURE PATH COMPLETE

Addendum: I can't get to Marnir in one round and still cast, so I guess the spell goes off on the next round.

Are you sure you want to do that?

Kung slashes the assassin down bloodily.

Silence falls over the streets, marred only by drapes being hurriedly drawn in the nearby houses as the locals make sure that they 'Didn't see anything.'

A search of the assassins body turns up a missive with three names: Haddon Pike, Roweena Kellet, and Corlan. The first two names have been crossed out. The note also contains brief instructions: “Use the supplied dosage on each. When done, return to the apothecary in Port Peril. I can provide more toxin along with your payment if needed.
Destroy this after reading.
” The note is signed simply “Z.”

For some unknown reason the assassin had failed to destroy the note?

Corlen on the other hand is shaky, but very grateful to you. He knows very little about the spy ring, having served only as the messenger. He squawks in dread if told that Haddon Pike & Roweena Kellet have already been eliminated.

He can tell you that he received his orders from Zarskia Galembar at the Jasperleaf Apothecary in Port Peril.

Any other questions. Most of his messages were made using dead drops so he knows very little about the spy ring.

The assassins gear is on the discussion page.

"I have a sneaking suspicion that the Zarskia Galembar mentioned is the same 'Z' who signed the note," says Niobe, stating the obvious.

Niobe, thanks for the neutralize poison , though it requires a caster level check against the save DC of the poison, 20 in this case. I'll have to make one more save anyway if you can't cast it before my next initiative, but I very much appreciate the help with a Con poison!

DC 20 Fort save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 So close!
Con damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

The poison continues to ravage Marnir's body, and his breathing becomes wheezy and irregular.

"Cocky bastard, didn't think he'd get caught," Marnir says when he sees the note. He leaves the questioning of Corlen to the others while Niobe tries to stem the tide of the poison.

ADVENTURE PATH COMPLETE

Caster level check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Despite making the check, that is a terrible rule change. I'm going to waste a 3rd level spell slot on a spell that not only doesn't cure the effects of the poison, but could just fail and do nothing at all?

Are you sure you want to do that?

You now have a lead to someone who seems to be highly placed in the spy ring. This Zarskia Galembar in Port Peril had set an assassin to remove anyone who has worked for her.

Poisoned bolts were specified to ensure that the targets did not survive, only chance, and Jane being able to heal saved your last link.

Port Peril is your next call, this time though it seems you may be reaching the end of the long, twisted trail you've been following.

What are you doing now?
