Aid token overview:

Aid tokens can be used as a free action for any of the uses below. In high-conflict areas, the aid tokens may not work as expected. Once the token is used, it is sent to another table for their use.
  • Aid another: A Pathfinder helps you solve a puzzle, trap, or other task, performing the Aid Another action on a single check.
  • Allied Offensive: A Pathfinder strikes at the same time as you, adding 1d8 to the damage of one attack. The target is considered flanked until the beginning of the attacker's next turn.
  • Burst of Healing: All of the PCs are healed of 1d6 points of damage. This may also be used to cast neutralize poison, remove curse, or remove disease at CL 5.
  • Spellcasting Synergy: A spell is cast simultaneously with your own, increasing CL and DC by 1.
  • Timely inspiration: The party receives the effects of the inspire courage and inspire competence bardic performances (+1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls and +2 competence bonus on one particular skill).

Navigating the convoluted hallways, you enter a restricted library. Twelve bookcases line the walls of this cozy lounge room. Their shelves are crammed with books, scroll tubes, and tablets. Comfortable furnishings are arrayed so that scholars may examine the works without needing to remove them from the room. It may be here that Aram Zey hid his notes about the Hao Jin Tapestry.

Four men stand amidst scattered books and documents. One shouts "Damn. Time to leave, boys!"

He steps back, pulls out a flask, and throws it into the room. An ornate carpet quickly ignites. Attempts to extinguish the fire require either five or more gallons of water or a standard action CMB check. Attempts to search any bookshelf requires a standard action and Perception check.

Stormy: you auto keep one from spreading and put one out after two rounds. If you could do the 5 gal in one round, you would be putting one out per round from the sound of it.
Non-water we have to make a check to put the fire out it looks like. I guess if we fail the check by a little we just keep the fire from spreading. But we don't know if that is true yet.
We do what we think is best till it gets to much. Then we try to find the notes we came here for if it gets to much.

Yable: If the number of fires get much higher we won't be able to stop them. Maybe there is another way to put out the fires that would be faster? We think that notes about the Hao Jin Tapestry may be in here.
Worse case they make 4 more fires. If fire spreads each round we would have 6 new fires if we don't get stop the fires.
Really it is up to what would Yable do. If he would feel it is best to hold them off while others work on the fires; it sounds fine with me. We don't know if they will run or stay.

GM: Giving that this is a library. Would we know if the Society would have some type of safety system or plan to protect the documents? Like a ward that when activated would soak the middle of the room with water, chill the room or suck out the air. Something to protect the books from fire? Or a plan for what people are to do if a fire breaks out?

    Silver Crusade

Stormy, I'm assuming that the reason they set the amount at 5 gallons (and thus beyond 1-2 Create Water) is that at every other tier the fire spreads significantly faster, and that the design intent is to make it harder to solve than a single cantrip.

Penda, you suspect if there were an emergency system of that nature, it would have activated by now, though this is the first time you've been granted access to this particular library. The Society does have specialists in magically repairing damaged documents, though those efforts take time that you don't have at this particular moment.

Yea, I know. And maybe I should. Its just that something seems wrong here. If we all worked only to put out the fire I am not sure we could and I do not believe that is how its suppose to work, is it? I am not sure there is a canned mechanic for fires and fire spread but what I have seen in the past fires did not auto spread each round. Could I make maybe a knowledge nature to get an understanding of our chances to put the fire out?

    If so...:

    Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

    Silver Crusade

Stormy, I believe there are a few different fire mechanics in a few different places (at least one in an AP). This particular one may be unique to the scenario. That said, the CMB check is fairly low (past rolls indicate 10 fails and 14 succeeds).

Fine. I'd still like a knowledge nature to understand how the fire spreads so that I might realize there is no chance I will put it out and so could have a reason to switch to perception. ???

We need to get these under control. Hurry up with those Aspis Dogs before this entire room burns down.

The man with the keys tries to open the door. The first key he tries clicks in the lock, enabling him to swing the door open and shout. "Let's get outta here!" as he begins to step through.

The flames continue to spread, nearly hemming Penda in.

Seeing a Paladin and an increasingly large amount of fire between him and the newly opened door, Green instead turns and flees towards the open entrance you arrived through. Withdraw. Kailun may make an AOO if he has a weapon out. Green's effectively out of the fight unless you're determined to chase him down.

Stormy, upon looking at Create Water more closely, I'd allow it to work over a larger area (1 square/gallon) and stop those squares from spreading, but it would only be slowly actually putting those squares out.

    Kailun and Penda are up.
