Oster is pretty far away from their newest enemy. He's pretty sure that she's not undead, which means that there's a good chance that he can use his mental attack on her, but even as fast as he can go he still can't get close enough just yet to be able to reach her mind. He's not really good from this sort of range, so he starts to run in order to close the distance.

Run Action for x4 movement

Oster:
Half-fiends are powerful native outsiders, like tieflings but much moreso. They are resistant to fire, electricity, acid and cold (resistance 10 for each), always have bite and claw attacks, and a fly speed that's at minimum twice their usual ground speed. They keep many of the same abilities of their regular race, but usually gain some weak physical resistance, just against magical weapons, and some spell-like abilities.

"My apologies, friends; it does not seem like luck is with me this time. Nevertheless, I will guide you on defeating our new foe to the best of my ability." Mira begins explaining the tactics involved with fighting a half-fiend dhampir. She has a strange feeling that the rune is important, but it's identity just cannot leave the tip of her tongue.

My first failed knowledge check, alas. At least it wasn't the important one; starting up performance.

Mira can read Oster's spoiler above.

Okian and Ko still have actions to take.

Okian looks up as he hears the sounds of combat raging nearby. He moves forward, slowly at first, striding forward as he calls upon his divine power to focus his growing fury.

"BEGONE FELL CREATURE! I shall end you in the name of the Inheritor, Iomedae!"

30ft move towards the creature, then casting wrath on self, designating the Dhampir.

Ko moves up to the dhampir and slashes once with his temple sword.

Temple sword attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30, damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12; possible crit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18, crit damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Doesn't confirm though.

The dhampir ripostes with her rapier, claw, and fangs. Only the rapier manages to penetrate the monk's defenses, though, leaving a vicious wound.

Rapier attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26, damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Claw attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13, damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bite attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17, damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

She then retreats a step, as though daring him to follow her.

You guys again.

Move action | 15 feet SW
Standard action | Cast Enlarge Person
The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size.
A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target's speed.

Ko tries to pull the dhampir towards him with a gravity blast, but can't quite concentrate with the pain in his side.

Blast: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Round 2

Oster takes a moment to study the half-fiend for weak points. Filing that information away, for a bit, he reaches out with his mind to attempt to overwhelm the opponent's nervous system. Following the result of this psychic attack, he steps a bit closer to make sure she's within striking distance for his next move.

Mira steps towards the half-fiend and makes a few distracting feints with her shortsword in order to expose an opening for her allies to exploit.

Aid Another: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Maintaining performance; an ally (probably Okian) can take a +3 to his next attack roll.

Was letting things go over the Con/holiday weekend but botting now for Okian. Note that he's not Large yet, because enlarge person has a 1 round casting time.

Okian finishes his approach to the dhampir and raises his greatsword, ready to unleash Iomedae's wrath on her. The swing is powerful, but he puts just too much of his weight behind the swing, and the half-fiend warrior is able to use that to redirect the blade to the floor next to her.

Greatsword attack, with wrath, Aid, Power Attack, and performance: 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 3 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 1 + 3 - 2 + 2 = 24, damage: 2d6 + 6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 + 6 + 1 = 21

"Very good," the dhampir hisses, taking one more step back, then suddenly channels unholy energy through the air around her, sending waves of Abyssal power out into you all.

5 ft step, then casting unholy blight centered on herself, which I believe catches all of you. If you are good, you take 3d8 ⇒ (6, 7, 1) = 14 damage and must make a Will save, DC 17, to avoid being sickened for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds. Making the save also halves the damage. If you are neutral, you take half damage and aren't sickened, and can make a save at the same DC to halve the damage again.

You guys are up. Okian is big as soon as Otto's turn comes around.

Round 3

Reeling from the waves of negative energy radiating from the half-fiend, Oster decides that he can't take much more punishment up close. Instead he retreats to the table and tries once more to overpower the Dhamphir's mind, not holding anything back.

Just something to note, enlarge person doesn't help Ko all that much. I rely pretty heavily on DEX for AC, and the larger size also reduces my attacks.

Ko's huge size might not suit his regular style, but he adapts well enough to find a gap in the half-fiend's defenses and his blade slashes through her throat, sending her crashing to the floor.

Above you, the scoreboard notes your victory, racking up another 8 points for Pentakill.

Ko, you are entitled to up to 2 performance combat checks - one of them you might as well take, since you can't lose anything even if you fail it.

The blast of energy hurts Okian, but with his faith in his goddess, he stands strong. He looks about the room and kneels, continuing his prayers from before.

With the half-fiend dispatched, Oster allows himself to relax a little again. He's feeling pretty drained in more ways than one, and could really use a break. Hopefully the room where they can rest a bit and use healing magic without affecting their score is close by. Once everyone is ready to press on, he'll continue the pattern of following the left-hand wall, which quickly leads to the door that had once been directly across from the exit from the three-lock-box room. Treading gingerly, just in case, he takes a moment to examine the door for either traps or clues about what fresh hell might exist beyond it.

Perception + Inspiration: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 2 - 1 + (3) = 34 +3 vs traps

There is no sign of a trap or a lock on this door.

Inside, you discover what is unmistakably a Break Room. A variety of foods and drinks are laid out on one long table, several comfortable-looking chairs and cushions dominate the middle of the space, and there is a small medical-style reclining chair in the far corner, surrounded by medical screens and various diagnostic machinery. A human woman, bright-eyed and smiling, stands next to the chair. "Pentakill!" she greets you warmly. "Welcome to the break room! If you're injured, I would be happy to help!"

Wait, does Otto have any idea how long the Crawl is?

If so:
Otto's brow furrows in thought as he turns to his companions. "We've got two out of five done, yes? I feel like I could go another round before I take a break"

If not:
A look of relief washes over Otto's face, only to be quickly replaced by one of contemplation. "We only get one stop here, yes? How long do we want to risk going without healing? I think I could probably take at least one more room. I don't know." The sorcerer shrugs, frowning slightly.

"I'll admit it, I'm in really rough shape, you guys," says Oster, feeling extremely relieved that this next room in the break room and not some other sort of challenge. "I'm sure that some of you could probably keep going, but the wights, the poison gas, and the general beatings have really taken their toll on me pretty hard."

He turns to the bright-eyed woman, a ray of sunshine if ever there was one. "What sort of things can you do to help?" he asks her, and then an unpleasant thought occurs to him. "And does it have a price?" he asks as a follow-up. If so, then they can at least use the time to heal themselves with wands and scrolls, but he's pretty sure that the soul-draining from the wights isn't something that they have the equipment to take care of.

I'm at 9 HP, with dex damage and a negative level, so I'd really like to take the opportunity for recovery now rather than later, if you guys are okay with that.

"I concur with Oster; the service is available so we should use it. Oster's condition is critical and the rest of us are not exactly in tip top shape."

"I agree as well, it seems as though our colleague is quite seriously injured and it would be best if we saw to his treatment."

Okian said as he entered the room a few moments later. The place was really quite nice, somewhere it would be nice to take a break after all. Okian himself looked slightly battered, but it was clear that he could keep going strong.

"I would also like to volunteer my services in healing, if anyone would like."

Stepping over towards the food and drink, he looked at the others. Waiting for their approval before he could help himself to some of the food and water.

The length of this specific Crawl isn't known, but from past Crawls Otto would know that 5-ish rooms is fairly typical, except in the cases where the Crawl is meant to be something of a marathon, and in such situations there are usually multiple Break Rooms as well.

"No charge," the medic replies, studying Oster's wounds as he seats himself. "Nasty. Those wights... well, at least none of you had to put a friend down to move out of the room like the poor bastards of Maro City. Anyway, let's see what I can do for you." She produces a trauma kit, one of the advanced versions, and sets to work.

"Okay," she nods. "Best I can do, I think. Who's next?"

Oster stretches out a bit, testing how well his range of motion has returned. "That's great work, doc," he says, appreciatively. "Thanks a bunch."

He moves away to fill up on some snacks while the others let the medic do the work. After the news about what happened to the Maro City group he wouldn't think that he'd have much of an appetite left, but the adrenaline of staying in fight-or-flight mode for so long takes its toll on the body, and staying hydrated is an absolute must.

That brings me back to normal enough. Still have the negative level, but I don't think there's anything we can do about that until we get out of here.

While the others were getting healed, Okian was helping himself to food, wolfing it down like mad. After all, that fighting burned a lot of calories! Additionally, he began to guzzle down water, clearly hot from the heavy armor and the cassock over top. When he was finished eating and drinking, he looked up and about to everyone else. Taking note that the others had finished their turns with the Medic, he made his way over.

"I suppose it is my turn, then."

You can relax in the Break Room for up to an hour and you have almost all of that still remaining. How long do you wait to move on?

Oster understands the need to take some time to decompress before moving on to the next challenges, and he spends some time just breathing deeply as the others take their turns getting fixed up by the medic. Before ten minutes are up, though, he starts getting fidgety, bouncing his heel up and down as he sits and looking around at the others to see how they're doing with all this downtime.

I'm in favor of spending as little extra time as possible in here, probably something like ten minutes max before actually saying something about it out loud. Does anybody have a strong opinion otherwise?

The longer the team stays in the break room, the more sparks arc off the sorcerer's body. He's doing a bad job of hiding his excitement for the rest of the challenges ahead.

Agreed.

Once a brief rest is the done, Pentakill is ready to move onward. The only remaining path leads to a single door at the end of the hall to the south, where you noticed a bird painted earlier. Closer examination reveals it to be a large, flightless-type bird, with a toucan-like beak and thick legs ending in oversized claws, but it's clearly not meant to represent any actual living creature: the cartoon-y art style makes that much evident. The bird wears a large shirt, like a sports jersey, in maroon, with a large number 12 (and a much smaller POINTS beneath it) on the jersey's front.

"Birds, huh?" Oster muses out loud. "I think we'll be fine as long as they aren't soul-sucking birds."

While he muses, he thoroughly checks the door before attempting to open it. Once bitten, twice shy.

Okian returns from the medic, looking freshly healed. He grins at everyone and makes his way over to the refreshments and continues to chow down for a bit longer, especially making sure to continue rehydrating!

Oster finds no sign of a trap on the door, but it is locked. As he reaches for his tools to begin the unlocking process, the image on the door changes into a serious-looking elven gentleman in a safari suit and pith helmet. He speaks in a friendly announcer’s voice.
