Buck up lass! (^_^) At least ye din't roll a '1'. (¬_¬)
Turniphead |
Is there any reason Turniphead can't take 10 giving him a total of 12 on his checks...slow and steady. If not you can roll for me to save time.
Not wanting to waste the opportunity, Turniphead slowly makes his way up the mast checking for weaknesses, or things that need to be repaired on the way up, then inspecting the crows nest for the same.

Okay, to get the responses done:
Taize falls from 10 feet on the three. He doesn't take any damage, but he lands on his butt really hard.
Turniphead: You're suposed to be climbing as fast as you can, so if he starts to take 10 Plugg will go down and beat him with the cat, or more likely get Scourge to use his whip. I'll write some stuff for this all later.
Current leaders are Brendan (by a hair) and Kestryl, btw. Commendations to Sharice.
'Sunny' |
My rolls t'weren't that bad neither, I blame th' previous evenin's prawns on me givin' poor performance! *Remembers weird taste in mouth upon awakening...* Here! I were poisoned! (0_o)
Taize Vesper |
Taize stands and checks herself for injuries before glancing over at the whip-wielding Mr Scourge and heading back to the rigging.
She mutters, as if to herself "This is why I'd hoped for a ship that needed a cook."
Taize Vesper |
"I like to think so. I can at least avoid poisoning everyone. As for the aftereffects of the poison... [whispers] see me later, I'd rather not reveal I can call on Gozreh without a holy symbol. It might prove useful."
:dragon: DAC GM |
Ooookay, time to move on! Just to clarify: Kestryl, Brendan and Sharice reached the top and are now riggers.
Mr. Plugg waits to see who will finish between Brendan and Aula, and then raises his voice. "ENOUGH! STOP CLIMBING, GET DOWN HERE NOW! I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR FAILURES TO GO AND FINISH CLIMBING!"
He walks down to the main deck as everyone scrambles to get down. "Alright. You three who finished... you're now riggers. Your first shift starts in a moment. Go see Mr. Scourge over there, lest the failures pollute you."
"And as for you horrid wreches who can't even climb a simple rigging... Can any of you cook?" He spits out these last words with great manace, as if they were a threat rather than an inquiry.
As before, feel free to lie to him, just remember to include the bluff check.... anc the penalties for lying
Sharice |
Sharice lingers a moment at the crow's nest to breathe the fresh salty air before clambering back down. As the others head off to "Mr. Scourge", she delays just long enough to hear the answers to Mr. Plugg's question while she considers her impressions of her two new "colleagues".
She's faster than most humans have a right to be, and he's massively tough. They'll come in handy as allies when it's time to make a move...
Lucia Rhitu |
Lucia gulps at that and shakes her head I can scramble eggs without burning them, but I don't think that's what he's looking for. She takes a quick glance at the people who have been sent off to manage rigging. Well, just glad I'm not going to have to be up that high. Climbing didn't really agree with me...
Aula Heartpiercer |
Aula takes a few seconds to look round from her perch up the rigging, trying to gauge which direction the ship has takes.
Kn geography 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 or survival 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
She then smiles at Kestryl and whispers to herbefore climbing down. "It seems we are fated to work together. We'll need to talk more when we have time."
Kestryl |
Kestry gives Taize an apologetic glance for not being more help. Catch ya later. Maybe now you can get that cooking position?
Kestryl whispers to Brendan Rigger, is that good? At least we'll be in the open air, right? I couldn't stand too much time inside this smelly bucket.
Her heart drops when the Chelish woman is named as a rigger, too. You'd think getting kidnapped and taken out to sea would finally free me from the Chexians, but noooo.
To Aula she says, Uh, yeh, right, we should talk. Seems like fate has got all sorts of fun planned for me.
'Sunny' |
Sunny simply slouches to the deck....obviously still not feeling too well...
Turniphead |
As Turniphead works his way down the rigging at his normal pace, he dusts off his hands, and takes a deep breath.
"There is a bit of rot behind the second spar, and the pulley on the starboard stay is starting to work itself loose". "Wouldn't have noticed that if I was in a big hurry".
Sharice |
Disregard previous post, as Sharice wasn't selected for rigging
Sharice lingers a moment at the crow's nest to breathe the fresh salty air before clambering back down. She remains quiet at Plugg's disdainful remarks, breathing carefully to let the rage flow through her without acting on it just yet, letting the others answer first to buy some time for better self-control.
By the time the others have answered, she even manages a smile that's almost sincere. "I'm afraid not," she replies. "I'd be just as likely to poison you all by accident as I'd be to cook up something nourishing, and that'd be a shame..."
... After all, when I kill you, it's going to be on purpose and it'll be more painful than food poisoning...
'Sunny' |
Sunny groans again at the mention of 'Food' and 'Poison'...
Fort Save:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
And stumbles again to the leeward railing to throw what little is left inside her to the waves.
"I need somat t'heal me..." She croaks..."Whut ever it were I done got dosed with done left me a right mess..." She laments...
Tiberius Locke |
Tiberius meets Plugg's gaze evenly, with no trace of anger or resentment. "I've never cooked before, and haven't done much climbing in my life either. It seems to me that if you'd wanted a specific skill set you might've done better recruiting as opposed to kidnapping, though I have keen eyes and some experience running a ship, so I'm sure you can put me to good use."
Taize Vesper |
Taize decides to take a risk.
"In fact, sir, I had a small cooking kit with me just before I was - recruited."
She stares directly into Plugg's face, knowing that her race's blank white eyes can disturb other races.
She will also not let him know of her low-light vision if he doesn't already know.
'Sunny' |
Sunny acquiesces to Taize's request...and sighs and groans a little in comfort/pleasure from the massage.
"Oooo...that feels good..." Sunny sighs
Fort Save:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 (Plus what ever bonus from Taize's skill roll give me.)
Awe maaaan! Th' dice roller be dislikin' me with a vengeance!
:dragon: DAC GM |
Plugg sees that no one else has volunteered, and that only useless chatter is going on. "SILENCE!" he roars, "YOU FAILURES NEED NOT SPEAK! You two," pointing at Taize and Jensen, "Get to the galley and go help Fishguts. YOU THREE UP IN THE CROW'S NEST: THE FIRST IS TO REPAIR THE RIGGING, AND THE OTHER TWO ARE TO DO LINE WORK! The rest of you... You three(Sunny, Turniphead and Sharice ) go rid us of any rats we've taken aboard. You (Tiberius) Man the bilges. And you (Lucia) go haul rope as Scourge instructs. Now, MOVE IT!" He turns and abruptly heads belowdeacks.
see my next post in the discussion thread, because there's much to say, too much to reasonably post here.
Lucia Rhitu |
Lucia looks for a moment like she might protest, but she starts getting to work without much of an immediate protest. Just try to fit in for now, look at how things go. I need to get an idea of who the players are for the time being, then I can figure out how to assign the roles to the actors. Tonight, maybe I can start working on that...some of the others here might be useful for that too.
Working Diligently for the afternoon, taking the +4 to the strength check.
Strength: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Constitution: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Jensen Roust |
Jensen will mosey on in the direction the first mate has pointed him. Cooking huh, this could get real interesting but at least this lass they are sending me with may know a thing or two about cookin. Who knows I might even learn a thing or two.
He seems to be carefree at the moment.
Sharice |
Sharice gives Plugg another baleful glare before turning away and starting her search for vermin... And taking the opportunity to explore as much of the ship as she can make an excuse for.
Action: sneak -- shouldn't be too difficult as she's already expected to search the ship for vermin.
'Sunny' |
Ah...oopsie! I dun posted me actions in'a discussion thread...So, yah, whut I dun posted there be whut I be doin' here...kind'a thingy...sort'a....like...*Cough*
Aula Heartpiercer |
"Aye sir," answers Aula.
She looks for her assigned place and quickly set out to work.
Prof sailor check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14, Constitution check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
However, as soon as she can, she will try to discuss with some of the other riggers, trying to befriend them. action influence 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15, +2 if they are human
Kestryl |
Kestryl isn't that upset by being press-ganged. She would rather have walked on board under her own power, but at least she gets to be in the open air-- her favorite. Mostly she's cooperating and keeping an eye out for how things work. She is a little thrown by Aula's continued attempts to talk to her.
I wanted to get away, and now I'm 'away'. But everywhere I turn this Cheliaxian is right over me shoulder. At least she seems to know a little something about ships. Mebbe she can help me a little, afore she guts me in my sleep.
Action is talking with her fellow riggers.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Bah! She's impossible to read
Influence: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Do you know *how* I'm supposed to repair this rigging? I've never actually been on a boat before. I'm pretty quick with my hands though, if someone can tell me what needs doin'.
Climb and Dex checks were each 14's above.
Turniphead |
Turniphead had Profession Sailor at +9, and Craft: Carpentry @ +5 should the need arrive.
Rat Hunting: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 Plus darkvision. (Also explore one room of the ship if possible)
FWIW...I find putting the spoiler task thread on a different page than the game thread counter intuitive.
Taize Vesper |
Taize heads to the galley to meet this 'Fishguts'.
"Good morning, sir. I am Taize Vesper and this Gentleman and I have been assigned to assist you. What do you need us to do?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Given what you've listed, Taize will work diligently for the first day.
Profession_Cook: 1d20 + 4 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 7 = 30
'Sunny' |
I explained whut I be tryin' t'do on t'other thread. Will try an' keep it all in this one in'a future.
'Sunny' |
Seeing something in one of the current crew that strikes her fancy Sunny wanders over to the gent and offers a hand held out in greetings.
"G'day t'ye! Folk's they get by with callin' me 'Sunny'. T'is as good as anything I s'pose..." She scratches absently at her blond mop of hair,
"So, whut'd folks be callin' yerself, then?" She continues to smile at the fellow. (^_^)
Sharice |
Exploring the main hold under the pretext of hunting vermin
Sharice sets her Anger over her general situation temporarily aside. Clearing vermin may not be particularly fun, but it's not a job that can be left undone -- and it's best done before the rats chew their way into the food stores.
Besides, this is an outstanding opportunity and excuse to explore the main hold while she's there...
She looks up at Turniphead as they're both abovedecks for a moment to dispose of rat corpses into the ocean. "I can't help but wonder how many other crewmen were 'hired' the same way we were..." she murmurs to him under her breath. "Might be worth looking into."
'Sunny' |
For but a few seconds Sunny actually pouts...
"Hmmmm............"
Then her grin again breaks out,
"Okeys then! Toodles!"
She spins about and skips off in search of some one else to be friendly with. (^_^)
Am happy fer that t'be me action fer th' day. (^_^)
