Just remember you need to arrive in Port peril with 10 points worth of plunder in your hold, and you'll need 4 point to bribe Kerdak Bonefist.
So after we arrive in Port Peril with 10 units of plunder, we will need to spend 1 unit on the crew, 4 units on a bribe, and we'll then have 5 units remaining, along with the coin, to spend on ship upgrades and then split amongst ourselves?
GM_DBH |
Well, it's been a week since Ghilda posted. I sent her a PM and haven't received a response. No activity from her player or any of the other alias's. So it looks like we've lost her to real life sadly.
The good thing is it's happening between books, and there is a very good reason for a Cleric of Besmara to leave the party for a while. An isle in the Shackles sacred to Besmara and they often feel a call to make a pilgrimage to the isle.
So for now we can say that Ghilda is on a pilgrimage, and if she does return she can slip back into the party.
We do need a Divine caster though. What do the rest of you want? Run a quick recruitment for a new character, whom you can pick up at the rock or Port peril. Or do you want me to spec up one of the NPC's and run them as the party healer? Sandara would easily fill this role.
Louisiana Jane |
I vote for a quick recruitment because in two weeks my Kickstarter will launch and I'll be busy for 2 weeks... at least..
Marnir Saltvig |
I hope we're not losing Ghilda permanently, that would suck.
I'm happy to try a speedy recruitment for someone divine - it worked out well for me and Markizio!
It gives us a bit of time to do some RP, sell some stuff, and buy some stuff.
I've provisionally marked up the Sahuagin loot doc with proposed distribution of treasure, but I can't access the main Google Drive folder at work to start sorting out the main loot that Ghilda was in charge of.
Dividing up the gold gives us 3393 gp and 6 sp each to spend, but we may want to spend some on upgrading the Drake before we divide it.
Markizio Voralius |
I would also prefer another player; it gets everyone more involved.
Jane: what's your Kickstarter about? And will you have time for this game?
Marnir: I didn't know you weren't part of the original crew. You didn't come in with me though, right?
Markizio is OK with spending money on upgrading the Drake.
Marnir Saltvig |
I came on not long after the game started, but I wasn't part of the original group - I got recruited as part of a short open recruitment drive, same as you.
Markizio Voralius |
GM, I also recommend that you offer up the spot to someone you already know. So if there's someone in your other game that you think would be a good fit, I would contact them before opening up recruitment
Louisiana Jane |
Here is my Kickstarter link and after the first week or two, it should level out until the last week or two.... which about the entire month that I think of it. Depending on how it goes, I'll be ordering the games mid July and dealing with fulfillment companies before the shipping takes place. So..... I should be okay to hop in as I usually do while at my main job.
Marnir Saltvig |
How do we feel about spending some of our loot on upgrading the Drake with :
Magically treated control device (1000gp, double hardness and HP of wheel [does this extend to the rudder as well, seeing as that's more vulnerable, or is that extra?])
Rapid deploy sails (1000gp, extra +1 bonus on sailing checks)
That would leave us 14968, or 2993gp6sp each.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
Weren't we going to upgrade a crew member to captain and give them the Thresher?
If we weren't, we definitely should. In face, we should call in the fleet; we can go into Port Peril with a trio of ships. :)
Also, this is a heads-up that I am going to be at a music festival this weekend. I'll be camping and I expect to have very poor cell service. I will be back on Monday; posting will be sporadic if at all until then. Kung has a "Bot Me" spoiler if you need him to act to keep the game moving.
GM_DBH |
Thanks for the heads up Kung. The party has made it back to the rock without any problems. Partying up and discussing who get's the Thresher? As it's not part of a fleet and no one will be bothered when it shows up with a new name slapped on it, you don't need to squib it.
I haven't been playing up the NPC's as much as I should to give you a picture of what they're like. I'll do that more now you are becoming more notable.
I have been updating the NPC's though, Sandara is now Cleric5/Swashbuckler2 and would be very happy to have a ship, as would Kyra, the Rahadoumi officer who came over to your side after you took the Mans promise.
Marnir Saltvig |
Split 4 ways then, we each make 3742gp after spending money to upgrade the Drake.
I think we should give Kyra a command again. I'd like her to take command of the Thresher, once we've repaired it and brought it up to scratch again. That makes us a proper fleet.

So, Retconing the skills then? (AKA, 2 background skill points each level to put into those background skills?)
Also, as for recruitment. I vote for Niobe... Though, she might want to change her 7th level feat, since Jane took Brew Potion too.
Useful Background Skill Information
Appraise
Artistry
Craft
Handle Animal
Knowledge (engineering)
Knowledge (geography)
Knowledge (history)
Knowledge (nobility)
Linguistics
Lore
Perform
Profession
Sleight of Hand
Implementing background skills in an established campaign is easy. To convert a character’s skill ranks into this system, first determine the total number of background skill ranks she has—this is equal to 2 × the PC’s character level. Next, find out how many ranks she has already spent on skills that are background skills under this system. The character gains that number of regular skill ranks to spend on any skills—essentially refunding the regular skill ranks spent on background skills. Finally, subtract this number from the character’s total number of background skill ranks to determine how many background skill ranks she still has to spend. For example, a 5th-level rogue would have 10 background skill ranks. If she had already put 5 ranks into skills that are now background skills, she would spend 5 of her background skill ranks on those skills, freeing up the original 5 ranks to spend on any skills, and she would still have 5 background skill ranks left to spend on background skills.
The GM might want to allow some amount of retraining to factor in the new background skills. A character who took Profession (poet) might prefer to put those ranks in Artistry (poetry) instead, or a character who took Knowledge (geography) to represent the time she spent traveling a specific river might take Lore in that river instead.
As Janes' backstory is with her family being from a trading company, she should have Profession Sailor and Knowledge Geographies from that. She also like to tinker, so that could be in both Knowledge Engineering and Craft Alchemy. Since Knowledge are trained skills, she doesn't qualify for the Engineering, so that leaves those three areas. 1 in Alchemy, 3 in Geographies and 5 in Sailor. I would have to redistribute them. dump 1 skill point each level into Alchemy and every other level switching between the two. Would bring the Knowledge G up to 4, Sailor would drop to 3 and Alchemy would raise to 7. Leaves 9 regular skill points to redistribute. I'll bring the other two up to 7 as well, with 1 regular skill point each level, which leaves 2 more. I'll put those into Disable Device.
GM_DBH |
I've chosen Niobe as our replacement, once she checks in at Tidewater rock and is made welcome I'll move the party to Port peril.
Kyra is taking to Thresher and will be sailing with the Unbound Drake to Port peril to pick up more crew. After that do you want her to go independent, or stick with you?
And since she's Rahadoumi I was thinking she would rename the Thresher to No Gods No Masters. Or is that too cheesy?
Markizio Voralius |
Hello! Just dropping in as requested. :)
One note before I get committed: I have a little wiggle room on my feats; if you really wanted me to take a magic item crafting feat I could do so and help with supplying wondrous items or weapons and armor.
Welcome aboard!
Don't worry about making magic items. We're the kind of pirates that just take what's available or make due with what we have.
If there's something that we 'really need' then we trust the GM will make it available somehow. :)
Otherwise, we enjoy the challenge.
Game on!

I think she should have the same arrangement as Norva - independent but available to assist with taking down big prizes. Hopefully we'll work out some way of communicating effectively over distances to coordinate things. Sounds like a good name to me.
Welcome Niobe! I look forward to ordering you around!
Louisiana Jane |
LOL... Yeah.... I'm more of a sneaky person.. with almost no perception.. (Though i should work on that.)
GM_DBH |
I'm looking at the other party memebers, and... do... do I have the highest Perception in the group? :O
And my AC is comparable with the frontliners?
We definitely need to get you folks some cool magic armor. :D
Looking forward to receiving orders, sir!
Yes, well you got all your money in one lump, so could equip yourself properly. Instead of starting at 1st level and taking what you could find when and if something ever showed up.
Still, I'm sure boasting about all your cool gear to a crew of ruthless pirates won't come back to haunt you. :)
And yes, weekends are usually this slow.
Marnir Saltvig |
We've managed so far with what we've got, but improving my AC is on my to-do list.
Louisiana Jane |
I have a preserving flask, so I can use my CLWs two extra times... Then I have to refill them. Though, I am someone who stays out of combat as much as possible... Or I just sneak by them and poison their food.
Niobe Aptos |
Pretty effective if you can pull it off, I imagine! :D
Once we get into a good cadence we may want to make some additional potions with various curative properties so we can take care of poison or disease without me having to prepare those curative spells all the time. A druidic potion of neutralize poison or remove disease costs 375 to make (+2 if it's a potion sponge) and can be done in one day if we work together!
Louisiana Jane |
Well, if you make a Neutralize Potion, I could distil it and learn how to make more of them. Currently looking at other potions that I should learn.
Purchases List. Previously Remaining Gold: 3,509gp 7sp 4cp. Recently added 1/4 of 14968 (3,742) = 7,251gp 7sp 4cp.
Slippers of Cloud Walking -4,400g
Cure Mod Wounds potion -300g
Protection from Arrows -300g
Levitation -300g
Blur -300g
Invisibility -300g
Lesser Restore -300
Total -6,800
Remaining Gold: 451
Once Jane buys this and is back on the ship. She'll take the potions apart with her Formula Alembic and write each one into her spellbook after she's done.
Niobe Aptos |
Well, if you make a Neutralize Potion, I could distil it and learn how to make more of them. Currently looking at other potions that I should learn.
Do you have an ability that lets you make potions out of 4th-level spells? On the druid list it's 3rd level, so I can make a potion of the druid version (by working with you), but on the alchemist list it's 4th level, which is normally beyond the reach of the Brew Potion feat.
Louisiana Jane |
I'll have to wait till I can access the spell level myself, but the Formula Alembic let's me take apart any potion (on the alchemist list) and learn how to craft it.
Niobe Aptos |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
It'll let you put it in your formula book so you can use it as an extract, but that's not the same as being able to use the Brew Potion feat with it. As an extract only you can use it - unless you have the infusion discovery. Brew Potion, even for alchemists, only works for spells or extracts of 3rd level or lower, and for an alchemist, neutralize poison is a 4th-level extract. (Fortunately, remove disease is 3rd level for an alchemist.)
Sorry, I'm not trying to be trouble right after joining the group, it's just one of those weird cases. :/
Louisiana Jane |
No worry. I can use preserving flask for the higher levels... A little bit expensive, but by that time we'll have the money.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
I'm just worried about our front line taking too many hits! We'll figure out a way to get them better armor. :)
Kung would be happy to have better armor. :) After charging and rage, it gets pretty dicey there (though, he's survived this far...).
GM_DBH |
Since there seems to be some debate over attacking the Dominator I thought I'd just say you can pass it by with out screwing up anything. There is an encounter with the Dominator set earlier in the book, but it's made clear you can't win and should sneak away. You're a couple of levels higher, but it's still a very dangerous thing to attempt. A big reward, but just as easily a TPK.
Louisiana Jane |
I'm looking for a way to deliver the spell "obscuring mist" remotely. First I thought I could easily make it into a potion, but that's not within the rules. I haven't been able to search through all the things alchemists can do, but I was wondering if I could make like a smoke bomb or something. That way, we can sneak up on ships at night, drop the mist and I would walk on the list to cut the lines to their masts.
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
@Jane I spent some time poking around reddit and the paizo boards, and I'm not seeing anything that would let you modify obscuring mist in that way. I'm thinking that some of the higher-level weather spells might get you there, though.
Background Skills rebuild
Kung only had one existing skill point in a background skill: profession (sailor). He replaced that with an extra point in Intimidate, leaving 13 points to spend on Background Skills. He spent an additional 6 on profession (sailor), bringing that up to 7 ranks. 1 point on Linguistics to pick up Sahaugin as a language (based on the idea that his hatred for them has helped him to pick up their language during the recent fighting). The final 6 points go into Sleight of Hand.
Niobe Aptos |
Yeah, obscuring mist explicitly radiates out from you; fog cloud can be cast at range, but I don't think it's on the alchemist list. :/
There is the actual alchemical smokestick, which fills a 10 foot cube and maybe could be thrown.
Louisiana Jane |
Smoke stick is one option. GM, if I were to make enough Liquid Ice, could I dump it into the ocean and make a pseudo fog at night/early morning.
Also known as “alchemist’s ice,” this sealed jar contains crystalline blue fluid that immediately starts to hiss and evaporate once opened. During the 1d6 rounds after it is opened but before it evaporates completely, you can use it to freeze a liquid or to coat an object in a thin layer of ice. You can also throw liquid ice as a splash weapon. A direct hit deals 1d6 points of cold damage; creatures within 5 feet of where it hits take 1 point of cold damage from the splash.

Guys... I failed to mention it... but my computer's hard drive crashed Sunday night.... My game's files were all on there for my Kickstarter... Just tonight, i was able to recover them. :) Oh my fracking God... was i so worried.
Side Note, my Kickstarter is now live.. Would love a share. Thanks.
Fabian Benavente |
FYI, I'll be on vacation from Sunday 6/11 to Sunday 6/25 so my last regular post will be this Sunday morning.
I expect to have internet access the first week (until 6/18) and I should be able to post once per day. However, do not sweat if you don't hear from me. You definitely will not hear from me between 6/18 to 6/25.
Please bot my PC as needed (don't kill him!) :)
Game on!
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
So, I'm a little surprised that it took a whole 7 levels for my grand experiment to finish, but finish it has. I've been taking the approach that, with a 7 INT, Kung had no reason to change his strategy of Rage>Charge>Bash unless it proved unsuccessful. Well, it finally failed. Our favorite half-orc dolt is going to have to start thinking about strategic approaches to battle finally....
Kungrusdak Nosvunkuk |
This is a heads up that I am traveling from now through the 4th of July holiday. I will be mostly in an area where cell service is spotty; I may not be able to post at all, but I will do my best to, if nothing else, post actions with limited roleplay. If you are also in the US, enjoy your holiday, and if you're not: don't mind us!
