Game Master Runner188

I have been running a campaign set in Golarian where our Paladin dropped out. We are now looking for a replacement player (though not necessarily a paladin). Our current party consists of a monk, a wizard (divination), a cleric (channeling negative energy), and a rogue. So as you can see, they are running light in a couple different aspects. Since they have been playing already, I will rely heavily on them for the final decision, but I will make the decision itself.

This is my first time DMing, so I am still developing my DM style. This means I am a little more flexible on rules (if you have a good logical argument for why something should work a certain way, I'm open to hearing it). However, when I make a decision, it is final.

Character Creation Guidelines:
-1st level
-20 point buy
-Max gold for your class
-All classes and archetypes from paizo are open
-All 0-level races are open. You can use alternate racial traits/feats/equipment from the ARG, but cannot create a new race
-2 Traits
-Take 1 free skill point in a Craft, Profession or Performance skill to reflect your background. This will be a class skill

Campaign Info:
Feel free to take a look at the gameplay thread to see what play has been like so far. One note that I would make, is that this campaign was created for some friends of mine that don't have a lot of time for a RL game. So the game starts kind of slow. But the Paladin that dropped out is the person who has been slowing us most.

With all of the above, I will now say, I expect two posts a week. More than that, is great. That just means we can move faster. It will be a little slower than some campaigns, but it is picking up speed.

The campaign is set in a small town in Varisia called Sirathu (if you have previous information about Sirathu, such as from "Guide to Korvosa" etc., ignore it. I have based it in Golarian, but there are changes to some of the smaller towns).

I would prefer your submissions to be in a new profile, but do not require it. I will initially keep recruitment open for a week. This may change if I get an overabundance or lack of submissions. But unless you hear otherwise, I will close recruitment on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Midnight (GMT).

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Looking good so far. I'm liking these character concepts.

Edward:
I'm counting a 24 point buy on Patrick. Look over that again please. I'm working with a 20 point buy.

John:
I'm assuming that you'll finish the incomplete parts later? Let me know when they're done. Otherwise looks good, just don't forget the free skill point in a craft/profession/performance skill.

Bandon:
Looks great. No questions about it yet. Just let me know when you've finished the modifications.

Marcus:
Looking good. Just don't forget the free skill point in a craft/profession/performance skill.

DM:

Assimar Angelblood gets +2 str and +2 Cha. I gave up the assimar spell like abilities for the alternate racial trait of additional +2 strength.
If this does not work for you that is fine I will adjust accordingly.

Sczarni

I'd like to present Dagbur, a straight up barbarian. He's loyal, fearless, internally sad, but externally positive to a fault. He's not the noble and proud barbarian from the lands to the north, but was found on the Mediogalti islands, and is much more animalistic and wild. He's great to have around when things get physical, just might need to be pointed in the right direction sometimes. :)

About Dagbur:

Standing big and strong, the large and plain looking human seems uncomfortable in his own skin, the stooped shoulders cannot hope to hide the mans size. Green flecked eyes occasionally meet yours if approaches him in conversation, but more often those same eyes slide away from yours like ice in the flame. A shock of sandy brown hair sits upon his head, and it's evident that it has been a while since the tangled mass has seen a comb.

In contrast to the meek appearance, there is a huge sword rising over his right shoulder, also plain, but clearly has seen some substantial use. The way Dagbur moves shows his awareness and familiarity with the weapon at his back. He also is wearing well-worn hide armor, and the redness of his skin reflects the armor may be a recent acquisition. However, if the man feels any discomfort, his doesn't show it.

To talk to the barbarian shows a distinct accent, at least the type of accent commonly associated with men and women of his stature and appearance. It's a broken Common, heavily influenced by the islander accents of Mediogalti, to those who are familiar with that area's dialects.

His accent may suggest a lack of intelligence, but the eyes, whenever you do manage to catch them with yours, do not lend evidence to that theory. All of these visual clues suggest an interesting history, perhaps a slave or runaway, but the Barbarian hasn't spoken of it, and shows no evidence that he plans to.

Grand Lodge

Introducing Letha Celestborn, a dour Aasimar Cleric (Crusader) of Pharasma.

Letha knows that she stands out, and not always in a positive way, due to her great strength and the fact that she has a scar across her face.
One of her goals is to get a Merciful weapon, so that she has more chance to end a comflict without loss of life. Provided, of course, that the enemy isnt irredeemably evil...

Well, since the game I was going to use him for fell through, I present to you Averin Cadash. The only modifications necessary at this point are removing his monster hunter trait, and giving him back his breastplate (the game I applied for with him was average gold.

I'll make the changes now, so if you don't see them, that's why.

I'll also need to tweak the story a bit, since he doesn't need to be in Sandpoint anymore, of course, being a caravan guard might help with that.

DM:
Should I tweak the background some? Does it already fit into your campaign?

Don't have a tom of time right now, so I haven't read thenew submissions yet. But as far as Bandon:

Spoiler:
Your background looks good as is. My only worry is the orders to report to Magnimar, but if you don't feel compelled to follow them immediately, then that's fine.

DM:
I can change that for sure. It was a just a tie in for another AP. I wasn't sure where in Verisia your game was taking place so I left it as an exuse to be in the general vicinity.
Also I needed to pick a new trait. Would you approve of Militia Veteran with Bandons background story? I figure rather than a militia his time as a Marine on a pirate should would count.

Liberty's Edge

Here's a fun character I've been trying to get into a game. Drow Paladin, very interesting character (his race/class combo is explained in his background). He has a high CHA so will be a good party face (if he isn't yelled at for being a drow) and can be able to heal a lot. Front line bruiser (damage dealer/tank) and has a lot of survivability because of his healing. Generally wants to end racial violence (again explained in background)

Finished the character, I think. Let me know if I missed anything.

John:
Looking good.

Durren:
Looks good. See below.

Bandon:
Sounds good to me.

Averin:
Looking good so far. I know you said you have changes to make, just let me know when they're done.

Nimt:
Looks good. Just to let you know, I count you at a 14 point-buy (you don't have to spend all 20, but you do have more to spend if you wish). Also, I would like some sort of background, even if it's just a couple sentences about where Nimt came from. Lastly, see below.

Dagbur:
Looks good. I do just want to let you know that I count you at an 18 point buy(you don't have to spend all 20, but you do have more to spend if you wish).

Edward:
I included the Angel-blooded's stats, but I cannot find the trait you are talking about. What is it called? Where did you find it?

I have seen a common thing missing from several people, so: Don't forget the free skill point in a craft/profession/performance skill.

DM:

it is found in Blood of Angels. not sure what page though
I can remove it if you prefer.

Edward:
Yeah, let's get rid of it.

was just perusing the thread and if you want, here is a link to Edward's Variant Abilities and Physical Features. It down the page about half way. Its a big d% chart as well as next to it are some funny physical charts that don't affect game play, but make for a cool image. The variants can make for some pretty powerful, fun, or unique characters.

I will just remove it

DM has judged and so it shall be (unless otherwise stated).

Liberty's Edge

I have updated my skills to include my proffesion of healer (or doctor).

As it turns out, I didn't need to do as much as I thought. I was under the impression that I had a bit about him getting to Sandpoint, but I didn't. I think he's ready now.

Alright, let's do a quick update.

Submissions:
Patrick O'Malley (Aasimar (Angelkin) fighter (brawler))
Marcus Adarian (Human fighter)
Bandon (Human gunslinger)
John Johanna (Aasimar inquisitor)
Dagbur (Human barbarian)
Nimt (Aasimar cleric)
Averin Cadash (Human fighter)
Durren (Drow paladin)

If I missed anyone or got something please let me know.

As far as the Aasimar variations, I was looking at alternate racial traits. Because some variations are unbalanced, I'm going to say a flat no on them.

sound cool on that.
just reduce Patricks strength by 2
(should I re-post?)

No. If that's the only change (and any dependent checks), I've got it.

Sczarni

@DM, thanks for catching that. Adjusted.

Here's Durgan Helsenhammer, a dwarf fighter who will switch to Stalwart Defender as soon as possible (which is 7th lvl if memory serves). When I get home, I'll probably upgrade his armor as he was built with average starting gold rather than max, drop the campaign trait, and this will give me time to think about what background skill I think would be most appropriate for him.

Gronk tells you, the end times are comming.
Gronk shows you, signs of the obliviation.
Gronk make you, believe all things die.

So says Groteus. So shall it be.

The world is ending. Groteus does not need you bad people making things worse. Shame and lamentations. The time of repentance is at hand.

{ If selected IU can quickly modify the stats for 20 pt buy, max gold, and the extra skill point. }

I've upped his armor, chosen his background skill (Craft: Sculpture; his familial obligation was to to sculpt small statues to be dedicated to Trudd). Also, it may not be immediately obvious from just looking at the profile, but I chose a racial variant where I lose the Hardy ability and gain spell resistance instead.

Dark Archive

See her profile. I posted as Nimt before.

Letha's appearance is the same as her avatar, except that she has a scar across the bridge of her nose.

Updated submissions:

Patrick O'Malley (Aasimar (Angelkin) fighter (brawler))
Marcus Adarian (Human fighter)
Bandon (Human gunslinger)
John Johanna (Aasimar inquisitor)
Dagbur (Human barbarian)
Letha Celstborn(Aasimar cleric)
Averin Cadash (Human fighter)
Durren (Drow paladin)
Durgan Helsenhammer (Dwarf fighter)
Gronk de'Morcaine (Half-orc cleric)

Durgan:
Alternate racial traits are fine. What I was talking about above was something else for Aasimar. Thanks for checkin' it with me though.

So, it does look like things are slowing down. I had originally set the deadline for Tuesday, but if I don't get any more submissions or people saying they're interested by Monday night, I'm just gonna close it. We've got a lot of good choices already, so it's not something I'm worried about.

Liberty's Edge

sounds good DM, you got a lot of good choices. good luck everyone!

I am going to post Damaran here but he is currently set up for an AP and is very easily modified to something else. Thanks.

Sczarni

Excited to see the results. Good luck all!

Background has been modified and can be seen in his profile. Thanks!

Alright. Recruitment is closed. I should have the results up tomorrow. Good luck everyone.

Adventurer's gather round, I have an announcement. I have made my decision. Before I tell you, first I would like to say that there were a lot of great characters. I wish I could take more of you into this campaign. That being said, with all the great choices, I did decide to take more of you. I will be accepting both:

Durren Drow Paladin
Averin Cadash Human Fighter

Thank you everyone for your submissions. For those who didn't make it, good luck in your future campaigns. For Durren and Averin, report to the Discussion thread, and we'll figure out how to introduce you into the game.

Grats guys, have fun with the game!

Sczarni

Congrats! kill them bad guys!
