DM

I'm going to let you guys make your final selections before moving on - its the easiest way to prevent retcon's here. :)

I'm fine with whatever. i'd give Ez or Marcus dibbs if they wanted to save an immediate friend/family member (give preference to PC's over NPC's), but if neither of them want to claim jak's save, then you can definitely choose one of Eluon's daughters.

DM

We'll see what they say. I'm inclined, given how skewed the culling has been, to actually restore someone from one of the totally wiped NPC families or pick someone that could be a fun NPC to build on. Had Ritti Rallo died... she would have been my first choice. :)

I was definitely glad to see that she made it. :-)

She was the first name I looked for, and would have been Jak's save. :D

Cool. I'll do that then.

Thank you, Aerik! You are awesome!

DM

I knew I liked you guys for a reason. :D

I was surprised how many of my burgeoning favorite NPCs survived. I was figuring on maybe a couple living through it.

A's Pick - Harmon Strom
E's Pick - ?
J's Pick - variable
L's Pick - Allegra Strom
M's Pick - ?

You are quite welcome. He's certainly an interesting character. :)

Lol. Yeah there was no way she was going to die. My bro and I were talking about her and she was the first name we looked for after our families.

I'm re-"reading" The Song of Ice and Fire series thru books on CD for my long commute every day. Definitely getting an Arya Stark vibe from Red.

DM

I don't think I've read that series. Admitting that probably makes me a heathen, eh? ;)

Arya Stark is not a bad name but Ritti 'Red' Rallo has 'epic win' written all over it!

I began teh series, but have rn out of steam. He's an excellent writer; I just don't like having my investment in his characters turn out to mean nothing.

Arya is one of my fav's though, and I can see the similarities with Red.

Trip R's does make it roll off the tongue. :)

I've decided--I'll save Heather

DM

Heather Braun will live to find boys less 'icky'.

Ez... ball is in your court.

A's Pick - Harmon Strom
E's Pick - ?
J's Pick - variable
L's Pick - Allegra Strom
M's Pick - Heather Braun

Going through the list now. Yeesh on that list though.

Okay, that's really a tough call. The story possibilities from each selection are just wonderful (in a morbid sense that is).

I think it's got to be Olivia. While having Rowan live opens a few options, I think her death would hit him hardest. Having Olivia live though would give him enough reason to not just end it right there though, whereas if it was Gavin (my other consideration RP wise), he might just not care as much.

DM

As you wish, Olivia will live. You could use Jak's up-for-grabs pick to save Rowan as well. With her hubby, your cousin, out of the way...

Well, I'll let you decide if you guys want to take that option. :)

A's Pick - Harmon Strom
E's Pick - Olivia Finiose
J's Pick - variable
L's Pick - Allegra Strom
M's Pick - Heather Braun

DM

I'd like to press on here... any objections to using Jak's vote to save Rowan Finiose?

stormraven wrote:

Hmm, I misread somewhere, thinking that it had been used. I think it was Aerick saving Lyrica's father. As long as Jak doesn't mind, I'd appreciate it.

DM

I'm pretty sure Jak won't mind. He gave you guys carte blanche to use his vote any way you'd like.

So, Rowan gets to live and I get to write up my next post! win win!

Are you kidding? I love the role-playing. Lyrica and Allegra would likely check on their neighbors next, so I'm going to move them to the Wynn's house. However, if you are ready to move everyone fast forward, please feel free. The Wynn's may or may not have heard the girls at the door.

DM

Assuming your question wasn't rhetorical... I wasn't kidding.

:| <-- See this? This is my serious face.
}:| <-- And this my serious face when I don't trim my eyebrows. :D

Different folks have different tolerances for RP, drama, and melodrama... I try to walk the middle-ground where everyone is happy, which can be a challenge when you don't have the players dialed in yet.

I was going to prompt Aerik that he can answer at the Wynn household or not... but it seems I've been Druinja'd!

Total aside, one of my favorite BBEGs was a gestalt Druid/Ninja... that guy was badass.

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

No, it was rhetorical. I just want you to know that I'm having a really great time. This feels like its going to be a great campaign!

Hey Folks, I am leaving for Thanksgiving to my inlaws on Wednesday and we will be returning on Friday. Internet will be questionable for the next few days, but I'll post if I can.

DM

Have a good Turkey Day!

Also, I'm glad you are liking the game!

Gents, I've added/modified two spoilers under the Campaign Tab. The Dies Drear Populace one shows the families and recent deaths. The Dies Drear Post-Mist Populace shows who all is left.

(hp 11/35, AC 18, T 13, FF 15, Initiative +3, Perception +9)

i for one am loving the RP. im already feeling the cthulu-style despair vibe.

DM

Oh good... then you'll LOVE what's coming next. :)

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

I am feeling despair because for some reason I decided to leave my armor in the house. I think it is time to stop worrying about what the others think and come out of the closet as a real paladin in shining armor! :-)

DM

This is what you get when you don't listen to your big sister!

Paladins without armor... what is this world coming to.

I left my spear in the grove when I ran with my tail between my legs. :(

DM

I appreciate you guys making my job (character slaughter) easier but really... stop lobbing these softballs at me. You take all the joy out of watching you vainly struggle to survive. :D

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

With five hit points and no armor, I am tempted to run back in the house. I think Sarenrae would forgive me!

DM

Lawful Good AIN'T Lawful Stupid.

Well, just fall back until we know what we're fighting... I'll try my best to keep you on your feet. :)

I'm also pretty sure Jak will be sleeping in his armor for the forseeable future... weapons near to hand. :)

SR, would you prefer I wait on ole Zeke to go first?

DM

Since you are coming from the other side and can clearly see the problem... feel free to act. :)

Screaming like a little girl is a Free action.

I'll keep that in mind. :P

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

I cannot see Lyrica as a screamer. She is emotional, gentle, and passionate, but I cannot see the screaming part of it. Unless she was startled, perhaps. Hmm?

That makes one of us. ;D

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

I am heading off shortly. Please feel free to bot Lyrica when her turn comes up. She is not going to be able to help much in the state she is in. Maybe have her run back to her house and don her armor.

DM

Thanks for the heads-up. Depending on how things go - who is off to enjoy turkey day and whatnot - we may just suspend play till folks are back. I'll be here through the evening to drop posts and haunt your nightmares. >:D

Okay, so i'm leaving in the morning to go down to my folks' place for Thanksgiving. Don't know how likely it'll be that I'll post tomorrow through Saturday.

Feel free to bot Jak as needed. :)

(just do it charmingly)

(hp 11/35, AC 18, T 13, FF 15, Initiative +3, Perception +9)

happy thanksgiving! :)

I managed to sneak off to a computer for a minute. Will be home tomorrow night. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

um, she would have had to go thru my entangle. i was going to withdraw and drop the entangle anyhow, so i dunno how SR normally handles this kinda stuff. Either way, this was gonna be my move:

I'm sorry if I caused any problems. I should probably be patient and just wait my turn, but I sometimes cannot help myself and post in the hopes of moving things along. If the entangle is dismissed, that certainly works out for Lyrica and her approach. Even without the dismissal, I was hoping to move along the edge of the house and try to avoid the entangle. I can do whatever Stormy wants me to do.

As a chess player, I know the greatest defense is a strong offense. It is how I have always played the game. I just hope that it is not too foolish. I really like my character a lot! Hit point are certainly low, but then again, so is nearly everyone else. I will admit, it does add a level of suspense that I am not use to except perhaps on the chess board at a tournament. You can feel the tension in the air as thick as a knife as the clock ticks away and you are trying to see your opponent's move coming up! We will wait and see. Tick . . . Tick . . . . Tick . . . .

Lyrica Strom wrote:

Oh I think Capablanca, Karpov, and the other gods of positional play may have a thing or two to say against that theory. :) A stifling, multi-layered, slow envelopment with redundant defenses may not be sexy but it does get the job done.

I'm assuming you are a Kasparov kinda fella based on your approach. And, let's be honest, Romantic (as opposed to Positional) play is way more fun and exciting. And Kasparov did spank Karpov a few times. So even the 'Boa Constrictor' approach can be beaten.

I recognize the words, but can't imagine they're speaking English...

DM

LOL!

I actually chopped out a bunch of text there because I figured I'd probably totally lose the non-Chess types in the audience. :D

Suffice it to say, right about now, Lyrica is probably wondering who is sitting across the table from her... and will he snap her White Queen off the board? >:)

And here i just thought your Google-and-wiki-Fu was strong. ;)

DM

Oh, my Wiki-Fu is strong - fortified with Wheaties - but not in this case. :)

(hp 38/38, AC 17, T 11, FF 11, Initiative +1, Perception +5, Fort +8, Ref +6, Will +10)

I can play a positional game of chess, but I much prefer the open games where tactics abound. I love games where I can use discovery, forks, skewers, and pins and win pieces convincingly. However, the stronger the opponent, the more I need to rely on the positional strategies of the game, because they see all of the tactics that are unfolding. As for Lyrica, if she is half a chess player, she should know not to let her queen come out too early in the game! She may be powerful, but she cannot afford to be a target.

DM

So who is your favorite player? Who do you most want to emulate when you play? Who's brilliancies do you goggle at?
