Are you sure you want to do that?

This is the thread to discuss your characters and get our game set up.

Questions, ideas and GM bribery all get settled here.

So far we have.

Wolverine blue's Cleric.
Louisiana Jane's Alchemist.
Yab's Monk.
Barnabas II's Witch.
Dorgan's Wizard.

Holla! Generating my character, in case we do end up in this AP after all. Thank you, DBH, for being so generous!

Are you sure you want to do that?

Well, it's around midday Thursday for me, so it's been nearly two weeks since Rifts_guy posted.

Odds are looking good 'Throne of night' won't happen.

He did say it would be slow paced though, so I could probably run S&S at the same time.

If he does get back to us, could be some real life thing holding him up.

You must be in Australia or Kiwi-land, eh?

Female Gnome Alchemist/Witch 6/2 || HP 70/70 || AC:16 T:13 FF:14 || F:8 R:7 W:5 || Initiative +3 / Perception +10 Gnome
Attack:

crossbow:
[dice=Crossbow]1d20+8[/dice][dice=Damage]1d6+3[/dice]

I'm here.

I am in the great land of Japan. It's around 11 am here.

Not sure if I'm using PCgen correctly - the S&S traits aren't available.

Female Gnome Alchemist/Witch 6/2 || HP 70/70 || AC:16 T:13 FF:14 || F:8 R:7 W:5 || Initiative +3 / Perception +10 Gnome
Attack:
[dice=Alchemist Bomb]1d20+9[/dice] [dice=Damage]3d4+3[/dice] 5 damage splash, DC 14 Reflex
crossbow:
[dice=Crossbow]1d20+8[/dice][dice=Damage]1d6+3[/dice]

I was able to find the traits here by typing in the filter (Skull & Shackles). Unfortunately, the links to each trait are broken, so you have to re-search those on the top.

Okay... the list is here

Thanks, LJ - I actually DL'd the S&S player's guide, and so I know what the traits are. I will try to add a trait bonus manually in PCgen...should be interesting.

Edit: I may have found the solution - a different dataset load...TBC lol

Are you sure you want to do that?

Yeah, when it ask what sources to load, go to Advanced and add the source you want to the list.

I'm in Kiwi-land. :)

Are you sure you want to do that?

Also, S&S starts with a bang!

So no need for you to get to know each other first, you will need to note down your equipment though.

I have an All Blacks jersey (allegedly number one of a limited edition of 2000, which I doubt) from the 2003 Rugby World Cup. I'm in Iowa, USA (central time zone).

Now with one less mount, all of Jane's equipment is in her back.... Got about 250gp to spend.. Might save it up for something.

They're pretty good about making sure the jerseys are rare. You can buy replicas but they're all made different enough to tell.

Limited editions will be just that, even if it was a crappy year to have them made. Played poorly and knocked out in the world cup semis, A year to forget.

Male Human Witch 3|| AC 14 /17 (mage armor) || hp 20/20|| Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +2 Will +4 || Perception +5 || Condition: Normal

I am here, but still need to finalize my character....

Male CN Half-Orc Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 6, Rogue (Pirate) 2 | HP: 86/86 | AC: 21 (14 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +13, CMD: 27 (24 Fl) | F: +13, R: +12, W: +6 | Init: +3 | Perc: +11, SM +4 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: see Stats spoiler in posts (Stats shown here are default stats only)

DBH, you pointed out that Monk is probably not a great fit for this Adventure Path, and after reading the Player's Guide, I agree. Looking over our list of characters, we definitely still need a front-line fighter, so I humbly submit Kung, a half-orc barbarian who will be none too pleased to find himself in the hold of a ship against his will. Especially because he loves being at sea, and goodness, all you had to do was ask!

I plan on taking the Peg Leg S&S campaign trait. Crunch to follow.

Male CN Half-Orc Barbarian (Sea Reaver) 6, Rogue (Pirate) 2 | HP: 86/86 | AC: 21 (14 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +13, CMD: 27 (24 Fl) | F: +13, R: +12, W: +6 | Init: +3 | Perc: +11, SM +4 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: see Stats spoiler in posts (Stats shown here are default stats only)

Some build questions:

Any low-limits for starting attributes (i.e. are 7s okay?)
Are we using background skills?

Male Human Witch 3|| AC 14 /17 (mage armor) || hp 20/20|| Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +2 Will +4 || Perception +5 || Condition: Normal

Any word on timeline to finish characters?

Thought about sea witch, but general witch seems better.

Time patron looks good. Ancient explorer trait, looking for magic that controls time....

Other trait two world magic for create water.

Starting hexes
Healing
Evil eye

Any other suggestions?

I don't know the witch class too well (which is a shame, as I'm currently running Reign of Winter in my home game, lol). Why not the sea witch? In my experience, archetypes themed that close to an Adventure Path can be a huge plus.

I'll let other people who know the class better chime in on the patron/hexes.

Sounds like with Ship's Surgeon trait, the only equipment I have is a healing kit. GM, do we start with zero weapons, armor and equipment? Just some clothes (and a healing kit for me)?

Low attributes... Really depends what it is? If it's Cha no problem. Int isn't one either, but Wis would be.

My live group has a guy who loves playing big Barbarians, and always makes Wis his dump stat. He then spends all his time whining about will saves, and why is his character always the first to fail?

What do you mean by background skills? If it's the new ones like Athletics then no we are not.

Up till the end of Saturday to finish characters. If anyone is still struggling we can stretch it out a little more though.

Hexes?
Slumber is grossly overpowered :).
Fortune and Misfortune are subtle tricks to shift the balance your way. Flight is a useful trick to have.
Cackle is a great way to freak people out.
Charm is very useful, but only if you have Diplomacy to use with it. Nails and Prehensile hair are a nice hidden edge.
Water lung, well I don't need to say anymore on that one.

With the Time patron and Ancient explorer trait you look to be building a Witch who is smart and subtle, no ostentatious display of power. More things going his parties way while his enemies always seem to be on the back foot.

When I ran S&S for my group one player took Witch, he took a level or two of Bard for the social skills and the rest all Witch.
He had a blast, his Witch ending up very powerful and respected.

Though do make a separate list of what you have and send me a copy. :)

When I chose the Cleric of Besmara archetype, I lost a domain to gain my familiar, monkey Chorley! I may pick another domain in place of water - not sure yet.

Still working on gear. I am basically gearing per the ancient explorer trait....so not too gear heavy.

Good call on your familiar.

Question, as a human don't you get a bonus feat? I only see Extra hex.

Good catch, thanks!

I do like the turtle and time patron as a fitting blend.

I was going to put one rank into profession (explorer) and wondered if you would let me use that in place of sailor?

I think I'm good to go with my build, unless someone thinks I should take a domain other than water. Open to suggestions. The domains and sub-domains available to me, based on my allegiance to Besmara, are:

Black Powder Inquisition
Chaos
Conversion Inquisition
Deception
Protean
Spellkiller Inquisition
Storms
Tactics
Thievery
Trickery
War
Water
Weather

It's really how you see Ghilda that matters. Water works very well with the campaign, but if you see her as focused on a different domain go for it.

Okay, I'm pretty much all built except gear; gonna start updating the profile here. I built as the Barbarian from Unchained. Let me know if that's a problem, so I can try to convince you otherwise. ;) (It's the least different of all the classes; basically Rage is a little different so that it's easier.)

For gear, how much gold to start? Class max, average, or a fixed amount?

Unchained is no problem, used it myself.

Starting wealth is roll for it, if too little go with the average.

So we have.

Ghilda - Female Dwarf Cleric.
Barnabas - II Male Human Witch.
Jane - Female Gnome Alchemist.
Kung - Male Half-orc Barbarian.

Just about ready to go

Dorgan building a Elf Wizard.

I didn't manage my starting wealth generating my character. It appears I had 200gp - is that way too much? I have less than 9gp left now LOL

I'm ready to go, GM.

Clerics get a bit more than Barbarians. 4d6 to the Barb's 3d6 so Ghilda's is fine.

Druids and Sorcerers only get 2d6, and the poor Monk only gets 1d6.

Male Human Witch 3|| AC 14 /17 (mage armor) || hp 20/20|| Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +2 Will +4 || Perception +5 || Condition: Normal

90.....so 105 gold.

Feel free to start I just need to double check my inventory.

Is it weird I am already coming up with stuff to say?

So many of those work well! I like the flavor of many of them, I usually go flavor over power when I make choices, but that is by no means the right answer.

Kung's profile here is entirely updated except gear and some background. I will likely add a bit more to background throughout the day, and I'll update gear when I get home tonight (gear is purchased in HeroLab, but not added to the profile here yet, and I don't have access to HeroLab again until I get home).

Also, I'm in Michigan in the good ol' USA, we're currently in EDT, so I'm GMT-4 for those who math the time zones well.

Unless gear is a critical factor to starting a game where we're Shanghai'd, Kung is ready to start! :)
