Game Master acecipher

A skull and shackles game I'm running with an insane number of players (10); new recruitment is CLOSED so please stop applying, especially now that we've started

Hey guys,

I've already said so hopefully plenty of times, but I'd like to reiterate that after noon about tomorrow, I'm not going to b in town for the next 5 days. If you have something really really important, please tell me before then, and don't be too surprised when I don't respond too soon.

That being said, I have some questions for you all:

1) Do you all want to be on one ship, or can I make a second ship in Capt. Harrigan's fleet to put some of you on? I'm equally up for both.

One ship's probably the better idea -- at least during the start of the game, where the characters will need both a way and a reason to bond as a party; all being stuck on the same ship will go a long way to establishing that.

acecipher wrote:

2) Will anyone have problems with somewhat poorly written treasure distribution? The current stuff if just too detailed for me to match without a large outpouring of effort, and although I certainly could, it might just be a distraction from the rest of the adventure.

I only have one real 'wishlist' item in mind for Sharice; as long as nobody gets shafted I'm good.

'acecipher' wrote:

3) How much intrigue does everyone want? Drama? Action? Any requests for Romance? If you want something in the campaign, now is the time to say so (even though I could shoe-horn it in later, its so much better to plan it all beforehand).

1) Intrigue is always fun;

2) Drama can be good as long as it stays IC -- OOC communication's probably key to keeping it that way;
3) Action is good, especially to liven up otherwise dull moments, but we may need to work out a way to handle combat efficiently; if we have to wait on everyone to post in order before proceeding to the next round, a single 'short' fight could last weeks in OOC time...
4) Romance... What happens, happens. Sharice at the very least isn't currently looking.

5)

GM:
As one minor request, once the AP advances a bit and Sharice has a ship of her own, it could be fun for her to meet the miserable bastard that's half-responsible for her existence. At the very least, she'll welcome the closure...

Male Human Ranger 2

Ok, cool. So far everything is within my plans, though running one ship will be an... interesting challenge by itself. I'm definitely going to increase the crew size, however.

@Sharice: expect that to pop up.

Female Human Bard (Court Bard)

I suspect that Lucia's main plot-hook, Lord Endymion's obsession with the opera, may be built into the AP already on some level. Probably not with participation in the Opera, but just a feeling from the ad copy.

Male Half-Elf Magus 1

Personally I would prefer one ship. Though if you take that set of npc's you made and throw them on the same ship it would be almost like an extra ship. Loot I'm cool with whatever we get, as long as there is enough to go around.

And I'm with taize for the most part on number three. Romances are cool, forced ones are not. And I love a story with some good intrigue. Also I used to bea fan of one piece as well, ha ha.

male Human(ulfen) magus 1

1.I want one ship.2. Treasure distirbution detailed for ten people is bad. I do want things like masterwork items and magical described a little but leave mundane stuff plain. 2. Drama not really a problem unless it bores me for some reason. 3. Action is fun. 4. I think I will fail roleplaying romance.

Male Human Ranger 2

Alright, well, just heading off on my field trip now. Hope nothing blows up in the next few days; and after Sunday, hope to see you all are wrapping things up in the Maid before I have to have saps come down on your heads.

--Ace

Female Human Bard (Court Bard)

After much deliberation, I made the following changes: Dropped the Extra Evolution feat and the extra feat from my CP entirely, instead bought +2 skills/level three times to be a little more bardy during my first level. This brings my Slam evolution down to the default (free) Claws. Profile sheet is updated to reflect.

Male Human Ranger 2

Ok cool. How would you guys feel about starting in approx 24 hours by the way?

Male Half-Elf Storm Druid 1

That sounds lovely.

Male Half-Elf Magus 1

Looking forward to it.

Female Human Bard (Court Bard)

Sounds good to me. Initial posting might be delayed a few hours (I work nights and sleep during the day when possible.)

male Human(ulfen) magus 1

I like the way that sounds.

Female Half-elf Urban Barbarian 1 / AC 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12 / hp 14 / Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 / Perception +8

I work during the day and sleep at night, but my night and day don't exactly overlap much with people not on Civilized European Time. :)

Female Samsaran Divine Channeler 1; AC 11/T 10/FF 11; HP 9/9; F +2/R +0/W +5; Init +0; Per +5

Ok by me.

U.S. EST, btw.

Male Human Ranger 2

Ok cool. I'm in US West, but I will be free a lot (a lot a lot after about 2 weeks from now, ESPECIALLY after July 2nd), so yeah, it will be slow for the first month, but hopefully it will pick up after that.

Male Hobgoblin Cleric 1

EST. Si.

Male Human Ranger 2

Okay, got everything going a bit early. Just post up so that we're all there and ready for a nice big speechy thing.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

Addin' in a linky thing! (^_^) LINK

Grand Lodge

Female Sylph Rogue- Sniper

Putting in my two coppers a little late. Luckily it seems to be along with the majority.

One boat. There may be attrition anyway, so...

Action style: I too like the Pirates of the Caribbean style. Humor, swashbuckling, some curses, some undead... Some dark elements, but not you know, Cthulu.

Romance: I think leave it up to the PC's to choose. If there are some romance-worthy npc's floating around, that's fine, but mostly up to the characters to choose. Kestryl's emotionally at the stage where flirting consists of stupid pranks to get his attention. Not so ready for finding a soul-mate.

Treasure: As long as there's balance long term.

GM Ace:
I took the Eye for Plunder trait which says 50 gp worth of extra loot found on the ship. I'd be happy if it were Masterwork Thieves tools, and some nice arrows. Just a request... Couldn't afford the thieves tools starting off.

Backstory: Repeating: Mostly survival, then looking for survivors of her caravan, and revenge for those killed. If there's a chance to tie in with Aula's storyline that might be cool.

Alright cool; your imput isn't actually too late, and I'll try to keep everyone close to income parity for their level (Probably a tiny bit low because of all of your stats).

And your GM request is approved.

Oh yeah, sorry for doing it without permission, but I rolled some stuff for you guys. Usually I'll try to get you guys to roll it, but it was a wee bit too complex so I just did all the work. Now get to climbing!!!

Grand Lodge

Female Sylph Rogue- Sniper

Do I need to roll more or am I there?

Kestryl wrote:

Sorry about that; I didn't see you had done more rolls. You had enough to go up and down the rigging with your current rolls, so yeah. I mean you essentially auto-succeed on it so its no big deal.

Female Human Spell-less Ranger 1

I think you've missed my rolls. I should not be far from the lead.

Did I? Maybe I confused you with sharice, hold on....

Indeed I did. All is now corrected, congratulations on becoming a rigger.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

*Bounces up and down* Whut about me? I got pretty good scores gin' up th' ropes. (^_^)

Okay, does that mean Sharice doesn't become a rigger? Asking for clarity's sake, mostly.

Female Samsaran Divine Channeler 1; AC 11/T 10/FF 11; HP 9/9; F +2/R +0/W +5; Init +0; Per +5

Just a quick note: I will not be able to post tomorrow until very late. We have a family trip to Hershey Park (mid-state) for my daughter's school picnic. [She's cyber-schooled and that's the most convenient place for the school to include everyone.] Today should be fine, though.

No, she doe not.

And that's fine Taize, I'll try to get the cook thing sorted soon then.

Female Half-elf Urban Barbarian 1 / AC 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12 / hp 14 / Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 / Perception +8

Hokay. I'll repose then to amend.

male Human(ulfen) magus 1

WST.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

SNAP

Or...we could play 'Go fish'...? :/

Okay, so:

I need checks from all of you, as per the following:

Spoiler:

Kestryl: Climb, Profession (Sailor)/Dex
Brendan, Aula: Profession (Sailor)/Dex, Constitution
Tiberius: Strength, consitution
Sunny, Turniphead, Sharice: Stealth/Survival/Dex
Lucia: Strength, Constitution

This is for your work today. Also you each can take 1 shipboard action as detailed below:

Spoiler:

Work Dilligently: +4 on one check for a daily task
Influence: Talk to a PC
Sneak: Explore one room of the ship.
Shop: -2 to work checks, and visit the quartermaster's store
Shirk: -2 to work checks, and take 10 on a perception check but risk detection.

Taht is all, but this will be relevant for a while so I wanted to make it more accessible by putting it here.

--Ace

Female Half-elf Urban Barbarian 1 / AC 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12 / hp 14 / Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 / Perception +8

Do we need to roll one of those stats, or all of them?

Sharice wrote:

You only need to roll one of them. were there another separated by a comma, you would ahve to roll for that too.

Male Half-Elf Magus 1

my i suggest putting the ship actions and such into the campaign info page, so it is not lost in the posts and we will have easy access to and what not.

such as done here.

Male Half-Elf Storm Druid 1

Any way Tiberius can make use of his shipboard training to help with his duties? He's got a +9 to Profession (Sailor), which is significantly better than his strength and constitution stuff.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

Awe...Poot!. Sunny din't make it as a 'Rigger rat'. :(

Spoiler:

Stealth:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Survival:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Dex:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Ship Action: Soo then...seein' as she were past over fer 'Riggin' rat', Sunny will get t' natterin' wi' th' crew!

Diplomacy:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16(^_^)

Sunny: I will take your first roll, which was an auto 20, because you only needed to do one. Also you need to choose a member from the crew roster... which I will type up soon, unless you want to interact with one of the ones from earlier; I do also expect you to somewhat RP this, or at least what you do.

Also please put that in the gameplay thread from now on.

Also Tiberius, sadly that will not do... the tables are what they are. Almost all can use Profession (Sailor) but you just got one that didn't.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

Aye...yah, but folks was postin' here...so I jus', y'know', fell in wi' 'em. (^_^)

Will keep it all in'a proper place next time, honest! (^_^)

As fer who in'a crew t' be talkin' too? Who's scamperin' around in'a like frame o' mind as Sunny?

Much cheers t'ye an' yours! (^_^)

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

In reply to a question by the DM:

So, ye were askin' who it were I'd be chatterin' to an' such once ye have listed the crew.

1)Quartermaster Cut-Throat Grok (female half-orc)
2)Boatswain's mate Patch Patchsalt (female Gnome)
3)Sandra Quinn (One of the four new recruits with you, the hot one)
4)Rosie Cusswell (One of the four new recruits with you, the halfling female)
5)Crimson "Cog" Cogward (One of the four new recruits with you, the angry human male)
6)Conchobhar Turlach Shortstone (One of the four new recruits with you, the male gnome with the purple hat)
7)Barefoot Samms Toppin (female human)
8)Giffer Tibbs (Female Gnome)
9)Tilly Brackett (female human)
10)“Badger” Medlar (female half-elf)-Old woman
11)Shivikah (female human)-tall Mwangi
12)Aretta Bansion (female human)
13)Slippery Syl Lonegan (female human)

1d13 ⇒ 5

So Crimson "Cog" Cogward (One of the four new recruits with you, the angry human male) be the feller who I initially drift around an' try t' get t'know a tad better. (^_^)

Okaaaaaay... we're going to have to RP that out Sunny. Sorry everyone else this might take a little while :P

Also jenen, Taize: I will post something about the cook later for you two.

Female Half-elf Urban Barbarian 1 / AC 15, touch 13, flat-footed 12 / hp 14 / Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 / Perception +8

It's probably best if you go split-scene at this point and let the groups of PCs in different locations RP parallel, I think...

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

Or...use 'tagged' spoilers, maybe?

Just a thought/suggestion. (^_^)

Much cheers t'ye and all!

Sharice: THat is my plan. You need a perception roll to accompany your exploration by the way.

Sunny: Good idea, I'll do that if there's some relevant information at stake that should be spoilered, but otherwise I'll just put someone's name before the relevant section of post, ESPECIALLY if its something the whole party should be aware of.

And wow, post sat here for 4 hours as I finished homework >.> at least I have my priorities straight. TIme to call it a night again though.

--Ace

Sorry for not posting much guys, its finals week at my university and usually I have more than enough IRL stuff to take up more than its fair share of free time. I'll be much free-er after next Wednesday.

male Human(ulfen) magus 1

I have finals as well.

Island Elf(link) Perception:+8, Init:+4,

Wishin' ye in all yer times of troubles an' trials all'a best! (^_^)

In the list of rooms on board ship, some have dashes and some have ">" in front. Does that indicate which rooms we have free access to, and which we haven't seen yet?

Kestryl is eyeing an exploratory mission, and trying to choose a destination.
