Ajani freezes, the suggestion stunning him for a moment. However, as terrified as he is of the storm, the thought of sending all his comrades to suicide in the chop of water around them snaps him back into focus.

He raises his voice loud, yelling through the wind and the rain,"No disrespect, Cap'n, but I will NOT sacrifice one member of this crew to your wild delusion that this storm is sail-able!"

Without even waiting for a response, he looks to the others in the rigging with him. "Reef the main and top, double-time, but don't stay up here if the wind's about to toss you overboard! If this wind gets much heavier it could pull the mainmast down! If it leans a fraction too much, cut the sails down! We can fix ropes in the sunshine!" he calls aloud, immediately scrambling through the lines to do as much as he can to reduce the exposed area of the sails before the ship is capsized by the storm.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Coming up from the bilge, where he has left the owlbear to continue on the pumps, Fjori takes a quick look at the insanity which Plugg has got them into. He nods in agreement as Ajani starts to reef the mainsail.
"Come on lads, lets get that canvas down."

Fjori will try and help wherever he can using his seamanship to lead him to the areas most needing work.

Ajani responds, utter confidence in his voice as he orders a different set of actions. Those who have called the group friends respond immediately to the directions but the other half of the crew stalls and looks down at Plugg who is turning a scarlet crimson at the obvious resistance to his instructions. There is no doubt that he is moving to pull his sword when Slippery Syl's voice breaks through the tension from the Crow's WAVE! PORT STERN!

It is obvious to everyone suddenly that the ship has mere seconds before being struck by a wave easily 15-18 feet tall.

Hassan stares up at the high rigging as it sways and whips in the wind. He is just about to leap into action (so he swears to this very day, though only the gods know if it is true) when the cry cuts across the deck. "WAVE! PORT STERN!"

His eyes flick to the horizon for but a brief second. Without a thought he unhooks the rope he had surreptitiously secured around himself earlier in the day, and tosses the loose end at the nearest secure object. With a flick of the wrist and a few magic words, he casts Animate Rope!, mentally commanding the rope to tie and knot itself tightly.

With mere seconds left before the wave strikes the ship, he looks about for anyone close enough to grab hold off, lest they be swept from the deck and into the roiling sea.

Just as the crew is beginning to fly into action at the newly-given orders, Ajani utterly ignoring Plugg as he reaches for his blade, the cry goes up from a familiar voice: "WAVE! PORT STERN!"

Like Hassan, Ajani's eyes flick to the huge wave building off the side of the ship, coming quickly. His heart skips a beat. Himself going for the rope he'd tied around himself before the work for the day began, he scrambles to secure the other end of the rope he tied around himself earlier in the day around the sturdiest thing at hand. He tries his best to focus only on the knot, keeping his mind away from the wave that is about to bear down on them.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter (Brawler) 3

Bart does not rush off to follow Ajani's orders. His eyes are on Plugg. When the captain goes for his blade, Bart's hand slips into his pocket, wrapping around his brass knuckles. He is just about to draw when the call goes out - "WAVE! PORT STERN!"

Bart's heart skips a beat and he turns to face the monster wave. All thoughts about Plugg forgotten, Bart rushes to hang onto the sturdiest thing he can fins and hangs on for dear life.

Fjori turns to confront the wave as it rolls towards the ship. He turns his face into the storm and laughs loud and long, feet spread apart, and hands on his hips.

M Gnome Conjurer

The treacherous gnome already has a pad of butter at the ready and takes advantage of the confusion to surreptitiously grease Plugg's feet before slipping below decks.

cast grease DC 15 and move below decks.

Female (posing as male) Human Swashbuckler Rogue 2 (favoured class)/Urban Ranger 2

Mell spots the wave an instant before the cry goes up and throws herself into a secure corner securing the rope she has around her waist to a cleat.

She looks in amazement as Fjori merely laughs in the teeth of the storm..

"Ulfen...mad...everyone off them..stone mad" she mutters as she braces herself for the impact

Sorry realized I needed to do some calculations for the rest of the crew, I should have a post up this afternoon.

The wave crashes into the ship, the top two feet or so easily breaking over the rail. The ship shifts dramatically on its side the rights itself with equal force.

A few of the Rahadoumi drop to the deck in the swing as would have Rosie Cuswell and Barefoot Samms if it weren't for the timely intervention of Hassan and Ajani. Rosie offers the verbose sorcerer a quick hug before untangling herself while Samms holds on to Ajani for dear life.

Fjori keeps his footing as the water and spray careens around him, in some ways only adding to the insanity of the display as others scramble for safety.

Bart, Mel and Quillin fare well enough though the gnome gets banged about a bit under the deck.

Scourge and Tate take a tumble but manage to stay upright for the most part. Plugg, on the other hand, falls flat in the grease, leaving his head on the deck when the ship tilts. Unable to get a grip the mutinous "captain" slide face first into the sidewall of the poop and despite the din of the storm and the crew almost everyone can hear the *thump* of his skull against the wood.

From the crows Syl continues to scream this time two messages. The first is offered with some relief, Land Ho! Until the second more desperate cry, SHIPBREAKER!

A wave some 30 feet tall seems to appear from nowhere in the wind and rain. An almost sub audible roar seems suddenly apparent as the mass of water and darkness bears down on the ship.

Forgive my language, but...oh, hell. Please don't die please don't die!

Ajani clings tightly back to Samms, even so far as to wrap his prehensile tail around her waist, shouting over the din that he would not let her go.

As soon as he finishes his message of reassurance, the shout from Syl goes out. The first fills Ajani with elation...and the second with terror. Seeing the massive wave building out of nowhere, Ajani's heart seems almost to stop for a moment.

Knowing that there is nowhere to run from it, he tightens his hold on Samms as much as he can, yelling for her to take a deep breath before doing the same, simply praying that the rope (and his knot) are strong enough to hold. If worse comes to worst, he knows he can swim. If Samms can hold onto him and he onto her, they could possibly swim to shore in the direction Syl saw land on.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Is it too late to say that I am clinging to Hassan?! LOL

The wave roars upon the Promise like thunder and smashes into the ship. Lines snap and sailors yell as the ship is thrown to its side and then turned under the waves.

Ajani, in a bid to hold Samms and keep a grip on his lines, loses even his superior grip and smashes to the deck as the boat rolls over. He fights to save conscious and succeeds, catching his breath at the last minute before water rushes at him. Ajani takes 5 regualr then 10 subdual

Beneath the deck the sudden turning of the boat throws the gnomish wizard for a tumble as poor hand holds and a lack of height makes it difficult for Quillin to steady himself as he slams about below decks. Quillin takes 6 regular then 12 subdual

Hassan offers his defiance to the wave and with a thought moves the rope to Rosie. Fjori clamors to the side of the sorcerer and as the yell at Gozreh together the waves smashes into the ship. For all his life at sea and the blood that ties him to it, the sheer power of the wave knocks Hassan from his feet and squeezes the air from his chest, blackness the only thing that greats him as the ship takes its treacherous roll.Hassan takes 12 regular and 24 subdual

Fjori, steel backed and sure griped takes a snapping rope in his hands at the last moment in one hand and snatches up the sorcerer in the other, using the turning of the deck to keep their feet on the deck. As the ship rolls Fjori can only hold on to his lifeline and the sorcerer and watch the water meet him. Fjori takes 5 subdual

Bart and Mel fare best, thrown to mast and tied to deck the roll is shortest and easiest to see. As the ship turns over both the girl as boy and brawler keep their wits about them as the water comes to meet them. No Damage

Many others fare less well and the screams of the crew can be heard until the final crash of the boat flipping. Even in the water the telltale *thwips* and *cracks* of deck planks, rigging lines and mast breaking and stressing can be heard in the water.

Floating in that chaos the next wave comes a few heartbeats later and again and again. The Promis re-rights itself and then falls to its side and those of you who are still conscious can do little save for hold on.

The storm goes on and on, the ship rarely able to come close to proper standing the entire journey lasts but a few more minutes but it is a world upside down and fraught with terror.

With a sudden shudder everything lurches forward then stops. The waves are crashing but the water is missing. There is the sound of surf and wind and rain and even of its side it it plain to see the Promis has run aground. In mere seconds there is yelling all about the ship of various sorts and one very obvious scream as Quinn yell Let go of me!

The Promise is on its side at this point. Ajani and Samms are basically resting on the sidewall. Mel is tied to the ground leaning sidewall. Fjori, Bart and Hassan are essentially hanging off the mast. Quilin is below decks (but oriented sideways). There are holes throughout the ship and two of three masts are missing. Sails and ropes are pretty much trashed. Other than Samms and the lot of you there isn't really anyone else easily viewable on the main deck save for a Slippery Syl who apparently got knocked from the crow's and is caught up in a bunch of line off the remaining front mast.

I wanna cast a spppeeeelllll!

When Ajani's grip fails, his immediate reaction is not to flail about seeking purchase, but to tighten his grip on Samms even further, clearly intending to use his body as a shock absorber for her. The impact knocks the breath from his lungs, eliciting a sharp gasp as a shooting pain rockets through him and he only barely manages to catch his breath before sucking up a lungful of saltwater.

After the water recedes what seems like at least two lifetimes later and a moment of respite is finally seen, he looks down at the woman that he has clutched tightly to his chest, wanting to ascertain any damage that she may have taken from the fall, hoping he bore the brunt of it on himself. "Samms? Samms, are you alright?" he asks weakly.

He has only time for a cursory examination, and her response, when he suddenly hears Quinn's cry. Slowly, Ajani gets to his feet, finally releasing Samms from his grip as he does. The pain of the movement makes him grit his teeth as he tries to resist the urge to pass out as well as the sense of vertigo that washes over him.

"Q...Quinn?" he calls in a hesitant voice, hoping he can manage a loud enough volume to be heard by here, wherever she is.

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Fjori shakes the water from his face, and lets out one last bellow of anger to the wrathful god. As he hears Quinn's voice, he tries to discover where she is. He looks to drop to the deck, if it is safe and possible, or will climb down.

oops....hehe...me too!!!

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Fjori and Ajani can not only hear Quinn but Scourge and others too as their voices seem to get further away with haste. The words are difficult to make out but it would appear that at least some of the crew is leaving the site, and taking the cleric with them.

Mel struggles in her corner to untangle herself from debris and in general find her feet at the odd angle but a half minute of careful climbing should see her to the ground just fine.

Ajani also notes that he only really needs to flip over the sidewall and drop about 10 feet to reach the rocky shore.

Fjori and Bart are in a bit of a rougher spot. Hanging from the main mast, the pitch of the ship makes it so a straight drop would probably lead to clipping the sidewall rather than fall on it even. In theory you could slide on the deck, but the angle is extreme and a wrong move might lead to a broken bone or worse.

Bart has the better position as he is able to stay on top of the mast and not really struggle. Fjori on the other hand is wrapped in line and holding Hassan, which is not something he can do for much longer without testing his endurance.

Quillin finds himself in mostly darkness with the barest light of the storm riddled sky peeking through the broken spots of deck. He is, as best he can tell, in the main hold but on the side. The stairs are pitched at a crazy angle which make using them all the more problematic.

A small Gnomish voice can be heard from off the ship Ho there! Anyone up there? Shortstone can be heard scrabbling in the rock below.

To clarify the ship is on its side but not flush to the ground. There is rock and what not at the base of hull which leads the ship to be slightly angled rather than fully on its side, hopefully that makes sense, let me know.

Male Human (Qadira) Sorcerer 3 (Seaborn Bloodline)

I'll just gently point out that if Hassan takes even a single additional point of damage of any type, he will move from unconscious to dying. (Once your total nonlethal damage total equals your max hit points, additional nonlethal damage is converted to lethal. As Hassan has 18 HP and took 12 lethal, the last 6 points of the 24 nonlethal convert to lethal, putting him at exactly 0 (thank goodness it wasn't any more!)

Fjori, please be careful with my almost-corpse.

Oh yeah, whoops

Samms seems pretty frazzled bust physically okay. She sort of looks over the scene and frowns, We need to get off the boat and see what the hull looks like...

Male Human (Ulfen) Ranger (Freebooter) 3

Is it possible to go hand-over-hand to either a spot where he can hang drop safely (and lower Hassan safely down to the others) or move towards the mast and climb down that way?

I'm at 0 with the non-lethal. anything strenuous and i'm KO.
Can I think of anywhere likely to have a stash of healing potions?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Fighter (Brawler) 3

Bart slowly rolls over to hang upside down on the mast. Hand over hand he swings in a manner that would seem much more appropriate to a certain simian crewman. Once he feels that he can safely lower himself down without risking breaking something, he will do so.

Yes you have all your gear. Fjori yes it is possible to do that I will need a climb check please.

With a well placed drop Bart hits the sidewall with no obvious injury. The wood creaks but holds and the Chelaxian is free to roam the angled ship on foot. Mel also makes her way to her feet and is able to make her way.

Peering over the side Bart and Mel can see the ground roughly 20 feet down. Not a pleasant drop but there is plenty of line around to make something to climb down on.

Quillin hears an angry *sqwak* in response. If you can find Quinn's chest (which is around here on the deck) she might have something locked away. Otherwise Plugg's cabin seems the next best bet.
